Anderson Quest: Killing Vampires and Werewolves and Leprechauns (Hellsing/Bloodborne)

Huh. Just realized that Gehrman really likes Anderson (compared to the reception you get in the game). Must be because Anderson isn't using the blood but is able to hunt on par with a blooded Hunter?

That and Anderson is a Peer to Gehrman. For the first time in centuries, Gehrman isn't a teacher but a fellow (if retired) Hunter talking shop with another Hunter (that doesn't rely on the Blood).

It helps that both of them have a similar sense of humour.

An Inquisition (Let's Begin)
"The Hell d'ye mean by 'true' Hunters?" you ask.

"Trust me, it's not a slight on your abilities. By your description of what you fought, I've no doubt you are a terrific hunter in your own right. 'True' Hunters are those who have undergone a certain blood transfusion. I'm not privy to the details, but it allows them to gain strength from what they slay, absorbing the 'echoes' of its power to become more than human. In the past, they'd also sign a contract linking them to this Dream. When they'd fall, they'd wake again at a Lamp, as though from sleep.

"Wait, yer tellin' me ye've got a buncha immortal twats runnin' around gettin' stronger every time they kill somethin'? How the Protestant fuck are there still werewolves around?"

"A valid question," he laughs. "The contract has fallen out of fashion somewhat. Hunters would get too reliant on their inability to die and their skills would suffer as a result. Many of them also struggled to cope with the trauma of multiple deaths and willingly broke the contract as a result. You will still find those willing to sign it in this day and age, but they're mostly outsiders to Yharnam. The Church forbids it, after all."

You're getting very eager to have a chat with the Church. You're about to press him for more information about it, but there's something else bothering at you.

"So where do you stand in all of this?" you ask. "Who are you, exactly?"

Emotions wrestle for control of his face as he starts to answer, abruptly stops, and seems to struggle for a proper response. To anyone but you, it would have just looked like he was choosing his wording carefully.

But you're from the Catholic Church. You guys wrote the book on inquisiting.

Inquisitioning? You never really learned the proper conjugation for that, you realize.

"Just the caretaker of this place," he answers. "Someone to look after the Hunters who pass through."

"How long have you been here?"

"Who can say? It is a Dream, after all. But I have seen many generations of Hunters pass through this place. None quite like you."

"Now," he says, turning his chair with an air of finality, "I believe you said you had a Word to spread, Father?"

It's just a hook to get anderson to explain the plot of inception to a living doll.

Which makes as much sense as quoting boondocks saints to the heathen blood cultist
