Best Game Ever | Dudley Quest [HP/The Gamer]

[x] Give him a sandwhich and invite him into your room.
-->[x] Pretend to be a Bond Villain caught in the act just like in one of those movies Daddy likes to watch.

...because pranking someone via mind-bending has got to be good for *something*, right? Also, I think it will be funny.

Sorry I did not notice it right away.

I do not mind to hit Harry, it is unpleasant, but it is in the nature of Dudley. I just personally unpleasant to differentiate amongst people claim that Harry deserved the beating and humiliation. That's all I did not want to offend the people who vote for this option.

Oh yeah, I just do not see how to indicate the fact that Dudley was not smart enough as it is an insult. We know that Dudley was not very smart at the beginning of the quest. Even Dudley fully understands that he became much smarter. There are totally different ways of responding to it. From denial to attempts to think about the words of Harry.
Saying that we're not smart enough to remember something that happened that morning is definitely an insult. I don't see how it can be viewed as anything else.

I honestly do not see it as an insult, even worthy of attention. Basically it well, just does not cause me any response. Maybe Dudley will be offended, but frankly I do not see it as an insult.

Although it is not a subject for which I am ready to argue. I can simply say that you are right, it is an insult and we stop to discuss it.

An insult though it may be, I think we all know in the back of our minds that's Harry is speaking the truth. We don't have to be happy about it. We should feel angry that he just so bluntly stated it, though I don't think to the extent most people seem to want. But we should acknowledge our dramatic intellectual shift. One day Dudley will look back on all this and think to himself "How could I have possibly been that stupid?". So let's start acting smart, and get back at Harry in a subtler fashion than usual. That way Harry's insults toward our intelligence won't be true anymore.

I don't really know how much that helps this conversation, but that's my view on things.

I vote for option Bond villain for several reasons. 1) it's funny, 2) it is smart, 3) It is even more confusing Harry 4) it can give us some skill, 5) is a chance to see the reaction of Harry and Dudley possible chance to understand that despite the fact that no matter what his cousin takes care of him.

[X] ... What.
-->[X] No, seriously, what.
-->[X] Did he just call you stupid!?
-->[X] Has he been in your room?!
-->[X] Who the hell does he think he is?!

[X] ... What.
-->[X] No, seriously, what.
[X] Punch him and run away.

It's not like we need to use all the options under the 'what' choice, and I think this combination will do nicely for both protecting our secret, and satisfying our inherent outrage. Oh, yes. Also:

[X] Explain (read, 'brag') that Dudley has been replaced by the newer, better, Dudley 'Flame-Eater' Dursley, and he's probably upset because he has a tender mouth.

That can happen before we punch him, or after if he keeps at it and doesn't leave us alone. Either way.

This is a joke right? I do not see any strong insults here.

And the concerned cousin? Are you seriously? He has no reason to be so. The fact that he does not sing "Hooray witch is dead" when he saw that Dudley changed his behavior is incredible. He is clearly worried about Dudley, despite the fact that he hates him. This attitude of the family, because many families do not really like each other, but still willing to stand back to back against the others.

No, this is not a joke. ;)

First, my bad. I meant to quote Shadlith when he said he was acting like a concerned cousin. I didn't mean to respond to you in that part of my post.

He said Harry was acting in a heartwarming manner by being concerned and worried for us. I said he was hardly acting in such a manner by acting confrontational, calling us stupid to our face, and then mucking about in his room. And I never said anything about the insults being strong. How does Harry really feel right now? Only the QM knows, and I'm looking at it from the subjective perspective of Dudley.

Sorry I did not notice it right away.

No one here is acting self-righteous and saying Harry deserved anything. But, OOC and IC (the perspective of 11 year old Dudley) we can subjectively interpret how Harry is acting and respond accordingly. To say our behavior as players is disgusting is taking it too far. Some of us think Harry is acting like an ass and want to have some fun by making him out to be the bad guy.

EDIT: And yes, some of that fun comes from the fact Dudley totally was a jerk to Harry prior to the quest, and that Harry is generally treated like shit by the entire family. The irony of it just makes it more fun.

I'd consider someone saying I'm too stupid to do [] to be an insult.

Oh, there are totally different ways to take it. One of the ways is to be offended and feel insulted. It's actually the most IC reaction considering the choices the QM wrote up.

-->[] Did he just call you stupid!?

The other one was to break down crying.

That explains some things.

With regard to the behavior of Harry, I can see how it heartwarming. Yes, it behaves quite unpleasant to Dudley ... And yes IС point of view, he should behave better. However, from an external point of view, it's really amazing nice to see that he did take care of the possibility of death of Dudley. And its replacement by a clone, do not forget about it.

I'm actually considering voting for a barrage of questions and indignation before seen option Bond Villain. And yes do not just break into tears, but cry and call his mother. Horrible way, but also canonical. In fact, I think virtually all of the options proposed GM rather canonical.

[X] Look at food in hand, then look at Harry.
-[X] "Hold these."
-[X] Sock Harry in the face. Afterwords, retrieve the food and go back to what you were doing previously.
[X] "It's called puberty. You'll understand when you're eleven."

Well, whether one is offended by the insult or not is another issue. It was certainly an insulting statement though.

He's not really speaking the truth with that statement though. Are we smarter than before? Sure. Were we so stupid that we couldn't remember things that happened that morning? We're an 11 year old kid not a hamster. He's not doing himself any favors by being hyperbolic about how stupid we were.

I feel like people are overlooking that "Who are you and what have you done with [identifier]?" is a somewhat common figure of speech expressing surprise or similar over someone acting rather out of character. It is unlikely Harry is literally accusing Dudley of having been replaced by someone else... I mean, it is admittedly a bit odd that Harry would use that phrase given he is unlikely to have been exposed to them, but it is rather more likely than him jumping to the conclusion that Dudley was replaced given his strongly anti-supernatural upbringing.

owrtho
oh biscuits you are right! we just went and did a suspiciously specific denial there.
what happens when harry figures out we were thinking he was being literal?

My only concern is that giving Harry food might be a little out of character...
