Esquestria: The House of the Sun - A pony cultist experience

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Dear reader! Whether you are new here, archive-reading and whatnot, or you are already someone who has been with us for quite a while, I would like to say a few words that I believe are best kept close to mind.

-This is an MLP quest. And more importantly, none of us are gratuitously cruel. So good things will happen on this quest, and I hope that enough good things have already happened to prove that.
-This is also a horror quest, so bad things will happen. Bad things might happen to good characters if you are not able to protect them, and you most certainly will not be able to intervene if you lack the tools to do so.
-And finally, this is a quest in which you jostle with powers greater than yourself, with all that it entails.

Please, do keep those things in mind as you go forward. But ultimately, this is also a quest in which it is hoped we all have fun! So if any of the above points is not exactly your cup of tea, or somehow make the experience as a whole "not worth it", then this quest might not be for you. Which is fine! Individual tastes are a thing, so don't think any more about it if you don't want to read anymore. And regardless, I hope you have a lovely day!

PSA for whoever needs to hear it:

Readers should take their own mental health into consideration when voting and not subject themselves to triggering narrative elements like rape or constant mental torture of a friend just for the Greatest Good of a world that doesn't exist.

If those are fine for you or Regrettable is even more triggering, then GREAT! More power to you. But you aren't a bad or selfish person for picking the option that keeps the characters you've emotionally connected with safe. [REDACTED for spoiler warning]

This is a high intensity quest that doesn't hold back when it comes to horror and negative consequences. Take care of yourself.

So Stage 4 influences without a Name or Hour moderating are all horrifying.

I wonder what your lore level has to be to withstand them without crumbling to them? 6? 7? Or is it just impossible to fully moderate them?

Well, Grail isn't quite as bad as Edge for this, though I'm curious what the hell a max edge influence would do to someone frightened.

[] "So the seeds . . . were planted, though for long years [they will be] nothing but an unfulfilled ache."
[] Keep it in reserve (Velvet will keep the Leash to herself, and consider using it if an unexpected circumstance arises, such as Twilight Sparkle or something else.)

This does make me hopeful for rescuing Twilight, though. This is one hell of a Grail bonus. And, well, remember the Changelings didn't even get a roll.

-Rarity will permanently become a Minion.
-Rarity will be upgraded to a Disciple (Grail 3, Forge 1)
-Rarity will ???

I just want Rarity to be upgraded to a Disciple. Saves us some actions.

Are you familiar with the solar exalted charm. Know the souls price?

We fulfilled rarities soul price. Its likely what stopped her from already being our minion was... propriety? Habit? Knowledge of pleasure?

Who knows, but the influence and the leash were just complete batshit overkill when it comes to her heart and mind.

Now don't drop them.
Never actually played Exalted, but yeah, Velvet kind of owns Rarity now. Not on purpose, not even willingly, perhaps, but… the leash retracted itself. It literally doesn't do anything. It's a frightening grasp to have on someone.

Remember, Velvet can control a max influence. If we had succumbed like Comet or even how we did the first time Velvet got hit with one, there probably wouldn't even be a vote here. We would just do it.

But yeah, Traits might just make it worse. After all, Velvet is Beautiful, even without this Influence. I'm going to be honest, I legitimately feel kind of sorry for Flutters, Twilight, and Comet Feet. Also the lesser Cult members. Even without Attention we're running +73 to most diplomacy checks, assuming the Influence hasn't made Beautiful give a double bonus or something. With attention it's going to hit, like, +89.

I'm not seeing any momentum so...
Moratorium, dude.

It's an interesting parallel certainly. I bet if that red xenomorph looking name were here...

Well I bet that name would make fun us for teasing Rarity with complete devotion for so long, after putting in all the work of fulfilling her hearts desire the honest way and everything. And then just not minioning her? Being devoured is just as pleasurable as devouring.

For shame Velvet. He/she/it/they would say. For shame.

Also, I'll note, that we have, quite definitively, ensured that Rarity is interested. Both she and Velvet may control themselves for now, when everything is in a rather poor place to even consider it, but there's nothing stopping us from… broaching the subject, with Stormchaser some time in the future, When we're not high on Grail. Well, except for maybe Bird.
Making an arrangement with the husband first would be greatly morally superior, it is true.

Question marks. They might represent something much less pleasant.

Or they might represent something pleasant. The story of how the Ring-Yew meets the Mare-in-the-Tree is a secret afterall. Maybe by understanding such a natural occurrence we too will be enlightened by that secret and thus gain a moth scrap.

Edit. Actually given how its Grail its definitively going to be something pleasant, so so pleasant.

Chances are we're actually going to run into Ezeem in the Church. And, funnily enough, we brought our own maximum Influence, which usually only drops there in canon.

What I'm trying to say is, Ezeem is going to love us.
Hey Copper, wanna see a trick? *Leash*
Councillors can shrug off the Leash. I meant more that she might have made sure her minions wer more compliant to Grail, so they're easier to control. Or maybe she made sure Grail didn't work as well on them, so that only someone as good as her could control them. Which, if she's our rival, would actually be kind of dumb since Velvet is one of those people as good—or nearly, at least—as her.

But honestly, Velvet's throwing around numbers in the vicinity of Celestia's typical combat score. Not necessarily her "just fucking DIE!" Levels of combat score, but definitely her average. Which is apparently good enough to defend Equestria for a thousand years. We could probably bulldoze Damn near anyone right about now.

Velvet is under the strongest Grail influence possible. She's got no self-control whatsoever here, because if she did, she wouldn't consider cheating on her husband, considering that the breakdown of their relationship leads to a speedy game over.

Do you not remember what would have happened with Soft Sweeps if we chose anything else? Is this the Tribal Door again?

Doing horrible things is so easy in this quest, so let's not do them, please.
Last time under Grail influence Velvet also kind of flirted with Soft Sweeps but we know that she never actually intended it, even if it looked like it from the side. I am reasonably confident that Velvet don't think about cheating here. It is shown that she want to help Rarity and there is no indication that she actually want her right now. Thus I actually expect some eldritch bonding ritual instead of anything explicitly lewd.

Also both options end with Rarity loving Velvet. The seeds are planted. Difference is that Rarity desires will remain forever unfulfilled under not dating option.

And since you bring Soft Sweeps choice remember that it was basically stated by alternative Velvet that making her Apostle was the best option, and I don't actually think that it is some misdirection on QM part. There are quests where QM explicitly states what every option entails. This is not one of them. There is even ??? in the disciple Rarity option. It may be something horrible like what happened with Starry. It maybe something actually good. Velvet cheating on Stormchaser is too mundane and obvious for me to consider as a basic assumption at this point.

Well... Maybe not forever but "So the seeds . . . were planted, though for long years [they will be] nothing but an unfulfilled ache" does sound like Rarity wouldn't get another shot at Velvet for literal years.

You called upon your faithful Hintchasers to commit some light grave-robbing.

I just love this.

The loremaster is just so coy about their actions.

I'm glad to see that the Hintchasers are really supportive of the loremaster, maybe we should lean into that. Seduce them away from the Master so they are under our rule. Given how the Master reacted to Copper she might be encouraging of us doing so.

The root of so much naughtiness isn't it?

And what eldritch horror story could even exist? Without those desiring to look beyond the veil.

Yes. That's it. It almost sounds silly when you put it like that. It almost sounds too simple.

But still, as you put things in perspective, you can see it clearly now.

Maybe this is your talent, the thing you have always been meant to do.

Maybe this is your sin, and you are planting seeds that future ponies will hate you for.

But most of all, deep down you are very… very…

Curious.

And you realize all of this because, right now, you are feeling a very peculiar kind of satisfaction.

Right now, as you have done so many times before, you have just sated your curiosity.
Ah, Velvet getting a frank look at her own desires I see. Well self knowledge is (usually) a win.

[Velvet Covers is now under the effect of "An Incarnadescence"]

And We Will Be Radiant.

You spend this time at your home, enjoying your newfound perception of the world. The wafting scent of the flowers in your garden, as they bloom anew each time you pass them by. The clumsily hidden gazes of adoration and befuddlement from your servants, as they throw themselves over each other to fulfil your every whim. The childish confusion of your daughters, as they stare at you wide-eyed unable to comprehend what exactly changed in you, when you still look exactly the same.
The more things change the more things stay the same.

Also this sounds noticeable as fuck. Pardon my language.

Besides, you realize the two "friends" Jade Whistle has been living with have not been having many moments of privacy, ever since the quiet mare moved in with them. So, what better way to repay them for their kindness? How else to extend them your gratitude if not by giving them that sweet time, by having Jade stay a while at your home?
Is this just us being cunning or does this mean we can tell when people want to bone from across the town @BirdBodhisattva 🤔

If we can I wonder if that means Comet got a similar conflict sense?

You say out loud, as you look at yourself in the mirror, wearing the still incomplete dress that Rarity brought for you to try on.

And the mare, whose reflection you can see right behind you, by the far corner of the room, mutely nods back at you in agreement.

Although you can see that she is not looking at the dress. She agrees with what you say, but she has not thought about the dress for a long time now. Still, you pretend you don't realize it.
Oof. A little painful.

But she also told you, through the furtive glances and suppressed sighs that you can see so clearly now, that as of late she has been lacking… inspiration.

And you immediately knew what she wanted. You immediately knew what she needed, even if the mare herself did not know it.
Lacking in the Grail department. Just a touch. For now.

You then look back at the mirror, this time looking straight at Rarity's reflected eyes. Seeing how the mare is all but pressing her back against the wall, as if desperately trying to restrain herself from…

From what, you wonder?

You turn around to face her.

"But you simply have to tell me, dear… what is your inspiration to do something like this?"
Getting a little predatory there Velvet.

You walk up to the mare, feeling as something inside of her desperately thrashes against its bindings, yearning for release, even as she musters all of her will to keep herself frozen solid. Her forelegs pushing her back towards the corner of the room, where she is now helplessly trapped, as they desperately
Getting a LOT predatory there Velvet.

"I… V-velvet darl-ling, I really d-don't-"
No means no Velvet. :anger:

"… that is natural."

You bite down the word "talent". You are sure she understands exactly what you mean.
...sure she did. Much like you aren't fooling yourself.

You say that, and then you bring your face closer to hers. Your cool sigh hugging her warm breath only for a moment, before the fur on your cheeks brush and she finally realizes, with agonizing confusion and conflict, that you were just moving closer so you could whisper on her ear.

But the tickling words that you say, right after that, hit the last vestiges of the barriers she has in her mind like a battering ram.

"And what can we do… what do you want to do… to make that happen... Rarity dear?"
I suppose. It seems. That Velvet is currently not feeling any sexual desire towards Rarity.

She might not even be wired for it at the moment

What she wants is for Rarities desires to come out and be nurtured much bigly. Which is to say get Rarity to admit wanting to bone and then jumping her immediately.

Still wonder why the sex part isn't obvious to Velvet. Though we are Velvet, and it's obvious to us.

You say those words, and then you wonder. You wonder if Rarity will move to adjust the tiara that you have on your head, and continue to work on the dress… or if she will do something else.
*gulp*

[] "So the seeds . . . were planted, though for long years [they will be] nothing but an unfulfilled ache."
-Rarity will temporarily become a Minion
-Rarity will stop being a Minion as soon as her Grail level becomes equal/greater than yours, AND An Incarnadescence ends (both conditions must be met)
-Rarity will RETURN to being a Minion, should her Grail level ever become lower than yours, OR if you come under the effect of An Incarnadescence again (either condition being met will be eno
Kind of rough on Rarity, she would have a lot of progress to make. Just to stop being our lovestruck Minion.

And unless we get her Grail equal to hers it is basically stringing her along. Which is... super not cool.

But not all flowers bloom, and not all flowers are meant to bloom, and not all flowers should bloom.

As lovely as the garden would be. Surely not horrifying?

[] "The real Hours don't meet the Gods-from-Nowhere, but the Ring-Yew meets the Mare-in-the-Tree in where the Wood grows lush. Their couplings are forbidden, and forbidden things have power, and this is the story of their coupling."

-Rarity will be upgraded to a Disciple (Grail 3, Forge 1)
-Rarity will ???
The ??? Worries me and should worry you. Grail is not the nicest lore. And the couplings of hours would surely be a horror beyond reckoning.

If I thought there was even a remote chance of us cheating on Stormchaser.

Velvet Covers is currently under the effects of "An Incarnadescence". QM will purposefully decline from answering any questions of "what does Velvet think about this."

Interpret this, all of this, however you will. I will not comment on anything that isn't explicitly written.
Tease.

Look, do you want to be the one to tell the Alicorn of Love that we seduced her boyfriend?
inaccurate.

Shining armor is hot.

Cadence is hot.

However our greatest desire for them is probably to stop wasting time and elope already.

Something I have no doubt we would graciously assist in.

I'm really not sure it would have helped. If anything it would just make Velvet get up to even more, uh… things.

The really sad thing is that, if it weren't for the whole minion thing and that Stormchaser isn't here to give his permission—though I honestly doubt Velvet wouldn't be able to smooth it all over the moment he gets home next—I would one hundred percent be on board with this development.

At least, I'm fairly certain this is just a natural progression of everything we've done with Rarity already, simply brought to the fore. And I really wouldn't mind if Velvet and Stormchaser came to an understanding.
If he was I BET Stormchaser would have helped us with Rarity ; )

As I said. Not all Flowers are meant to bloom. Or should bloom. Fair as they might be.

Though we control Velvet. To an extent. If your dead set you have the means to follow your desire.

Logically your best bet is to vote to teach Rarity next turn. Stormchaser will be there, and equipped with some lore knowledge.

Then we... help her get in touch with her desires.

This would indeed be the part where bird says. "Respectable married mare."

And while the 1st and 3rd parts might be lost to the Mansus, Velvet truly hopes the 2nd stays.

Question marks. They might represent something much less pleasant.
Yes. Like cannibalism.

It's probably just sex though.

Chances are we're actually going to run into Ezeem in the Church. And, funnily enough, we brought our own maximum Influence, which usually only drops there in canon.

What I'm trying to say is, Ezeem is going to love us.
"And you even brought your own outfit! So thoughtful!"

"It seems like your having a good time down there, so how about you slip me an invite the next time you need a plus 1? Or two. Or three! Who knows how many we'll get."

Well at least we have an excuse to why we didn't do our job to the Master. We were under influence.

"I was off for-filling my desires and was carried away by them."

If you are in a relationship with someone, and you start another relationship behind their back, that's cheating, even if nothing... explicit happens.

Also, see the quote: "Their couplings are forbidden, and forbidden things have power, and this is the story of their coupling."

Also, can you look at ALL THIS:

Although you can see that she is not looking at the dress. She agrees with what you say, but she has not thought about the dress for a long time now. Still, you pretend you don't realize it.

And you immediately knew what she wanted. You immediately knew what she needed, even if the mare herself did not know

And then you suggested that she stay the night every now and then. Because Jade was already here, and what sort of friend would you be if you let her go back home at such a late hour?

And now you are here.

In your study room.

At night.

With her.

You then look back at the mirror, this time looking straight at Rarity's reflected eyes. Seeing how the mare is all but pressing her back against the wall, as if desperately trying to restrain herself from…

From what, you wonder?

And you can feel as the mare's body flares up in response to that. Her voice dying out as if you had just physically closed her lips with a hoof, or with your magic, or with something else that is even closer and sweeter than either of those.

"What else do you… want to make real? What else do you yearn to bring to reality, like you did this dress…?"

And say that "nu-uh, see nothing sexual there!"

And say that "nu-uh, see nothing sexual there!"
I am willing to point out that Velvet might not see it. Warped as her own perspective might be. WE see it. RARITY sees it, but I suspect that all Velvet sees is desire, and at the moment sees all desires as equal.

And acting self righteous got Spike killed and Twilight kidnapped.

Remember the last time we had the option to gain a minion.
Zxzx24 Disliked this a lot*

The one where we had a choice between getting a Sith apprentice, doing something horrible, advancing the Anti-Victory Counter, or doing the healthy thing, which we did? That one?

Actually I meant the one before that with Twilight.

The Silky option was to turn her into an Apostle or set her on the path to eventually be a confident, I didn't really see that as much of a minion gaining opportunity to be honest.
