Well that could have gone better.

I do hate drinking so I also prefer listening to Stories with the Kids.

First Week of August #6 Freedom Day #1
[X] Porker comes to you to apologise for how Johnny acted in the heat of the moment. Out of sight from everyone else.

"Sorry."

One brow of yours rises up, looking at your friend before you. Not that long after this whole party started the Pig Mobian managed to find you and take you to some lone alleyway. Clearly wanting to talk to alone without anyone to interrupt.

"He just... He can be really straightforward in how he approaches things you know? He doesn't beat around the bush. And... Well... Giving it some thought myself I guess the idea of getting a whole movement going against Eggman isn't exactly a bad idea. So... Yeah, I'd like to apologize for myself and Johnny." They say, scratching at their cheek as they look off some other way.

You use Empathy to gauge what Porker is really on about here #3d6 = (1+5+4) 10.

Your eyebrow is still raised up. He's trying to apologize on Johnny's behalf rather than letting his friend do it himself. Or rather more specifically... No, he's not trying to help Johnny out of being his friend, he's doing this to instead try to make this whole situation between you and Johnny disappear? You can't exactly tell anything further than that though.

Porker himself just stands there awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable as he waits for you to answer.

[X] A certain familiar lady comes out of nowhere to hug you from behind, it's Honey! She says she wants to check out all the rides strewn about.

Your field of view can only be describe as fantastical. Stalls set up from so many paths and between buildings. Rides and other such fun activities thrown randomly about. People talking and laughing about, feeling like music to your ears. Well, other than Mayor Tony who is ironically enough trying to sing, poorly, at the top of his lungs. In a state of awe you can only feel surprise when you feel yourself hugged by behind, with a familiar female voice entering your ears.

"Guess who!"

Ha! Only one of your friends would do something like this. "Yo, Honey!" You say in delight as you look back right at her, with a new dress on this time. A striking blue, though with an overall similar design to the usual dress she wears. Along with the red ribbons now gone, her hair completely down compared to the usual pigtail style she usually has it in.

She smirks as she notices your gaze. "Like it? Got this out as soon as I found out you'd be attending this thing. Same blue as your quills!" She spins, showing herself off from all angles. You can't deny that she definitely knows her fashion, that's for sure. "Seriously though, that whole speech you did up there was so cool! Inspiring people to take back their home rather than sit back? Awesome!" Her pumped up energy lightens you up, letting you more easily forget the confrontation with Johnny that you had earlier. "You should've told me you were planning on doing that, I could've like, designed a logo and everything!"

You wave her off. "Yeah yeah, let's just say it was a 'heat of the moment' sort of decision."

"Oh come ooooon, no need to downplay it with little ol' me. You did a really good job up there! Plus, putting all the responsibility on you on saving our behinds is a bit much of an ask, ain't it?" She really knows how to get your mood up, doesn't she? You might as well keep up with it.

"Wanna go check this place out?" You suggest to her.

She positively beams at that, taking your hand and practically dragging you along. "Of course! Now come on, there's candy stalls and rollercoasters and ferris wheels and carousels and bumper cars and magician shows and fortune tellers and swings rides and-"

Oh she's not gonna stop talking unless you interrupt her, is she? Now what fun is there to be had around here...

[X] Mayor Snow is in front of an audience of kids, telling a story as they gather around her. Maybe you should listen in?

You look on at a stage, not too dissimilar to the one you were on before, but this one is much smaller in size. You can see the white-feathered Mayor on it, with little chairs with even littler Mobian children on them, all paying heavy attention to her. Some with their family, some not.

"Ahe-ahem, sorry, something stuck in my throat there. Oh gosh, let's see how to begin this..." A kind and soft atmosphere comes from the older woman, one that you didn't really get to see whilst she was with Tony. You lay back against a wall, wanting to listen in to something you've most certainly never heard of before. "Long long ago... There was a clan, their name now lost to time. It is said that they were more technologically advanced than even we are today-"

"What's te-techno-techthing mean?" A young purple with green highlights lemur Mobian shoots their hand up, confused on what the Mayor means.

"It's good to ask questions whenever you don't know something, great job. To explain it, I'll give you an example. Think of something like a car or a boat, now add an extra thing to it."

"Like a lazer!"

"Y-Yes. Something like that. Perhaps even stuff we can't imagine being able to build. That is what that clan was able to do, and very easily in fact! Enough so that they managed to almost take over everything!"

"So they're eggbutts!" With one of the kids saying that, all the other kids giggle around them. And, well, you can't help but smile at that, given that you popularized calling the Doctor those kinds of names.

"Exactly, they were much like Eggman. Both in advanced technology and the size of their egos. Tales also say that they built metal beings that could walk, like the Badniks, with feelings and minds of their own. And, of course, they used that to their advantage to conquer everything around them. Other clans and tribes unable to confront them in all their might and fury, only being able to sit back in fear and watch. It wasn't until a robot of their own creation, destroyed their own civilization, and managed to give the other clans of the time a way to fight back against them. But... Before they could, suddenly, this great clan vanished into thin air, never to be seen again. Whether it was that creation of theirs that finished them off, or some other event that caused them to disappear, we do not know... And that is the story behind the meaning of our years, in this year of 4624 AN."

"Laaaaaame." One of the kids say in retort, standing up and walking away. The Mayor looks as if she wants to say something, but does not as the children and their families all starting going away one by one.

Sheesh, even you have more patience than that. Then again, is it really a compliment to compare yourself to children? "I thought it was neat."

"Oh, Sonic! You were here the entire time?" She exclaims, noticing you for the first time.

"Yup." You say back casually. "Got any more details? I'm don't exactly know much given my upbringing and all."

She looks surprised at that, her feathers ruffling up as she gets ready to talk again. "Well-um, right... Well that's the thing, there really isn't even much to say about it. We don't even exactly know what the AN means when it comes to our years. It's honestly insane how a story like that, however brief our knowledge of it is, has survived over the years yet we barely even know our own history a few hundred years out." She closes her eyes on that. "And now that we definitively know that there's something out there other than pure sea due to you-know-who... Perhaps we could get some answers on how we got ourselves stuck in this situation to begin with."

Holy shit is that the Nocturnus Clan, from Sonic Chronicles?!
I thought I was the only one who remembered that game.
Also, a robot of their own creation, was that Emerl?

[X] "Porker," you say. "Thanks for trying to fix this...mess. But, while I don't know Johnny for as long as you do, I have the feeling that I need to talk straight to him, if there's any hope of saving our friendship."
-[X] "Aaaah, curse my damn mouth. I was so excited about the idea of the Freedom Fighters that it all just went through, and people ate it! Of all the times that less would be more!"
-[X] "...it's weird, huh? All this time, I managed to get through by going with the flow and a bit of courage. Yet, only now I feel regret."

-[X] You give a small pause. "Say, Honey. Can you give me some advice to talk with friends? I...I think I screwed up with someone and I don't know what to do now."

[X] "Yeah, I understand that. Knowing yourself is a pretty important thing, after all!" Maybe this was why you made that deal with Mayor Tony.
-[X] "AN, AN...Uh, I'm not the best person to talk about time -like, I still need to understand what a year is -but maybe the A is of after...something?"

Maybe it's just my stubbornness, but I really don't want to apologize to Johnny, cause I still stand that I feel like it was the right call to make, even if now we gotta deal with politics.

Can't please everyone, sadly.

Johnny thinks that we want every Jane and joe to go fight the badniks if they want to. if we explain to him that no, that wasn't our idea, he might calm down.

The big question is, will he even want to talk to us if we don't apologise?

I personally don't wanna apologise either because now that I reflected on the creation of the Freedom fighters, I don't regret it.

But it might be necessary if we want to salvage our Relationship with him.

The solution here is to apologise for not telling him, but refuse to apologise for doing it.
Admit what you did wrong, and explain your thought process, but don't back down from seeing it as a good idea.

Deciding that this awkward silence has gone on for long enough, you speak. "Porker, thanks for trying to fix this... Mess. But, while I haven't known Johnny as long as you have, I do have the feeling that I need to talk straight to him, if there's any hope of saving our friendship."

Your friend stays silent before you, letting you continue to talk. "Aaaah, curse my damn mouth. I was so excited about the ideaof the Freedom Fighters that it all just went through, and people ate it! Of all the times that less would've been more!" Frustration can be felt in your voice.

"To be honest... I think he's less angry at you, but more at the fact that it actually worked." Porker finally speaks. getting in line with what you're saying. "A mixture of that and it being all so sudden sent him a little haywire. Heck, i-it sent me haywire too, though to a lesser extent."

You can help by sigh at that. "...it's weird, huh? All this time, I managed to get through by going with the flow and a bit of courage. Yet, only now I feel regret. Be honest, Porky. Is there any way to fix this?"

He looks like he was about to say something, but then stops as soon as you say the last bit. "...Porky?"

"Yeah, think of it as like, you know, a nickname for you." You say nonchalantly.

It doesn't take long before the mood starts to shift, and he begins to giggle under his breath. "Porky? Really? Hahaha! P-Porker is already a nickname itself!" He starts to bend down, holding his gut as those giggles blow up into a full-on laugh, tears forming at eyes as he just keeps on going. "Porky! Hahahaha!"

You certainly didn't expect this change of events, though you can't stop smiling as a result of it.

"T-The name-" The Mobian friend before you can't stop laughing hysterically at it. "-My true name i-is Oscar, Oscar the Pig. I-I just, give me a minute."

And you do just that, letting him gain some time to just breathe as he calms down.

"T-To be truthful, as his friend, I think you just need to give him some time to think on his own. Might take a few weeks, but he ain't the type to hold too long of a grudge."

-[X] You give a small pause. "Say, Honey. Can you give me some advice to talk with friends? I...I think I screwed up with someone and I don't know what to do now."

You quickly try to get things into track here. You look around before spotting one of the things Honey pointed out. "That rollercoaster of there seems to be a very interesting thing to go on..." And maaaaaan does it go up high! You see what looks to be a steady rise to the thing before it plummets into a spiral.

"Well come on then, let's go!" Still with her hand on your arm, she practically starts dragging you towards it.

You give a small laugh in response. "Man, you are so damn excited! If you're not careful, people might think romantically... You know." She gives you a look as she squints her eyes at you, before ultimately just shrugging it off.

"I didn't even think you knew what that word meant." Her teasing voice coming back into the fold. "What, did a lot of your animal friends have relationship problems?" Thus her tone changes again, shifting slightly to sarcasm.

"Yeah, they did." You say back with truth in your voice. She stutters and trips in response to that, before catching herself.

With a laugh to her voice, she tries to respond back to what you just said. "Hahahaha! How the heck does that work?" Oh hey, you seem to be finally nearing that rollercoaster ride, a line of people are set up in front of the entrance, ready to go in themselves.

You don't exactly like having to wait for things, but it does give you some time to breathe as you talk to Honey. "Usually fights between multiple males as they one-up each other to gain the attention of a female. Doesn't always have to be a physical fight too, I've seen my share of dancing and singing tournaments between them." Thinking back on that makes you smile. "I can't count how many scratches and bites I have from having to stop those kinds of things from getting out of hand."

"Yowch." She cringes at that, shaking her own hands a bit at the thought. "And to think you lived like that all your life. I definitely couldn't."

"Yeah, absolutely." You tease back at her.

She crosses her arms at that and gives you a glare. "Watch it or else I'll punch your head in. I have my own pride to think about you know?" She says whilst trying to ignore what she just said before. The ride seems to ready for the two of you see that the line has shortened in the middle of your talk. You both get onto this long machine, like a car but extended. Along with it being attached metal bars underneath that it glides along in.

With you two strapped in, you try to get to another thing in your head. "Good to see that you are excited about the Freedom Fighters..." The ride starts climbing up, as you see the land below you get smaller and smaller.

"Of course I am! Why wouldn't I beeeeeEEEEEE!" And done you to go within a spiral! You both scream at the top of your lungs as you ride it out, surprising being more excitement for the both of you than terror. I mean, what could be more terrifying than what you both went through with Eggman? Through loops and spins you both enjoy the moment, raising your hands up high in elation, until it all comes to a stop lasting less than a few minutes, if even that. You two take your leave, exciting the rollercoaster and just walking alongside each other enjoying the views of this festival.

"That was great!" You pump your fist to the air at that.

"Yeah, hoooo~" She breathes in and out, taking a moment to calm down from that excitement you both just went through. "But yeah, what you said earlier about the Freedom Fighters... Of course I'm excited, it's great news! I almost thought you were gonna just get blank stares after you said that, but then everyone just exploded all at once!" She rubs her hands together at the memory of it.

You quirk an eye up. "Not enough to make you join though?"

She slouches as you point that out. "I don't want Eggman to dictate how my life will go, right? Sure, I'll go and kick ass when it's necessary, but I don't want to dedicate my future to having to fight him." She makes a solid enough point to that. It wasn't too long ago that you were like that when it came to everything outside of Green Hill Zone as well. "Though on you doing that... I didn't really take you as the kind of guy who'd want a position like that."

"In what way?" You question.

"You know-like-you're you. I would've taken you as being on a similar wavelength to me, sure being a hero is your whole thing, but I didn't think you'd bring the fight personally to Eggman. More like a person free to the wind and fighting him when you need to, rather than taking the reins yourself. You get me?" She struggles a bit to explain it.

"I think?" You shrug at that, unsure of it all as well. As you've said before, it really was just all on the spot. Enough so that you don't know exactly what you were expecting to happen in response to that. Though it does bring something to your mind that you have been meaning to talk about. "Say, Honey. Can you give me some advice to talk with friends? I... I think I screwed up with someone and I don't know what to do now." Honey says nothing as she listens in, encouraging you to go on. "I had a fight with Johnny, he, uh, really didn't agree with what I did up there."

"Why?"

You try to find the correct words to lay this out. "I'm endangering people by doing this, aren't I? Most Mobians aren't up to our level, and the chance of them joining because of my speech is-"

Honey puts a hand on your shoulder, momentarily stopping you from talking. "Sonic, that's stupid."

You eyes widen at that, searching for a rebuttal. "But-"

She huffs as her hands are placed to her sides, staring you down with an intensity. "We're already in danger from Eggman. You can't just go and keep beating Eggman with such a small group, he's going to escalate. If he really thinks you all can go on like this then he's just being naïve. Don't just let him walk over you, you should stand your ground! Just because he's a friend doesn't mean you need to agree with him on everything."

That-that is not the response you were expecting.

Does... Everyone have such strong convictions? Opinions that they don't even need to take a single moment to go through before they're already at an answer?

...sheesh, talking to people is just way too complicated, ain't it all?

You respond to Snow. "Yeah, I understand that. Knowing yourself is a pretty important thing, after all!" In a way, you felt the same when you made that deal with Mayor Tony. You being only concerned with the present led to you never going out of Green Hill after all, the future and the past is something that you want to take note of for your own betterment.

"W-Well yes! I am indeed correct on that!" With says that with a bit of fluster to her expression. It seems like she's the type to respond well with those that praise her 'eh?

But, moving on with the topic, you pop out an idea. "AN, AN... Uh, I'm not the best person to talk about time-like, I still need to understand what a year is-but maybe the A stands for after... Something?"

"After N..." She raises her wing to the side of her face, resting on it as she looks towards the moon above. "Can't say that's a bad theory. The year system coming along after some huge event... Yeah definitely not a bad theory at all, I'll keep that in mind Sonic."

Satisfied with her finding your theory to be fruitful, you continue. "Still, pretty wild that this story survived for so long. Maybe we can also find how people dealt with the ancient Eggbutts, haha!" What you wouldn't give for some like, cool super weapon to use to turn off all of Eggman's robots. Likely to never happen, but hey it's good to dream right? Hey, maybe there was even a guy like you back then fighting them off, though definitely not as good as you since they almost took over everything. Then again, aren't these islands you're on all that you know and Eggman almost took over it all? Dang it, you out-logic'd your own ego.

She looks off into the distance, as if hearing something you can't. "Jeez, is that drunk idiot still singing?" You don't exactly know what drunk means, but you can guess who she's referring to when saying idiot. "It looks like I'll need to be the one to fill you in on the details tomorrow, that fool will be in far too much of a hangover to do anything." She finishes that with a sigh.

Ah, that. "Snow, do you think you can fill me in on some of them right now?"

She looks pleasantly surprised at that. "Y-Yes! Well, given this is going to be made official, you'll be sent a sum of money periodically for the sole purpose of building this organization up, different options on where and how to set it up, as well as having to sign-" She suddenly stops, taking a moment to stare at you. "...Can you read?"

You blink at that, before shrugging. "Nope."

She takes even more time to think on that as she stays still. Calculating some things in her mind before getting back to you. "...A secretary will be needed then to help you out in that process. Do you have any friends that can help you to learn to read? Because otherwise we'll need to get you a specialised teacher for that."

-[X] You put a hand in your head. "Maybe it's a terrible idea...but I would like to talk with Johnny as soon as possible. The Freedom Fighters are our dream, and I betrayed his trust by doing that stunt. I...want for us to at least see eye to eye by the end of the night."

[X] "So friends have disagreements, huh?" you mutter. "Never had one of them until now. Disagreements, I mean."

[X] "Eeeh...a bit complicated," You were sure that Johnny, Porker and Honey knew how to read, but between the job of the latter and the disagreements of tonight with the first two, you didn't know if they would have time to teach you. "I suppose a teacher will suffice for me."
-[X] "So I will receive the rings needed to fund the organization...on what exactly can I spend them, besides the base? Do I have to pay other people? Can I use them if I need to whoop Eggman's ass in another island?"
-[X] "Well, I wish you a good night of parties, Mayor Snow. Hope that you and Mayor Tony keep enjoying the party!"

The sound of metal hitting metal rings out before the workshop as sweat from the heat around you goes down your face, wetting your brown fur. Your breath steady with the experience of decades of metalworking under you. More and more clangs are heard as you lift and swing, all hitting the same spot despite having only one eye to target it. Until finally, you finish, taking time to wipe the sweat away from yourself and the eyepatch that you wear.

"All in a day's work!"

Your name is Amadeus Prower, former cop now turned metalworking shop owner. And today you just finished another piece of handcrafted work for a customer. Business has been tough since yesterday, quite a few folks coming here to get weapons made ever since that speech last night. Though you suspect many of them to not turn up once that whole movement gets going. But hey, money is money, perhaps you could get a nice dinner going for yourself and your son tonight?

Speaking of your son... You feel a smile start to form, you could tell from how he ran out of the house this morning that he was real fired up. To be honest, you've noticed ever since Robotn-haha, it takes a bit to get used to the new name everyone has been calling villain. Yes, since Eggman got beaten by that Hero he's been up and about, going off on his own to that junkyard and making those inventions of his. Taking after you but to a scale you can't fathom every time he shows off something new to you, just where does that boy get that intelligence? You know it definitely wasn't you, and dear Rosemary up in heaven was never the brightest gal.

You'd almost say it's a mutation, but Miles would take offense to that, the boy's already far too sensitive about his tails. It sure did surprise you and your wife when he was born with two of them, let alone him being of yellow fur compared to both of your brown fur. Mutations sometimes are weird like that, they can be anything innocent from a simple colour change, to a whole extra limb popping up.

Maybe he looks up to that Sonic kid for their speed mutation? You can only guess, since he never wants to bring up the topic.

You hear the door to the shop open, and your son come through the door. Though just when you were about to greet him, you notice him slouched, his head down as he doesn't turn to look at you. He continues on as you feel yourself bite down on what you were going to say. Until he reaches the door to the hallway of your shop, not taking a single glance to you as he presumably goes to where his room would be.

A sigh is felt from within you, it's always at moments like this where you feel the most distanced from your son. You can only guess he must've gotten bullied again for his two tails, society isn't all that kind to what they would call 'freaks'. Breathing some air out of your nose, you walk up and flip the sign at the front of the shop, changing it to closed. You look towards the door to the hallway, walking to it and opening. Steam from the metalworking room hitting the hallway as soon as you go through, closing the door behind you and walking to where you know you need to be, in front of your son's room.

"Miles?" You call out to him, knocking on the door. No response. "I... Just want you to know that I'm proud of y-"

"I know! I'm fine!" Your heart aches at that response, knowing that it isn't true. You almost feel like a failure of a father at that, being unable to even console your own child. The worst part is that you know why he doesn't want to talk to you, he feels like a disappoint to his dad, born unworthy with features that would embarrass you. But as much as you try to tell him no, he never listens.

You take some moments of silence, letting your own thoughts gather on what to say as you adjust your eyepatch. "Miles... If you want, you can go to that Freedom Fighter thing."

More silence...

"I'm being serious, no matter what you want to do, I'll always support you. I saw how happy you were after that whole conference last night. I know that inside, you're weighing your options due to how dangerous it is, and that you might not be welcome there due to your tails. But you don't need to have that stay in your mind, just feel with your heart on where you'll be most happy." Other parents might lambast you what you just said, but you were quite the rebellious kid yourself way back when. Up until you joined the police force which was even more dangerous, your lost eye has a story to tell about that. What is danger but a spice of life? It reminds you of an old tale you've heard about. 'The Country Mouse and the City Mouse'. Whatever he chooses you'll stick by his side on that decision.

You hear the faintest of whispers, Miles now taking his time to speak. "I'll... Think about it. I don't think I'll go right away, but I'll take my time to think about it and see from a distance how it goes."

The smile on your face comes back. "That's my boy, far too smart for him own good! I'm gonna go now okay? But remember what I said earlier, no matter what happens, I'll always be proud of you. Doesn't matter if it takes weeks or even months, take as much time as you want with it."

You step away from the door having finished your talk with him, and start walking away to your own room to sleep this off. But, as you get to your door and open it, you hear something faint from your son's room.

"Thank you Dad."

And with that, you close the door behind you.

I feel like, when we see and talk to Miles, we've got to point out something cool his about tails.
Like, 'Oh, I remember the animals in Green Hill explaining about using their tails to stabilise themselves when running! If you've got two, you should be really steady on your feet!' or something.
He's a logical kid, telling him it 'doesn't matter' or that it's 'cool looking' isn't going to help, he needs a reassurance as to their benefits. Speaking from personal experience on that one.

[X] "The more you know about someone...the more you understand how little you understand about them..." you mumble.
-[X] "...maybe that's the part that bothers me the most. Johnny's opinions, the fact that Porker is your nickname: I should know that, I am supposed to know what my friends thinks it's good and bad. And yet I ignored that. This just makes me feel like a jerk!"

-[X] "...man, talking to others is more complicated than I thought."
-[X] "So, how many people do you think will come for your shop after tonight? Did I do a good job as your representative?"

Now that I think about it, we haven't interacted much with Johnny.
