Are we able to re-lock the door to the darkwraith elevator? Either way unless we decide to make a habit of invading there's no need for us to kill it now
You don't have to worry about it, if anything is down there it doesn't seem to want to leave (much to my chagrin). The hollows who were guarding it are bound to return at some point soon anyhow.

[X] Take the sword...
-[X] Try and find the Knight and return it to them. Sure you've taken things before, but that was out of desperation. Taking something from someone who could still use it doesn't sit well with you.

[X] There may be stuff down in the Darkwraith's cell. Maybe it'll be useful stuff? Only one way to find out.

High Wall of Lothric 22: The Deepest Cell
As the two of you are walking back from Greirat's cell, you pass by the elevator down to the Darkwraith's cell once again.

You stop and turn to Hawkwood. "Alright, I know what you're going to say, but-"

"Please don't tell me you still want to go down there." Hawkwood deadpans.

"Well..." You begin.

"This is my life now, isn't it." He mutters to himself before you continue.

"Come on." You say. "If there was anything down there, they would've come out by now. Besides, maybe there's stuff down there?"

Hawkwood stares at you for a moment before he sighs, defeated.

"You know what, fuck it." He says. "Sure, let's go down into the murder-pit you seem to be so obsessed with. What could possibly go wrong with this idea?"

You'd tell him to try and stay positive, but frankly that probably is positive for him, so you'll just have to take it.

You walk into the lift chamber, noting the thick coating of dust everywhere in here besides near where the door fell, causing it to be blown away. Nobody's been here in a long time, to say the least. You take an uneasy step onto the wooden platform, which doesn't so much as creak despite its age. You wave Hawkwood over to join you, which he does with visible reluctance. You take a step on the wooden button that's on the elevator, which still bothers you because that's not how elevators work, but whatever, you just have to accept that things are dumb here.

The descent down is fast, surprising the both of you. You had just pushed the button and swear it almost feels like you're in free fall. You double check you have everything. You have the two swords you've found so far, although one of which is hopefully only temporary, along with their sheaths so you don't end up stabbing yourself. You have your shield, which is proving to be a bit of a questionable purchase, seeing as most of the enemies here could probably just break it if you so much as tried to block using it. You have your bag, and everything else is still inside it. Just to be safe, you drop Vordt's soul in there as well. Wouldn't want to drop it by mistake.

(Occupant's Reaction: 3/100)
Reacting to Reaction
Sayaka 7 - 10 = -3
Hawkwood 82 - 10 = 72

Hawkwood starts to say something, turning around, but before he can the elevator comes to a sudden stop, nearly throwing you off your feet. Hawkwood manages to keep his footing much better, only having briefly stumbling before catching himself.

Sayaka: 4 - 10 = -6 vs 74
Hawkwood: 64 vs 97

You yelp in surprise as you're suddenly bodychecked from behind, being thrown to the ground face first with a loud thud. You flip over, trying to shake off the sudden daze, and are met with the sight of a skeleton holding Hawkwood's sword in place with one hand, stopping him from moving it.

Sayaka takes (1d4) 2 damage (18/20)

Hawkwood: 9 vs 57

The skeleton keeps their grip on the blade of Hawkwood's sword, their hand continuing to glow a deep red. They're too close in to swing their own sword, so they instead smash the pommel of their massive sword directly into Hawkwood's head. Hawkwood falls to the ground, knocked senseless by the blow.

Hawkwood takes (1d6) 5 damage (15/20)

No, wait, it's not a skeleton, you realize. It's more like someone in a skeleton outfit. Maybe skeleton themed armor? You figure that this must be the Darkwraith you heard mentioned, seeing as their outfit practically screams "evil".

Sayaka: 6 - 20 = -14 vs 29

You throw yourself at the Darkwraith, leaping through the air while their back is still turned, blade in hand. The Darkwraith turns around, before disinterestedly swatting you to the ground with the flat of their blade.

As you try to get back up, you find a tight grip take hold of your neck, and raise you off the ground. You finally get a close look at the Darkwraith, and quickly wish you hadn't. Wearing an ashen white mask of a skull covered in tattered dark cloth, the Darkwraith seems to examine you like a lion would a gazelle. And you know they're wearing a mask when you see the eyes staring at you. These aren't the eyes of a mindless hollow, these are the eyes of something, or rather someone intelligent and well aware of their actions. Someone who knows what they did was wrong, but did it anyway.

You feel a hand touch your stomach for a brief moment, before the Darkwraith tosses you aside. Your face smashes into an empty suit of armor which quickly collapses in on itself. As you stand back up, it's then you realize what the Darkwraith is holding in their left hand. Surrounded by a fiendish red aura is your soul gem.

Sayaka takes (1d4) 2 damage (16/20)

Suddenly, a wave of nausea quickly overtakes you, drowning out all other sensation. Your limbs lock up on you,and you collapse to the ground with a thud. You're left to watch as the skeletal figure raises the stone up to their eyes to examine it more closely. The red aura intensifies, and the nausea is replaced by searing agony, flooding through your very being. You try to scream, to do anything to make the pain lessen, or at least do something beyond lie on the ground in torment, but your body refuses to so much as twitch. You can only watch as your soul gem quickly fills further and further with inky black.

"Fascinating..." the Darkwraith's hoarse voice croaks out, nearly unintelligible from disuse.

Abyssal Corruption +1000 (1000/2000)

Final Save Roll: 94

A figure rises behind the Darkwraith, still uneasy on their feet. Despite their stumbling, they rush the Darkwraith. Hawkwood lets out a yell as he raises his sword for an overhead swing.

Hawkwood: 74 vs 80 - 15 (Offhand full) = 65
The Darkwraith tsks, moving to avoid Hawkwood's swing. As they do, the pain finally ceases as the Darkwraith is no longer able to concentrate on whatever it was they were doing. Despite this, you find yourself still unable to move anything beyond your eyes, much to your literally inexpressible frustration.

"Watcher." The Darkwraith drones out.

"Monster." Hawkwood replies, voice dripping with venom.

Hawkwood: 67 vs 52 - 15 = 37

Another swing from Hawkwood forces the Darkwraith to drop your soul gem, instead being forced to use their glowing offhand to form a red disk, which they use to block the blow. The Darkwraith grunts as the force of the impact pushes them back.

Hawkwood: 19 vs 82

As your Soul Gem hits the ground, you find yourself finally able to move again. You grab your shield and push yourself off the ground once again. Once you get to your feet, you're greeted with the sight of the Darkwraith leaping forward and thrusting their sword through Hawkwood's stomach. A quick pull back, and Hawkwood collapses to the ground, blood pooling beneath him.

Hawkwood takes (1d10) 10 damage (5/20)
"Hawkwood!" You yell out, before a blue glow begins to surround his body. The bleeding from his wound seems to slow, much to the Darkwraith's displeasure. Knowing they can't finish Hawkwood off and deal with you, the Darkwraith instead gives a quick stomp to Hawkwood's face before kicking him to the side of the cell and turning to face you.

Sayaka: 76 vs 76

The Darkwraith and you slowly circle one another, neither willing to make the first move.

"What is wrong with you?!" You shout out, your voice echoing all around.

"A Watcher deserves no less." The Darkwraith spits out in their dry, raspy voice.

"That's rich, coming from a murderous monster." You growl back.

The Darkwraith sniggers, eyes locked on you. "I do not deny what I am."

You both move, rushing at each other. Your first thrust is avoided by the Darkwraith stepping to the side, while their responding slash forces you into a roll. You stand and spin around, trying to catch them with a slash of your own, but they deflect it with their strange hand-shield. They then try and bash your face in with their sword's pommel, but you manage to avoid the strike with a twist of your neck. You step back, only to find the Darkwraith making a follow up thrust. You manage to deflect the blow with your shield, while your own thrust is avoided as well. The two of you both disengage, clearly frustrated with the stalemate.

Sayaka: 85 vs 18
You move first this time. The Darkwraith's offhand begins to glow more intensely as you get closer, before their arm moves to try and grab a hold of you. You drop to the floor, sliding beneath the Darkwraith's legs rather than try and face them head on. They try and reach down to grab you, but weren't expecting this. They try and turn to get at you, but you've already spun around, sword arm outstretched. You have to angle your swing in order to hit the point where their chest piece and leggings meet. Your diligence is rewarded with your blade cutting dep into the Darkwraith's back, tearing through flesh and sending a spray of red blood to accompany the wound. The Darkwraith lets out a grunt of pain, but otherwise seems to ignore the wound, turning to face you as you prepare to follow up on your attack.

Sayaka: 100 vs 79
You leap once again at the Darkwraith, swinging your sword down at them. The Darkwraith catches your sword in their off hand, growling at you as they move to push you to the floor. You instead let go of the blade, much to the Darkwraith's surprise, causing them to fall forward. You promptly summon another sword in your hand, and stab it through the Darkwraith's stomach.

"Clever... girl..." their voice rasps out.

Hawkwood: 30 - 30 (Injuries) + 10 (BTSR) = 10 vs 29 - 30 (Injuries) = -1
You're soon greeted by the tip of another sword piercing the Darkwraith from behind, this time through their heart. The Darkwraith finally falls limp, their eyes going dim. As you remove your sword from the body, their body comes crashing to the ground, their fall is accompanied by Hawkwood's own.

As you rush over to Hawkwood's side, you spot a black clump float from the Darkwraith's body, materializing in Hawkwood's hands.

"Are you alright?" You ask, knowing the answer before you've asked it.

"Do I look alright to you?" Hawkwood barks out in an (understandably) grumpy tone. "Just pass me the Estus flask before I actually do bleed out please." He replies as he continues to grit his teeth.

You reach into your bag, uncork the flask and hand it to him, as he passes the Darkwraith's Soul to you with a look of disgust managing to overpower even the pain when he looks at it. Grunting in pain, Hawkwood forces himself to sit up and raises the flask to his lips.

Hawkwood uses 3 Estus, heals back to full (20/20)

As he chugs the entire flask, the blue glow that surrounded him fades away. Finished, he stands back up, wounds having vanished. He holds a single finger up to you as he walks over to the Darkwraith's corpse. He reaches down and grabs a weird looking red orb (why does it have an eye?!) which he promptly throws against the ground with a loud crack. He then adds some stomping for good measure. Only once it's been shattered into countless pieces does he seem content.

Finished with that, Hawkwood turns his head and stares at you wordlessly.

"What was that orb?" You ask, trying to avoid the obvious. Hawkwood's stare continues to bore into you. You try and ignore it, but he simply continues to do so.

Finally, you give up. "Okay, you were right, going down here was a bad idea. Are you happy?"

You try and ignore the small, but nevertheless very smug smile on his face as you walk over and pick up your soul gem. How did some weird dude in a skeleton costume touching your gem with his magic spook hand generate so much corruption? It reminds you of something, but you're not sure what...

"But really though, we got damn lucky this time." Hawkwood says, voice serious. "If it were either of us alone, we would've been killed without any doubt." He sighs. "So I guess that means I can't leave you even if I want to."

You're actually touched at the sentiment. Then he continues.

"In the future, please don't make awful suicidal decisions like this one."

Well it was nice while it lasted.

"Wouldn't we just come back even if we did die?" You reply, cleaning off bits of dust that now decorate your Soul Gem.

"That doesn't mean I have any desire to." Hawkwood responds. Finally satisfied that your literal soul is no longer dirty, you carefully put your soul gem away.

"By the way," Hawkwood says once you've finished, "what was that Darkwraith doing to that gemstone anyhow? You said that it's your Soul, right?."

You nod.

"And it filling causes the Abyss to come forth, yes?"

You nod once more, starting to feel anxious.

"But that was lifedrain being used. That should drain humanity, not whatever the hell was going on there..."

You shrug. "I really don't have any idea how the whole thing works."

Hawkwood sighs. "Another mystery then. Wonderful."

(Search for Goodies: 32/100)
Searching this place is a huge pain in the ass, you realize quickly. You're forced to check each and every suit of armor to see if there's anything inside them by Hawkwood, apparently as punishment for almost getting the two of you killed. It takes you well over an hour of tedium before you finally find something. As you're removing the left gauntlet from one of the suits of armor (You apparently have to put them back together afterwards. Hawkwood's lucky you get guilty easily) a metallic gray ring falls out, hitting the floor with a light clink.

According to Hawkwood, it's a Ring of Steel Protection, which does exactly what it sounds like it does.

Finally finished with this misadventure, the two of you both step back onto the lift, looking forward to being anywhere that isn't here.

Soul of one of the few remaining Darkwraiths, who roam the lands of men to feed their endless desires.

Long ago, the Darkwraiths are said to have been loyal Knights who were corrupted by the allure of the Abyss, and the words of a Primordial Serpent. They were sealed away at great cost to prevent them from ever returning, but were released by some forgotten madman.

The Abyss is filled with malicious, spiteful and deceitful creatures, and yet is itself peaceful. Much as a human is always the hero of their own tale.

Ring of the Knight-King of ancient legend. Reduces all physical damage taken by 1.

The Knight King was said to be lined with steel on the inside, such that even the talons of mighty dragons did him little harm. It was only fitting that he was said to have lost his life to something as mundane as a fall, rather than in combat.

This took me longer than I wanted it to, but the bipolar dice tilted me. First they wanted you to die painfully, and then all of a sudden no, they wanted you to live and make the supreme come back. If you hadn't passed that last save, you would've bad ended right there and then. From now on I'm taking screenshots of important rolls because this feels frankly almost unbelievable. In hindsight I really should've been doing that, but I thought "no, the dice can't possibly be this absurd" and boy was I proven wrong.

Also, I triple checked to make sure there were no major mistakes this time. If there turns out to be any I'm going to fucking cry.

MOTHER OF FUCK

Thank whatever god you like for that save roll and nat 100. We need way better gear if we ever try fighting one'a those fucks again.

[X] Return to Firelink Shrine and...
-[X] Visit Andre. You have a lot of swords on you, maybe he'll enjoy having a look.

Because we do have a lot of swords to be looked over, and until someone more knowledgeable chimes in I don't know where to take the souls.

Also, can we spend our banked souls now? We really need to work on our stats. That guy was a wakeup call, he damn near killed us both and turned Sayaka back into a witch, not even the bosses have come close to that. Harrowing as fuck yeah, but dang he wasn't even plot important! Can't be killed by some C-lister like that.

Hey, you were warned. :V

I was honestly surprised that anyone actually voted to go down there, let alone it being the winning vote.

I just wanted the plot hook dealt with tbh.

Hey, they exist. Step one is to be a warrior, and then step two is to punish every common anti-warrior strategy with the appropriate miracle. Running away? Time to heal. Cheesing with a bow? Cheese with a lightning bow. Find an opening? Lightning Dunk. It's not a person in robes with just their casting stats, but you can certainly make use of them and not be a pushover.

Slamming fistfulls of lightning into people's faces over their pointed objections never really got old. The entire weapon art for talismans is just 'we're doing this, the skill', which should tell you what the developers thought you should be doing with it.

Welcome! Always happy to see a new face.
Or an old face.
Really the only requirement is having a face, unless you don't have one in which case you'd probably be a giant.
I don't remember where I was going with this.

But yeah, feel free to vote for multiple!

Finally caught up. As someone orderline obsessed PMMM, it's interesting seeing someone else's take on Sayaka.
You don't need to worry so much about your writing, it's great! (although I do understand the doubt, as a fellow writer...)

Look forward to seeing where this goes, considering the differences from the game.

Firelink Shrine 13: Home
The ride back up is silent and almost painfully awkward. Neither one of you wants to say much of anything after been so near death. You especially. If Hawkwood hadn't stopped the Darkwraith, you have no idea what would have happened. Would you have returned to being a witch? Or would you be given an even worse fate, now that you've found yourself here?

Not wanting to consider either of the options, you limp your way back to the nearest bonfire, which is up a ladder, and two flights of stairs. You see a bandit hollow, but they run from you on sight. When you finally get to it, you both practically collapse down in front of it, letting the soothing warmth fill you before you even think about anything else.

After a minute of relaxing in front of the bonfire, Hawkwood finally speaks up. "We should head back to the Shrine, and check up everything." He turns to look at you. "Does that sound good to you?"

"I was actually thinking the same." You reply. With a nod, the two of you both place your hands over the bonfire, and reality ceases.

As you arrive at the shrine, you finally drop your transformation, returning back to your normal clothes. You should probably get something else to wear, a short skirt is not exactly cutting it. While you're at it, maybe some armor too? As much as you hate to admit it, Hawkwood's outfit does look pretty cool, if impractical, like why is the entire thing asymmetric? Thoughts for another time.

While you speak to the Fire Keeper, Hawkwood is off to visit Andre. Apparently he needed to ask him to work on something, and the Fire Keeper can only do something to one person at a time. So while Hawkwood quickly dashes off to the smithy, you find yourself turning to speak to the Fire Keeper, who you find waiting patiently next to the bonfire. You actually almost walk into her as you turn, but you catch yourself.

"Welcome home, Ashen One." She says, either oblivious or ignoring what just happened. "Speak thine heart's desire."

Home. The thought of calling a place like this 'home' is one you'd never have considered before. But now, you're not left with much of an option.

"Soooo," you drone out, unsure of what to say, "what do you, uh, do here anyway? I mean, besides... fire-keeping?"

Nailed it.

"My role is to tend to the flame, yes, but also to tend to thee. As an Unkindled, thou art a vessel for souls, and I can show thee how to turn sovereignless souls into thy strength through Soul Reinforcement."

"And how would I go about doing that?" you ask, curious.

"If you wish to, then touch the darkness within me." The Fire Keeper places a hand over her heart. "Take nourishment from these sovereignless souls."

You aren't sure how to respond at first. Wait, didn't she also say something about desires earlier?

"Is there a problem Ashen One?" The Fire Keeper asks with a tilt of her head.

"W-what do you mean by that, exactly?" you manage to stammer out. Does she just not realize her own wording?

"Ashen One, I am here to provide thou service in whatever way thou sees fit." She says with a straight face, although you notice a tugging of her lips as she continues.

The silence stretches on for a moment, before you speak. "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" you ask with a halfhearted glare.

"I have no idea what thou is refering to, Ashen One." The Fire Keeper replies, not even trying to hide her smile anymore.

If only Hitomi were here, she'd have a field day with this.

...Hitomi...

You sigh, pushing the thought from your mind befo. "Okay, so how do we actually go about this?"

"Take a knee, and raise your hand, and I shall grant thee the power you seek."

You do as she says, waiting for something to happen, but nothing seems to, much to the Fire Kepper's evident confusion

Oh. Right.

You hand the Fire Keeper your soul gem, which she takes into her hands, a look of surprise on her face as she seems to examine it. In the meantime, you return to the position you were instructed to take. Once everything is ready once more, the Fire Keeper begins to chant, her voice echoing through your mind. The whole world seems to slow down around you, as you watch her perform her duty.

"Let these souls, withdrawn from their vessels, Manifestations of disparity,"

Countless white motes come pouring out of your soul gem, spiraling through the air as they find themselves finally free.

"Elucidated by fire, Burrow deep within me, Retreating to a darkness beyond the reach of flame,"

As one, the white wisps fly into the Fire Keeper's outstretched hand, vanishing from sight. The moment the last one disappears, an orb begins to form in the Fire Keeper's out stretched hand. The orb is in constant motion, as if it were a living thing all of its own.

"Let them assume a new master, Inhabiting ash, casting themselves upon new forms"

The orb of souls seems to unwind, as a single long stream of souls begins to flow into your soul gem. It takes only a moment before the entire mass is gone. The Fire Keeper's hand drops, and the world seems to return to motion. You stand, relieved that the sudden intensity seems to have died down. The Fire Keeper hands you back your soul gem with a nod.

"Farewell, Ashen One." She says with a small nod. "May the flames guide thee."

Choose how many levels you wish to gain, and in what stat you want to put your points into.
For cost per level, check here.
You have 7960 souls currently, which means you can level up, at most, 10 times.

With that out of the way, you find yourself walking towards the shrine smithy, the clanging of hammer against steel feeling oddly soothing.

"Hey Andre!" You call out as you approach the huge man.

"Ah, y'r back." Andre says, as he places his hammer down. He quickly wipes the sweat from his brow, before facing you with a smile. "How've things been treating you?"

"Well, I nearly died several times." You reply.

"Aye, that tends to be how things are." He says with a laugh. He carefully moves the halberd he'd been working on off to the side. "So, what can I do for y' today?"

"Well, first I found this shard, I think I'm supposed to give it to you?" You search through your bag before pulling out the Estus shard you'd been given. Andre's eyes widen at the sight of it, as he motions for you to hand it over.

After giving it a brief look over, he nods. "Aye, this'll work just fine." He grins. "Mind handing over y'r flask, there?"

You're unsure of how a hammer is going to make two pieces of what looks like glass fuse together, but it apparently works, so you toss the flask over into his waiting hand. If you were expecting a satisfying answer, you're quickly reminded that those don't exist here when Andre just pushes the shard into the flask, before he hands it back to you.

"That should do it." He says with a smile. "Now was there anything else y' needed of me?"

"Actually, I wanted you to take a look at these." You say, refusing to admit your frustration with the logic, or rather lack thereof you have to endure. You hand Andre the two swords you've found, which he places on his anvil to examine.

"Any reason you want me to do this?"

"I wanted to see if you could figure anything out about them. See if they're magic or something." You say.

Andre turns to look at you squarely, and for a moment you worry that he's going to refuse. Then the smile returns to his face as he nods. "Well, y' never know." He says, picking up one of the swords to look at.

Slowly, he unsheathes the first. "Ah, a fine blade y' have here." He says as he examines the Knight's sword. "Work o' art, this one. Reminds me o' the swords of Balder with its length." He gives the sword a quick swing through the air, before nodding, seemingly satisfied, and handing the sword back to you. "Where'd y' find this?"

"It was a Knight of Lothric's. I'm planning on finding him so I can give it back."

Andre smiles, shaking his head. "That's kind of y' lass, I doubt I'd be willing to part with such fine work so easily."

With that, Andre unsheathes the other sword, his eyes widening as he draws the blade out slowly. "My, is this Astoran steel?" He mutters. "The design seems a bit familiar too, hm..." He strokes his chin as he tries to recall.

"So is there something special about Astoran steel?" You ask after giving him a moment to try and remember.

"Aye, all Astoran blades are forged with specific alloys made with infused titanite." He examines the sword closely. You just have ta'..." With a quick swing, the blade begins to emit a bright glow, turning a radiant gold. "Heh, I still got it." He says with a smile, before he hands you the blade back. As you take it, the glow fades, much to your disappointment.

"How'd you do that?" You ask, wide-eyed. You're not jealous, not at all. Not even a little bit.

"Y' just give it a swing, and if y' believe, then it'll activate." He says with a light chuckle, which quickly darkens as his face turns crestfallen. "A shame that there's nothing left of Astora now." He says somberly, shaking his head. "The whole country's nothing but ruins from what I've heard."

"Wasn't that your home?" You ask.

"Aye, it was, but that was before I was given the option between being locked in an asylum, or being exiled." Andre says, lost in thought as he stares into nothing for a moment. "I do miss it sometimes, though." He turns back to look at you. "Do y' not?"

"Hm?"

"Home. Do y' miss yours?"

"Yeah." You say, unable to stop a few tears from forming at the thought. Andre remains silent.

"Sorry for bringing the topic up." He says quietly.

"No, it's fine." you say, wiping your eyes. "You didn't mean anything with it." The conversation soon hits a lull, with neither of you sure of what you should be saying.

"So y' can make new swords at will, and make em vanish too, aye?" Andre asks, clearly trying to change the subject, to which you nod. "Can y' do anything else?"

"I'm good at healing injuries." You reply.

New Skill Time?: 77/100

"Useful, but I mean with weapons. Imagine if y' could use other swords as well, eh?" Andre says with a chuckle. "That'd be something."

You blink. That'd be ridiculous, there's no way that would work. You put your hand on the Astoran sword, aaaaaand it's gone.

There's a long pause as the you both process that, yes, that actually happened.

"Huh, fancy that." Andre says, rubbing his neck. He calmly retakes his seat in front of the anvil, politely ignoring your grumbling about how magic is dumb. Why didn't you get an instruction manual for this stuff.

A few minutes later, when you've finished venting, you hear the loud clanging of a smith at work. "Do you ever take breaks?" You turn and ask Andre. "I mean, besides when I'm here."

"Breaks are for lesser men!" He calls out in between strikes as you turn to leave.

You smile, Andre's positivity proving infectious. The man is pretty much the opposite of Hawkwood in that regard. Your footsteps are accompanied by the now familiar clang of hammer against metal as you go.

Gained new ability: Blade Storage
Can store weapons and summon them at will, allowing for weapon swapping on the fly. (Limited to Swords currently)
Cannot freely duplicate weapons, unlike your normal swords. If you summon one and throw it, it's gone until you pick it back up.

You search through the shrine in hopes of finding where Greirat's lurking. It turns out he's settling in on the lower level of the Shrine, down a small staircase next to Andre. He'd been so quiet you hadn't even noticed him, which you suppose makes sense. You just wish you hadn't searched most of the rest of the rest of the shrine before finally stumbling onto him. You approach Greirat, his back turned as he places a few odds and ends down on a dusty old rug he evidently found... somewhere.

"Making yourself at home?" You ask.

Greirat stumbles when he hears your voice, nearly dropping a vase he had been carrying.

"Well, I see you're back in one piece. I was just, well, doing that, yes." He gently places the vase onto the floor, squatting down on the floor.

"So, if you keep your side of the deal, then I'll be sure to keep mine. I'm sure by the next time you return, I'll be ready to set up shop!" He says cheerfully., before coughing into his hand."Just, uh, don't ask where I got them, alright?"

If most of the people you encountered weren't trying to kill you on sight, you'd probably be a lot more concerned about that.

"Anyway, you had some questions?" He asks.

"What exactly is the Undead Settlement?" A voice calls out. Turning, Hawkwood seems to have finished with the Fire Keeper.

"It's much as it sounds like, a settlement of Undead. The Undead were not welcome in Lothric, at least at first, so those who became afflicted with the Curse were left outside the walls to rot. Eventually enough people came together and formed a community, and seeing as how none of them could die, they tended to stick around. Company may help keep one from going hollow, but it can't prevent it."

Hawkwood nods. "What happened to those who did go hollow?"

Greirat head falls. "Originally there was a pit that Hollows were just thrown into, but last I'd heard they'd moved to burning the bodies."

"Would that even work?" You ask. Don't they just resurrect? Or did fire somehow stop that?

"No. I can speak from experience." Hawkwood replies. Oof. You can't stop yourself from wincing at the implication.

"The Settlement is split into several sections. There's the front gate that connected to Lothric back in the day. It was more of a welcoming area to any other unfortunate exile than an barrier. Then there's the settlement center, which splits into two paths. One leads into the valley and the back entrance of the temple, while the other leads down to the Road of Sacrifices."

"You'll want to be on the lookout for the Evangelists." Greirat continues. "It won't be hard, they're enormous. Bunch of fat bastards. They have huge spiked maces and cast odd looking miracles, although I'm not sure what those actually do. Legged it before I could find out."

"Most likely some sort of hex, if I had to guess." Hawkwood chimes in.

"Besides the Evangelists, most of the people were farmers, although with how long the Cathedral's been there I doubt you'll find much evidence of that. " Greirat says. "You may also want to find the tree, they might be able to help you."

"Tree?" You and Hawkwood both ask in unison.

"A spirit tree lives in the Settlement. The Settlement's temple is where you'll find them." Greirat explains. "I assume the front door to the temple'll be sealed shut, so the back way is your best shot." Greirat pauses. "If you wouldn't mind it, I'd appreciate if you checked up on them. They were always kind to us Undead, even willingly taking in curses to spare us from them. Trust me, you'll know them when you see them." Greirat says. "Oh, and don't forget to find Loretta and give her the ring!"

"We won't, don't worry." You assure him.

"Thank you for the information, by the way." Hawkwood says. "It's probably outdated, but it's better than going in blind."

"You keep your end of the deal, and I'll keep mine." Greirat says. "It's as simple as that."

[] Proceed to the Undead Settlement.
[] Before you go, make a quick stop at...
-[] Ludleth
-[] The Handmaid
[] There are still areas of the Shrine you haven't explored yet...
-[] Screw that overpriced scam key. Climb up the tower and see if there's anything on the roof.
-[] You never did check what was down the other path...
[] You know, there was that ladder in the Cathedral...

Only after coming up with the idea did I realize that the new ability was basically a discount Unlimited Blade Works.

Now who feels like robbing a man of his weebstick!

I am terrible at stat builds, I have that habit of spreading my stats out too evenly in order to do all the things! so I end up with someone who overleveled yet still sucks at everything. So I'll leave the stat distributions to the professionals.

But, for what we do after the stats... Dare we attempt to kick the hobo off our lawn? The Uchikatana is a pretty good weapon to keep in the back pocket, Good dmg, decent bleed. Biggest issue being it's terrible durability, which isn't all crippling when we can swap it out on the fly.

That said, the hobo is a bit of a parry god. not the Parry God, that'd be Hodrick, but he's a bit of a boss in his own right.

Nah, this is less UBW than sayaka's current magic IMO since it discourages using them as projectiles. This is the inventory screen quickswap. Look forward to Sayaka parrying someone and then pulling out a greatsword bigger than her to finish foes off, as is dark souls tradition.

Too late, this is the only path. Also does this mean we can only swap to other swords during combat, as in no swapping to an ultra greatsword?

To be quite honest i've never had to use repair dust at any point in my playthroughs, dks3 really didn't care about item durability. Whether that's the same here... eh. But otherwise killing the hobo should be easy, guys next to a cliff after all.

IIRC, due to her condition, Int also increases basically all physical stats.

Effect probably not going to be too dramatic, if only for balance's sake, but having no particularly outstanding weaknesses is not too bad.
