[Exalted, ?] Most High

Ehh? We did?
Argh, I seems to have missed that.

Hmm, juggling Sesus and the rest of the Dynasts against Ivory..... Aaaaaaaaaa
We did. Here:

Okay, if you guys are willing to spend 150,000 more XP, then the connection between Odyssial and Pearl was so intimate and instinctive that, though it opposes everything she has been taught for her entire life, Ivory will go along with whatever fiction Ody / Uly claims. She's been on the fence about the Bronze Faction for a while now and she makes a snap decision to throw in with Zao.
Still, it doesn't say what the results of that snap decision will be. No doubt Zao will help solidify her ties to him in this moment of weakness, but there's room for us to do so as well. But if Zao has Ivory covered, wouldn't it be better to head to the Heads of House Sesus? After all, if we're going to play Dynastic politics, these people make for extremely poor enemies.

[X] Night Time - Moon is indisposed, but you can do nothing for her. Her fate is in the hands of the healers. Still, you cannot help but desire to act. Perhaps you could clarify the confusion within you on another matter: Reminiscent Ivory, who you keep thinking of as "Pearl." Memories float to the fore, like unanchored bouys, but you would be remiss to investigate them without also investigating her. It feels almost as if the two of you have a connection, but it is fluctuating wildly, uncertain...

I'm kinda afraid that Family Time might result in them wanting to see our Anima. While putting off the meeting might make them like us less, it does give us more time to marshal our resources to make our disguise even stronger.
"... Not right now, I have a headache."

[X] Night Time

Family Time is tempting, since we have the opportunity to do a Realm focused game, but cementing the loyalty of Ivory is more important right now.

we spent 150k on ivory, let's not waste the investment and lock her down. There are other ways to acquire pure money be it illegally or through our family.

I still say the current situation is a powdercaig waiting to explode. Better to get as much as we can and I see ivory as more valueble.

IDK we've been author alerted that the family time option has more than meets the eye, compared to last time, and may head off something troublesome. They're only there for this tournament after all, and the other options are less likely to leave (though to be fair Family may try to take us with them, given recent events).

They can't take you home, you're a student of the Academy! And Zao has absolute power over the Academy.

Kinda scary, if you think about it. What if he Limit Breaks?

You are probably okay, you can have Zao accompany you if you want. He can imitate a Fire anima almost trivially. After all, he is Captain Planet!

Fucking Heart, man. What an OP element.

Do we have enough charms to masquerade as a Flame Aspected prodigy, though?
Like we did, in becoming a Wood Aspected Immaculate in the previous quest?
I mean, we really need to redeem ourselves in the eyes of our parents, at least, then they would force us to show off, ah, our techniques as the 'successor' to the last Shogun, for how many long this is.

Why, he might attempt to murder a student during a public tournament with thousands of witnesses! Except there wouldn't be any attempt, he'd just succeed.

... it actually does make sense as a Limit Break, now that I think about it.

They're unlikely to ask for a full-on demonstration immediately, but with your MASTERY OF DISGUISE and superlative, if not maximally augmented sword skills, you would give a quite impressive accounting of yourself. They might think you're the same bloodline as Zao, since you have his dice caps supernal excellence!

Hmmmm...
Being a Shogun, eh.
Now I want to see that, again... Oh well.
Rihaku, how long until we can learn a TMA? Fire Style, probably?

He doesn't actually know much about Odyssial's past life or what is going on between you two. The person who knows the most is, potentially, you yourself.
Actually, about that. I thought Zao was actually old enough that he might have been around at the time of the Usurpation?

Is Zao old enough to have remembered a bit of the First Age? It's been ~1500 years since the Usurpation IIRC, and I thought Zao was nearing 2 millennia?

Or was he born during the Shogunate and is nearing one thousand years of age?

Apparently we need to take this if we want to capitalize on the opportunity we opened up by spending 150k XP on it. Our parents will still be around and odyssial is always going to be part of us from now on but from the sounds of things if we want to capitalize on this we need to do it now.

Here, have an Omake with no names named and couched thoroughly in generalities.

House Sesus was a martial House, home to those who prided themselves on their ferocity and capability in combat. Some would say they were too devoted to the arts of war, too focused on the supremacy of armed conflict above all else, and that their skills in the more delicate arts of diplomacy had suffered as a result. To those who would say such a thing a child of the House would reply that their strength of arms was the shield of the Realm. The legions of House Sesus guarded the interests of the Realm across Creation, from the Blessed Isle to the distant reaches of the Threshold. Any such theoretical weaknesses were immaterial in the face of the deadly threats that faced the Princes of the Earth.

Aside from their prowess at war, House Sesus took great pride in its bloodlines. The House had taken the greatest of pains to safeguard and shepherd its Exalted blood, to ensure that it was properly husbanded and shielded from mortal dilution. They prided themselves on their ties to House Mnemon and the strong connections it granted to the blood of the Scarlet Empress. Thus, one of the House's greatest shames occurred when a child of one of their illustrious bloodlines had failed to Exalt.

Sesus Ulyssian was a blight upon the breeding of House Sesus. What was more he had made himself as obnoxiously obvious as possible, going so far as to successfully join the Imperial Navy Academy and place himself openly before the eyes of the powerful and influential of the Realm. Granted, that was only possible due to the odd stipulations of Admiral Zao, and it was somewhat impressive that the depressingly weak child had managed to make something of himself despite his... deficient circumstances.

The balance of events showed some small promise in this sadly mortal boy, and so the the Elders of the House had sought to find a way to use him to forward the House's interests. House Nellens and its love for Mortals made for a convenient outlet for an unwanted mortal scion, and a marriage contract provided a way to strengthen the relationship between distant Houses in a time of looming strife. Perhaps something of use could come of this poor unfortunate soul.

And now! What strange news had come from the Academy! Sesus Ulyssian, who had long been a target of derision, both within the House and without, had Exalted as a Fire Aspect! And if rumors were to be believed had been chosen as a potential successor by Admiral Zao himself! True, it wasn't all ambrosia and Beast of Resplendent Liquid produce. The House had had no contact with young Ulyssian in some time, and he had apparently been influenced by the Admiral, with his strange notions about the primacy of merit. Though his position and influence were worthy of respect, his politics remained doubtful.

The continued validity of the arrangement with House Nellens was also in question. They had wished for an outstanding mortal, not one of Hesiesh's Chosen. Further politicking would be required to learn how this new wrinkle would affect the developing relationship between the two Great Houses. It was unthinkable that House Nellens would prefer a mortal to one of the Ten Thousand Dragons, but then their preferences were already moderately unthinkable. Their preoccupation with Mortals was truly odd.

Regardless of all else though, this was a day for celebration! One of their own had proven his worth beyond all expectation and joined the ranks of the Dragons' Chosen. Now all that remained was to contact their wayward child and welcome him into the fold. It must be his greatest wish to be finally recognized as a scion of House Sesus in full now that his unfortunate mortality was in the past.

With his previous unrelenting will to power coupled with the gift of elemental fire that had been unleashed within him there was no telling what heights young Ulyssian might reach, and it was for his own good as well as that of the House that he take counsel with them. He was but a headstrong youth after all, and it wouldn't do for so promising a child to fail before the new pressures that would be unleashed upon him.

You need Summoning the Loyal Steel to learn Glorious Solar Saber, I've heard.

Which you don't actually know at this point.

So at this point how much room did we have left for combat charms after everything necessary for disguise?

I imagine Melee is our supernal ability still, and at most we only need three charms to get the sword- call the blade, then summoning the steel, and then glorious solar saber.

Edit yeah supernal melee still yay

We'd have to use Larceny as our Supernal Ability to pull off that disguise stunt, one of the Charms involved was Essence 3.

On the plus side, the number of people who could Penetrate it are slim to none. Perfect Mirror provides a hellish penalty to someone trying to penetrate it even if they're using sufficiently powerful magic. And Sesus Motherfucking Ulyssian is going to be throwing a very high disguise pool out that cannot botch.

Flame did, but that's because he saw our Caste Mark before we bullshitted our disguise up. And Anys will believe him because she can check. But nobody else has the evidence, and Zao and Ivory stepping in essentially made it that she can't openly "Unmask" us.

Begun, the Shadow War has. Fortunately, we're well suited to be a fucking horror in that sense, thanks to Supernal Larceny--and by the time we're strong enough not to need it, we'll be able to pick up most of the Charms we'd want anyway.
