Best Game Ever | Dudley Quest [HP/The Gamer]

Am I the only one who likes being a warrior or monk in DnD Why can't we go a warrior route ^_^, Warriors should smash wizards faces in. I don't even want to try and get DnD Wizardness bleh it's just so bland and overdone. Now a proper warrior who can mow down rooms and rooms full of people? Haven't seen that yet ^_^

I always want to go that route

I ment in the gamer system, The gamer quests and stories always go *Pew pew magic pew pew*
There's a reason for that. It's because the Gamer is the ultimate Jake of all Trades. He's not locked into any specific class and can learn them all. To be just a warrior we'd have to intentionally handicap ourselves. When comparing the ability of magic to the ability of CQC magic has a significant edge. Especially in HP world.

I would rather be a warrior and have an actual accomplishment under my belt than just cheat at everything with magic. . .

Gamer's Body, Gamer's Mind, Gamer's ability to pull magical attack skills out of thin air, Gamer growth rates...

Even Power Strike is basically magic.

Any situation where one can touch a how-to manual and INSTANTLY learn it... is cheating. Any situation where one can manually manipulate a numerical value that corresponds to a physical trait? Cheating. And since it has no basis in reality, it's magic. Thus cheating with magic.

Or you treat it like the monk build it clearly is since you've got the body, mind, and Chinese bullshit try to make funky attacks up and make it work anyways.

Cheating? Yeah but magic not so much. You see that kind of thing in all kinds of rpg which are entire settings that basically do that.

Same for level up mechanics. Works just as well for fighters in d&d as it works for commoners and wizards. Simply ignoring the rules of that reality and calling it magic because you refuse it does not make it so. That would be like me claiming to be the president of the usa. Just because it is claimed does not make it true.

Good night everyone.

Good night everyone.
I think that falls into the "having no basis in reality" statement Dr. Doom made. If the Gamer lived in a game like reality where everyone had the same abilities he wouldn't be cheating or using magic, but since he's in a reality where they don't he's doing both.

Lying to yourself doesn't change reality.
Being a wizard that casts fist, and hamstrings himself by refusing to use his other spells, and claims to not be using magic is just lying (to himself and others). We can't be a regular AD&D fighter because this is not AD&D, it is HP/The Gamer with us having the ability to mimick some AD&D stuff with magic

You know this reminds me of a character from a webcomic which was a mad scientist that had a nervous breakdown and now claims to be a wizard, his "spells" are just technology which he calls magic because he is a loon. He yells "fireball" when he throws a grenade at someone

By that definition we're already a wizard and nothing we're going to do will change that.

We have MP, certainly. MP is more than just mana for the gamer power in the Manwha though. Ki? It translates as MP. Mana? It's MP.

Other energy sources would probably also translate into MP under the Gamer power...

For now, let's focus on being a Mekboy(engineering)/Kommando(sneaking)/Warboss(fighting and winning) instead of grinding in preparation of Weirdboy(magic) skills.

Whether or not we get a Hogwarts letter is something we can handle as it comes, when it comes and if it comes. What matters is that we've multiclassed extensively beforehand.

I'm actually extremely interested in how canon Vernon and Petunia would have come to terms with Dudley being a wizard. I hope we see an attempt at that here.

that is what i said, yes.

This bit was a relevant continuation of the quoted segment.

We don't necessarily have "magical" energy, it could be anything.

I mean, it's probably magic but it might not have triggered the sensors yet(which seem geared towards detecting magic usage, not individuals who have magic). So we may or may not have pinged as "wizard" yet to the magical world. Bureaucratic inflexibility might mean that if we don't ping before the start of the school year we won't be getting the letter at all(in which case we can interact with the magical world on our own terms instead of having to go to Hogwarts. I don't think everybody in this thread particularly wants us to go there).

I think the pit of voles has a few works that follow that premise...

I believe what you are looking for is incompatible systems of magic.
like how wizard magic and psion magic might have no interaction at all in dnd (or they might be the same thing, its up to the DM to choose which system to use).
We are a mana user, they are wand users

The whowhat of where? Off to Google I gooo~

Edit: oh. Do you mean all of ffn, or specifically the bad part when you say that? Urban Dictionary wasn't clear.

Either way, I was hoping for a well-written character exploration. You gave me false hope.

The nickname "Pit of Voles" comes from a Google-bombing campaign that succeeded for a while in making FanFiction.net the number 1 Google search result for that phrase. The aforementioned AdultFanFiction.net is known as the Uber-Pit. Currently, FanFiction.net is the fifth result for this phrase, with the Urban Dictionary definitions linking to FanFiction.net as first and second. Third? This article.
but I still don't know what it means

Not quite what I'm trying to convey...

We are an MP user. Important distinction.

Ki is MP, psionic powers would probably rate MP. Magic(wanded or mana) is most likely going to be MP.

Basically, Magic is MP but MP does not have to be magic.

It's a joke about ff.net

I think that MP is just magic but the Gamer power automatically converts any other type of energy manipulation into MP. It's not that the Gamer has Ki. It's just that whatever Ki skills he learns change to function with MP.

That would require it to first configure all forms of usable energy into one type before shaping that type to fit a specific mold(magic) and converting all learned skills to function based off that mold.

Occam's razor, changing MP to turn into magic specifically is a redundant step in the process unless magic is the default baseline form of energy for the universe.

We have no way of telling with accuracy.

Okay that's true that occam's razor suggests otherwise, but the outright source material for The Gamer ability, The Gamer manhwa, has it work exactly like that.

From spells to magic martial arts tricks, everything that consumes a resource consumes MP, and there is no listed 'Ki' stat.

It's even something the MC consciously considers in-canon, the whole 'everything converted to MP by The Gamer ability' thing.

You're missing the point.

Others are arguing that MP=Magic.

I'm saying we can't know for sure if MP=Magic or if MP is the array that contains magic/ki/etc...

The Manwha has everything converted to MP which is indicative of Ki in the Chunbumoon fighters and mana in the various mages in the Manwha.

The outright source material, contrary to your claim does not "work exactly like that" Rather, the source material has it listed as "MP" which can be increased independent of INT through Ki exercise and which benefits from Mana affinities. It's still listed as MP though. Not "magic" or "mana" Just MP.

Edit:
Now, I know what you're thinking: MP is usually shorthand for magic points in video games. But because MP is the most commonly used term for a resource in video games it's not unreasonable to just take it at face value: a case of the HUD translating the unified resource system into something The Gamer can easily grasp the concept of.

I'm pretty sure MP is just short for Mana Points. It didn't mean anything on its own. Like HP is Health Points (or hit points, depending)
