Did we finally get a male hero in Derfyl?

[X] Try to get their secrets of wolf-taming and giant boar-riding from them.

Get what we can before we have to drive em off. Seems their values are to incompatible with the People to keep long term.

Too bad we didn't get a Diplo hero. Critfails couldn't have happened if we did.

You didn't crit-fail. You just rolled badly and one of their values made things worse whilst also rolling really well on the other part of the action.

Our priests engage in theological discussions with their priests, roll a Nat 1 and end up getting converted to heathenism.
That isn't an possibility. Your people, especially your priests, aren't that easily converted.

[X] Try to engage them in trade to offer them aid in a manner which won't offend them.

We can't get secrets of wolf taming and giant boar riding if they hate us.

[x] Attempt to convert them to the ways of Arthryn and her Daughters.

Probably won't work, but can't really make the situation worse.

Attempting to convert people who hate your guts has failed throughout history, and the success stories usually come about through slaughtering everyone until the worship out of fear. I don't want to go that route.

Also: "The People were the oldest surviving civilisation around and the clearly greatest, about to triumph against all of their foes while being clearly superior to their barbarian neighbours to the south and east."

Time for super shitty hubris now I guess. :(

There is no magic button to get them to instantly like us. We need to learn more about their traditions and culture so that we don't make a similar mistake as we did last time.

Eh. Fine.

[X] Leave them be.

Not like they can hurt us. For now. We'll just have to see what ends up happening later.

I find that much of our interactions with other political entities ends up going badly and this will probably end up being no different. Let's do it anyways.

Look, I just really like to make villain'ish speeches, and boasts of invincibility are some of the best

Ehh if they want a war we will give them a war, this time we should either Chase them out of their lands and thus banishing them back to their old territories.

I do not want to deal with these guys being fools about it, no more helping but damn well insuring we can take them apart if need be.

Ah just leave them be, let them think we are "weak" while our spies watch from the shadows to make sure that any plan they have wont effect us, when they do, well, our cats are basically ninja.

[X] Leave them be.

Trying to help people who dont want it isnt the way to do things, let them suffer problems on their own and keep to ourselves, also us being basically ninja we can pretty much do anything to them without them knowing it.

Sort of. The People view themselves as being more civilised and advanced than their neighbours and they are honestly the latter given the collapse of any rivals in the region that could contest that belief. And while they view themselves as being morally superior to the 'barbarians' with their lack of violence, being more accepting of people and worship towards the Arthrynite goddesses, the People do hold a lot of respect for the 'barbarian' ability to wage war.

So while there is a lot of pride and superiority going on, it is more believing that their culture is better than believing that they are born better, something you can thank Born Equal for. Thanks to Born Equal, the People are perfectly happy to accept outsiders into the People even if they strongly encourage immigrants to abandon their old barbaric culture and embrace the civilised culture of the People. So it is less 'We are inherently better than you' and more 'We choose to be better than you' which still kind of sucks, but isn't too much worse than modern day people in First World Democracies looking down upon Third World Dictatorships.

Basically regular hubris that has basis in fact at the moment.
