Ascensions and Transgressions: the Tales of Keris Dulmeadokht (Exalted game)

So back in Water we saw Keris on a high-stakes solo mission. Now who wants to see her lead, hmm? Well, for those of you that do, Early Wood 774 is going to make you very happy, because this time Keris is commanding her troops as she sets out to assault the Firepeak Pave, with a touching send-off from Lilunu and some extremely interesting discoveries as she makes her way south from the coast!

Oh, lord - Keris going full Ney is even more Ney than he is. I am entirely unsurprised that she managed to taunt a protective-of-her-people, polearm-wielding lady into attempting to beat her ass.

Minor typo, you described the youngest satrap as a pasty of his house, not a patsy. Although if he's pretty and has a hat with a tassel he can be a pasty too.

Also
She's not wrong. There's a tingle of moonlight on Keris's left arm - more than should coming from the actual mom, given its phase, now that she thinks about it

I adore this typo, by the by. Just the idea of Keris accidentally thinking of Luna as "mom" has hilarious implications. Even if it's completely non-canonical and in the face of everything that's been established.

Because clearly, Luna would take the "Cool and inspiring, if distant, older cousin," role given how Lunar Keris codes. :V

She's just getting into the role of a Moon-child.

Now who's poking fun like Ney does? Y'all are assholes who are mean in your teasing, hmmph. :mad2:

Anyways, typoes fixed. Interesting to see how much focus there is on Ishmala as opposed to the earlier parts of the chapter, both here and on the Discord. Granted, "Keris having cute scenes with Lilunu" has happened before, but the context and content of this one was something I thought might provoke more comment. And, well... the Lap. :evil2:

Hey, if Keris won't consciously acknowledge how much she wants Lilunu to dom her, why should the rest of us? :p

Five Calibrations Pass - Fire 774
Fire 774 centres on the Jade Carnation's successes at making a name for itself in between its secret (and hilariously illegal) cult rituals, and takes a trip back to the valley of Zen Daiwye for family drama and a present for Keris from Oula. And of course, there's the surprise waiting at the end of the season...

Aleph: Actually, heh. Little River drilled her silversmiths up to better dicepools a while back, didn't she? Yeah. Yeah, she put a Major action into pushing them up to Ability+Style 7, last Earth. Does that mean the Shining Foam silversmithy (and any associated child-smithies, furthering Little River's plan of keeping her mastered-off students in her orbit that she talked to Ba-le about) is doing well for itself and breaking even?
EarthScorpion: Hmm. So who does Little River have in charge of the management of it? Is it just hired mortals, or anything else?
Aleph: Uh, so... I think that actually might be Little Bird? She... yeah, she's a professional mediator, broker and the wife of a golden sail, she's been empowered by a pact-tattoo to learn spirit charms, and she's kind of Little River's assistant for the "Little River management" stuff that doesn't require her direct attention but which she owns. So, like, she doesn't run Little River's office or act as her personal aide like Rounen does, but the administration of Shining Foam and the gradual repairs to Silver Lotus are things that Little Bird is handling.
EarthScorpion: OK, roll me 7d10 + 2 for how well she manages, since she still has mostly mortal dicepools, but she has demon charm she learned mostly from - lol - dragon aides and hungry ones.
Aleph: lawl
Aleph: /r 7d10s7c10 +2 #LittleBirdManagement
Bot: Aleph rolled 6 <8; 7; 2; 8; 8; 6; 5> #LittleBirdManagement
Aleph: Respectably!
EarthScorpion: And yes, with that number of successes, she has actually done very very well and beaten out the mostly mortal run rival shops
Aleph: mwaa haa~
EarthScorpion: With the newly trained artisans and her handling things, Little River's stuff is becoming a hallmark for good quality
Aleph: ^_^
Aleph: Hmm. Can I say that the... let me just check quickly... yeah, the north wing of Silver Lotus - the one that had subsidence and cracks and sagging walls. Vali put a couple of actions into repairing the foundations and subsidence there, so can I have had Little Bird put work crews on the above-ground repairs over the past year or so to bring that wing back into a usable state?
Aleph: (Keris just gradually getting her nice big manor liveable, hee)
EarthScorpion: Uh, so that's basically mundane, but she can't put the same attention into it as she's overseeing the forge, so she delegated it to her cousin (who works in the same line)...
EarthScorpion: /r 6d10s7c10 #MundaneRepairWorkOverseeing
Bot: EarthScorpion rolled 5 <10; 4; 1; 7; 10; 2> #MundaneRepairWorkOverseeing
EarthScorpion: Oh yeah no so her cousin has done amazingly
Aleph: yesss
EarthScorpion: Hui Cha Pink Sunrise turns out to be nearly as capable as her cousin, but just hasn't had much of a chance before because she's always been at the lower end and was never really trusted with big projects before.
Aleph: oh Keris~
Aleph: More of that "taking something cheap and unused and turning it into something valuable" behaviour.
Aleph: Heh. Ba-le might mention that, then, since she's well aware of that trait of Little River and has been keeping an eye on how she's been fixing up that old manor she got cheap and throwing a few parties there in the now-repaired wings. : 3
EarthScorpion: /r 10d10s7c10+1 #GullsOnStage
Bot: EarthScorpion rolled 8 <5; 10; 4; 10; 9; 10; 6; 1; 4; 2> # GullsOnStage
Aleph: ... wow. Damn, mah gulls. U good at this~
EarthScorpion: I guess you get to describe what exactly Cinnamon has them doing, since you're better at that kind of thing than me and they rolled a ludicrous number of successes - the kind you might expect from a social-focussed DB entertainer who's really trying
Aleph: hee~
Aleph: Hmm. Yeah, so it's, heh, the kind of thing where there's a lot of rrrrelatively accurate historical plot if you have an interest in history, or you can just tune out and enjoy the pretty dances and songs. : P
Aleph: (It's also carefully calibrated to not offend a) the Realm, b) the remains of the BMS or c) the descendants of the people they conquered such as the Raraan Ge, by casting them all as brave and noble heroes of a bygone age.)
Aleph: And I can tap that series in future if need be as something that's Jade Carnation produced, but with "high-level mortal" dicepools, so it's not raw brilliance like the Scarlet Surrender Cycle.
Aleph: Hee. "Rather than one unified group, the Raraan Ge are instead a culture who can trace their roots back one of the lesser Dragonblooded empires who were destroyed by the Blue Monkey Shogunate. When their masters fell, the lesser lords and sworn warriors kept to their own lands and paid dues to the Blue Monkey Shogunate. As the Realm encircled that rival, the Raraan Ge drifted away from their control, never formally declaring independence but no longer paying their taxes or providing men to the bloody wars against the Third Scarlet."
Aleph: They're invested in the early plays for their ancestors' fierce wars against the rising BMS, and in the later ones for how their houses broke free as the BMS crumbled against the Realm. : P

Did Vali just end up in Aperture Science, hidden inside a Mesa, and subject to Testing?

He's going to be so happy!

Well, okay, actually the crew had mutinied and voted that he wasn't the captain anymore, and since he'd been voted off he'd had to respect that 'cause they'd said they didn't want to do what he said and he couldn't change that.

Pirate: *approaching Vali like a man walking to the gallows*

Pirate: "We, that is, the crew have all come together and held a vote on your competency as Captain of this vessel."

Vali: "Really? Did you guys vote that I'm the best captain you've ever had?"

Pirate: "No. We have, in fact, voted that you are not captain anymore."

Vali: "Awwww."

Vali: *Perking up*

Vali: "Hey, does this mean you'll be marooning me on a deserted island?"

Pirate: *Sensing a trap*

Pirate: "No, we'll drop you off at the next port."

Vali: "Okay, that works too."

*Later*

Vali: "Bye guys! Sorry being a pirate captain didn't work out! I'm gonna go be an explorer now!"

Pirate: "nani the fuck"

Vali considers this. "I'm an explorer," he says brightly. "I'm looking for stuff that's cool!"

"Which of the Primordial Titans do you serve?"

Ah ha. There, Vali's on firmer ground. "None of them," he says firmly. "They don't get to tell me what to do."

Crystal Mask: "nani the fuck"

"You are an intruder to the domain of Shaper Kalathais," the spider decides, just as he's starting to consider prodding it. "You will be taken to the testing pits and you will fight the war-creatures of the Shaper."

Vali nods. That seems perfectly sensible. "Okay, sure. Do I talk to your boss after that?"

The spider-creature tilts its head. "You are now a test subject of Shaper Kalathais." It tells him. "He will decide your fate."

Oh. So he's a prisoner. And they want to make him fight weird monsters.

Okay. He can work with that.

Vali: "Yes! Being an explorer was a great idea!"

You know, taking into account Hanily's personality and attributes... I can't help but wonder if she's going to find a way to keep the memory of her mother herself. And then promptly exalt as a... Twilight? Solar Exalted. And if she does that, I think a bunch of busybodies is going to start wondering what the hell AND heaven is up with that family...

Nah, what happens is that discovering her mom exalted as a Chosen of Secrets makes her exalt as a Chosen of Secrets too, depriving Ali of the knowledge that he ever had a family at all. Gotta go for maximum drama and angst.

Issue. Hanily has the trademark ash-grey eyes of Keris's paternal family. Not yellow, blue, red, green or purple, and therefore very likely not a destined Sidereal.

(It's one of the ways she's a somewhat creepily accurate little clone of what Keris looked like at the same age, right down to the small stature because of nutrition issues while she was in the womb.)
