Alright, I said I would look and I did. I remember why I like fanon amy more. She's hardly a character before ward. She technically didn't participate in Levi's fight being held in hiding. She was in the birdcage during the behemoth fight I guess. That fight was one of the vague things in worm. I'm not rereading worm though. Anyway yeah. For the record, this Amy is 100x better just by having a personality that isn't just "woe is me I'm am incestuous lesbo" so you know, the little things.

Taylors A through E
Annette: It's okay, see, I finally figured it out. I was so busy trying to keep you in a bubble that I wasn't letting you live your life. So I figured out a way that lets us both get what we want.

Taylor: Uhhhh

Annette: No, no, don't give me that look. It's perfectly rational. See, with this new cloning tech I made, Taylor A can stay in the tank at all times, while Taylor E goes about her day and has misadventures with her girlfriend and any friends that aren't Emma.

Taylor: ...I'm Taylor A, aren't I?

Annette: The "A" is for Amazing, because, well, of course you are.

Taylor: Ignoring how insane this is, with that name scheme why isn't the other me Taylor B?

Annette: Darling, I don't need to be an English professor to tell you that "expendable" doesn't begin with "B."

===

Joking aside, it seems like Annette is finally leaning into her strengths as a tinker, where the solution to any given problem is "biomorph army." I feel like we missed some crazy shit off-screen with her somehow enlisting Squealer and starting another workshop. Curious to see how that all came about.

Technically speaking, I liked the description of the Dallon household and how it reinforces exactly how poorly off the Heberts were, and her conversation with Carol was palpably awkward, but I thought the chapter got a little repeat-y at points. A lot of the narration Taylor has about Carol, the house, and other stuff gets repeated almost verbatim in her convos with Victoria and Abby.

Glad that she's straightening things out with Abby though. It's the only time anything in their relationship will be straight. *rimshot* But yes. Characters talking and explaining themselves rather than having emotional turmoil over misunderstandings will always be a plus for me.

Honestly, am I the only one who thinks Annette's just making a viable, tough body that she's going to transplant Taylor into and then liquidate the old one or keep it around as a backup?

>the house tour was
>you guys live in a fucking mansion, you know that right?

Canon: Panacea never left Brockton Bay until she was 'caged.
Fanon: Panacea went to all the Endbringer fights.

Canon: The Dallons live in an apartment.
Fanon: The Dallons have a McMansion.

Canon: Amy was a screwed up bundle of issues wrapped up in a ball of teenage.
Fanon: Amy was an adorable little hedgehog.

The funny thing is, it seems to only really be New Wave that gets this "everything is better" fanon shine-over. Canon Armsmaster is a dick, Fanon Armsmaster is a total arsehole. Canon Piggot is a pragmatic bitch, Fanon Piggot is a trigger-happy control freak. Canon Danny is a nonentity who wants to care but doesn't know how, Fanon Danny is a neglectful drunk. Canon Blackwell is kinda useless, Fanon Blackwell is a cackling embezzler.

Clearly, the entire fandom has been over-exposed to Glory Girl's aura.

You seem like the kind of person to know their history.
Oof, the double meaning there hurts.

Except then someone passed in front of it and I realised that it couldn't be. The mirror in front of me didn't move as I did, didn't show a reflection of the person passing by. Because it wasn't a mirror. It was another tank.

Mom, what have you done?
Okay, well it should be pretty easy to find them though, right? She's a rogue biotinker for christ's sake. Doesn't the PRT look for power surges or something? Heck, look for any huge shipments and then you can locate the other monsters she's likely selling off. (God that sounds so bad and the idea that she's made what's essentially another Taylor but only in body feels so wrong) It's a giant tank that filled up the basement, should be easy enough. Also if Taylor can wake up in her sleep via her monster body, then just... I don't know, cut the power and kill everyone. I know she wouldn't and this story won't go that way, but I'm surprised she doesn't have claustrophobia with all the bad memories associated with the tank.

The apartment is news to me - I mostly thought the house worked for emphasising the class difference and because, well, I'm used to the idea of a family that size having a house, even a small one (blame being British and middle class?). I'm sorry if you think we're using too much fanon.

She's supposed to be scraping by on scrapes? Why does she have all this tech that can beat seasoned capes?
We haven't seen what Annette did off-screen. One of the downsides of an Unreliable Narrator is that you don't get all the facts. Maybe she got Coil as a sponsor?
I know she wouldn't and this story won't go that way, but I'm surprised she doesn't have claustrophobia with all the bad memories associated with the tank.
Maybe Annette mind-fucked Taylor into not having claustrophobia. If so, its probably the best thing Annette has done for Taylor so far in the story. That says a lot about their relationship, methinks.
explain please because i have no idea what you mean
A little sobbing sort of laugh. "Not great. Um. Upset about earlier. Worried about you all weekend. Angry at myself. So. Not great." A pause. "I also think I flunked the test in History. So. There's that too."

I wasn't sure why but I couldn't imagine Abby not being in the know when it came to history. "I'm - sure you did well. You seem like the kind of person to know their history." What am I even saying? The answer was anything that wasn't entirely relevant. "Is there anything I can do to - help? Or make things better? Or -" I wiped my nose on my sleeve before I could sniffle.
Taylor was consoling Abby about the "flunked" history test. Taylor has memory loss, making the statement ironic.

Canon: The Dallons live in an apartment.
Fanon: The Dallons have a McMansion.
So... apparently they don't live in an apartment after all? Accoding to Interlude 11h anyways

Bonesaw had retreated into the hallway that led into the bedrooms at the back of the house, the basement and the kitchen at the side. Mark threw an orb after her, obliterating the hallway, but Amy couldn't see if he'd struck home, not with the clouds of dust that were exploding from Hack Job's expired duplicates. Between the time it had taken to create the orb, throwing it and the lack of a scream after it had gone off, Amy knew Bonesaw would have gotten away.

Canon Armsmaster is a dick, Fanon Armsmaster is a total arsehole.
I mean he arrange the deaths of people who were fighting an Endbringer, including a teenage girl. Just so he could claim credit for something that didn't even work. He is a total arsehole. The only question is what can be done to prevent that from happening.

I think Annette is trying to build a monster army, with the dock workers as pilots. That terrifies me.

Lab Notes 3
Lab Notes 3
-.-.-

New notes, old notebook. As with my notes on anything i tend towards disorganisation, chaos. Need to fix this. And get used to using proper punctuation again.

SHE IS AWARE OF HER BODY

New tank - draining? Drain fluid to where? Cycle? Increase storage, need another fridge. Cooling/heating apparatus (those chemical bendy tube things?). Need way to defend her (weapon ideas could implant in self - risky?????)

Shopping list

  • Fridge
  • 80 pounds unspoilt meat (spoilt meat, chemically untainted, still living; acceptable)
  • Marrow bones (?unsure how many)
  • Cathode ray tv (talk to bursar i know university has some old ones?)
  • Sheet metal (???)

Taylor's route was diverted today. This is unacceptable. I suppose I can't fault her for trying to escape embarrassment - she's not perfect, nobody is - but she should have been more aware.

I should have been more aware. This reeks of enemy action. A chance to kidnap my daughter by manipulating things outside my control. Looked at on news, likely a tinker taking parts (ballsy to go after Arcadia, but also stupid (or grudge, I've done stupid things in the name of a grudge),or desperate?). Need to get to them before heroes do make displeasure clear.

ALTERNATE IDEA
She brought up idea for funding. Risks if use her but if use separately viable? (Remote Beast body piloted by her as beast?? Too much recursion risk not sure if tech will work with three bodies) Need to investigate rogue laws. Partnership w/ other cape (mystery tinker?) to decrease risk?

K&L. Manpower.

Need location - second lab? (unviable, would need to use it for this project, need nearby but separate location)
Payment? (raid Them again? RISKY) - addendum: hookwolf runs dogfighting rings - source of material and money? Controlled dogs likely to do better than uncontrolled, creating parallel view controller. Also risky but less so
Defences against attack (how to automate control??? B in Boston uses pheremones (how create???))
Need better base material creation

  • Spindle? Something like it? See it knitting muscles together
  • Something like a tree made of bone v. poetic
  • New centrifuge?

Also need to improve taylor's durability, she'll be a target. News may make link between employment of dockworkers and Danny, need to refine memory editing further (can i make it automatic? Live, somehow???) -TOO RISKY FALSE FLAGS EVERYWHERE

Her name is Sherrel. Made initial displeasure clear, offered teamwork. Interesting ideas until can make viable steelbone growers. Gets on well w/ K&L. helping provide engine for stealth field for easier material transport (NEED MORE OCTOPI)

Sherrel is… different. I almost don't know what to think of her. Her methods are brute force, crass, loud, effective, but she is unfocused, inefficient, and undisciplined. Brilliance comes in almost fugue-like states (note, tendency to draw me into them as well - possible power side effect? NEED TO TALK TO MIKE ABOUT THIS AT FACULTY LUNCH), like I'm looking at a completely different person. Clearly from higher income background and pretending not to be - K caught her in it and was upset. Her personality seems almost addictive - searching for pleasure wherever she can. Related to power trauma? Haven't asked. Thought about how I got my own. Will not ask.

Spoke to Z, J, T, F and others (lucky i remember their names). Not everyone is on board with plan but evidence of my actions against ABB helped. F v. helpful in particular spoke of wanting to protect own daughter (Lily????? I am bad at names) from empire. They knew a little of what happened to Taylor - I told them everything. Have majority on my side, rest disagree but won't talk. Need to find way to pay them SOON.

Taylor feeling stifled. Glad she's able to - do things without memory eruption. Felt very old today.

Felt very silly sneaking out of house. Hard to resist killing all the Nazis there. But made adequate money. Parallel controller was painful to use but worked. Dog died of later injuries but survived fight well enough. Possibly was too obvious, may need to send others if continue using this to make money (unlikely - do not want to fund Nazis in any way).

Plans for today - move Taylor's body (during her date????) to 2nd lab to begin preparations for durability improvements. Add self defence weaponry.

This is going well. I hope she'll be pleased.

Okay, so these are old notes then, and this is right after she finds out about her true body.

Need way to defend her
Interesting to consider now that these are older notes. Considering some form of tracking?

Nice to see the DWU isn't all on her side. It's likely if Taylor can contact them (she has suspicion Annette is working with Danny's friends, confirmed by the confrontation between Sherrel, Annette, and Vicky) she'd be able to convince some more that she is being held against her will. They're doing this for Danny and to help the Bay, they aren't morally messed up like a true villain would be.

Huh. The moving of her true body was completely accidentally planned to be on the same day. Interesting.

That last line hurts, but also gives a lot of insight into Annette. She had little to no idea of Taylor's knowledge, nor the escape plan, meaning she doesn't know if Taylor truly wanted to leave or if some heroes convinced her to. So from her POV, Taylor might still be salvageable, hence not harming her, and is a point of weakness against Annette since Taylor hasn't truly turned against her. (When Taylor escaped, her monster body did attack Annette, but that might not be seen as an attack, so much as escaping the situation as a whole)

Still doesn't change how much I hate her and how well written she is.

80 pounds unspoilt meat (spoilt meat, chemically untainted, still living; acceptable)
Buying in bulk, I see. Between Annette and the Travelers, Brockton Bay's butcher shops are in for a very good year.
Looked at on news, likely a tinker taking parts (ballsy to go after Arcadia, but also stupid (or grudge, I've done stupid things in the name of a grudge),or desperate?). Need to get to them before heroes do make displeasure clear.
Huh. I'd completely forgotten about this. It seemed out of nowhere at the time (even after Sherrel showed up in the flashback chapter), but now that inclusion makes sense.
I mean, who doesn't, Annette?

Ugh, dogfighting. Gross, Annette.

Interesting that she was planning to move Taylor anyway. I had assumed that Annette had somehow found out about Taylor/Emma/Victoria/Amy's plans to rescue her and had erased Taylor's memory of that. Hence, the missing Chapter 2.6 (it was 2.6, right?).

Was it ever mentioned why Annette erased that particular chunk of memories?

Oof. The lab notes. Always so tantalizing and frustrating. My guess is that these Lab Notes stretch over several weeks or months, given that she refers to Squealer as the "mystery tinker," then as "Sherrel."
Soooo, Annette considered having Beastie!Taylor pilot a Beastie. Beautiful.
I presume K=Kurt and L=Lacey. She probably tapped the Dockworkers for manpower.
addendum: hookwolf runs dogfighting rings - source of material and money? Controlled dogs likely to do better than uncontrolled, creating parallel view controller. Also risky but less so
Defences against attack (how to automate control??? B in Boston uses pheremones (how create???))
So, she used Blasto as inspiration, and raided Hookwolf's dogfighting rings. Nice.
Edit: Further reading showed that she fought in Hookwolf's ring by controlling a dog.
Also need to improve taylor's durability, she'll be a target.
Well, she at least has her daughter's well-being in mind. Even if Annette has FUBARed Taylor's mind.
News may make link between employment of dockworkers and Danny, need to refine memory editing further (can i make it automatic? Live, somehow???) -TOO RISKY FALSE FLAGS EVERYWHERE
From this, it seems like she has limited ability to screw with Taylor's mind.
Her name is Sherrel. Made initial displeasure clear, offered teamwork. Interesting ideas until can make viable steelbone growers. Gets on well w/ K&L. helping provide engine for stealth field for easier material transport (NEED MORE OCTOPI)
Oh shit, steelbone can not be good. Also, why she need octopi? Biotinkering?
Personal needs? :ogles:
NEED TO TALK TO MIKE ABOUT THIS AT FACULTY LUNCH)
Is Mike a coworker?

Oh, so she's paying the dockworkers. That makes sense.

Wow, just, wow. Annette must have been very desperate for money.

What the hell man! Shooting someone to death is barbaric!
If you absolutely must kill someone, then you need to use a civilized weapon. Like a lightsaber.
With bullets, theres blood and bone and viscera everywhere, and its extremely painful. With a lightsaber, there is a painless steam explosion. Very humane.

Okay, finally caught up, and I have so many things to spitball about!

So, first of all, the memory loss. Despite Taylor's initial fears, apparently the memory editing has only ever been done to cover up her own knowledge about whatever it is that the ABB did to her, which...well, we can all make assumptions, but let's not think too hard about details.

At first, I wondered how the memory loss during the kidnapping/heist fit into this...until I remembered that Annette had no idea how much of her conversation with Amy had been overheard by monster!Taylor in the basement. So it all had to go. The other huge gaps in memory can be explained by Taylor simply seeing incidental news that triggered the memories. If Amy and Victoria were tangentially aware of the head of the Dockworker Union being killed by ABB because of a news story, it's not exactly a secret.

Then, there's something that puzzled me for a bit. Taylor saying she was gay, and Annette saying 'good.' At the time, I thought it was awkwardness. But now, I'm wondering if it was because Annette was worried that being with a boy would trigger...unfortunate memories of whatever it is the ABB did that we don't want to think too hard about.

Also, on an entirely separate note, glasses. Taylor doesn't wear glasses anymore. And it's not just a thing at the Dallon house, it was mentioned before. So Annette hasn't just been altering Taylor's real, monster body...she's also been doing things to Taylor's human body. Small improvements, at the very least. A rush job on herself gave her massive retractable claws, after all, she could likely accomplish more delicate work with Taylor in the week she had to fix the implant.
