I really wish people wouldn't go for the Sunrise Mountain Passage right away - we have no idea how long it'll take, wouldn't expanding our economy and settlements a little bit first so we can sustain effort towards big projects like this for longer be better?

Mob mentality
Nah not really. I mean they do it probably because golden age is best time to under take projects like this, but few might know there may be a golden age reaction following this to consider.

Should be.

Especially since we get extra actions if we can add a bunch of extra villages.

I don't think it is, actually. Golden Ages offer shiny but expensive opportunities every turn. As such, focussing on a megaproject causes resource shortages.

I want the mega-project because I want our people to be used to doing mega-projects. Mega-projects have lots of potential benefits. I mean, this one is probably a major help towards assimilating the mentir. Which is pretty good. Let alone any cultural changes from it.

That's the thing, they view the mega project as an expensive opportunity. And based on golden ages historically, it may seem like the obvious thing to do to for them at a glance.

I mean, sure? But also, its a MEGA-PROJECT, they are super fancy, improve prestige, give massive benefits, and are basically always worth getting. I'm up for nearly any plan that gets us more mega-projects faster.

Though admittedly, I don't actually understand the mechanics of this quest. So... that probably doesn't really help.

I'm not sure why people are pushing so hard for it. It's not like it's going anywhere anytime soon we can do it whenever like when we have our capital a little more filled out and have some more Econ and actions to use on said mega project.

yeah, but this is our first mega-project. This might be THE first mega-project anyone has done. Which means if we get it done fast, we might get a civ bonus for it. Prestige if nothing else.

Still trying to complete it right now is gonna put a big strain on our Econ at the moment why not take a turn or two to build the Econ the we can really focus down the project with less strain to our Econ and the people.

Just going to say that Golden age will end when requirements are meet for it and golden age generally means peace and prosperity and throwing our resurces in mega project instead of first going and trying to have economic backbone to undertake such projects won't make it last any longer, might even shorten it.

well... how does that work? I've never been able to figure out how permanent and temporary stats work. Or what effect settlements have or... really what much of anything actually does in this game.

I think that permanent economy regenerates halfway automatically while to get temp economy you must take actions to get it and once you spend it it doesn't come back.

As for permanent/temporary stats: We have permanent stats in things that sort of represent the baseline capacity to do those things. More shrines means more Mystic. More people means more Econ.

Temporary stats represent boosts or damage that will last for a generation or two but eventually recover. At the start of each main turn, temporary stats move halfway towards the permanent stat (rounded down). So 4 (temp 6) becomes 4 (temp 5). 3 (temp 0) becomes 3 (temp 1).

Lots of things will gain or cost temporary stats - mostly Econ, representing putting lots of effort and labor into some big project.

And that's why I think gaining permanent stats by any means necessary is good.

I mean mega projects are fine and all but wouldn't it be better to use golden age to expand inside our province and get more actions.

Ok, but new settlements don't increase Econ on their own. The only action that does is Main farming right? We need 3 more settlements to get additional econ, and that's the only thing we have that permanently increases our stats right?

I would like to get extra actions yes. But doing so would take 5 turns of doing nothing but Main Settlements, which I'm pretty sure we don't have the econ for.

Permanent stats represent how much of something the civ has over all while temporary stats are how much it currently has. A low permanent with a high temporary means that you don't have much of something, but currently have a large surplus of it while a high permanent and low temporary means that you are running short on something you would otherwise have a lot of.

Mechanically, you spend temp stats on stuff and at the start of each main turn, your temp stats regenerate halfway back to the permanent stat, effectively giving you free temp point stats to spend. This means that a higher permanent stat will result in you getting more free temp stats.

Settlements is basically settling land and claiming it and the local resource for your and also increasing the population of your civ. Mechancially, this means settling provinces enough for them to count towards modifiers. If you look at your government type, having provinces will result in more actions and higher stats.

All of that said, the narrative is important and just because something works mechanically, it might not work out mechanically or at least not in the manner that the players want.

Incorrect.
[] [SEC/MAIN] Settle Land = (Target)
S: -3 Temp Econ, -1 Temp Martial, +1 Settlement Progress, +1 Econ,
M: -6 Temp Econ, -1 Temp Martial, +2 Settlement Progress, +2 Econ,

As you can see, each point of settlement progress will give you +1 permanent Econ.

Additionally, Mysticism can be increased by gaining new settled provinces and building shrines. Ways to boost permanently other stats have not been discovered/unlocked/invented yet.

Oh... well now I feel like an idiot, what I get for not going back and double checking the stuff. Alright, so 5 settlement actions worth to get our first province, 10 to get our second and another action. That's... not happening any time soon. Though with more econ, we can afford more faster and the like. Still, that's a hell of a long time to go without finishing that mega-project. and I really want that mega-project.

Mega-project lasts long to and having higher stats and more actions will actually help us to finish it faster and safer as Golden age can end leaving us with unfinished mega-project and other problems so we shouldn't count on it.
Getting another action lasts 3 turns or better said two main settlement actin and one secondary.

More actions isn't the main reason why settlements is a good idea, it's more of a long-term benefit.
The main reason is that it raises permanent econ, and there's evidence from the wars with the Merntir that a high population at least helps in civ defence. Raising the permanent econ refresh lets us do some econ-intensive actions without having to spend a turn doing temp econ-generating activities.
I'm thinking lets increase our temp econ refresh to 5 via settlements, then start on the megaproject.

I'd disagree with this; from my understanding of the mechanics the golden age is a better time to do costly econ-generating activities, like settlements, which we'd find impractical at other times. This lets us then do the megaproject after the golden age is ended.

I just don't trust "We'll do it later, promise" sentiments in civ quests anymore...
that's definitely another concern. I mean, I'd be up for a Main settlement action this turn in greenbay. Which would get us up to 10 permanent Econ, and if I understand it correctly, leave us with 5 temporary at the start of the next turn. At which point we could a megaproject secondary, and a farming secondary, which would put us at 6 temp for the next turn, at which point we could double Settlement again and get us to 12 permanent econ, at which point we could do secondary settlement and secondary mega-project until it finishes and just keep building up econ that whole time since we'd be making back all of our econ expenditures each turn.

Wait, that's not including the Golden Age stuff. With Golden Age, we'd start with 6 temp econ next turn after a Main settle land, which would let us do it again the turn after. Leaving us with 7 temp econ at the next turn, from there we can go all in on the mega-project and always have some econ left over.
