Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 18: Ravaging Rapscallions Rapidly Regret Regular Rampages

But that's based on our relationship with the PRT, not the public, isn't it? It's not like the PRT going full turtle and ignoring civilian casualties is unprecedented, that's basically what happened in the Nine attack in canon. They sat back and let the Nine run rampant for days, so it's not unheard of. The PRT would understand our reasoning.

Sure, they'd throw us under the bus if it came to it, but in the end it's kind of only a matter of time until they have to do that anyway. How long before the public starts to notice that Endbringers actually are targetting us? The next attack? The one after? Sooner or later it's going to come out that having Weaver in your city is the Black Spot that signals your doom, and the PRT'll drop us like a live grenade, regardless of how much goodwill we've built up. They can't not.

Voting this because, despite what I said above, I'd really like to be wrong about us being willing to just overwrite people's brains and make them love us. I want to earn that respect, if we have a chance at that. I just hope we don't lose too many cool heroes because we weren't willing to do what it took.

We are sadly in a bad position.
First Jack.
He, on top of kidnapping and breaking our friends, has begun the whole "Dark God Autochton and his Dark Cult" with us as the main priestess schtick.
The same Autochton we need to bring over.
Our reputation is Autochton's reputation, at the moment. We need to do our utmost to show that he is not a Dark God - and saving civilians will help us a lot in achieving that.
Besides,
We have Lisa, our father, Saint, Coil and co, who just wait for us to act as a soulless robot, and/or to slam the court of opinion against us.
We hope to possibly recruit Lisa and Amy. Lisa mistrusts us extremely. She expects us to act as a machine. To win her over we have to show her she is wrong.
Would she oppose us, she could use her influence to get Amy, and possibly even Who against us.
And she could do it, Tattletale is good at such things.

And our father, who believes us dead, will have a harder time condemn a hero saving civilians then a hard soulless robot doing hard decisions.

Objectively, to neglect the civilians and do what is necessary would be the way to go.
It is a "win the battle, lose the war" scenario though. So we have not only to win, but to win the popular opinion at the same time. Otherwise Jack wins, even if we kill him.

I've been going over my plans for the S9 and their locations, and I realized I offered something that doesn't make sense considering a certain previously-unknown quirk of the Twins's pocket dimension (that the S9 have discovered, much to their own displeasure).

CAPTURING ONE OR BOTH OF THE TWINS WILL NOT YIELD ANY OF THE S9'S HEALERS.

Capture the Twins, you only get the Twins.
even with that change it's still worth rescuing both of the Twins right now, as it means that not only do we save two of our friends we also remove the S9's teleportation capabilities.

Even without the healers, rescuing the twins is worth it just to deny the Nine their teleportation capability. Biggest problem with those assholes is how good they are at guerrilla warfare; reducing their mobility needs to be a priority.

One last attempt, to make sure that our strategic interests are protected.

[X] Plan: Grind them Down
-[X] 4 points - Retrieve Uzu
-[X] 4 points - Retrieve Tatsu

-[X] 0.5 points - Breakdown

OK, again this plan does not focus on taking down Crawler despite the incentive that we can do so for reduced points. As for the reasoning behind who gets what points:

Case 53s: long term investment. Makes Marrow look good, shows Bulldozer that Marrow still looks out for her Case 53 brethren. Also ensures that we won't risk a huge headache further down the road when the natives get anxious and we don't have Bulldozer in our corner because he's dead or he doesn't trust us.

The Guild: Inquisition is a strategic-level cape, Narwhal is one of the most powerful tactical-level capes, and keeps Wyld in good mental health by ensuring her friends don't die. Points well spent.

Civilians: Long term PR play, with the added bonus of the satisfaction of denying Jack what he wants.

Wards: dead kids hurts our reputation. Plus Kid Win is pretty useful and Dennis is hilarious. Truly, he the rock that keeps us anchored by reminding us when we've stretched the limits of credulity ("Bullshit!").

And as for why no points on Crawler: we've got two Exalts with sufficient motivation to grind the S9 into dust, and if there's one thing the Exalted host is really, really good at it's killing things. Crawler is a distraction. A giant, scary distraction...but a distraction nevertheless. Don't let him distract us from our priorities.

Sorry for the error, but looking at the discussion this far it likely won't make a major difference. Either way, we still have time to talk and vote about it:
Meh, denying the Nine teleportation (which makes them a global threat) is still worth it.

Well that's a bit upsetting, but If I had to guess you can't really keep anything living there if neither of the Twins are there.

Of course, if that's the case then we have a perfect disposal method for Crawler.

another thing about capturing Crawler is we're only guaranteed to be able to hold him for 2-3 updates.

Eh. I though the Twins got us the healers because we could trip a reflext port to where they stashed them and steal them. [X] Plan: Defense Plan Omega MK3

Honestly, I'd just dispose of him. He's got a kill order on him and nobody would really care about us disposing of him.

I can think of a few things we could do to ensure we keep him held:
1. Dump him in the pocket dimension, if it's somehow lethal when the twins aren't there.
2. Have Wyld create a few organs in his body that create sedatives to keep him asleep. So long as the sedatives aren't damaging him, I don't think he'd adapt.
3. Have Wyld simply remove all of his accumulated biology from over the years.
4. Scan him, find his core, and have Legend destroy it.

Missing line break there. Wouldn't gel with the vote-counting script.

Have Miss Militia shoot him into the sun :V

1)Crawler, aside from Siberian, is the only member of the Nine who can actually face a small army in the open, without even needing to be sneaky. He's muscle, and pretty serious muscle. Removing him from play significantly limits the Nine's options, and makes it easier to kill the others.
2)Right now, there's a major discount on capturing him. 2 points to take out a guy who might qualify as a class-A threat all on his own? Worth it, and it's an opportunity.
So if you think removing him is that important, then drop a Twin.
Otherwise you are concentrating entirely too much effort on offense, and too little on defense.

My main quibble is that we should we might be better off spending 0.5 points on the Overleague, with 6 capes, rather than Breakdown, who only counts as one.
Still, this is a better idea than the rest.

[X] Plan: Grind them Down
Because the other plans break the cardinal rule: Greed is BAD in these situations.

Remember that, as Sun Tzu (I think) pointed out, Breakout's mere presence is enough to end Philly cape battles. Getting him on our side in one piece might help a lot and is well worth the minor investment.

"Well, except whenever Breakdown showed up, but everyone just sorta left him be afterwards. Usually a bad idea to pick a fight with a dude that tears reality apart with his bare hands, 'specially since he cleans up after himself pretty well."
Breakdown is a badass

[X] Plan: Grind them Down

Okay, this one is pretty exactly what I want, given all that other stuff.

And who knows, Marrow might well ping-damage Crawler down anyway. :3

Crawler has regen, and Vajra doesn't have Aggravated damage, so all Pings will do is make crawler want to fight her more(as the pings actually hurt).

Yeah, small quantities of ping doesn't help against Lunar bullshit regen and it's not going to help against Crawler bullshit regen either.

I'm leaning toward Grind Them Down...

Though I think I'll vote with a change from Breakdown to Overleague, keep the rest of the votes separate.

I wanted to remove at least one S9 member from the board, but if we're reducing casualties the way we are AND rescuing capes from the 9 this round I call that a win.

Jack's going to ramp up the lethality from now on, though. That goes hand in hand with saving civilians.

And we'll need to go on the offense at some point. Hopefully we'll get some reinforcements before we do.

think of each rescued cape that was being used against us before we rescued them as an S9 casualty, and that by removing teleportation from the S9 equation we boost our ability to go on the offensive.
