Anime but filling in the world with details from the manga. If it was seen in the anime it happened, If it was in the manga and does not absolutely contradict the anime, it is accurate.
 
So... I'm taking it that Haruna and Kirishima going off to investigate Facility #4 never happened?

That requires Maya to be there.
 
Why not pick and choose the elements that are most satisfying from both so long as you can think of a justification. It is all going to be in the deep past in any case.
 
Also, I'm seeing a major plot hole here.

How do you explain I-400 and I-402? The Supreme Flagship exists. The Sen-Toku class were all her direct subordinates, outside of any chain of command except hers. If they still did the same things they did in the anime, Yamato is at fault for it or at the very least needs to do some serious explaining about what those two were doing.

I would also like to note that the way they were sunk doesn't look even close to what would be needed to actually kill them. We have seen mental models survive far worse.

I don't know why exactly, but this line fills me with warm feelings.
Despite the location being a spaceship dry dock, and the "mother" being... well, not homo sapiens.

Looking forward to when SBY's Union Core is activated and her Mental Model comes online.
Or the realization that little Yamato's features not only resemble her "mother's", but that of a certain submarine captain's as well...

On that note, it would be confusing if they're both called Yamato so the child would have to take a nickname...

Possible nicknames for the kid, based on Yamato's name being "大和":
"小和" / Sawa
"撫子" / Nadeshiko (as in, the flower, or the term Yamato Nadeshiko)
 
I'd suggest it the other way around. Base it off the manga as is available and borrow non-contradicting elements from the anime. Otherwise you get big problems if you're trying to import manga characters. Mostly plot holes concerning events in the anime.

The anime also cheapens the Fog's character development, attributing it to a sort of viral friendship instead of, you know, actual character development.

That is a sensible suggestion and probably more precisely fits what I'm trying to do anyways. As for Maya, I was of the opinion that 400 and 402 lied
about Maya.

So... Maya isn't an disembodied voice inside Kongou head now?

Or worse, placed inside one of Hyuga's spare Yotaro plushies?
 
No. Maya is quite well and real.

It seems that where I initially tried to use the anime for the sake of simplicity, I obviously need much more of the manga elements. Fortunately I don't think anything I've yet written has locked me in place. Except of course that Yotaro is actually a plushie and not chibi Kirishima in a costme.
 
She can still be chibi Kirishima in a costume. Nothing is dtopping you from making that retcon.
 
I have nothing against using the "Kongo learns to respect Blue Steel and question her life" element of the anime. We don't know for sure if that won't happen in upcoming chapters.

The problem I have with using the anime is that the anime really doesn't do anything new for itself. It just takes a hacksaw to the events and then throws in a weak "FRIENDSHIP" plot with a side of "Lol, troll Kongo".

The submarines trolling Kongo part is going to contradict a hell of a lot and cause major plot holes if you really want to mesh the manga with it.

Iona having to come back and rescue Haruna also fills me with nothing but unbridled rage.
