It is the strange choice, but one we may profit from: We get bonus-points from the Unicorn, we get a rather down-to-earth empress and one who has little ambition to rise over her current station, making her less susceptable to try any shenanigans by her own account while being honored enough to fully commit to aiding us in restoring the Empire.

Tattoos probably aren't a great decision for the Imperial bride, anywho.

I'm still inclined to go with Hoshi, and not just for clan loyalty.

I mean, clan prejudice plays into my "fuck the Crane, the Lion, and the Isawa" opinions, but otherwise the Bayushi are just generally not people you want to fight.

Because if the Empress is being threatened, I highly doubt iaijutsu will come up. So all she needs to do is be the red, black, soon-to-be-more-red blur of death that a talented Bayushi bushi becomes. Also, the bushi of the Scorpion do pretty damn well for themselves in courtly affairs, so we definitely don't have to worry about her embarrassing herself.
 
Gah I can't quite decide between the Unicorn, the Scorpion or the Mantis.
Politically I ironically think that the Mantis would be the best choice as it would turn them into our allies and allow us some peace on that front.
The Scorpion would greatly strengthen our position on the court... IF we can gain her loyality which isn't guaranteed especially since I imagine our Mother wouldn't be happy at all with us taking a scorpion wife (remember that the Crab and the Scorpion have been at war for three years now... so there's no lost love there) On the other hand it would probably show our independence from our Mother and her clan...
The Unicorn seems like one of the safer options at least when it comes to personal loyality since her lack of ambition is pointed out and her apparent conpetence both in court and on the battlefield make her a fairly appealing choice.

At least we know she isn't a Kolat considering Shinjo didn't execute her.

The support of the Unicorn would be very valuable and she's throwing up very few alarming flags from what I see.

Remember that, as our dearest mother told us, we are also (demanded from) expected to take concubines. As our actual wife we would look for someone acceptable and unlikely to cause trouble. For the concubines we can look for a more cut-throaty and specialist demeanor.
 
I favor the Shinjo, but this is a friendly reminder that not picking the Yoritomo wiill put us at the edge of the cliff for the Mantis. I may not find those impertinent wastrels respectable, but I don't want them to become our enemies. Pirates could easily cripple us.

Yeah, so the next announcement should be for the Imperial Treasurer. That's a Mantis spot, and should help with it.
 
Shiba's pretty tempting but would require careful supervision. Crane and Dragon are probably no-goes. Bayushi is Bayushing pretty good, which might be a good sign, but her rivalry with the Crab would presumably anger several people including Mom. Shinjo Rena, combining high competence with lack of ambition, is undoubtedly a safe choice. (But safety is overrated. Three feet from death!)

Ikoma Mokoto has True Love on her character sheet. I'll bet money.

EDIT: You know what? Let's go for the some risk and reward.

We'll make them treasurer and perhaps make the Crane Imperial Advisor, ought to balance it all out and if they rebel then they are doing so alone and without allies.

There's a difference between pirates raiding the Phoenix in limited warfare and treason against the Emperor.

I feel compelled to remind you that in Rokugan one hour is equal to about two of ours. That's how they only have 12 hours in a day. So when Hisao says he's been up eight hours, that's about sixteen hours to us. So yes he's a little lazy, but first day on the job what can you do?

I am going to have to admit a meta thing here. While at some point concubines may come up, at present Hisao doesn't want any, largely because I don't really want to write about concubines, this isn't Questionable Questing. If in the event Hisao somehow manages to have now children for a few years I'll revisit that, but at present the concubine thing should not be a consideration.

Now for something a little more broad. None of these characters comes without some form of interpersonal conflict and all of them are more or less fleshed out with their own hopes and dreams. They are not necessarily the same as yours. So keep that in mind. Now I am out of town most of the day so no updates today beyond this.
