Wait, is that the on duty uniform of the US Navy? I understand camouflage helps you hide, but doesn't a sailor want to be found if s/he is swept overboard? Or, am I missing something?

Please tell me I'm missing something.

Minor nitpick Navy working uniform is the blue digicam.

*Not* anymore! Navy got rid of aquaflage a couple months ago. Back to green pattern NWUs :)

Whoever designed the blueberries was an idiot: blue camo for seaduty, and a firefighting uniform that was Highly, highly flammable.

Edit: yes Thor, we know blueberries were phased out for sea duty in 2014 due to damcon requirements. But the Navy still required them at the start of the "aquaflage " disaster.

Onboard ships sailors don't wear NWUs. In 2014 the Navy introduced something called the Shipboard Working Uniform, it's a coverall and is made out of a flame resistant material. It's better than the Type I NWU.

Got to see a LOT of places on board Iowa today. Pictures now and yet more albums to come soon (or once I put them together on Imgur). First, exploring some of the areas below Iowa's decks, like the barber shop and brig!

Second, Iowa's Combat Engagement Center, or CEC. Enjoy!

I said it once, I am going to say it again. @Nicholas you are one lucky sonofabitch to be able to work on the USS Iowa, I love WWII stuff. Closest I have ever come, has been helping in restoring a TBF Avenger that crashed in Lake Michigan.

Don't bother hiding your pants, she'll just find them anyway...

EXCITED JMPR NOISES!

Seriously, she looks just how I pictured her! Awesome!

The camo is so paint stains blend in. That way the uniforms will last longer at sea when you're constantly bu

The idea was to make a uniform that would easily hide everyday working stains aboard ships. No I don't understand it either and I have to wear the damn thing.

We shall mourn the passing of the NWU, as we mourn the passing of the Rating system.

Albie: Oh... I thought they were finally making things for us subs...

Albie, submarines, particularly Attack Submarines have come a long way. Although SSBNs are nothing to sneeze at either. I mean the Russian Typhoon class SSBN displaces between 33,000 and 48,000 Long Tons submerged. Submarines today are quieter, deadlier, and more comfortable for the crew than they were fifty years ago. Not to mention they are Nuclear Powered as well, anywhere between ten to twenty years before you need to replace the cores? Go figure!

But yes, I suggest that you read up on the Mark 48 ADCAP Torpedo, its a nasty submarine torpedo.

Then again you are a submarine and have probably looked all of this up.

Design improvements don't change the fact that submarines are still small metal tubes that stay underwater for months on end.

But hey, at least they have unlimited air now, and the crews are integrated as well now too.

(Crossposted from the Fics and Recs thread) Remember when I said I had more pictures? I have a LOT more pictures. There is a large corridor that runs almost the entire length of the ship on Deck 3. So naturally, it would be called...

This then branched off into two other places. First:

And Second:

Enjoy!

Had to return from NC early thanks to surprise hurricane. No Showboat, unfortunately. She'll be able to weather the storm, though. She's still in somewhat decent shape and is kind of too stuck in the mud to capsize :V

Excuse me? Could you repeat that? It sounds like you're making light of the Iowa-class. She'll probably be the only thing in the harbor afloat.

EDIT: My bad.
