Dungeon Crawler You!

Vanquisher, if we go there, is a mid-long term goal, not important right now
We can only get into one of the clubs normally. If we go with desperado for taylor, there is no going back and changing to vanquisher. I have no problem with everyone else being desperado, but Taylor (and possibly Moose, depending on how the soulbond works) would very much benefit from Club Vanquisher.

Sysop has an ability to move tattoos. We can absolutely get access later, it's not a problem

Taylor will want to meet and connect with as many crawlers as possible. Therefore Vanquisher club is a mistake, as it is explicitly less used by crawlers and doesn't have the same "buy stuff" appeal

I'm not saying to do it to meet crawlers, I'm saying to do it to get access to the priests there that will be very useful for him, given his ability to take debuffs and negative statuses from people.

You know it occurs to me that Taylor could assassinate people really easily. Nobody thinks the yo-yo you're tossing to them weighs more than an elephant.
It doesn't. At all. It doesn't even come remotely close, we're never even going to get it to 4 pounds.

...We're you reading it as 100kg per level of Yo-Yo instead of 100g? Because if you're thinking it's 1000 times heavier than it actually is, I can see how you could think it gets heavier than an elephant.

Ehhhhh I'm exaggerating
EDIT: okay I actually didn't know how much mass it was

Vanquisher is pretty explicitly set up as an equal opposite to Desperado, it's just that it's easier to get into the latter. Plan Awareness is trying to get Taylor access to both clubs this floor, defaulting to Vanquisher if it's impossible and if he's impressive enough on the Desperado quest. Drew and Leo are going to get access to Desperado.

I think it's worth spending time on trying to get into Vanquisher as well, as it'll double the people we'll access from clubs this level, Taylor will be able to get good buffs immediately before a battle, and we'll get quests and information we can't get from the other club. I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get Moose into Vanquisher as well, it seems like we might be able to upgrade his smooches there.

Assassinating Jim Bob is in the lead, followed by massacring a drug den. It'll be harder for Taylor to get a good box on the former, but we'll have to be very careful not to accidentally gas crawlers on the latter. Moose's Spot and Acute Ears should help with that.

Leo - our buyer - and Drew + Levi - our gambler and expert - have to get Desperado access. Vanquisher access for Taylor would be useful but it's not urgent. Taylor with access to both would be cool and probably worth a box. Doing that via simultaneous quests would definitely be worth a box but that's because it's dangerous - we could easily lose someone splitting the party on active quests like that. Given that Taylor can shift tats next floor so we'll be able to throw the whole party at both quests if we wait on Vanquisher, it's not worth it. The Vanquisher quest board will give us a different view of local current events.

Jim Bob is either a simple, squalid murder which would be easy and at least only be one person, or a boss fight we'll get loot and xp from. The drug den would get interesting stuff for Drew to burn and the party is culturally primed to see dealers as acceptable targets. The trade caravan is the most lucrative, will require the most killing, and probably leads us into a trade war plot - I'm up for it, playing bandit in the ruins is good grinding and fuck skyfowl businessbirds. OTOH we'd have to go out, set up an ambush and wait on the caravan. The orphanage, poisoning or kidnapping would have disproportionate morale effects on the party and hook into town plots with complexity, subtlety and undesirable shit like that.

The sooner we get into Desperado, the sooner we can use the opportunities there to improve our survival chances.

Now to look at the plans: nothing that comes close to the above.

[x] Plan Desperado now, Vanquisher next level
-[x] Contact the Astronomy Club and the Valkyries to swap news and tips.
-[x] Visit Club Vanquisher, note down the quests, swap contact details with any crawlers at the quest board.
-[x] Visit Desperado Club, note down the quests, swap contact details with any crawlers at the quest board. Take Jim Bob quest.
-[x] Go shopping under Levi's direction
-[x] Leo and Moose case Jim Bob's place
-[x] Back to hotel to plan, distribute gear and spells, play cards to grind luck
-[x] Once night falls, murder Jim Bob

[X] Poppy Melkwasser is a seven-year-old skyfowl. She's been kidnapped and is being kept at [address]. Free her, bring her to [other address] without being seen, and deliver her to the arms of her loving parents. (Levi snorts and says "I don't know who this kid is or what the twist is, but there is no way this is on the level.")

The bait. I cannot resist the bait. I want to know what is going to go so horribly wrong. Also, this quest seems like it'll have the most potential turning points where we can back out or swerve sideways once we find out what it is.

[X] Raid the drug house at [address], kill everyone inside, and bring all the product to [other address].

If you're going to do evil, you should at least do it to people who aren't very nice so you can feel better about it afterwards. (Note: we don't know anything about this drug house. It would be very like the AI to have it be, say, a hospice where terminally ill skyfowl get their pain taken away by drugs that should be legal but aren't.)

[X] None of the above.

If we're conflicted about doing evil, we could just... not do evil? Choosing to hurt strangers purely because you've been promised a reward is the kind of thing that sticks with you if you consider yourself a moral person, and our party includes a teenager and a cognitive new-born whose psychological welfare we, as one of the two adults in the group, are responsible for. It's not like this is our only possible path to power.

Calling it now. The drug house is going to be a quiet place where local teens go to smoke pot and talk about girls, somehow causing even more child murder than the "burn down an orphanage" option.

Doing that via simultaneous quests would definitely be worth a box but that's because it's dangerous - we could easily lose someone splitting the party on active quests like that.
Awareness doesn't split the party, everyone's going to be working together. Either signing up for both is doable, or each half assists the other half on their quest. Nothing saying that parties can't assist each other on quests.

Edit: We wouldn't be doing the quests simultaneously (unless there's reason to believe it would be easier or more efficient, but that depends on what quests Vanquisher offers), we'd be doing them sequentially, the whole team on each, with Taylor opening the rewards from each quest simultaneously.

The sooner we get into Desperado, the sooner we can use the opportunities there to improve our survival chances.

Now to look at the plans: nothing that comes close to the above.
Drew and Leo will open their boxes early, solidifying them as Desperado before completing the Vanquisher quest.

We don't have to delay Vanquisher a level when it's perfectly possible to make it in on this one.

Edit: It might be irrelevant, as EJ can mess both with SysOp abilities and with the setting, and quest's canon is currently that they're both tattoos, but apparently in canon, Vanquisher membership doesn't come with a tattoo, but with a ring. Makes sense as an upper-class, lower-class sort of distinction. We might not be allowed to transfer the ring like we would a tattoo if the quest is realigned wIth canon, as we don't have a class ability for rings.

Me: What? No! That can't be right! I am the expert here! I know every detail of this canon flawlessly! I would never miss something like that! *checks* Gosh dang it, who knew that crow was such a delicacy? Mm, mm! Nummy nummy nummy.

Bah.

Whatever. This quest here is my gosh darn story and it'll gosh darn work any gosh darn way I say and just because Matt got it wrong doesn't mean I have to!

It's a gosh darn tattoo. But, y'know, a nice one. The kind that, if the universe has been created by a Hollywood screenwriter, your girlfriend's hoity-toity mother would be *happy* to see. Not the kind that gives her the vapors.

Going by canon (and by Donut's absolutely infaillible sense of taste) the only good tattoo is a deformed tramp stamp of a flat-faced purebred cat.

Only Chad Drew could possibly pull that off. He should get the club Vanquisher entry.

Anybody want to put any last-minute votes in? The votes are currently tied, with Poppy Milkwater a vote behind, but tragically split between the parentheses and no parentheses factions.

- Death to the bracketless! (The infidels!)
- A life lived in brackets is no life at all!

Some divisions are just too great. Sorry Poppy. (I bet a kid with a name like Poppy Milkwater ties back to the drugdealers somehow.)

I don't think I've done much real campaigning for Awareness, so let me just do that now:
  • It's compatible with all three of the leading votes, so it won't be knocking out your choice.
  • It gets information on the local drug scene, which will probably matter even if we're going after Jim Bob.
  • It gets us a populated (dotted) map, which will help anything we do in the city, and inform us if there's unstealthed crawlers in the gas zone. (If they're stealthed, we'll have to rely on Moose's Spot.) Hopefully we can soon find a Borough Boss or higher to take advantage of Moose's expanded map.
  • It'll definitely get Drew and Leo a Desperado pass, probably get Taylor a Vanquisher pass, likely get Taylor both passes, and unlikely get Moose both passes.
  • It has us get in touch with our contacts and starts us looking for a Mystic Scholar for the Create Spellbook Spellbook.
  • It sets up Drew for a Gravity Anvil + Gravity Resurfacing combo.
It'll take some more time, but we don't actually need to do the Vanquisher quest immediately, as long as Taylor holds onto his boxes until it's done.
