Ascensions and Transgressions: the Tales of Keris Dulmeadokht (Exalted game)

I forgot something that i wanted to ask, but reading the recent discussion gave me another question: how you are going to deal with the alterated Soul Hierachy of Autochthon?

Folding the second circles in the third circles seem to be something nifty for an infernal. You get less souls, but presumibly you got to knew your "Third circle" souls for a longer time (If you are like Keris): having less chances of them being killed seem to be a good trade.

God no. It's a terrible deal. It means you don't get 2CD summons.

Autochthon is a fuck-up. His Third Circles can't fight each other, which means he effectively can't choose between different paths that different parts of his personality support. And then his Third Circles can't properly express their natures either due to the lack of Second Circles. Normal Third Circles are left severely incapacitated if someone kills all their Second Circles, so we know they're a vital part of a normal Third Circle's metabiology. Even if Autochthon has a work-around, that's going to be impacting them in some way.

What Autochthon has done to his soul hierarchy makes him basically the equivalent of a human who can't suppress any of their Principles, and so gets locked into indecision whenever he's driven by competing impulses. No wonder he's in a coma. He can't make decisions unless his entire mind is in agreement.

Keris would be appalled at what he's done to himself. Her souls fighting is a normal and healthy part of how she thinks. When Calesco and Rathan get into a fight, that's her mind working through the competing urges of Vengeance and Compassion.

(The fact that Calesco is a dirty vicious fighter who fights like a Nexan street rat while Rathan is a social-focussed pretty-boy means that when Calesco manages to leverage their contests into personal violence, Compassion tends to win by kneeing Vengeance in the groin or punching him repeatedly in the stomach. Rathan considers this to be unfair victimisation, though, and sometimes wins fights between them by getting Calesco grounded for bullying him, freeing Keris to take revenge on people without Stupid Useless Compassion getting in the way.)

So Oramus has a 3CD whose an Adventurer whose Heroic deeds are being spread throughout various realities.

The most important question is if said 3CD is the mold of Lord Flashheart, Ace Rimmer, or Harry Flashman

Alas, this soul is known in other worlds by the title "Florida Man".

The second part i knew, but i was assuming that it was something different from the result of folding the 2CD souls in the 3CD ones.

If it is the same i agree it is an horrible idea.

Honestly, I don't know why the hell OOC they decided when writing Autochthonia to not give the Divine Ministers their own 2CDs. I don't follow the chain of logic that leads one to decide to not give a bunch of 3CDs their most distinctive trait, unless you just didn't like the fact that they were 3CDs.

If I were rewriting Autochthonia from scratch in a serious way, I'd probably just drop that element of the background. Or, heh, if I wanted to do something strange with them I'd go with Autochthonia's eight-theme or its six-theme and give them a slightly different number of souls, to show they'd been modified, but were still fundamentally the same class of being.

Hey, question: Sometime back Lilunu got three Keruby as a gift, one aspected to each of Keris' first four Pantheon souls. Will she get an updated gift of one of each of the newer kinds? I imagine she'd get a lot of mileage out of a living canvas.

It says something about Keris that her Compassion is a dirty vicious fighter (and even her social-fu is dirty as fuck), her Vengeance is a social spec pretty boy and her Joy is a miming speedblitzing murder moechine.

I'm not sure what.

It says that she's fucking nuts but we already knew that now didn't we :V

Well, clearly it means that Compassion is mean, sarcastic and hurts you by making you do and think things you don't want to, while Vengeance is seductive, easy on the eye and much more pleasant to be around. Also, apparently Compassion is a goth?

Unfortunately the only person who understands what Joy means is Joy herself, and she communicates only through mime and is a troll. We also don't know exactly why Joy considers ribbons to be the ultimate form of artistic and aesthetic expression, or why so many of her creatures are blood-drinkers.

(What's more alarming is considering what on earth it means for her personality that Joy, Compassion and Greed team up to put Vengeance in a dress when he doesn't want to.)

It's her ability to forgive.

Nah, it's probably more symbolic of how Compassion, Joy and Greed all agree that revenge gets in the way of Keris being compassionate, happy and wealthy, probably.

Certainly, the way that Echo, Calesco and Haneyl will frequently join sides to make a sisterly power block when something all three of them want shows up indicates that Keris has some kind of mental association between "being happy", "being rich", and "being able to be kind and generous".

(and the fact that sibling squabbling so closely resembles Unquestionable power conflicts says a lot of things about both Third Circle Demons and small children)

No, the illusion breaks once people realise it is in fact an illusion for the Oramus version of the charm.

Although for that 3CD there is almost certainly has an expansion that means that the illusion doesn't break when the first person sees through it, but instead causes everyone to disbelieve the poor sop who starts ranting "He's not a Realm general, he's a giant demon! A giant demon I tell you!" Probably infects them with Nosgonia or the like. However, once the second person within a given community sees through the illusion, then it breaks and the demon wanders off again to find another community to do their work with.

Four, actually. Keris didn't bother giving her a fog cherub because, you know, they just scream at you and try to pounce on you from above and then scream even more and run away when you throw fire at them. Or so says Haneyl, at least.

She may or may not revisit this and give Lilunu four more hand-crafted pages for this Calibration, depending. : 3

So I take it Zanara is also where Keris put her "fuck the raksha all day erryday" Charms?

Because it seems to me that being able to take a raksha's story-body and say "Your story is bad and you should feel bad, so now I'm gonna repurpose it to make my own stuff" is more brutal than simply beating their heads in with a magic club.

Iunno. The closest thing Keris has to an actual anti-Raksha charm is Fond Remembrance of Adrian, because it gives them PTSD flashbacks in addition to noping and counterattacking Shaping. And I'm pretty damn sure Echo has FRoA.

Moarmoar Kerisbleg! This time three parts. I will catch up one day.

Eventually.

I hope.
[12:36 PM] Rook: PART THE TEN
[12:37 PM] Rook: when last we left Keris, something was rotten in the state of An Teng
[12:37 PM] Aleph: Indeed
[12:37 PM] Rook: and it wasn't her
[12:37 PM] Rook: for once
[12:37 PM] Rook: or Sasi
[12:37 PM] Rook: or just basically everything
[12:37 PM] Aleph: I resemble that remark!
[12:37 PM] Aleph: Rotten things are Abyssal
[12:37 PM] Aleph: Infernal things are demonic.
[12:37 PM] Rook: lol
[12:37 PM] Aleph: The two are entirely different.

[12:38 PM] Rook: or, well, not, if all goes well
[12:38 PM] Rook: ooo
[12:38 PM] Aleph: The first hints, incidentally, that Keris is not actually awful at socialing.
[12:39 PM] Aleph: She has a strong natural grasp of "charming" in person.
[12:39 PM] Rook: hum
[12:39 PM] Aleph: It's just Presence-based, not Politics.
[12:39 PM] Rook: they just do what they have to do eh
[12:39 PM] Aleph: yarp
[12:39 PM] Aleph: it r very freaky
[12:39 PM] Rook: "i've been to literal inside-out demon hell but THIS SHIT IS JUST UNNATURAL"
[12:39 PM] Rook: oh, Keris
[12:39 PM] Aleph: "This is inhuman!"
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "... that word is starting to mean less."
[12:40 PM] Rook: lmao
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "Deveh may not be turning whole areas of land into crystal like Sasi was worried about, but he seems to be turning whole towns full of people into empty shells that serve the Hierarchy, which is arguably worse."
[12:40 PM] Rook: cut to the foreeest
[12:40 PM] Rook: and yes I lol'd
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "I know how to smash crystal! I can't punch people in the brain!"
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "Well I can."
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "But not metaphorically."
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "Yet."
[12:40 PM] Aleph: Ahahaha
[12:40 PM] Aleph: this is a fun bit
[12:40 PM] Aleph: : D

[12:41 PM] Aleph: when keris gets sad, she gets angry
[12:41 PM] Aleph: when keris gets angry, she acts on reflex
[12:42 PM] Aleph: when keris acts on reflex, she lashes out when surprised
[12:42 PM] Aleph: and in this case; bites a leopard's face off and does enough damage to OHK it
[12:42 PM] Rook: hands on the mooouth
[12:42 PM] Aleph: ...
[12:42 PM] Rook: ...
[12:42 PM] Rook: mouth on the hands

[12:43 PM] Aleph: ikr
[12:43 PM] Rook: hello echo mummy misses you too
[12:44 PM] Aleph: Hee
[12:44 PM] Aleph: Echo continues to get smarter and more talkative.
[12:44 PM] Aleph: And cheekier.
[12:44 PM] Aleph: It's interesting watching her progression, actually.
[12:45 PM] Rook: Poor Keris
[12:45 PM] Rook: She's being downright timid
[12:45 PM] Aleph: do mention what you're talking about, at least in general terms
[12:45 PM] Rook: "She's still uneasy as she makes her way into the city. And leaving the river means the cold hits her again like a knife. She's sodden and shivering by the time she arrives at Sasi's house, and so nervous that she actually uses the front door.
"
[12:45 PM] Aleph: or people reading the bleg don't know what you're referencing
[12:45 PM] Aleph: Mou~
[12:45 PM] Aleph: Yes, Keris usually considers doors to be for pansies.
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Cool people use windows.
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Or roofs.
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Or walls.
[12:46 PM] Rook: mouths all over oh lordy
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Yyyyyup
[12:46 PM] Rook: "She isn't going to forget the sight of her face splitting apart lengthways down the bridge of her nose to reveal a gaping maw with a long, prehensile tongue anytime soon, though not for lack of effort."
[12:46 PM] Rook: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Haha
[12:46 PM] Aleph: : 3
[12:46 PM] Aleph: :<>
[12:46 PM] Aleph: nom
[12:46 PM] Rook: You know what I want to see
[12:46 PM] Rook: I want to see a Metagaosian demon inspired by Kirby.
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Heh
[12:47 PM] Rook: It'd be funny :D
[12:47 PM] Aleph: Incidentally, do note
[12:47 PM] Rook: <ambulatory marshmellow demon>
[12:48 PM] Rook: and hee Dulmea hugs
[12:48 PM] Rook: eeee Rathan a cute
[12:48 PM] Rook: A CUTE
[12:48 PM] Aleph: Rathan's power of uguu~ is formidable indeed
[12:48 PM] Rook: " [...] one of the first things you ever said to me was that the Silent Wind came naturally to me. And her gifts seem natural, they're... they're things I did anyway, mostly. Running and fighting and stealing and stuff."
[12:49 PM] Rook: hm, so, incidentally
[12:49 PM] Rook: this is more or less what having a patron Yozi's about yes?(edited)
[12:49 PM] Aleph: Well... Keris was worryingly Adorjani even before Exalting. That's not necessarily standard.
[12:49 PM] Aleph: Sasi wasn't.
[12:49 PM] Aleph: Sasi was very much not Cecelynian before Exalting.
[12:49 PM] Rook: Aha.
[12:50 PM] Aleph: She used to be a calm, kind, devout satrap's wife who cared a lot about the peasantry and worried about the state of their souls and kept an Immaculate priest close and donated to charity a lot.
[12:50 PM] Aleph: Then she Exalted and found out she was an Anathema and tried to kill herself and failed
[12:50 PM] Aleph: and wound up dealing with it by deciding that it was right for demons to be in charge since they made the world
[12:51 PM] Aleph: and pushed her niceness down and got hard and mean and cynical.
[12:51 PM] Rook: I'm impressed, she's even more broken than Keris.
[12:51 PM] Aleph: Well, you will note
[12:51 PM] Aleph: Keris spends a lot of time with her souls
[12:51 PM] Aleph: Like
[12:51 PM] Rook: Yeah, a lot
[12:51 PM] Rook: She's basically a working mother.
[12:51 PM] Aleph: all the time she spends sleep-meditating and playing with them?
[12:51 PM] Aleph: That's the equivalent of an Immaculate monk's meditation on harmony and the balance of inner self.
[12:51 PM] Rook: Lemme guess- Sasi does none.
[12:52 PM] Aleph: She is incredibly stable and well-adjusted, even by Exalt standards, because she spends hours every day meditating and guiding her passions and working on inner balance.
[12:52 PM] Rook: "keris"
[12:52 PM] Rook: "stable and well-adjusted"
[12:52 PM] Aleph: Like, for all that Keris seems like a human disaster, if you had something that read "spiritual enlightenment", small-e?
[12:52 PM] Aleph: She would read as equivalent to those zen monks who spend all day meditating on peace and harmony.
[12:52 PM] Rook: jesus christ
[12:53 PM] Aleph: Sasi, on the other hand, is in charge of the entire Southwestern Reclamation, and thus doesn't have the time to devote to her own mental health.
[12:53 PM] Aleph: And is thus the other way around - she looks controlled and poised, but is a hot mess on the inside who has more Issues than Marvel and DC combined.
[12:53 PM] Rook: poor thing :(
[12:53 PM] Aleph: Mmm.
[12:53 PM] Rook: back to bleg... Keris is so very needy
[12:54 PM] Rook: poor thing
[12:54 PM] Rook: Dulmea is best daemonmum
[12:54 PM] Aleph: ^_^
[12:54 PM] Rook: eeee rathan tickle
[12:55 PM] Rook: Sasi!
[12:55 PM] Aleph: Speak of the demon-princess.
[12:55 PM] Aleph: :V
[12:55 PM] Aleph: Yeah, that leopard surprised Keris and she really overreacted. Bit its head off.
[12:55 PM] Aleph: : 3
[12:56 PM] Aleph: (I am terrible)
[12:56 PM] Rook: booooo
[12:56 PM] Aleph: bows
[12:56 PM] Rook: and now onto the high lands discussion
[12:57 PM] Rook: "Meldu is the Enforcer of Thought, the Warden Soul of the Arbitrator of Doctrine,"
[12:57 PM] Rook: hm
[12:57 PM] Rook: interesting(edited)
[12:57 PM] Rook: "We're against the Dragonblooded, aren't we?"
[12:57 PM] Rook: lol
[12:57 PM] Rook: Keris
[12:58 PM] Rook: "Well, we'd inform the other Unquestionable and risk being dragged into a proxy war - or worse, having to help him,"
[12:58 PM] Rook: nope
[12:58 PM] Rook: nopenopenope
[12:58 PM] Aleph: Heh
[12:59 PM] Rook: Sasi sighs. "Yes, no doubt he'll be running off to Unquestionable Iasestus to tell the respected one that I'm sending you to spy on him, or something."
"... you sort of did send me to spy on him, though," Keris points out, amused.
Sasi flaps her hand. "Details, details."
[12:59 PM] Rook: kek
[12:59 PM] Aleph: : D
[12:59 PM] Rook: heeeee
[12:59 PM] Rook: "some time later"
[12:59 PM] Rook: ohai echo
[1:01 PM] Rook: can keris resist the magic of THE POUTY ECHO
[1:01 PM] Aleph: Ah, yes
[1:01 PM] Aleph: this is interesting and important character development for her
[1:02 PM] Rook: aaaand shinies seem to do it
[1:02 PM] Aleph: Yeah, but that is a real thing for Echo.
[1:02 PM] Rook: echo glomp :D
[1:02 PM] Aleph: For a soul based around Keris's joy and whimsy, she does nonetheless sometimes get desperately unhappy with her nature.
[1:02 PM] Aleph: : (
[1:02 PM] Aleph: sad echo is sad
[1:03 PM] Aleph: needs hugs
[1:03 PM] Rook: "She's pretty sure Echo is intentionally posing for them every street or so, though." omg echo
[1:03 PM] Aleph: she totally is
[1:04 PM] Rook: lol

No Kerisgame this week, but in recompense I will give you a brief glimpse at a world that never was. A world where instead of tainted Solar shards, our heroes all got pure ones. Which meant that Zenith!Sasimana's first encounter with Night!Keris went... decidedly poorly for her, actually, because it was a rather similar situation to the Italian Job in some ways and Sasi only realised after they'd parted ways that:

a) The charming young scavenger-merchant had basically been using her as cover for a truly massive theft from the government Sasi was in the middle of doing politics with,
b) she'd swindled Sasi out of most of her local cash in the process, and
c) left Sasi in the ensuing chaos as several noble house scandals struck at once, though admittedly she didn't actually frame her or leave her in the lurch with the law bearing down.

Yeah. She pretty much lost that one, and Keris got away clean with $$$$. The second time they met, though, Sasi had done her homework. And laid some bait she knew Keris couldn't refuse. Which led to...
Eclipse!Rat: *walks into a swanky restored-Shogunate hotel suite*
Rat: "..."
Rat: *sighs*
Keris: *is kneeling on the floor with three Outcaste Dragonblooded holding swords to her throat, pouting sullenly*
Sasi: *is calmly and elegantly sitting in an armchair drinking tea and reading a pamphlet*
Rat: "... Kit. You idiot. I told'ya not to go off half-cocked this time."
Keris: "Firstly, shut up. Secondly..."
Sasi: *raises an eyebrow*
Keris: "... secondly, you suck at rescues."
Rat: "She already hired me. And won't be betraying me. We have a deal."
Keris: "You could'a told me that before!"
Rat: "Well I wasn't expecting you to try'n rob her! Dumbass!"
Sasi: "I was. If that helps."
Keris: "..."
Rat: "..."
Sasi: "I did my research after our last meeting. You're the pair who blackmailed the Tyrant of Osheni."
Rat: "... yes."
Sasi: "You also stole Resplendent Fire from the very hands of Cathak Karava and recovered the royal regalia of Thorns."
Keris: "Sounds like us."
Sasi: "And you were the ones who sold the Marble Warriors from the Tomb of Singing Blades to Lookshy without a single person seeing how you got them out of Nexus."
Keris: *grins*
Sasi: "I have a job for you. On the Blessed Isles."
Rat: "... who?"
Sasi: "House Nemone. The Nemone."
Rat: "..."
Keris: "..."
Rat: "No wa-"
Keris: *delighted* "We're in!"

Edit: It is possible that Night!Keris, as a sign that this universe is an impossible thing of the Beyond, Favours Travel. With a mastered Style based around "fast getaways".
