Better yet, take our second or third child and supplant him among the Cossaks. Once Mom is dead, have the child take over, and then swear allegiance to the Motherland.
...yes I realize it's completely insane, but I can dream.
1st Child Prince Of Russia
2nd Child Prince Of Poland
3rd Child Prince Of Don

It's all coming together...

And then they squabble over their inheritance when we die. As is tradition.:V
Well of course. If all turns out well, though, the strongest of them will survive, and unite a massive empire under him.

Out of curiosity, if this quest goes on so long that Vasily eventually winds up kicking the bucket, what then? Will the quest end, or will we continue on as one of our children (like in actual Crusader Kings)?

Nah. The thread'll revolt and be all pissy that the character they're so attatched to is dying.

Because Dynasty Quests never actually are. They're just Hero Civ quests.

Well then... Its time to buck the bloody trend and make it actually dynastic then. But seriously, it will go on until I get bored or that the story I wanted to tell is completed.

As far as I can tell that's because they all stop before the starting character actually dies. If the character starts at 18-25 then they have a good 2 decades (20 turns minimum) before its reasonable to start death by age rolls(even then they really shouldn't start ramping up until around 50) and most of the time questers will try to minimize the risk of death in battle, assassination, or by disease. So yeah most of these quests are hero quests instead of dynasty quests because interest of writer or questers usually dies before the character does.

Just do the ruthless CK2 thing and imprison and kill all your male children except your heir when you're about to die. Certainly causes less trouble then having to avoid a civil war almost every time your ruler dies.
So long as none of them are ambitious, you can generally keep your other brothers in line by having a decent spymaster (not one of them) and giving them some minor county or ducal title (putting them on you council in non-spymaster positions helps too).

I remember the Warhammer quests that did get to the point of 'you die, son takes over', or even made looked like it might.
Roman Legions were paid for months, there was so much salt produced.

Yeah, but with the way things are shaping up in my notes, this will be a dynasty quest.

Give everything to the first son, centrilize power, and remain loyal to your liege.
The problem is, while we might be able to keep all three of our sons in line, the moment we die, the other two are immediately going to go for our heir's throat along with any of their supporters. Plus, the emperor might not be too keen on one of our sons inheriting everything (especially if we manage to gain a hold on Poland, Siberia, and the Steppes), since we'll almost be big enough to threaten his hold directly (all it would take would be a few allies within the Empire, and boom). If that happens, he'll likely try to revoke some of our holdings, and distribute them to other vassals. By dividing the territories up among our three sons, our dynasty will be able to hang onto more land without worrying the Emperor as much; and since our sons will be more likely to aid each other's kingdoms against outside threats...

Alexander doesn't seem to the type to punish powerful and loyal vessels. If we can marry his daughter to our son, we'll be the muscle behind the throne.

I just want to point to anyone that isn't clear on it. The Cossack woman isn't our mother. Our mother was our fathers mistress, not the wife of the grand prince.

Notes: There was one big grammatical error when we first saw her and said "MOGOL" instead of mongol. Aside from that, great work. This is really epic and I look forward to seeing how we will handle large groups of semi-autonomous freemen. Also I would like this quest to go on for a long time. As an example, if we took over the empire I'd enjoy us having to deal with revolts and other things.

I think the main thing is to always have a storyline going on. So for example, right now we have Poland, preparing for our succession and (as always) the war with the mongols. If we can always have some kind of story uniting our actions then I think this would be great to continue with.

Awesome. I hope I will do well to show it.

I hope so to, but my notes only go so long before I start making shit up and write by the seat of my pants. And I hate writing by the seat of my pants. Quality tends to suffer.

Luckily we have an overarching story with the Mongols and the empire to keep us busy for awhile.

Just to be sure, does this mean "dressed like Mongol" or actually "belongs to Mongoloid race"?
And if the latter, how Mongol woman managed to become the wife of Grand Prince?
Alexi made peace with Mongols and married Khan's daughter to secure it, but it fell apart later?
Alexi took her prisoner in one of Mongols raids, then fell in love and made a mistake by marrying her?
And what exactly happened between them that drove Anya and Nicholas away?
Can Anya really be our mother? I think it's possible if Alexi decided that being bastard would be less detrimental for us than being half-Mongol.

We probably should choose "Study your family history" soon.

Turn 5 Rumor Mill
Turn 5 Rumor Mill

Reports From The Rus:

Moskova has been raided: Your vassals land has been raided, and because you did not stop the raids, he has grown resentful of you.

Reward: -5 relations with Lord Viktor of Moskova.

Crimea and Novgorod experience an extreme influx of refugees: The Raids from the Mongols have displaced many people over the last five years, and they continue moving to the only safe place that they knew, the grand cities of Novgorod, and the peninsula of Crimea.

Reward: If you recruit in the next two turns, you get a bonus 5000 men in your roll.

Report from the Order of the Dragon:

Vlad Tepes has executed Turkish diplomats: Due to an ongoing feud between the Balkin powers and the Turkish sultanate, diplomats were sent to smooth things over. The diplomats failed and they were (Gleefully) impaled by Vlad.

The story the Turks told was that the diplomats demanded Stefan Tepes if to become a ward of the sultan, and 10,000 Imperial Ducats if the feud was going to end peacefully. They said that Vlad agreed to the deal, but decided to go back on the deal when they were leaving. The Survivors claimed that Vlad was a monster in human form, filled with nothing but evil and ill content.

Vlad Tepes' story was a little absurd, but you had more trust in his words, then in the Turks. He said the Turkish diplomats were sure that he would cave into their demands, were mocking him and his brother, and brought up the time that they were 'wards' of the Sultan the first time when they and their father were kidnapped while on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. And when he refused to hand over his brother, they tried to kidnap Stefan in his sleep. Only to be stopped by Vlad himself, who was expecting the betrayal. He beat them all with a chair and ordered them impaled, and told the survivor that if he tried to threaten him or his family again they will be impaled.

The Emperor has fined him a thousand ducats and will serve one year in prison for attacking a diplomatic envoy of a foreign power, unlike the execution that the sultanate demanded for his role the death of its diplomats.

Reward: Reaching out to the Sultanate of Rum's difficulty increased by 10.

Report from the Rest of the Empire:

Grand Prince of Poland Exiles Zima Krakow: The King of Poland has exiled his cousin Zima on grounds of sedition and of unlawful use of Polish troops outside his borders. There has been no evidence of sedition or unlawful use of troops at this time.

Prince of Spain thwarted assassination attempt: Prince Renaldo of Spain stopped an assassination attempt on his father's life. Reports say that he was on the beach minding his own business when his father was assaulted by two men. Renaldo quickly defeated them with the use of a pitcher of water and his towel.

The Ripper strikes again: Helena Freeman, a local baker and tavern keeper, has been found murdered in the streets of Berlin outside Freeman's Bakery. The Guard quickly found evidence of Roy the Ripper. The Ripper has been stalking the streets of Mitte for five years and shows no signs of stopping his killing spree.

Reports from Outside the Empire:

T'challa retreats to the Congo: The Great warlord T'challa has removed his forces from Mali, taking untold fortunes in gold, back to the Congo. None knows why he fled south, but many fear he may be back. Back with a greater army, with sights on Europa.

Egypt and Persia are at war: The great powers of Egypt and Persia are at War.

AN: Enjoy.
