I'm currently not super worried about potential berserker or saber cause berserkers are like final bosses extremely powerful but also extremely predictable and lack reliable ranged options, adaptability, and can't strategize outside of KILL making it possible to kite using homura's time stops to reposition our line-up of powerful ranged combatants out of B's reach, saber typically have above average stats but typically lack super tricky phantasms and, again lack regular ranged attacks.

Oh you should worry about the Berserker those guys are hard to take down. The reason why Fran and Spatacus lost in Apocrypha are because of their suicide attack.

Ask her to form an alliance. At this point, you know she is also a Master, and if Archer's abilities are anything to judge by, they seem to be quite powerful.

Just saying that their straight forward, making it easier to construct valid strategies against them. Consider the caster class they have a very high capacity for strategy and can effectively counter most other servants given enough time, information, mana and have oddball Nobel phantasms such as the necrocomicon (semi-infinite mana and minions, even up to kaju class) and rule breaker (which breaks servant contracts, negating one of the abilities of command seals, and allowing a servant to be a master) makes the class one to be feared for their unconventional tactics and deep well of tricks, while berserker's abilities are focused more on hoping a good moment comes along and that the other's phantasams can't counter it (I wonder how Gael bog's causality reversal+concept of health combo would stack up against Heracles's immortality via time reversal?)

[X] Hey, Archer. I have a small favour to ask of you. Pretty please with a cherry in the top. Here's a picture of your master. I want you to trace a copy in paper and show it to Mami and Gilgamesh, as well as Homura's, friends... Don't let Homura know about it at least until all of them have a copy... I want to see all of their reactions.

That's wicked and I like it

A- ar- do you jest? That is... *sigh* nevermind

[x] Archer, I would recommend exercising discretion. You will be having more advice incoming, it seems, and some of it may be at cross purposes with others. Do remember that your master's reputation is also a tactical asset that she wouldn't appreciate being discarded, even beyond the equally important privacy concerns.

Because I feel the need to disagree IC, since it seems that most communication does go through.

I'm not at all sold on spreading around the shenanigans, at least until we have a little more group unity and have dealt with O&K. And even then.

At least Mami and Gilgamesh. Mami would be putty and help homura because she is too kawai.

Day 3 Chapter 14
Alright, so witch hunting won 2-1 against training with Archer. Let's do this.

[x] Check through the route from Mami's house, past Mitakihara Middle School, across the bridge on your route to school, and past Makoda's house. Check in on Madoka while you're coming through. If you don't find anything on that path, loop past the Train Station to check the Hospital. Meh, maybe you'll get an idea of what to do about Kamijo Kyousuke before Sayaka does something stupid this time around.
[X] Witch hunting show Homura Caster Gil capability.

Your hand touches the doorknob, but before you turn it, an idea strikes you. You've been handed an opportunity to build your social capital with Tomoe-san, and it almost didn't cross your mind at first with as focused you were on taking to the hunt. "Tomoe-san," you say, hand leaving the doorknob as you turn to face your host. "I was about to head out on a witch hunt. Would you like to join me?"

Tomoe-san stands, smiling. "Yes. I would like that, Akemi-san. I haven't had a partner in... Well, in a long time." She prods her servant as she passes him. "Come on Gilgamesh, we're going out for a bit."

But her servant refuses to move. "As I have told you before, master Tomoe, these so-called 'witches' are the responsibility of you, the puella magi. If you cannot handle them without me, then my assistance is nothing more than a crutch without which you would fail. If you have need of overcoming an enemy servant I shall be glad to assist you, but until then I shall let you solve your own problems."

"Fine; be that way." Tomoe-san leaves Caster to his wine, joining you as the two of you depart.

Your route takes you first around the cluster of highrises where Tomoe-san resides, and from there the two of you make your way down the route to school. A once-over of the school grounds reveals nothing either. You suspect that Tomoe-san has already taken care of the Artist Witch. Even if she had, you aren't sure that the you of this timeline could face the witch that had once driven you so very close to suicide, before... Before Madoka saved you.

Tomoe-san attempts to make small-talk with you, but after so many timelines you aren't sure what to say back. You don't think that your responses have satisfied her, but she doesn't seem very concerned about pressing you to say more than you care to, either.

Continuing on from the school, your route takes you past Madoka's house. You can see Archer, standing vigil atop her roof, while inside Madoka and her family enjoy a normal evening together. You can see her at the dining room table doing her homework, while her father washes dinner's dishes and her mother plays with her younger brother.

You wish you could be there with her.

Tomoe-san must have noticed you staring; she turns, asking "Akemi-san, has something caught your eye about the family in that house?"

You nod, trying to fight back how much it hurts when you think of the many afternoons you spent with Madoka and her family in better times. "The daughter, the one with the pink hair in pigtails... She's the one that I like."

"Oh? That's Kaname-san?" Tomoe-san gives you a look. "Well then, we simply must stop by and pay her a visit!"

Before you can say no, Tomoe-san has dragged you in the direction of the front door and given it a knock. You can hear a feminine voice calling out "I"ll get it", before you are greeted at the door by Kaname Junko. She glances over the pair of you, still in your school uniforms, and says "Don't you girls think you're out a little late for a school night?"

Tomoe-san gives you a gentle nudge, compelling you with a "Go on, ask her." You swallow the lump in your throat.

"Ahh... Good afternoon, Kaname-san. Is... Is Madoka home?"

Kaname Junko's face softens, and she smiles before calling to her daughter "Madoka! Some friends from school are here to see you!"

You can hear Madoka racing to the door. You'd recognize her footsteps anywhere. Upon seeing you, her face lights up like a candle. "Oh! Homura-chan!" she says, as she wraps her arms around you. "What are you doing here?"

"We were just in the neighborhood, when Akemi-san mentioned that her good friend lived here." Tomoe-san answers for you. You don't mind. Just being close to Madoka is enough. "My name is Tomoe Mami; I'm sorry for dragging her away from you at lunch, and again after school, but I simply needed her help with something."

"Oh, no, it's okay." You can tell from Madoka's tone that it really isn't okay. "It's good to finally meet you, Tomoe-san."

"Likewise."

"Well, don't just stand there, come in on!" Kaname Junko motions for Tomoe-san and you to join her and Madoka. "Any friends of Madoka's are always welcome here."

We really do need to get going, but, well. Madoka. Anyway, it was Mami who dragged us over here, so she can't complain if we stop for a moment; we were going to go and keep being professional.

Also, @SVS wasn't Junko's drinking implied to be more down to Japanese work culture and expectations than anything else?

You know, I'm not sure. I always got the impression that it was a combination of both- She'll drink at afterwork parties because Nippon strong work culture, and then she'll drink even more afterwards because holyfuckballs her job is crazy stressful.

Edit: I would ask Alaya to very kindly not attempt to embarrass or sabotage Homura. Please? Thank you.

Wires crossed
Your name is Emiya Shirou, and for the past... Hour, maybe? Yeah, probably about an hour, that sounds right. For the past hour or so, you've been sitting watch over the house of Kaname Madoka. You're pretty sure that your master has a crush on her, and from what you've seen of their interactions so far you can't really fault her for it. That girl is just too kind. She almost reminds you of Matou Sakura.

You hope she isn't suffering like her.

You spot your master and her new ally - you hope negotiations went smoothly, and you can count Gilgamesh and his master as your allies now - as they approach the house. It doesn't look like your master is all too keep on actually stopping by, but Tomoe Mami is insistent. You shrug. Your master needs to socialize more.

Archer, I would recommend exercising discretion. You will be having more advice incoming, it seems, and some of it may be at cross purposes with others. Do remember that your master's reputation is also a tactical asset that she wouldn't appreciate being discarded, even beyond the equally important privacy concerns.

Huh. Well, that's a strange message. You wonder what your 'employer' could mean by it.

Hey Archer, Gilgamesh is Half-God and Half-Human right? Doesn't that make him...Half-Mongrel?

Yup. Okay, you think you understand now. Some part of Alaya must have gotten their wires crossed. Was that even possible? You aren't sure, but the thought frightens you.

At any rate, you had already seen what your master looked like before, when you browsed through old photographs in the attic. You have no intention of sharing that knowledge with any of her friends. If she wants to, then that's her business, but she hid those pictures for a reason and you know enough to respect that. You're not about to do anything that might exacerbate her various traumas.

The one about Gilgamesh has you laughing, though, and were this Gilgamesh not so radically different from his Archer incarnation, you would have no problems asking him to his face. But as it stands, you're in no rush to make an enemy of a servant whose master your own master has probably just secured the alliance of.

[X] Decline. You're sorry, but you should continue your patrol

As much as I'd be up for the cuteness that accepting would lead to, I feel like this is the only IC option. Homura is all about keeping Madoka away from the magical world at all costs - and Mami is a part of that world.

Okay I can accept that.

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to come across as a dick or anything. I'm fine with there being a little humour to break up the suffering, and at certain points I might even encourage a little levity. But not if it's directly contradictory to the mission, which intentionally embarrassing Homura would absolutely fall under.

Nooooooooo, I was so close to finishing my post. Now we need a tiebreaker.

I completely agree with your logic though. I just wish you had posted an hour ago.

Whoops! Sorry, SVS! In my defense, you update crazy often, and us mere mortals have work and sleep.

What can I say? I really like writing, so when I'm not updating but I could be I feel like I'm wasting my time.

But okay, now there's a 2-1 for accept. Fortunately, I'm almost done with that.

Ah, missed that. Too much PMAS and between that, Mami Quest, and Homura and Mami being relatively friendly for now in this one, I tend to auto-group the whole party. Forgot Homura is still trying to keep Mami and by extension Kyubey the heck away from the potential kouhais. Still sticking by my vote, though, since we're sticking a bit closer to Madoka during this loop, and as such I'm not sure Homura's ability to resist stopping for at least a moment would be as intact as normal.

Day 3 Chapter 15
[x] Accept Junko's invitation to stay, just for a little while
-[x] Mention you will have to go soon, though. You really can't stay long, but it would be rude to decline... and staying for a short while would make Madoka happy.

"Well, don't just stand there, come in on!" Kaname Junko motions for Tomoe-san and you to join her and Madoka. "Any friends of Madoka's are always welcome here." Silently, you consent to the invitation of Kaname Junko, and you and Tomoe-san enter. This is, unless you are mistaken, the first time Tomoe-san has been in Madoka's house in any timeline. She is silent, pulling back a comfortable distance while you and Kaname Junko speak. Madoka stands beside her mother, still looking just so happy to have you here.

The inside of Madoka's house is the same as it has always been. It hurts, to think back on the memories that you and Madoka made together here; now, all of them belong to you alone. "I apologize for intruding so late in the evening, Kaname-san."

"Oh, nonsense. Madoka's been raving about you nonstop since last night; I couldn't pass up the chance to finally meet you." Really? Madoka's been talking... About you? It shouldn't surprise you, but somehow it manages to do so anyway. "Is there anything I get for you to drink while you're here? Water, juice, tea?"

You shake your head. "That won't be necessary. Tomoe-san and I can only stay for a short while."

"Really, Homura-chan? I was hoping you and Tomoe-san could stay the night."

"I'm sorry, Madoka. Maybe some other time. But Tomoe-san and I really can't stay for very long."

"You'll at least stay long enough to meet the rest of the family, won't you?" asks Junko, motioning for her husband to come join the conversation. You nod.

How many times have you met Madoka's family before? You can barely remember. None of them ever change significantly enough for one iteration of them to be distinct from another. To you, they are the same kind, loving, welcoming family they have always been.

You want to be a part of that family.

You and Tomoe-san are introduced to Madoka's father, and to her younger brother. Tomoe-san seems especially taken by Tatsuya. You were never aware that Tomoe-san could be good with children. Perhaps it shouldn't have surprised you.

Your conversation continues for what ends up being much longer than you had originally expected, but eventually you reach a point where you can no longer take being in this house. It hurts too much to stay. You bow, thanking the Kanames for having you, and Tomoe-san does the same. Tomoe-san waits for you outside by the door, but Kaname Junko has asked you to remain. It's just the two of you now, in an otherwise empty kitchen.

"So, you're the girl that's got my Madoka so excited..." Her finger traces the edge of her half-empty glass as she speaks. You don't like the tone she's using, but you let her continue. "Doesn't surprise me in the slightest, actually. You're strong, cool, and - I'll even say it myself - one hell of a good looking girl, but I can still see that soft center of yours underneath it all."

She downs the last of her drink, tousling your hair as she returns from putting the glass in the sink. "You're a good kid, you know that? You and Madoka deserve each other."

Silently, you nod, bowing once more as Kaname Junko shows you the door.

Once outside, you and Tomoe-san resume the hunt, heading north from Madoka's house. Once the two of you reach the train tracks, you turn right, following them down the line until you reach the main station. Once inside, you can sense the presence of a witch's labyrinth. You can tell that Tomoe-san can sense it too.

You hope you aren't already too late.

You nod to her, a gesture which she reciprocates, and the two of you tear open the barrier dividing the labyrinth from the real world. Instead of the nightmarish orchestra which you had hoped against hope not to find but had still expected to, you are greeted to an open blue sky, with school uniforms hanging from clothes lines as desks float by like clouds.

This is not where the Class Representative Witch is supposed to be.

Wat do?

downs the last of her drunk

I don't know why that is funny to me, but, funny typo is funny.

This is not where the Class Representative Witch is supposed to be.

... interesting. Not unreasonable, but interesting.

[x] Be cautious. Don't expect things to be the same as the other times you've fought this Witch; it's moved, and Witches are stronger this time around.
[x] Ask for Mami's thoughts about how to deal with this Witch. In the absence of other plans: Be ready to deal with familiars if or when they attack. First, sweep for any civilians- if there's one in danger here, you need to get them out. Keep an ear out. If you think there isn't anyone here, start taking out all the familiars you can manage; if that doesn't draw the Witch to you, start searching for it.
-[x] Modify this plan as necessary to follow Mami's suggestions. Try and determine if she's experienced Witches suddenly becoming much stronger in the last few days, or if they've been about the same. If necessary, ask directly: It won't reveal anything dangerous about your time travel if you're just checking "to make sure your experience with Witches lately has been atypical", and it's crucial you be able to judge the relative combat abilities of other magical girls, and Mami herself, in relation to the answer to this question.
