Blue Steel 2199: Arpeggio of Blue Steel/Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Crossover

"Enemy has launched! Sensors show forty closing fast!"

"Calmly Leftenant. We have more than enough interceptors for forty enemy planes."

"No sir... Forty... Battleships."

"Well... In that case, let's spool up the warp, shall we?"

"Enemy Carrier sighted! It's massive!"

"Damn, that's going to be a lot of fighter craft. Don't worry, our ships are mostly impervious to Terron fighters. Just close in with our cruisers and destroyers then we'll-"

"Sir, they're launching ships!"

"As I said, don't worry, we'll-"

"No, sir, not fighters, it's launching Capital Ships!"

"......... Plot Getscham Jump, get us out of here."

Mirror Ring System!

"Whatever sort of ship that has joined the rebels, it is no match for this Death Star! Fire and destroy it!

"Now that is done..."

"Excuse me your highness... It's still there."

It's a good thing the Magna Flame Gun can fire multiple times in rapid sucession and far away enough from the retaliatory shockwave right?

"Detecting energy build up in enemy ship!"

"Shields to full!"

"Shields at maximum! They're firing-"

4 dimensional attack rips Death Star in two.

Frankly the only weapon more devastating I know short of 'God' weapons is the Dimensional Cannon from the first Tenchi movie.

"We'll use the Dimensional Cannon."

"What do you mean the 'dimensional cannon'...? You wouldn't use it on a planet! It's for taking out a small galaxy!"

Install a Spinal Doctor Who Demat gun that removes people from time.

By the time they get to Iscandar...

"Yes, we're finally here! Time to get the Cosmo Reverser!"

"Why do we need the Cosmo Reverser?"

"Because the Earth is a wasteland."

"Yeah, I know that, but why?"

".... Yeah, I don't know. Weird."

From Gunbuster, Buster Machine No.3 was Jupiter compressed into a black hole and used to turn the Milky Way into the Milky Donut, as in it carved a hole in the center of the Milky Way. Depending on your definition of "small galaxy" that could be more powerful.

EDIT: This is what the Milky Way looked afterwards:

Well I was going to reference Lensman (dirigible planets, made of antimatter, propelled faster than light for ramming attacks) but I have to admit that doesn't quite match GunBuster.

Funny thing is, considering how much sheer empty volume a ship normally has, a Fog Battleship could likely reduce its volume to something comparatively tiny when 'at rest' without sacrificing any of its mass or functionality. For example, a steel ship with a displacement of 45000 metric tons (say, USS Iowa) could be squeezed down to the equivalent volume of 78 40ft standard shipping containers (+1x 20ft one) made of solid steel.

Takao, at 9850 tons (15250 tons at full load) of displacement, would take a measly 17 40ft container-equivalent of volume in 'compact' mode (or 26½ if she's closer to her 'full load' weight).

So yes, it's likely that the SBY could carry a few full-blown Fog destroyers or cruisers in 'compact' mode, ready to eject and expand at a moment's notice. :D

All of the empty space is probably taken up by missiles and all the crazy transforming hidden weapons.

I honestly think Fog ships should weigh at least half again as much as their fully-laden historical counterparts.

Which would mean they'd need to use crazy gravity tech 24/7 to not sink or have such a high displacement that they barely have anything sticking out of the water.

A sizeable proportion of the displacement of a fully-laden ship is in fuel, which the Fog wouldn't actually need. For example, the Iowa, with full tanks, has ~8300 tons of fuel oil. That's included in the 45000 tons displacement. The Takao-class, at full load, has ~2600 tons of fuel onboard.

edit: addendum.
The historical Yamato has an average displacement of 71100 tons, 73000 at full load, with 6300 tons of fuel oil.

There is a lot of empty space in Fog ships. Even though their equipment folds up to fit inside, there's still lots of space inside.
Take for example, Iona has a bunch of space between the SGC emitter and the prow, even when folded.

And them using gravity manipulation to control their buoyancy sounds completely reasonable given what we've seen so far. Though I am loath to reference it for anything, the anime literally said "graviton ballast".

I still think they are going to weigh much more than historical ships. The sheer volume of missiles and torpedoes a single ship carries demands it. This would be offset some by the lack of any fuel, but we're still talking about things like Takao and Atago carrying 128 corrosive missiles that are all the size of cars. That isn't even counting how many conventional explosive weapons they have.

Bearing in mind the way those missile tubes seem to fold up, combined with what I seem to remember about "reloads" and the way that Kiri-Kiri keeps her SGC RIGHT UNDER the missile tubes (w/o enough room for missiles on top) and the fact that you can't fit the huge cabin shown inside of I-401 together with an SGC (they have multiple decks that would barely fit in the hull's volume without any weapons), I'm pretty sure that the Fog are using dimensional pockets or some such to store all of their weapons.

PS-Einsig, re: avatar

That's not Hyuuga, I think. Who is it?

If the Comet Empire comes around again, that would be an appropriate moment for a full Fog Fleet Gatai, and unleashing of Ultimate Super Graviton Canon.

WAIT A GOD DAMNED MINUTE!

"We divided our forces in front of the enemy." Kodai said with honest admission. At the time, Gunzou's suggestion seemed like a good idea. Even now Kodai realized it should have worked. Yukikaze (Who was now asking to be called Yuki) and Chihaya's Isokaze had synchronized their maneuver perfectly. The convergence of missiles and the multiple threat vectors should have been too much for Mogami to handle.

Is that this story's version of Yuki Mori!?

Now I'm imagining the Gamilon fleet visiting Earth of 2199 in this universe.

"Just what -are- those objects, sensor officer? Some sort of picket station?"

"They appear to be generating a force-field, Admiral."

"Well, even if they're shielded, you should be able to pick up if they're armed or not."

"No, sir. They're not generating a shield around themselves. They're supporting a shield around the entire solar system!"

The Fifth Empire. A multisystem power that deals with multi-million-strong battlefleets by detonating solar systems around them, and thinks the Death Star is a slow, undergunned, poorly-designed, undergunned, underarmored, overhyped, and did I mention undergunned, frigate.

WAIT A GOD DAMNED MINUTE!

No. Just as was pointed out, the logical familiarizing of a Mental Model with the name Yukikaze. It's like how 2199 has two Talans in the collection of higher ups. So Yuki Mori and Yukikaze may come face to face or someone may forget which one they are talking to....
