So, at the time of this writing, it is currently 10:47 p.m. over here where I live. In, ooh, an hour and 13 minutes, it will officially be New Year's Eve. To celebrate, I want to show you all something. Keep in mind that what you see is NOT the final product and is subject to change. And odds are, this particular arc is going to be a quite divisive for who and what I am including.
However, as I said in my earlier post over in Phantom, I am of the opinion that even a shitty character can be handled well if done so correctly. With that in mind, I'm giving you all a glimpse of what I like to call the "Taylor Becomes Motivated" arc.
Quick note, however, that you are free to ignore this entirely. I'm aware that some people may not like the idea of getting a "teaser," but I still felt like doing it.
Think of it like a movie trailer. And what trailer isn't complete without musical accompaniment?
"Approximately twelve hours ago, we lost any and all contact with the Protectorate capes sent to the United Kingdom to investigate reports of odd happenings there. We believed it was suspected criminal cape activity. Not helping matters was that the Slaughterhouse Nine was last sighted entering London."
"It has begun…"
"What do we do?"
The aid looked to Director Costa-Brown for assistance. The woman had her eyes closed, brow wrinkled and deep in thought. When she opened her eyes, there was naught but cold steel.
"Get me Emily Piggot from the ENE branch."
Seven figures all made their way out from the shadows of the sewers, greeting the armed forces of the police and Protectorate. Some were recognizable, but others looked like twisted monsters as though they were Case-53s gone wrong. The faces they could identify was enough to give them pause for concern, but the apparent leader of the group was the one that made them all pale in dread, especially when they saw half his face covered in what looked like metal growths.
"Oh, fuck…"
Jack Slash grinned from ear to ear, blood trailing from his eye down to his chin. "Hello, boys. Shall we play a game?"
Taylor grimaced, gripping her shoulder. Blood leaked through the bandages. "Who is he, Rodin?
What is he?"
Rodin breathed a cloud of smoke. "A half-devil. Has a little angel blood in him too. Or he used to before he crowned himself the King of Hell."
"You will regret being born useless and human…"
Chaos ran rampant through the streets as the Wards attempted to fight off the demons. Antares gritted her teeth as she found herself flung through a building and came crashing into a brick wall, barely having time to defend herself as the burly armored monster came charging after her and ploughed her straight into the next building.
Vista attempted to protect herself against two Furies, but could barely keep up with them. One attempted to strike her from behind, but was protected by Taylor and her Othrus.
"You've never had this much trouble," Rodin remarked as he watched the white-haired halfer make her way up the ruined skyscraper. "You gonna make it through this, kiddo?"
"I will show you your worst nightmares…"
Atop the skyscraper, a blade of ice and fire struck against pure steel. Taylor and her opponent danced across the rooftop, seemingly a blur to any onlookers who may be witnessing this epic battle. Yet in spite of Taylor's fierce determination, swinging arcs of flame and creating icicles to impale her opponent, she was on the losing side.
In another locking of blades, she pushed and roared. In defiance and power, her opponent rebuked her and knocked her away before closing the distance. With a single slash, Othrus shattered to pieces. Blood spewed into the air, gushing from Taylor's chest as her body slid close to the edge.
"I will give you despair…and death."
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets flew through the air, accompanied by the sound of clashing blades. Sparks lit up the darkness of the underground in which the battle took place, briefly showing Taylor engaging with another. Shotgun shells were blocked by a beautiful broadsword. Bullets fired from dual pistols were effortlessly cut down by Taylor's sword.
A flash of red lit up the area. The sword vanished in favor of a blood-red ax that met Taylor's flame-encroached sword. The attacks met and created a shockwave that demolished the area, tearing apart the ground and blasting a hole in the roof above. Moonlight shined through the hole, illuminating their surroundings.
Othrus was primed at her enemy's throat while an azure scythe was ready to lop off Taylor's head with the slightest movement.
"You've got a jacked-up notion of fair play, kid," the white-haired man told Taylor. "Not going to lie. It's pissing me off."
Taylor scowled. "That's
my line, edgelord! Who the hell are you?!"
In response, man grinned.
