Look on the bright side, at least your civilisation isn't collapsing due to a deadly plague, a bunch of Martial Heroes and bad weather.
They also built a couple of palisades this main turn after finishing their last shrine during the previous mid turn.

Different one. That one in the Lowlands was just a Martial Hero while this one got rolled up this turn and is a Martial/Diplo Hero.
The thing is, I had already decided that would be their actions before I rolled up the events for the Nomad Hero invading. I figured that they would either build trails or palisades and figured that after being on both ends of surprise attacks on a village, they would go for the palisades over the trails.
Then the nomads invaded so it turned out that they were right to choose defence over connectivity.

I can barely believe this. I was just looking through the rules doc and the nomad Martial Hero invading was just enough to hit the requirements for an Epic Age, which I shall quote directly from my rule doc.

Major Power by the dint of the other powers collapsing.
The Arthwyd are a Great Power while the Merntir and the Nomads are Major Powers, but that is only due to all of their powers collapsing, but since how greatness of your nation on the international stage is relative to the other contenders, you managed to all get yourselves higher on the ranking than you should be.

Three Martial Heroes versus a Genius when we're at a logistical disadvantage.
If they can hold out long enough for the rest of our hunters to get there, then we should be able to overwhelm their Genius with home advantage.
A good thing about our extremely theocratic government is that the Merntir are very unlikely to flip to the Nomads even if they are being completely pressed down because we derive our legitimacy from the Goddesses of the People.
