Bound to Earth: A CK2 Earthbound Quest in an 8-bit Dystopia

Oh! Just to clarify, I might have described this improperly, but as far as CD is aware the Starman Jager appears to have a conventional energy weapon of some kind. Like a laser or a particle ray they fire from their visor.

It doesn't appear to be PSI based in nature, but Buzz Buzz's shield works on PSI and energy based attacks.

PSI Beam would...well, I'm not going to spoil anything~
Look out! He's gonna use PK Gun α!

Ah - the flavoring and flow of the turn didn't make that clear, so I indeed thought it was PSI Beam. As you said, though; the same principles apply regardless - shield!

Makes sense given a lot of enemy abilities in the games are just PSI abilities in effect, but with different text.

See: "[] Used a Crashing Boom Bang attack!" (uses PK Thunder)

I have a request for @Crosswire
Would it be possible/reasonable for you to threadmark the posts you made where you give feedback and EXP to Omakes? I like going back to read them or look at the art sometimes, and I notice they aren't threadmarked

Absolutely! I probably should have done that sooner!

[X] Plan: our first battle try not to die
-[X] Attack the Lampposts in Melee (1 Action): They're metal poles brought to life and you're fighting them with a bat. Thankfully you've fucked up a couple lampposts in the past. The only difference now is that they're fighting back. Smashing them up won't be easy, but if you can focus down the alien's goons you could turn this could turn into a 2 v 1.
-[X] Find Weakness (1 Action): It's dark as hell and your heart is racing. They've got you in a bad position, but if you pay attention maybe you can see something you can exploit. Finding a weakness will make certain subsequence actions against a particular enemy or enemies easier in the following turns.
-[X] Renew PSI Shield Σ (2 Actions): The Starman's laser is no joke and you know for a fact they have offensive PSI at their disposal. By renewing your shield, you can try to ensure their PSI and energy based attacks don't touch you or C.D. However it'll mean going entirely on the defensive for now.

Time to fuck up some more lamps

Hopefully no one finds out it was CD, would be a pain to lose all of our hard earned (and stolen) cash because of a fine over property damage since no one is going to believe the damn lamps started it.

I can't believe that Giygas is actually infamous lamp aficionado Lord Do'Nator from The Runaway Guys collesseum charity streams.

On an empty side street of the city, two martial artists were duking it out in a private contest of strength. Though it was a street fight, there was no intent to break or kill either combatant. It was the respectful meeting of two warriors, nothing more and nothing less.

"Tatsumaki Senpukyaku!" Ryu performed a vicious midair spinning kick that hurtled toward his opponent's head

"Lookpanjama Kick!"

His opponent jumped and began their own spin, narrowly avoiding the Tatsumaki as they rose over his leg. Before Ryu could attempt a block, a leg crashed into his side and knocked him off course.

Ryu managed to land on his feet, and before his opponent could hit the ground he launched a counterattack. "Shoryuken!"

The attack landed perfectly, an uppercut to the jaw that sent his opponent sailing through the air before crashing to the ground, right on their back.

Despite the heavy hit, he dragged himself to his feet with a gleam in his eye. He immediately ran to face Ryu again, and the instant he got close he used a familiar technique

"Shoryuken!"

It was very competently executed, the rising spinning uppercut that Ryu considered a foundation of his fighting style now being performed by the man in front of him.

But it was one of Ryu's moves, of course, he knew how it worked, and how to counter it.

The fist barely scraped the side of Ryu's head, nearly hitting the edge of his headband as it sailed toward the sky. His opponent was midair and completely helpless as Ryu landed a heavy kick to his chest, knocking them back again.

This time his opponent wavered, just a little bit as he stood up. Ryu took in his appearance, the red headband, the dark purple hoodie with the sleeves torn off, the khaki pants, and the utilitarian black boots he wore. Finally, he recognized his opponent.

"You are Masaru Takahara aren't you?" Ryu asked, slightly relaxing his fighting stance.

"Yeah. You didn't know that when you accepted my challenge?" Masaru seemed puzzled

"I did not know your name, but I did know you were a worthy challenger. From the way you act, I knew you were a fighter, and you were confident enough to challenge me directly. As for how I identified you, Masaru Takahara is infamous for learning techniques from his opponents."

"Fair enough." Masaru chuckled "That's not going to be a problem, is it? I know some people get very angry about stolen techniques"

"No. You've done well enough to earn the techniques you've gained so far. But I'm curious, how you will deal with this one…" Ryu drew back, drawing energy between his hands as he pushed them together and cupped the energy into the shape of a small sphere.

"Hadouken!"

Masaru gaped as the blue fireball streaked towards him, desperately crossing his arms to try and resist the blow.

The impact hurled him back, carrying him for several feet before he crashed flat on his back. He groaned and rolled onto his side. Before he could get up, Ryu reached a hand out to help him up.

After hesitating for a moment, Masaru took it and Ryu pulled him to his feet.

"You did well. I can clearly see your experience and flexibility in battle." Ryu complemented.

"Thank you." Masaru wandered over to his backpack and pulled out two bottles of water, one for him and one for Ryu. "Water?" Ryu wordlessly thanked him and took the water. For a moment they just stood together, drinking and thinking about their fight

"You knew that you couldn't defeat me." Ryu turned to look Masaru in the eye. "So why did you challenge me?"

Masaru froze, bottle halfway to his lips before he lowered it. "The truth is… I wanted to lose. And if you're willing I need some advice. In private if that's possible" A complex series of emotions danced through the young fighter's eyes. Worry, fear, a certain apprehension that threatened to end his career.

Ryu silently considered the young fighter for a moment before turning around to walk away. "Follow me."

Ryu's apartment was small and nearly utilitarian in design. It had a Japanese-style bed, a table with two chairs, and a kitchen for cooking. It technically had a few more pieces of furniture in it, but those were the only ones that seemed well-used

Masaru sat down while Ryu quickly flitted about the kitchen to prepare soba. As Ryu started the water he finally began the conversation. "Tell me what troubles you. Perhaps I can assist."

"When I began my journey all those years ago, I fought my way to 6 different martial arts masters." Masaru started listing them off. "Namkiat: master of Muay Thai, Great Aja: master of Lucha Libre, Tula Han: master of Sambo, Seishi Moribe: master of Koppo, Max Morgan: master of Professional Wrestling, and Jackie Laukea: master of Sumo."

"I learned all of my advanced techniques by fighting those 6 masters. But… they're all dead now." Masaru explained quietly, eyes angled to the floor.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Ryu bowed his head. Though the wound on his heart from his own master's death had long scarred over, it still hurt to hear about the death of others.

"I have a… stalker I guess you would say," Masaru explained glumly. "His name is Odie O'bright, and he uses me as a measuring stick. Anyone that I defeat, he thinks that he can also defeat them. After I defeat a martial arts master, he'll challenge them a short time later but-"

"The battle is to the death." Ryu finished.

"Yeah."

The two fighters fell silent as Ryu finished the soba noodles and served up two steaming bowls. Ryu's mind was wandering to some of the evil martial artists he had seen in the past. Those who fought with intent to kill, dominate, and overcome.

"I'm not sure what to do," Masaru admitted. "It feels like if I keep moving forward and fighting masters, I'll be marking them for death. But if I just sit here I'll be wasting my chance to train and grow. If I stop will he give up? Or would he just come and kill me instead?"

"Hmm…" Ryu knew nothing about the specific person Masaru spoke of. But he knew quite a bit about how warriors thought. "A warrior of his ambition would most likely not back down from such a minor setback. Perhaps he would discard you and pick another warrior to follow, or perhaps he would begin picking his own battles."

"You will need to deal with him at some point. What do you plan to do to him?" Ryu started loudly slurping up soba noodles. They were best when they had cooled slightly, but were not yet cold.

"I want to fight him obviously." Masaru cautiously slurped his own soba. He was clearly only moderately adept with chopsticks.

"He is likely not the kind of man who would give up just from being beaten," Ryu warned. "How far are you willing to go, if it means preventing him from killing anyone else?"

"I…" Masaru closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and gathering his resolve before he stared back at Ryu. "I don't want to do this. But if he attacks me with intent to kill, I will kill him"

Ryu considered Masaru's gaze carefully. There was no bloodlust, or desire to kill in his eyes. But his declaration was clear and strong. He would never kill because he wanted to, or because it was easy. But if he had to kill, he would do it.

By Ryu's reckoning, Masaru possessed the heart of a warrior and a strong will. But while his life was defined by battle, it was not defined by one martial art or creed. That flexibility would normally serve him well but…

Masaru could never learn the true power of Ansatsuken without dedicating himself to it. Even if he tapped into its power, it would put him at risk of the Satsui no Hadō. He may be able to master it and curb the murderous intent, or he may not.

Ryu wasn't willing to take that risk. Even he struggled with the Satsui no Hadō

"I cannot teach you anything. However!" Ryu raised his hand to forestall Masaru's response. "I am willing to train alongside you, and I know many others who would be willing to do the same."

"That's fine. Training alongside you is more than enough. Thank you so much!" Masaru bowed his head and clapped his hands together in gratitude.

"It is always an honor to help another warrior walk the path. Masaru, allow me to give you some important advice"

"Hmm?"

"Eat the Soba before it gets cold."

"Sorry!"
Continuing my quest to do something with all of the Live a Live chapters. I went through a couple of ideas for Masaru. Like joining the Punch-Out boxing circuit, or his battle with Odie O'Bright. But this one made the most sense to me. Odie is very much a Street Fighter-style villain, and I think it would make perfect sense to pair Masaru's journey with the Street Fighter cast.

Also, I definitely didn't have to check the wiki over and over again for the spelling of the Street Fighter techniques. I got them right first try

So, I don't want to be "that guy" or anything, but is this still going? It's fine if it's not, or if it's just taking awhile, I just want to know so I can stop checking twice a day for new content. Apologies if I'm being a nuisance

It's just taking a while! Some life-stuff happened that I've been sorting out. Thankfully I got it all done. So we should be back to your regularly scheduled programming shortly~

Vandalize New Signs

Break Into the Mayor's House

"I'm expecting a good explanation for this Captain, for this…this…FARCE!"

It takes all of your discipline to pull away the phone from your ear as the man on the other side exploded in rage, "I understand you're rightfully upset, Mayor-"

"Upset doesn't even cover it!" annnd he cut you off to go on another tangent, "When I greenlit this movement of yours, I didn't know what to expect, but I sure didn't expect obscene and vulgar signs being erected all across my town and one of my properties wrecked! Do you have any idea how this makes us look? What were you even thinking!?"

"This isn't our doing, Mayor." you clarify as you finally get a word in. You continue before he gets another chance to rant, "It appears someone had vandalized and debased every sign we've put up, we're currently looking into it and taking everything down that's been tampered with. We're also looking into the break-in of your house as well, it will take some time to do so, but trust me that we're ontop of this."

"..." Mayor Pirkle is silent for a moment before letting out a sigh, "...Alright, good. Damnable youth truly have nothing better to do these days it seems. I'll expect all of those signs and an update on the investigation within three days Captain, don't disappoint me."

The truth is he would have already dismissed you if he could, but he also knows you realistically have more leverage in this town than he does. A part of your mind suggests 'putting him in his place' and fully flex the OPF's power, maybe even begin recalling units from elsewhere in the Quarter to really bring order to this town. All of these thoughts are ruthlessly squashed, the law was in place for a reason and if you broke that just because you were tired of your superior, that made you little better than an Outlander warlord who rules on virtue on carrying the biggest stick around.

"Of course, Mayor."

With that, he hung up. Putting the phone aside, you slumped in your office chair and began to rub your temples.

"Christ."

You expected some resistance to the Fresh Breeze Movement eventually, the youth of this town were too unruly for there not to be. But this soon?

It all began this morning at the station, one call being displeased about the 'vulgar' signs being put up. One call became several, and then a dozen.

You sent out some of your officers to investigate and what they found made your grind your teeth: The signs were vulgar alright, but you got to see how people were thinking they were genuine messages by the Movement: Whoever tampered with them did so in a way that you couldn't even tell they were messed with unless you walked up close to them. They even got the colors right!

And what's more is that every sign was supposedly like this, all across town! How!?

And that's not even getting started on how someone broke into one of the Mayor's properties last night and wrecked the damn place…

You begin to feel another headache coming on. With some hesitation, you open a drawer in your desk and pull out a shot glass and a bottle of aged whisky. You weren't supposed to drink on the job and normally you don't.

But damn did it sure as hell felt needed right now.

You didn't have anything else to take your Power Pellets with anyhow, and you're beginning to feel the ghosts come back…

Hastily pouring a shot and popping open your med bottle from your pocket, you take two Pellets and down the shot quickly and immediately you begin to feel the effects. The ghosts of old Earth are pushed away and you feel yourself more at ease.

This is a big setback, but it's also just a setback, you can push through like you always have and you sure as hell will.

But first…you need to find the bastard responsible for making the OPF look like fools.

An unknown group had vandalized all of the signs in Onnet supporting the Fresh Breeze Moment, causing it to lose some legitimacy in the eyes of the populace!
At the same time, someone had wrecked one of the Mayor's private homes, angering him greatly!

Well shit, we're already facing problems.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the Sharks were behind this, but that doesn't seem the case with Franky calling them all back to the Arcade, probably to make Frankystein. Who does that leave though?

Maybe, but this isn't how he usually does things, and weren't we already thinking he's got Pirkle under his control anyways? If that's true, it would be counterproductive to oppose the Movement, let alone sacking his puppet's house.

Issue is, I'm drawing a blank on who else it could be. There was that one pink haired girl we heard about in another turn, but I doubt they would be capable of doing this on their own.

Sleep Tight said:
Watch as you jinx us with that comment, Seal.

What about any of the other groups in the Quarter?

UnknownCertainty said:
I don't think any of them would have the reach to do something like this, and most wouldn't want to anyways outside Everdred.

From what we've learned though, it does seem like we're pretty close to River City with how many people we've seen that hailed from there and that place definitely has its issues with youth gangs like we do, just times ten. Could this be the beginning of one of them moving into the Quarter soon?

Dragonkx said:
I think we're all overreacting really, we were bound to run in some opposition sooner or later ever since we locked down the whole town.

…Could someone remind me why we did that again?

Doghode said:
I think there were a few reasons; people were afraid of this being an agent for Giygas and didn't want them to get away mainly, but some people were afraid that an alien in the Quarter would attract the attention of the Big Three regardless, which is sensible really.

I do agree with Dragon though, we should just stay the course unless something like this happens again. The sooner we can shake off Strong's delusion on Pirkle being a good mayor, the faster we can have free reign to do what we have to save the Quarter.

Also, I wouldn't discount the idea that the unknown girl with pink hair did this, especially if she's another version of Kumatora as some people have theorized.

ColdStream said:
Theories aside, I will eat my shoe if an OC is the one causing all of this trouble. Next you'll tell me that she replaced Ness!

Hello, me again with another Omake, this time I decided to experiment and try my hand at making a proper Negaverse omake set after last turn, set in the eyes of a frustrated Captain Strong after CD's last turn actions against them.

I think I'm alright with the final, though if I ever do this again I may just ask for what people think there alternate selves would say instead of filling it in myself, haha! Hope you enjoyed!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hello everyone!

Thank you for your patience. The delay in the Quest was very much needed on my end since I needed to sort some life stuff out.

I'm feeling a lot better now and in a much better place, and state of mind, to work on this.

I am sure many of you were unhappy with the delay, or concerned that the Quest would come to an abrupt end, so I hope this assuages your fears.

I just want to let you all know that I appreciate everyone's participation.

My goal isn't to become a 'big' or super popular Quest.

I simply want to craft an experience that I'm proud of and give a narrative ride to the people who are willing to be invested in what I write.

And to see it to completion.

Thank you, and Merry Crimbo & Reverse Free Pizza Day!

I hope you're all having/had a wonderful Christmas, and I hope this upcoming post is a present for you all.

@catxfighter_3_1 I'm having a great Christmas, I hope you are too <3

OMAKE AWARDS

MECHANICAL HEART

[ @griffinlw is awarded +300 EXP]
This was a delightful Omake. You nailed the characterization of everyone, Darthe and Cube especially. The robot's inner ruminations and the description of the METROID were were particularly good. I didn't think the Distant Future Scenario could get creepier, but an Omega Metroid certainly made it that way. Very fitting to couple a 'rogue' A.I and a Metroid here, excellent use of the combined setting of 8-Bit Dystopia. My favorite past has to be the end though.
You disliked the idea of violence, one of the things Kato had programmed into you from the very start. But for this monster, this Megalomaniac. You would make an exception.
You were going to make it regret coming here.
Fantastic work on capturing the atmosphere, tone, and source material. A perfect pick for Halloween, Griffin.

A THANKLESS JOB

[ @Brightflame is awarded +200 EXP]
This was a very fun Omake. You did an excellent job on formatting it like a proper 'report' of sorts that I'd expect to read in an early X-COM game. The fun implications of X-COM's activities and the other crash sights led me to think of various fun possibilities. Commander Keen's ruminations at the end were particularly satisfying. I could feel a genuine weight in the hesitation and responsibility they had, just from their inner thoughts and the small bits of dialogue they spoke aloud. Excellent work, Bright~

Captain Strong Negaverse Quest

[ @Brightflame is awarded +400 EXP]
This was a really fun Omake to read. The setup of the Quest taking the point of view of a currently antagonistic character, and putting the player's actions in a new light, is honestly pretty clever. I felt you characterized Captain Strong (And the Mayor) very well. The treat of the whole thing was the fake player comments that you wrote which felt both very grounded and pretty amusing. I was smiling the whole time reading this. Thank you for the wonderful work, and Merry Christmas <3

COMBAT 1 - ROUND 1

You've been in plenty of street brawls before.

This isn't even the first time someone's tried to kill you.

But this?

This is nothing like that.

The intensity, the raw power on display, shakes something inside you.

Adrenaline fills your veins.

Your heart beats out of your chest.

Time seems to slow around you as you process what you need to do.

Strike and run.

Your instincts speak to you.

Even if the scale is different, your experience in street fights still holds true.

The enemy has you exactly where they want you.

In the open.

Surrounded.

Forced to face down a power laden psycho head on.

They have the advantage in strength and terrain, but a good swing of your bat and a dead sprint in the right direction can change that.

This is your town.

It's time to show them that.

[C.D] - 1 AP Action: Attack the Lampposts in Melee

Your Result: 82 + 16 = 98
vs

[ENEMY REACTION: Animated Lamp(s)] COUNTERATTACK
Enemy Opposition Result: MUCH LOWER

Bat in hand you turn and charge down the street.

Animated Lamp Posts bend and warp as they try to twist themselves into your path.

Their long arms and narrow slender digits outstretch towards you. Creaking, bending, and popping as the animated serrated steel attempts to close around any part of you they can grab.

For all their size and reach however, they're slow.

All you need to do is pretend you're trying to run to get two of them to overextend.

Stretching their metal arms out as long and as thin as they can get…

Before you all but pivot on the spot and lunge towards them.

Bat pulled back, you swing as hard and as fast you can towards the thinnest, most strained part of the Animated Lamp's arm.

"CLONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!"

The noise of your baseball bat smashing full force into the metal sends out a reverberating pitch that makes your teeth sting. A powerful ache ripples up through your palms and into your shoulders from the sheer force of the impact
But your baseball bat doesn't bounce backwards.
Metal caves inwards and the right arm of one of the Animated Lamps snaps clean off at what would be the 'shoulder'. Crashing to the asphalt with the satisfaction of a knocked down street sign.

Though it towers above you the Animated Lamp recoils backwards, it's towering form snaking back in forth in confusion at what had happened.

As if retaliating, or waiting for the right moment to strike, one of the other Animated Lamps slashes at you from behind as you jump back from your attack.

The Animated Lamp's 'hand' might as well be a farming combine. Just a single proper hit from the bladed fingers would easily slash through your jacket and open up your back.

Yet the force behind the Lamp's attack, the whistling of it's serrated metal digits, gives away it's attack at the last second.

You leap out of the way, the Lamp's hand piercing into the asphalt with a deafening crack.

In that moment, riding purely off the adrenaline high, you swing again.

"CLONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!"
You swear your fingers are going to break from your hands as the force of the impact races through your limbs.

Your bat strikes at the point where the Animated Lamp's arm splits into a 'hand'. breaking it off at the equivilent of a wrist with a satisfying buckling of metal.

Another lamp recoils backwards, it's hand remaining stuck in the asphalt.

"If you knew ANYTHING about me, you'd know I'm very good at property damage!" You holler in a mix of anger and satisfaction into the night air.

[Buzz Buzz] - 2 AP Action: Renew PSI Shield Σ

Your Result: 15+35 = 50

Buzz Buzz's swings struck at the air with a fevered pitch.

His small, dark eyes remained fixated on the Starman.

They didn't need to look to see CD throwing themselves at the animated constructs. Just the sound of their shouts and breaking steel made it clear they were holding them off.

Buzz Buzz's concentration pooled.

He drew deep, focusing on protection.

Walls, barriers, unbreakable mountains, a fortress of spirit and soul.

The transparent pink barrier brightened as it's faint hexagonal pattern tightened. It's light brightening in the darkness of the shadow eaten street.

Yet, through the bright barrier, Buzz Buzz could see the Jäger.

Tendril like hands on it's hips, the silvery black alien stood tall and unimpressed. Faint reflections of Buzz Buzz and even CD were barely visible in the glare of it's visor.

Staring the foe down, Buzz Buzz couldn't stop his thoughts from abruptly drifting.

Instead of focusing on the barrier, his mind gave briefly into fear.

This was too soon.

For him, and especially CD.

And that was exactly what Giygas wanted...

[ENEMY ACTION: STARMAN Jäger] LAMP COUNTERATTACK
Enemy Result: ???

"PSI FIRE Σ!"

For a second the world is bathed in a flash of red.

Even with the protection of Buzz Buzz's shield, you can feel the air around you abruptly rise in temperature. Flames erupt around you, appearing out of the air like ghosts.

Yet the pink haze of the PSI shield protects you, keeping the blistering heat from hurting you.

...

But the barrier does nothing to protect the terrain around you.

The asphalt road in front of you, your chosen route of escape, twists and warps with unimaginable heat.

Circular patches along a long stretch of road bubbled and roiled.

Solid asphalt reduced to what looked like tar pits in an instant.

"The Starman wasn't trying to overwhelm Buzz Buzz's shield with that attack-"

A coherent thought erupts from your mind as the red fades from your vision.

"They're trying to use PSI Fire to try and trap us!"

You momentarily watch as the Lamps stretch and warp their bodies. Taking unnatural steps with their strange, broken metal gaits. Unaffected by the blistering heat, or the sticky melted asphalt, they outstretch their limbs to bar any forward movement.

"ONLY ANIMALS ARE AFRAID OF FIRE."
You hear the cold, yet almost mocking synesthetic voice of the Starman peel out from the darkness.

It's tone alone making it clear it had thought this through.

That it was completely confident there was nowhere for you to run.

...

[C.D] - 1 AP Action: Try to Reposition to a more favorable location

Your Result: 54 +15 = 69
[SPORTY TRAIT ACTIVE]

You ran forward, down the street.

Towards the Animated Lamp Posts and the pools of molten asphalt.

"WHAT?!?"

The Starman Jäger's voice boomed out in a mix of confusion and anger, but you didn't properly hear or process it.

Your eyes were fixed to the ground as you ran. Picking out the thin lines of solid asphalt between the molten pits.

Sliding your bat into the 'sheath' along your back your arms swing like pendulums, picking up speed as you deliberately run directly at the Animated Lamps.

Instead of trying to simply run past the, you run up the lamps.

Running up the posts as far as your sneakers and your momentum will take you before lunging at their extended limps.

Hands scraping against the bent, cold metal as if they were the bars of a jungle gym. Swinging and bounding of them to the next lamp, and the next, and the next.

Until you swing from the last one onto fully solid asphalt and begin to properly take down the street.

"Come on!" You shout, with Buzz Buzz flying after you, blocking further blasts of PSI Fire as he flies up to you.

He says nothing, but there's a clear sense of relief to the alien 'bug' as he flies up next to you. The sounds of energy blasts and metallic trundling growing distant behind you as your athleticism carries you forward.

The world seems to blur past you until you find yourself running through pushes and pushing aside leaf laden tree branches.

You press your back into a tree, taking a moment to catch your breath as Buzz Buzz flies in front of you. His small eyes darted about, ready for anything.

Adrenaline pulses through your veins and you feel your senses heightened to an almost sickening degree.

Just a glance around tells you that you're now in a part of the forest to the North-East of East of Onnet, just on the edge of town.

It's dark, so dark that you almost can't see save for the moonlight and the distant glows in the distance. Your sightline of the town itself is obscured, but any sightlines on you are equally non existent for now.

But your enemies are hot on your heels.

You can't see them with the brush and trees, but you can hear them.

When the lamp posts aren't standing still, they're far from stealthy and you can only assume their creaking and metallic groaning is masking the Starman's own heavy movements.

They'll be on you in seconds, but you're in a far better position.

You have a second to consider your next actions.

-ROUND 2 CHOICES-
PLAYER PARTY

C.D [2 AP]

[] Ambush the Starman JägeR! (1 Action): The darkness and the cover provided by the forest will let you attack the Starman JR with greater ease. The son of a bitch looks nasty, but after hitting the Lamp Posts you're confident you can at least get in a single good hit if you play your cards right.

[] Ambush the Lampposts! (1 Action): The darkness and the cover provided by the forest will let you get the drop on the the Animated Lampposts. You've already taken a chunk out of two of them. Even if your palms sting like a son of a bitch and your shoulders ache, you have a feeling you can wreck their shit and possibly take one or two out with the 'injuries' they currently have.

[] Climb a Tree and Get the Drop on Them! (1 Action): It's more about elevation then stealth, but you doubt the aliens look up anymore then a normal person does. Dropping in from above would increase your chances of success, be it in attack or otherwise. And your mom said you wouldn't be climbing trees when you got older. This action is effected by the Sporty Trait!

[] Antagonize the Starman into Attacking their Allies (1 Action): It's dark. They can't see you, but you can hear them. Sneaking about and shit-talking the chromed lunatic could prompt him to blindly attack where he thinks you are. And if you position yourself right, he could end up smoking his own allies. Or, if you position yourself badly, just straight up hitting you.

[] Find Weakness (1 Action): It's dark as hell and you actually have oxygen to your brain again. You've seen a bit of what the enemy can do. Taking a moment to think could let you find a weakness to exploit. Finding a weakness will make certain subsequence actions against a particular enemy or enemies easier in the following turns.

[] Find Something of Use (1 Action): The forest isn't exactly known for it's bustling economy, but you know from experience there's lots of weird things in the woods. Scrounging around in the dark might seem desperate, but it could turn up something useful to use in the fight.

[] Use Lifeup α to fight aggressively (1 Action): You and Buzz Buzz narrowly escaped injury. If the enemy is coming to you, then throwing yourself at them as soon as they show up and fighting aggressively could give you an advantage. Using your healing ability to hurl yourself into the fray will let you focus more on laying into the aliens then avoiding injury. Using this action successfully in combination with an offensive action may increase its effectiveness or mitigate failure.

[] Try to Lay a Trap!(2 Actions): You're working with mere moments, but this is a forest. If you're quick you could potentially drop a tree or use what's around you to throw up a trap. They're expecting you to attack them, not the environment, and with the poor light it'll be that much harder to see what you have in store for them. It'll require all your effort, and it'll be all or nothing in it's benefits, but it could be done.

[] Breath Deep, Reach Deep…and Attack!(2 Actions): You're not being attacked. You have a moment to think, to breathe, to feel something inside you. You're in a forest again. Like when Buzz Buzz taught you about PSI. He said you were on the cusp of a powerful technique. One that seems very dangerous and hardly anything like healing. If you concentrate, reach deep, maybe you can unleash that power onto all of the approaching enemies right when they burst through the treeline. If something like that's supposed to rise in dire moments, well then this situation sure as fuck fits the bill.

[] Attempt to Flee (2 Actions): You're in a better position to escape the enemies entirely, maybe even with your allies. Hopefully they can't follow you. Note: This action may have negative consequences.

Buzz-Buzz [2 AP]

[] Renew PSI Shield Σ (2 Actions): You barely held off the Starman's PSI attack earlier, but your shield is still up...for the moment. You have no doubt the shield will break if not renewed, but the Starman JR has made it clear they're more then capable of working around your defenses. Bolstering your shield again would at least prevent the Starman Jr from being able to easily unleash their full might on you. But you'll be on the defensive again.

[] Ambush the Starman JägeR! (1 Action): The darkness and the cover provided by the forest will let you get the drop on the Starman JR. Even if they're being careful, the fact they won't have immediate eyes on you will allow you to close the distance once they approach and strike them hard and fast.

[] Ambush the Lampposts! (1 Action): The darkness and the cover provided by the forest will let you get the drop on the the Animated Lampposts. They're sturdy, but they're not smart, and with the damage already dealt to two of them by CD there's a chance you could take one or two out, or further cripple their offensive abilities.

[] Trick the Starman JägeR (1 Action): You're dealing with a veteran. They're not stupid, but they are clearly holding a grudge. Whatever's left of their organic mind, or their sense of self, is clearly clashing with their more level-headed decision making. If you fly up high, and antagonist the Starman with the right words, there's a chance you can get them to waste a PSI attack hitting somewhere utterly divorced from where you and C.D are.

[] Feign Surrender to gain an advantage (1 Action): It's dishonest, but it's clear the Starman wants to take you in alive for now. By feigning weakness, you can open the Starman and his allies open for attack for just a moment. Afterwards however, there will be no chance for mercy from the enraged Starman…

[] Try to Discern Weakness (1 Action): Giygas's forces aren't perfect. Your experience may guide you to a weakness to exploit, as long as you focus…Finding a weakness will make certain subsequence actions against a particular enemy or enemies easier in the following turns.

ENEMIES

Starman JägeR

- Unharmed

Animated Lamp Post x4

- One post has lost an arm and another a hand, hindering their offensive abilities.

Hm...

The Jager seems powerful as fuck if the text is anything to go by. And a forest seems a perfect place for him to set a infernal trap with Fire. I say that we attempt to set a trap, and let Buzz Buzz keep powering the shield.

[] BUZZ BUZZ: Renew PSI Shield Σ

We're on more favorable terrain, let's take that surprise advantage and use it! And, of course, keep up the shield.

It's a decent idea, but it would take up both of our actions, and, if it fails, our turn is wasted.

OK here's what my thought process we should do first we should climb a tree to hide and get a vantage point and second for second action point is to try to antagonize Starman Jager to attack his minions
For buzz buzz actions renew the shield

@Crosswire would we get a bonus from hiding in the tree to taunt the Jager into attacking his allies
