Yes,No one alive has fought a surface gun action in almost a century and the Captain is champing at the bit to close for action.
Experience,Chance and Luck all play apart in a in a fight and sad to say the Abyssals got the Experience for such an action.
Which is why I said Stupid.
He's also a Captain who's had his ship shot out from under him (implied in the passage when he's talking to the OOD and notes that teh OOD is younger, 'hasn't had a ship shot out from under him'.) I think he's going to have a measure of caution.
But what if those Scharnhorst's aren't alone?

If the Scharnhorsts aren't alone, then that's why she's coming to aid the JPJ and Amatsukaze. Amatsukaze is after all MSGBS, while the JPJ is a Flight II Burke. She's also bringing along her own escort in the form of the Chaffee, probably a Flight IIA or III Burke. So she's not alone either.

Besides the Scharnhorsts were intended to act mostly independent of support. (Thick armor, lots of bunkerage, covered in secondaries) Not saying that they are here but Amatsukaze didn't report any Zerstorers or Cruisers with them.

If he can keep a level head and not get tunnel vision Mo's got an excellent odds.
But The battlefield is Murphy's kitchen and the Burners have been lit.

here's the thing the Sharnhorst record isn't that good when you look at it closely everytime they went against something bigger then a cruiser (outside of a blind carrier) they either got sent packing with their tail between their legs or had their asses kicked.

Scharnhorst class Battleships they have good belt armor, 13.75 inches but the deck is at most 3.7 inches. Yeah, a Mark VIII APC round will go through that like butter. However quick question, has Mighty Mo had her Missiles removed and 40mm Bofors and 20mm/70 Caliber Oerlinkons put back on?

What if these Abyssal-Scharnhorsts are equipped with the 15" guns they were supposed to be given in their refits before Hitler went on his "scrap the surface navy" tantrum? We've already seen that the Abyssals have give the Derfflinger sisters upgrades, so doing the same for a larger, faster, and heavier armored ship doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.

Even if they have 15in guns, they would likely struggle to penetrate Mo', at a range of 25,000 meters they can go through just over 12 inches of belt armor.

I'm not entirely sure it would reliably pen Mo's deck anyways. I expect them the have the 15" guns because that makes for a far more intense writing scene other than, 'lol USN Steel stronk bounce everything', because 11" guns sure as shit wouldn't cut it.

It's Wargaming, they are behind the Abyssal threat! :p
It makes sense...

They kickstart the Abyssal threat, which renders conventional warships defenseless, which means the navies of the world have to summon the Kanmusu. This means the reincarnated spirits of the ships in WoWS are out fighting for humanity. Which means they can create premium ships of specific girls, maybe with special skins to reflect their clothing, and sell them to make money.

Heck, the Kanmusu play WoWS as well, they play the game so they get the chance to play...with....them.....selves.....

TL;DR capitalism caused the Abyssals

Plus unlike in WOWS, Mo can do a Barn door stop. Wherein you slam the engines into full reverse and turn the rudders towards each other so it looks like a barndoor. This can arrest an Iowa class Battleship doing 35 knots to a dead stop in about 600 feet! That is nuts!
It also damages the fuck out of said rudders, causing them to loosen up significantly. Not a good thing.

But they have Missouri on their side--not simply the ship, but the spirit of the Missouri. She was there on the bridge--the captain heard her. And she should be able to counteract the abyssal spookiness that screws up modern radar etc. as well as help the current crew with the skills of her original crew. Aboard the Missouri is probably the safest place on the ocean right now.

Missouri resurrected herself. I'll bet that she has a proper WWII fitout.

I'm looking forward to ship-Missouri meeting girl-Arizona. Will the shipgirls be able to see spirit-Missouri?
