Fate/In Glory Of (Worm)

So is this swirl of blackness Shadow Stalker? Herc might perceive an arrow bolt as a needle after all. But then, does her power get through God Hand? Is this Flechette instead? I am confused. Still, my vote is

[X] ...had the giant chase after them. She wasn't going to let them get away after this much effort.

Got to finish what you started, right? Also worried about a potential ward being killed as well. Don't want that on Taylors's conscience or record.

Current vote is thus;

Four for going home.

Three for giant to keep doing what he's doing.

Three for telling him to chase after the fleeing merchants.

[X] ...let the giant keep doing what it was doing.

Taylor didn't know what had caught the giant's attention but she felt that it was important to let it focus on it.

Even if it burned to let the Merchants escape.

The shadow focused on the thing above the girl.

The girl had given it orders, but anything she said would be superseded by the need to keep her safe.

Hostility radiated off the thing followed by thrill.

Moreover, the shadow recognized the thing. It had been a while since the person that smelled similar had been near the girl.

It was more of a threat to the girl now than the vehicle it had fought.

The bastardized bow in its hand fired.

The shadow sidestepped it – it was not something it could completely ignore.

It leapt.

It's prey melted through the roof of the building.

The shadow went through the structure's roof in pursuit.

A flash of white and gold filled entered it's peripheral; an excited teenager dressed in white floated well out of it's reach.

The floating girl said something.

It may have been profound, some deep revelation about life and happiness. A way to cool it's rage and assuage it's heart.

The shadow wasn't listening to her as it tracked it's prey.

The thing had left the structure, though which direction it had gone was a bit beyond it.

The structure groaned.

A rock bounced off the back of it's head.

It wasn't an attack and as such it ignored it. Or if it was, it was such a poor one.

Two more brightly coloured costumed people appeared, one red the other blue. The one in white started to argue with them.

This was no longer the shadow's concern, however.

The muscle untensed, and abruptly, Taylor felt like she could breathe better again.

Ever since the giant had taken a hit, the nebulous idea she had of his remaining time to manifest had shrunk, rapidly. She could have pushed it further but it was definitely starting to feel bad and the immediate threat was now gone, so why do it?

Plus, heroes from the Protectorate had arrived. They were professionals! They probably had a better idea of what was going on.

Probably.

Maybe.

...Taylor was going to be optimistic.

By comparison, Taylor was an amateur dipping her toes into the scene. She knew that she didn't know enough to keep up with people who had been doing it for years but she was going to try anyways. Given that the merchants had fled and nobody… got… hurt…

Green eyes widened.

She looked at the destruction that was wrought from the artillery fight.

Parts of the street were missing. Several buildings were in ruins, though oddly enough not the gas station this whole thing had started over. It was very likely someone had actually gotten hurt.

Or dead.

The trip home was filled with apprehension and guilt.

Sleep had come poorly to Taylor, leading to her being in less than a good headspace as she entered school.

Contemplating if she had led to a death or several tended to do that. As much as she hoped the average person ran away from cape fights, the world was filled with all sorts of idiots.

It certainly wasn't aided by the fact that she had woken up with all sorts of new places to feel aches and pains from just being near the fight.

Or the fact she definitely couldn't hear as well in one ear now. Probably.

All of these reasons are what she blamed on the fact that it took her the better part of ten minutes upon entering the building to notice that a new colour had entered the general colour scheme of it's interior.

Pink.

She stared unceasingly at the decorations before it clicked.

It was nearly the middle of February. No, that was wrong. Today was the midpoint of the month. The fourteenth.

Valentine's Day.

"Friend." A voice that distinctly belonged to Nikki stated from behind Taylor, causing her to jump slightly. "I am not all that familiar with the intricacies of the holiday. But I know it is for giving confections to those that you deem 'special'. Thus I have something for you."

Turning around, Taylor saw the taller girl holding a large box of chocolates shaped like a heart.

Nikki held the box forwards, a pink bow adorning the red cover. "This is for you."

Author's note: Finally got done with that patrol. That only took the better part of a month… apologies about that.

Also, yes, its been about a month and a half since the locker. Yay?

Please note that there are consequences for any of these winning. Some more serious than others. Some more funny than others, too.

[X] Faint

[X] Prepare something for the Giant as well! Bonding is important now that you know it's sentient.

Idk if it's different in Worm because of Parahuman stuff, but irl in Russia Valentine's day is a popular, but unofficial, romantic holiday. So like, since it's an au ofc there'sa possibility of a cultural misunderstanding. But. Well, just throwing that out there.

[X] Buhwha?

Taylor stared at Nikki.

Something wasn't making sense to her. People didn't give chocolate to her. Nice people especially didn't give chocolate to her.

She looked up at Nikki and gave her most eloquent response.

"Buhwha?"

Nikki stayed in place, watching Taylor as she held the large heart shaped box of chocolate. Then, minutely, she shifted. "Do… you not enjoy chocolates?" she questioned.

No, of course she enjoyed chocolates. That wasn't the problem. It was the fact someone was giving them to her. On Valentines day. That meant things! Many things! Things that couldn't be true. Ergo Taylor was going to reply in a way that accurately represented how much sense this made.

"Buuhuh?"

Nikki shifted once more. "Is… is this a language I don't know?" She asked, holding the box up. "Do you want it?"

"Gehk?"

"I... understand." Nikki replied, sounding very much like she didn't as she lowered the heart shaped box of chocolates. "I simply assumed that we had a special friendship considering how much we met up and hung out."

Taylor's eyes widened comically as she made a series of gestures that probably meant something, but was clearly just panic. "Cheb! Kwyjibo! Tog!" Words were… just not working. They sounded cut off parts of a word. The more she panicked, the worse she did. This was a nightmare of a positive feedback loop.

Nikki shifted, flinched really, from the hand waving. "Right. I will... I will go then." She took a step back before turning and quickly walking away from Taylor. Her heart dropped as Nikki rushed away. The crowd that had stopped to watch an open display of affection letting the russian girl pass through them.

A girl had just confessed(?) to her and she had just rejected her. Somewhat brutally too.

There were stares.

Everyone was staring.

Taylor could feel their gazes on her.

It was like Winslow.

Except she had caused it.

This… she thought she had escaped this.

Worst of all, she had clearly made Nikki feel bad. Honestly, that was the worst part. Nikki had been nothing but a good friend to her the entire time. A sweet girl. She had even bought Taylor a phone! A fancy smartphone, to boot.

For a singular moment, she really, really wanted to call on the giant. To just witness it destroy the school and everything around it. Hoping that it would make her feel better.

Just for a moment.

The crowd parted as she walked away, slouched over.

Taylor numbly went to class.

Taylor…

[] ...hid from Nikki.
[] ...went to an empty room and ranted to the giant.
[] ...decided to check out the library to see if she could find a book to help her bury the embarrassment.
[] ...talked to Joanna. She seems at least socially aware? Maybe she could help.
[] ...tried to find Nikki and explain. Maybe she wouldn't be mad?

Author's note: I hope everyone is happy with buhwha? winning. Hypothetically dating Nikki is now significantly harder if that ever happens in the future. Am I being a bit petty? Probably. But writing this made me feel like I was kicking a puppy, so everyone gets to feel like that now :D

Nikki was trying her best.

Slowly getting back into the swing of frequent updates. Good stuff.
