[Exalted, ?] Most High

[X] The Seat of Empire
[X] He could find a way.
[X] Grin and bear it.

Instead of wasting our prophecies on destroying the realm we could be using them to buff our satrapy thus negating the problems these new orders cause for us. That'll give us time to build up before we're forced into a civil war.

[X] He could try
Our goal of protecting creation is actually derived from our goal of protecting all the people of creation.
At first I thought its asking about retaining popularity, but rereading it seems to clearly say protecting the people
That being said, taking rihaku's warning about the results might not being something they liked, and the "will not sacrifice it all for it" in he could try also concerns me (or rather, the lack of of that line elsewhere).
So, he could try.

[X] Subversion
through conflict, growth. She might escalate, but we will learn and grow from this.

@Rihaku: I cannot stress this enough: The vote does not in any way make clear that this is what we are choosing!
I actually changed my vote after seeing you make this post.
It does not in any way indicating that we would try to save those specific people over other people, over quality of life, etc.
So polis is officially out of the running then?
In that case I am switching back to
[x] seat of empire
It is a real shame because if we really wanted to subvert the realm then having a huge army of DBs answering us directly and personally would have been the ideal way to do so

Actually, empire explicitly states we will be killing or recruiting said celestial exalts. We will have about a dozen of them serving us.
Furthermore, rihaku explicitly warned us that the bull will come to conquer us and we will lack the power to repel him and be forced to swear fealty to him or come up with some creative solution
Please all of your votes in a one post, which has to be the latest you vote/voted in. Otherwise the vote tally -program will not count more than "seat of empire" from you. The following format works (and vote be counted in my case as its inside a quote box):
[X] The Seat of Empire
[X] He could try
[X] Subversion

[X] Naval Assistance - Ask Zao to exert some influence on your behalf. Ensure that this ship's trip back is severely delayed due to naval operations of utmost secrecy along its route, and that the next one to arrive will takes weeks, if not months, of utterly necessary detours. Of course, this does not solve the problem at the root and may make things difficult for Zao, but it will direct heat against him, instead of you.

[X] Subversion - If Anys wants to play the game, she'll find her enemy a more than capable foe. Cut back on administrative duties and take out loans: It's time to show her just how obstructive a Solar strategist can be. Choke the life out of her bureaucracy, mire its every action in corruption, vested interests, and red tape. The Magistracies, the only officially sanctioned checks on House power, are already weakened to the point of uselessness. Conflict and division shall rain upon the Realm, and its Immaculate Philosophy will face a hundred thousand tiny heresies. It'll be a cold day in Malfeas before she gets another cutter out to you, much less one with orders like these.

[X] He could find a way - He could stop mooning about like his mortal self never would have, shut up, and find a way. Little is beyond his ingenuity and skill, and if he is to reign, he will not content himself with merely reigning 'well' compared to others. He is Odyssial, and they are his - adopted - peoples. Nothing more needs to be said

[X] Grin and Bear It - If this is the extent to which Anys is willing to interfere with you, then so be it. You will not escalate things with her, not at this time, not when you are still weak. She is giving you time, and even these ludicrous orders can be worked around. If you are made to fail publicly, so what? That is a matter of months from now, before it can even be confirmed, much less disseminated around the Realm. In the meantime, you'll continue to build your power base unmolested, save for the nuisance of higher taxes. The coffers of Luseng run low indeed, but you've a few ideas to fix that. Markets are systems like any other, and they come easily to you now. You might even call your talents prophetic...

[X] The Polis of Legend - The borders of the satrapy are well-defined and well-defensible. Its natural resources are tremendous, and underexploited. It contains the potential to become a thriving nation, an ideal realm on the face of this Creation, an invincible bulwark against all the forces that would seek to rend this world asunder. Elsewhere the Exalted may fail to rise to their Mandates; elsewhere the strength of men may falter; elsewhere, but not here. A self-contained, highly militarized nation-state with enough jade to produce a thousand years' worth of Artifacts, you will prepare Luseng to hold the line against Realm aggression or the return of the Yozis themselves. Should the enemies of your present life, or your past, come calling - you will be ready.

It looks like Subversion vs. Grin and Bear it aren't that far apart, actually, just 14 to 12. Could Find a Way vs. He Would Try are a bit further apart, at 17 to 9. If Base Sentimentality readers, who mostly want to avoid Could Find a Way, switched over to He Would Try, it would be competitive. That's before taking arguments into account, of course.

The Shining Metropolis vs. Empire votes are a mess, so I'm just going to go off arguments for that from now on. The vote was close enough that it'd have been decided on arguments anyway.

With your newfound concern for your citizens, however, Sorcery does start to look much more attractive - if you take some time to train Occult and the first Sorcery Charm, then flash-buy the next Sorcery Charm, you would be at Charm cap and able to qualify for E5. You'd also still have some flexibility in Solar XP to flash-buy spells. Then you could get started on a Working, creating an entity to either help defend or administrate Luseng - either one would free up tremendous amounts of time for you. Once you hit E5 and Solar Circle Sorcery, you can move into temporal distortion effects (though they do have drawbacks, the value of temporal distortion is almost always worth it).

For example, you could use an Ambition 3 Finesse 5 Celestial Circle Working to create a loyal, few-drawbacks equivalent of a 2CD to help govern Luseng. It would have nearly Solar-level dicepools and a panoply of Charms designed specifically to assist you, and be designed to be nearly unfailingly loyal to you. That would give you much more time to train, take personal missions, etc. And all this for a mere ~2-3 weeks of effort and 40,000 Solar XP! The only drawback is that it would only cost 30,000 with Solar Circle Sorcery, but 10k XP is a small price to pay for getting access to a 2CD-level helper at this level...

Not to mention the benefits of whichever Sorcerous spells you end up picking. Infallible Messenger, Mists of Eventide, Invulnerable Skin of Bronze... all useful and potent spells. Travel Without Distance, Ivory Orchid Pavilion, Demon of the Second Circle - the possibilities are immense.

HOLY SHIT

WHY HAVEN'T WE DONE THIS BEFORE!?

Ohmigod.

Going to check out the options and make my vote.

[X] He could try
[X] Grin and Bear It

This. Find a Way is like going Urghaaaargh!!1 full on. We've got too much shit to do.

Eh, I don't actually follow the thread. Can't be bothered to read... 20 pages of posts between each update, yeah? So I just pop in here and there and make a vote when I have the time. The whole thread is honestly too fast moving for me. Only downside is that I miss out on a few of the write-ins which are usually pretty awesome.

Nothing wrong with just reading the updates and voting. Everyone has their own pace.

Well, if the city-planning vote is already over:

[X] He could try
[X] Grin and Bear It

With Sorcery combined with prophecies, Grin and Bear It becomes suddenly much more feasible. They can try to bleed us dry, but with our economy buffed enough even the taxes they can levy without straightout admitting they are trying to destroy us will seem petty before glorious Solar administration!

[X] Metropolis
[X] He could try.
[X] Grin and bear it.

These 3 options are relatively synergistic. Whether a way or try, both are concerned about the welfare of mortals. Unlike Empire, Metropolis explicitly has mortal welfare as one of the benefits of the option while Empire has underdevelopment as one of its demerits.

Furthermore, while Metropolis has less territory than Empire, it also means that we would need to protect lesser area. This would allow us to rapidly react to threats all throughout our territory as we would need less time to go from one end of the Satrapy to the other. The smaller size also means that it would be easier for us in terms of how many workings we need to carry out.

I personally don't mind either try or way, but I prefer Try more.

As for Grin, it allows us to actually use Prophet to help Luseng instead of using it to mess with Anys.

Well, you don't have to go all-in either way, but your primary focus will benefit the most from any synergy bonuses.

Hmm. If we stall long enough, can our allies and friends move to help us? With Luseng mostly secure in the case of Metropolis, Nilul, Moon and Hero could all be quite useful to have. Especially Nilul. And maybe we could also try making moves to get Ayala and Fei Ling to ally with us instead of continuing our current arrangement, which we haven't even used yet. Ayala might have had enough time to think about the ones she serves after the time-skip, and now we would have something to offer to her also. With the resources of Luseng and possibly us making it the premier spot for Sorcerers, we might catch her interest.

And the best thing is, it is feasible we might do this without tipping Anys off about their Infernal nature. She is a known Sorcerer, so seeking power and patronage under us might not be that strange. Hell, maybe we could also use her as a contact to grab also House Mnemon to our side in addition of Nellens!

Find a way is just simply so horrible I'll go for the compromise option that I'm not particularly fond of.

[X] Naval Assistance

This also has no chance of winning, but I'm less vehemently against subversion than find a way, so I'm not willing to switch out yet. It still baffles me that so many people are so unwilling to consider utilizing Zao for anything.
