For one moment, just one moment, I had gotten a sense of pure, existential terror when I saw how many shipgirls were attending the wedding. This is one of two things.

One, I experienced a single millisecond of what Ooyodo was feeling...

Or two, something very bad , like 'Massive enemy surprise attack' bad is gonna happen at the wedding.

I think Marathoning Game of Thrones recently was a most Unwise of an idea for me before seeing that update.

Hey I just noticed that the snippet from early today isn't thread marked.

Also I thought that the destroyer would have been Willie D, but I'm glad to see USS "IM NAKED" is still kicking around, waiting to drive Arizona up a wall.

Are you expecting a Red Wedding/Pearl Harbor type situation?

I second that. Something's about to hit the fan. I don't think it's a surprise attack though. It would be suicidial to attack that many ships. I'm thinking that a summoning might happen with a certain battleship that has been summoned yet, and she won't react well to seeing all these enemy ships. If I rember correctly, you need people, sunken abbyssal ships, and good wishes. We've got all three.

Yeah, Gale...going to Borie for OBGYN stuff wasn't the best idea. Naka is adorable as always; I predict she'll find someone who worships the ground she walks on and lives happily ever after. Jintsu, I predict, will find a nerdy Star Wars fan among the Naval Base personnel and fall head-over-heels for him.

I agree...I'm saying it'll be another Pearl Harbor survivor (possibly Oklahoma), a 'Bar Room Brawl' participant like Atlanta or Juneau, or possibly even Enterprise herself. Then again, it could be Wisky or Mo. And wouldn't that put a crimp in Jersey's plans to not fuck up Mutsu's wedding? (Because you know she'd flip shit emotion-wise if any of her sisters inadvertently got summoned.)

And on another note, anyone else think Kongo and Goto aren't going to wait until the war's over before getting together? I mean, seriously...you don't know the power of the Dess Side! :D

Agreed.

... Oh god, Kongou is a Ree in disguise! *Flees reality*

Nah, that'd be the bunch of Ayanami-class destroyers. ;)

Either they won't need to attack, just because having that many shipgirls at the same location is bound to devolve into full pandemonium, chaos and destruction, or they are stupid enough to attack and a certain someone will be in a 'Katie first, apologize later' mood.

I'm too stoked about these two updates to really even think about grim possibilities.

But now that I am, I realize that any Abussal foolish enough to poke their head in will come face to face with enough firepower to glimpse at the impossibility of Enuff Dakka.
Just thought of this: Kongo's gonna wear a wedding Dess~ :p
That was terrible. Have a Funny. XD

Huh. What a coincidence. I was watching clips from The Iron Giant when I noticed the notification that the chapter went up.

Funnily enough, the clip I was watching had Big J in it!

Coincidence? I think NOT!

those two would have a hard time doing any damage to anyone not a destroyer though... and would likely be silenced by a flying heavy cruiser hug curtesy of San Fran before they could do anything.

Are you expecting a Red Wedding/Pearl Harbor type situation?

Believe it or not, yes I was, Though whether it comes from a Abyssal attack (not likely, but not completely out of the question. ESPECIALLY If its a Kamikaze Attack... that's aimed to take out All present Admiralty.... I mean... it'd only really take exactly one plane or even part of one getting through the flak screen for very bad things to happen to the significantly less durable John.)

Or as what some other folks have said, a Old Standard coming back who ISN'T gonna take seeing so many enemy ships in one place well... or perhaps... if one is more psychotically inclined. She might take too well.
(Admittedly, I have no idea exactly who some other people are implying might come back during the wedding)

Yeah Marathoning Game of Thrones before coming back to this story (hence my absence from here for a while) was a bad idea. I need cutes to clear the bad thoughts out :V

So I'm only 100 pages through the thread and thus don't know if this has been bought up later.

I haven't played the game or managed to get a copy of the anime yet, so I might be missing some of the mechanics.

But the thing that keeps striking wrong to me is all the talk of how the modern tech has needed to be nerfed to minimise the effect vs the abyssals.
To me, the reason that tech has a problem hitting them is a dichotomy between how the human brain perceives the size of the various aircraft/ships vs the actual size.

The brain sees a 2.2 million ton pycrete carrier; in reality it is only really the size of a little girl.
Fairies were described earlier as being about 3 to 4 inches tall. If you scale that to the size of the plane it would be flying (using 2" to the metre) then a Zero would be 18 inches long (wingspan of 2 feet) and the Hurricanes flying from Hoppou would be about an inch longer.

They don't show up on radar until you're very close because they only have the radar cross section of a model, even if your eyes see them as full size.
Your GPS or laser guided bomb misses the 600 metre long iceberg because you were in reality aiming at someone that would fit within a single square metre.

Yes, I am aware that ordinance fired by the abyssals (and the shipgirls) reverts to having the effect of if it was life size when fired, but that's just simple magic within the setting.

Shipgirls are so much more effective than standard human tech simply because they're working at the same scale as the abyssals. Shipgirl zero vs abyssal reppu: they're almost the same size (whether that is 9m vs 11m or 18" vs 22").
Shipgirl radar can see abyssals simply because the magic that makes the shipgirls exist is the same as that for abyssals. But to the objective observer not effected by magic (i.e. not a human brain) they are really just human sized things firing arrows or revolvers (or whatever other thing their rigging looks like) at each other.

As I said, haven't seen/played the original source yet, so could be completely off course, but this is just what pops up as obvious in my brain.

As much as I'd love to see a Red Wedding happen... don't think it's gonna go off.

Nope. In this story, Abyssals are full-size warships. Modern stuff just doesn't work because spooky Abyssal bullshit.

Given that there's going to be enough flak there to kill a Destroyer type Reaper, that's not going to happen.

True, though I'm not sure if Flak from shipgirls would produce the exact same thing... but when you have that much flak in the air. Shrapnel from it eventually it all comes raining back down... and I know there's been reports of people who've died from AA shrapnel falling back down to Earth. Though then again... I can see Mutsu holding Ari's greatcoat over John to shield him from falling debris... or if that won't work, holding a destroyer over him like a murderball umbrella.

Oh great... now I'm thinking of which destroyer would be the best umbrella if it came to that.
