I am pretty sure gaining limit right now will end badly, we don't need Thaumaturgic Organization action that much do we?

We just kicked the Fae's teeth in after they over-extended into Ulyssian's waiting sword point. There is little point in expanding our area of control if we can't effectively hold it as we will just be over-extending our diminished forces. Right now Ulyssian can intercept any attack on our holding due to their diminished nature but if we expand our territory then our diminished Legion will have to defend some portions themselves which will drain it even further. Remeber, the Legion is for holding ground and right now they don't have the strength to really do that with their current strength and the kind of enemies we have at our door.

We've gained some breathing room, now lets make use of it to consolidate our power and defenses so that we're primed to kill off another chunk of enemies then grab territory we can actually hold.

Actually the Legions maintain a steady rate of use(lessness) regardless. While we drop in effectiveness the longer the enemy has to counter us. Considering the balance of power between us and the rest of our military the tradeoff is not particularly great.

You're Acting General, for now. Mechanically speaking, there's almost no difference whether you go now or go later; the only thing that changes is the number of troops you have to hold the ground with. But you don't need many troops to hold ground if your enemies are all dead. You're 80% of Luseng's combat power anyway, so not choosing Tip of the Spear is essentially just choosing to defer military objectives overall.

I agree with Cav's approach to quickly regain some territory either to knock out the Fae or to liberate the Great Library which is in the hands of the lunar horde. The library will have the info we need to really lay down some prophecies on the satrapy.

On flash buying, at this point we can only get 2 charms and 3 evocations. For the fae getting PRT would be useful as perhaps OAB. If we go all out on reclaiming stuff for now, getting the League of Iron Prep war charm would counter the effects of hunger and forced marches in difficult terrain, this would take 2 charms.

On evocations getting Eastern Wind Invigoration and Swifter than Silence would be useful to long marches over difficult terrain. We also could maybe consider flashbuy bureaucracy up to 4 to help us rule better.

The Lunar is one E5.

The Abyssals are a full Circle of E4s and led by the ghost of a First Age Solar. Why would you assume Ragmar is the greatest threat here?

Not to mention the Lunar is the only one that might hypothetically ally with a Solar, considering he's allying with the Great Bull as we speak.

At this juncture, the Abyssals are highly unlikely to be clustered together. That'll probably change after they realize how powerful Uly is, but currently it seems they are all split up doing their own things. It'll be best for us to try and take out one before they start combining.

As for the Lunar, I seriously doubt he is going to ally with us, seeing as both he and the Bull are anti Realm.

E4 and being combat optimized on par with Ulyssian while Also being a ridiculously charismatic character to the point of casually flipping large amounts of people. Possibly stronger (Given how much of Ulyssian's combat strength comes from how OP Ambition is, while hers is just being a killblender with a moderately good artifact. She was a match for his battle strength when he killed Polegamos, without needing Ambition as a crutch--this has obvious implications for how ridiciulously strong she is)

Unless Lily of the Valley is a freak of nature compared to the other deathknights of the Gardener, we have to assume each of them is a peer to Ulyssian in terms of ability in their areas of focus. In which case, letting them consolidate is going to be terrifying, because we'd be taking on Five to eight Ulyssians, plus the Gardener, who probably has the abilities of a Third Circle Demon as a minimum.

Seriously, it'd be nice to take on other Celestials who Didn't outclass us, despite the fact we started with a depressingly large amount of advantages and have had four months to train in relative safety. Ambition is carrying us as a Celestial, and it's depressing because it's so good of a tool that our own abilities are pretty secondary to it. And doubly so in that dumping so much attention into it wasn't a bad choice, because it's all that gives us even a ghost of a chance.

I'm pretty sure Lily has at least one Artifact 5, likely 2. Its not the Deathlords are lacking in resources to thrown at their Abyssals. Also, we had to spend quite a few charms on non combat stuff because we have to try and cover as many fields by ourselves instead of being able to delegate it to others.

True, but evidently so has Lily of the Valley, and that hasn't stopped her from being "Ulyssian who killed Polegamos in one attack" level combat potential, while also being a social monster capable of flipping the population of small towns just by doing her regular thing.

In other words, either a Day One Celestial Exalt who's managed to hit Essence 4+ without actually doing anything threatening or getting killed (Which suggests that she's been very carefully fed opponents that she was strong enough to reliably beat, or that she's used to working with her entire Circle and has managed to so far avoid opposition capable of overcoming it). Or a Ulyssian-tier freak of nature and willpower who bootstrapped themselves to near peak Celestial Combat Effectiveness. And that's just the one we can most accurately quantify (the other one is also at least Essence 4, and a Labyrinth Circle Necromancer. In other words, about as good as Ayala in his area of expertise)

Or alternately, that the Gardener has a way of quickly training and efficiently optimizing their Deathknights. None of these are terribly pleasant prospects. Since it either means "They have exceptional skill at picking targets out that they can beat without serious threat", or "They have a Ulyssian", or "Their boss is a ridiculously top tier trainer".

Of course, there's the fourth option, which is "They just got really, really lucky up until now and they just built up so much experience from running into everyone dropping the spaghetti around them that they've accidentally made their way to High-level Celestial". But I don't like taking luck into account.

That Jade Mountain had best be a top tier resource we can actually exploit to some extent, because I find it hard to believe two to ten Celestial Exalts at the top end of the scale of "Not actually a complete freak of nature who have exceeded the limits of their peers and achieved the ranks of legends among legends" would be fighting over "Merely" unlimited material wealth, and access to a Magical Material that isn't exactly hard to find enough to make what you want with.

One on each side, I can accept as coincidence, Celestials don't exactly exist in abundance. The fact that the Gardener has at least two top-tiers in play, and possibly as many as eight (Though realisticaly, I would call foul if she had more than four, with the rest being less-skilled Abyssals handling other interests or keeping rivals at bay). And the Lunar is at the peak of what "Normal" Celestial Exalts can ever achieve, is kind of a terrifying amount of power to put in one place to one goal, especially a goal that they were certainly about to win at until Ulyssian showed up.

Forget to post this earlier.

The Pearl on the Shore
At last, Pearl gets some much needed screentime... :(

He did not emerge from belowdecks until the ship was nearing Luseng Harbor. Nilul had told him that he had an abrasive personality, especially to the uninitiated, and even Saery had agreed. Any first impressions made with words, rather than deeds, would be less than optimal. He had, therefore, studiously avoided overmuch human contact, except to send off a series of wax-sealed envelopes to Admiral Zao.
Sesus Ulyssian? Abrasive? Perish the thought. I love the bit about "the uninitiated" though. Ulyssian is apparently an acquired taste that is best taken in moderation. Please use Ulyssian wisely.

Those, he hoped, would put the Navy in a position to resist both the depredations of Western Pirates and the influence of Syn. The rest of the time, he'd trained with his blade.
So the "reasonable" option wins. I don't mind, even though I voted for the other. The arguments for it were probably a bit more solid, it doesn't require nearly as much maintenance, and it should have more potent immediate effects.

Power could be drawn from an Artifact as the bond between wielder and weapon deepened; long experience and shared tribulation yielded the precious insights by which such weapons could be fully harnessed. Even the most veteran campaigner could wield a flame-daiklave that he was novice to, and do nothing more than hack or slash. Conversely, a young Dynast with that same weapon, bonded since childhood, might well summon army-devouring tides of lava from its unassuming edge.
Interestingly, this gives yet another reason for young Dynasts to be substantially more powerful than outcastes of their age. Education, sponsorship and resources alone weren't enough, now they have more time to learn evocations for their powerful heirloom weapons.

The battle-meditation of the Lord Strategos had yielded the means by which the Realm Navy could stabilize against an unceasing tide of foes, within and without. That same methodology, he now applied to the blade Ambition. He did not have time to bind the weapon by wielding it in an endless series of travails. Luseng needed him in two days.
Ulyssian has a world satrapy to save. He doesn't have time for decadent pleasures like round the clock intensive training. Then there is the issue of the enormous amount of XP required to replicate the effects of getting 14 evocations for "free". Well, free if you don't count the 13+ charms required to achieve this roll. Still, it's a pretty good trade, considering that we get numerous other benefits and we can do it again at some point. Unfortunately, we probably won't have spent enough XP on Ambition to be able to use Wake the Sleeper on it again, but using it on an Artifact 5 armor will be almost as good. Now we just have to find one. I suggest killing some nearby Exalts and checking their corpses. That usually works.

Dragonlord Talomar was the highest-ranking officer of the Scarlet Dynasty still active in Luseng, and wasn't that a damn shame.
Being the highest-ranking officer by promotion is one thing, but being it by everyone else dying is quite another.

Nellens Talomar. Aspected to Water, one hundred and fifty-seven years of age. He numbered among the mightier of Nellens Exalted, though he wasn't able to challenge prodigies like Raern. Saery had told him that the new Satrap made Raern look like a boy playing at swords.
Talomar sounds like a generally competent but not particularly exceptional, at least for his age, Dragon-Blooded. Certainly he is not very driven.

He hoped the dependable young miss was right, and that she didn't have a vastly over-inflated view of her friend. He knew that this Sesus Ulyssian had slain Polemgaos, but even Polemgaos would have had trouble salvaging this situation.
It's interesting that Saery already has such a reputation for being dependable. What has she done to get it? She is may be the heir, but that alone can't be enough. She must have been fairly active in her family before she came to the academy.

Saery had also warned him that the Sesus was notoriously anti-social, and had pleaded for Talomar to "help him." Help him! As he stepped out of his command post to look down upon the greater city, Talomar shook his head.
I really would love to see this "help", at least after things have calmed down a bit. I suspect the results will be hilarious.

The Legion, or what was left of it. One thousand nine hundred and twenty-three men made up the forces at his command, and less than four hundred thirty in auxiliaries. Seven Terrestrial officers, the rest mortals. Bedraggled and multiply decimated, the Ghost-Water Legion was still a formidable force in any encounter, but not formidable enough to hold a satrapy on its own. Not one this beset.
Only a hundred to one odds. Sounds good to me.

Things had gotten bad enough that he had considered conscripting the Satrapy's administrative officers, those that were Dragon-Blooded, and their two surviving Immaculate Monks. With the new Satrap arriving at the head of a new Wyld Hunt...
Inasmuch as you can call seven "Dragon-Bloods" a Wyld Hunt. Especially when one of them is actually a Solar as well as the true target of the hunt. There is also the other that is a maybe-Sidereal, but we won't worry about that for now. If he is actually a Sidereal, there is also the real question: is he a powerful one? I tent to think that Anys couldn't afford to spare one of her top two assets, but who knows. Anyone less powerful than Sad Ivory will be slaughtered unless they act with exceeding caution and at exactly the right moment. On the other hand, even the weakest Sidereal will have their most beloved charm: Avoidance Kata.

Talomar considered, then re-considered. He'd risen to the rank of dragonlord by tactical pragmatism and Nellens savvy, but he'd survived a century and a half by keeping his head down and understanding those in power. A general was a nice, juicy target for assassination, but a dragonlord in a full Legion? Why bother, when there were nine more just like him?
The tallest blade of grass is the first to be cut, eh? A lack of excessive ambition may be a healthy survival trait for a Dragon-Blood, at least until you have to worry about old age. Not that most do.

Satraps were nice targets too, he thought grimly. The last hadn't fared well. Cathak Reval had been a stout administrator and dutiful warrior, but no fighter whose best descriptor was "dutiful" stood the remotest chance against the Lily of the Valley. Honest to Dragons, he didn't know if Polemgaos would have stood a chance. Two full Dragons they'd lost to her, and three-fourth of the auxilaries. Three of the Exalted - a staff officer and two Immaculate monks! - had defected to the Gardener to worship her.
Lily of the Valley? The Valley of Death, perchance? She's clearly an extremely potent combatant, perhaps also with a bit of social focus. Or maybe those monks just decided that they wanted to live above all else.

He still remembered it every time he closed his eyes. The psychotic bitch with that Dragons-damned peaceful smile on her face, carving through their ranks without a care in the world. One blow she'd landed on Reval and he'd exploded with the force of a punctured balloon, meat and blood and entrails just misting down on top of his bodyguard...
How would someone not on his side describe Ulyssian doing almost exactly the same thing?

Just days before, Ragmar had assassinated the General. That had been last week.
Apparently no one around here likes fair fights.

Realization struck Talomar like a knife made of ice. The Satrap!
That's an interesting metaphor given the previous paragraphs.

He was here already, and Talomar was going to be late. The dragonlord took a moment to brace himself for massive disappointment - a coping strategy that had served him excellently in the past. Then, grabbing a bun from a street vendor, he flipped the old gran a half-coin of silver and blitzed his way down the cobblestones.
Welcome to Most High, the popular new anime. Don't tell he has the bun in his mouth.

The City Gods are Rudderless, the City Father having disappeared in recent weeks. He is presumed annihilated, a victim of the Abyssal Necromancer The Seeds of the Poppy.
I'm sure that he wishes he was. A Labyrinth Circle Necromancer can no doubt do all kinds of horrifying things to a sufficiently potent deity.

[ ] Write-In - Of course, as the Satrap it is your prerogative to do what you want...
Clearly surrender is the only feasible option. I'm sure we can get acceptable terms. It's not as if the ghost and dead bodies of the civilians are useful to anyone. Oh, wait.

As most of the choices count as training time according to Rihaku, I think that Tip of the Spear combined with Immortal Commander could be pretty good combo if we can afford it when the update comes. War God Descendent allows to ignore poor Drill (meaning lack of training) for our troops and increases the Size of the Battle-Group by one for the combat scene it is used for, while Ideal Battle Knowledge Prana just makes our War rolls better. This is crowned by Immortal Warlord's Tactic, which will give us once per scene/battle roll for a strategem (which can be our own unique one) that cannot be countered by magic that tries to see into the future about what would happen in the battle, and at the same time boosts the roll for it even more than IBKP.

And if we could accumulate enough XP (and get enough training time) for also getting Leagues of Iron Preparation continued by Tiger Warrior Training Technique and prevented people making the connection between similarities to Anathema techniques and our own... Yeah, I think we could raise a rather large fighting force in the next turn with it to bolster our remaining Legion.

The arguments for tip of the spear are pretty convincing which essentially automatically picks the other two choices. The addition of some sorcery would be nice too and since I'm pretty sure Ulyssian is nearing limit break this will likely be a good chance to finally do it hopefully on the field against enemies or at worst he'll do it in the city and simply decide to say screw what anyone thinks I'm making some prophecies.

I'm really not fond of the idea of actively trying to Limit Break... Especially with Shikari on hand to take notes.

It's not like we get the choice of when and where the Break happens (As it'll wait until the exact moment it can be the most telling), or the exact form it'll take (3ed Limit Breaks are invariably "The most dramatically appropriate form of excess for the situation at hand" )
I'm pretty sure Rihaku said somewhere Uly's limit break is still Ody's optimized Heart of Flint thing.
Not sure how that meshes with 3e, but it does more or less guarantee he won't do anything quite as foolish as giving himself away to the Shikari without reason.
He'd probably just kill them and be done with it. And he'd probably also go for the kind of decisions that let thousands get burned to death so he can have a behemoth that he can use to ultimately help save millions. There are definitely going to be consequences for Limit Breaking, but more among the lines of Uly becoming scarily ruthless as opposed to doing stupid shit.

By the way I'm curious when are we going to meet the Gold Faction is Ivory going to introduce them to us
Ivory was a hardcore Bronze Faction member until we dealt with the brainwashing they put on every reincarnation of Pearl and either Pearl is personally hated by one of if not the most influential member of the Gold Faction, if Ascendant Rosary is still alive, or the Gold Faction is likely too decentralized for there to be much point in being introduced to the faction itself.

Not to mention that Uly as a Solar who both knows about the truth of the Usurpation, the Siddies and the Gold Faction and is already pretty attached to Zao's faction doesn't really seem like someone they can manipulate to their purposes all that easily.
If we'd used our amazing prophetic powers to start dismantling the Immaculate Order we may have had enough to motivate an alliance or close cooperation, but we decided against that.
