Emma Barnes, Princess (Worm/Princess the Hopeful Quest)

[X] Storms

The calling seems pretty set in stone at this point, but really I just don't care enough to choose. The court choice is much more interesting to me because, as far as I understand things, it will set the tone for Emma's character.

I'm going with Storms because I think it will be the most fun of the options. It's fairly close to Emma's canon mindset and seems like an ideology she could really take to. On a meta level I'm a little worried about the rigidity involved, but it also sounds like a wonderful source of conflict, both internal and external.

You both are completely missing the point. E88 and ABB were worse criminals in every way than the Undersiders as warlords yet the PRT was fine letting them do whatever they want as long as it wasn't as bad as Bakuda's rampage yet even then they put less effort into getting ABB than they did with the Undersiders. What do you think made the PRT consider the Undersiders that much bigger a priority than ABB and E88 before them? It was they were popular with the common people and opposed the Protectorate socially.

The Undersiders at their worst where cuddly kittens compared to ABB and E88 yet the PRT was willing to pull in out of town resources to deal with them, go after civilian identities and target families. Hell even when Bakuda was on her rampage they didn't call in out of towners like Dragon.

ABB/E88: Murder, Rape, Drug Dealing, Random Attacks, Forced Recruitment=status que and cardboard prison.
Undersiders: Humiliating Protectorate, one robbed bank, massive relief effort=Priority #1
By that point the Undersiders were literally the only villains left in the city. And yes, they were villains.

They weren't focusing on the Undersiders because they were opposed to the Protectorate and PRT, they were focusing on the Undersiders because no matter what Taylor says in her PoV, they had repeatedly proven themselves as dangerous, underhanded, untrustworthy villains, because they were the only gang left in a city that had previously been ruled by the gamgs in all but name, and because they were seriously poised to take over the city for real. Also because Tagg was a fanatic.

There is a huge difference between a hero group disavowing the Protectorate and known criminals disavowing the Protectorate.

And as I recall, the whole point of the villain team-up against Bakuda was to resolve the situation before the Protectorate called in backup, meaning that it was a very real possibility.

Their Practical Magic enhances social rolls, while their invocation is used to end conflict without violence (along with making things more beautiful, and organizing fundraisers). their charms might have combat applications but they are very socially specialized.

storms on the other hand, boosts all our combat rolls by our current wound penalty, and is directly useful for combat in almost all its applications.
Indeed, the limits of terra means that, with inner light 1, we can only use it on one attack/defense charm in a turn, whereas a combat invocation can have a weapon charm, celestial dance, and barrier jacket active, and use wisps on top of that.

Also, the practical magic of storms isn't to boost combat rolls, it's to boost all rolls while injured so it's also good for things like, say, hiding the fact that we've been injured from people.

Also makes you incredibly charismatic when you're beaten to a bloody pulp and should be unconscious to anyone's eyes, but you're still holding yourself upright and rallying the people around you.

(the fact that the Storms practical magic stops you falling unconscious when it's active is actually a surprisingly big deal. It means that all bashing damage is doing is making you more combat effective, and you don't fall unconscious when other characters start bleeding out, which allows you to stop yourself dying or treat yourself)

Changing my vote to...

[X] Storms

as the Discussion has convinced me this fits her character better.

Ok, Voting is CLOSED!

Let's see what the final count is!

Storms-42
Hearts-42

Swords-2
Spades-4
Tears-4
Mirrors-1

Off to Rolz.org! 1 will be Storms, 2 will be Hearts!

That seems quite impossibe to verify though, doesn't it?
To be honest, accusing people of cheating puts a bad taste in my mouth...

buuuuuuut...

you've got to admit that more than one first time voter, each on a separate site, is a little... odd? Uncommon? Especially considering that those accounts were both made and voted just before the vote ended?

My shadowruns are tesselating...

We still have to vote for invocations, tempesta isn't gone yet as far as I'm concerned. I actually kinda prefer hearts as a court for the beggining of a redemption arc, but I haven't given up on being a magical vigilante!

Hey as long as we eventually make our own Magical Girl version of Outer Heaven/Diamond Dogs I'm cool with that. *has been playing too much of MSGV The Phantom Pain lately*
