Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 18: Ravaging Rapscallions Rapidly Regret Regular Rampages

Note that Autochthonian Soulsteel is universally a leftover from the civilization that Autochthon deathstar'd before the Primordial War, which was attempting to enslave him with technology. They're still arguably cognizant and all (as much so as Underworld-derived soulsteel), but they aren't and never were human souls, the soulsteel was never made intentionally, and it's possible that nobody in Autochthonia aside from Autochthon and the Divine Ministers actually knows how to make soulsteel from scratch. Souls are a valuable resource there anyway.

Also, Po souls can actually be 'people' in a sense - animals in Creation (and in Autochthonia, though those are basically all rats) have a soul-structure that consists of a Po and nothing else, and they can be altered to have Intelligence and Social stats of appreciable levels without somehow 'gaining' a Hun.
Really, Autochtonian Soulsteel is sort of a byproduct of devoured Grey souls mixed with what is basically Autochton's poop under high pressure.

I'm curious, did Iris's mental status change color?

Forging the S9 into soulsteel appliances is a go? or no go?

edit: FPoP has a Ramming Speed specialization available xD.

No go. Even if we did want to, and they do have forgable souls, we don't have the know-how needed to do so. (Iris might, because when Autocthon turned the Greys into Soulsteel, he likely went "what in Creation is this stuff?", and experimented with it.)

I suppose Contessa might be responsible for the A/B situation although it doesn't fit with their interlude. Sending clones or brainwashing them seems rather too complicated for a 9 plot though.

Maybe they've been turned into bonesaw plague bombs?
Or the PRT swapped them with Miss Milita and Armsmaster because there's an S-Class event happening. Both aren't excactly in the right headspace for that at the moment.
While Armsmaster as a Tinker is valuable to counter the S9 Tinkers. Miss Millita is an effective combatant, if squishy.

The last thing we saw about A&B was their powers fading in their bed in their interlude it doesn't make sense to end an interlude like that and then have the answer to where they've gone just be " Oh they woke up fine and then the PRT transferred them."

Oh, right that got canonized. Forgot about that.

We tried to initiate talks with Lisa while we were throwing around high-level anima effects and with no IAT+LSM. She's gonna have a bad time, and be very unreceptive to any attempts to communicate beyond the bare minimum necessary at that point. This is not new information, and was compounded by lots of other stuff going on that we aren't aware of ICly. So yes, we did work and 'talk' with her for nearly two hours, but it was purely on a 'business' level.
Thank you for settling that.
So when this is over? Long talk.
But not before.
Assault and Battery showed up at the Brockton Bay Refugee Camp already - it's why Armsmaster and Miss Militia were easily transferred over. They are safe and sound... well, as safe and sound as you can be in a refugee camp.

[PARANOIA INTENSIFIES]
How?
Last check Hatchet Face was within range of their house.
Nor would Susan or Ethan have left Philadelphia without so much as a "See you soon" to the BB Wards, or the lady who hosted them to dinner the night before.

Are we sure those are not zombied imposters?
Bonesaw did the imposter thing to Parian's people in canon, altering their looks to resemble S9 members and turning them loose.
This requires a call to Piggot to check who she has in camp with her.

Or if we had a teleporter available, a quick trip to run a scan.

Taylor was busy hugging Who to her armored chest to avoid having Who get sliced by the Siberian or pummeled by the trees she was flying through at the end there. That first interaction was the first time Taylor had 'relaxed' her grip to allow Who to see anything other than the detail work on her armor.
Fair enough.
I'd have thought she'd have felt the physical impact through Taylor's armor, but not a big deal.

Philadelphia is going to have lots and lots and lots of similar, permanent effects all around the city by the time this is all over. Jack wanted Artistic Bombs, Bakuda loved the challenge.

http://www.visitphilly.com/
Just gives the Philly Tourism Board more stuff to pimp.
Especially if we manage a clean sweep of the Nine here.
Shielded Amy from getting sun-bombed.
Ah.
It's going to take a long, long time for Philly to recover from this, I expect, and this was pretty much the death-knell for Camden.
Someone's gonna make mad bank from reconstruction; Philly's too big to fail.
The only way it would be abandoned would be an Endbringer attack.
I guess we now have some idea how Fortress Construction is going to come back into our lives.
Toybox too; Big Rig has stuff that should be good at this.

I do rather doubt that Camden is going to be written off; as a 50k city and capital of a 500k county, that is unlikely in the main, barring total destruction.
What is more likely is that various interest groups*cough*FBI/PRT/Dragon*cough*will seize the opportunity to make permanent changes to the sociopolitical situation that made it such a hellhole.
Oh, and it's PRT office is probably becoming a Philly PRT sub-department.

Come to think about it, I can see the feds deciding to solve two problems with one move:
Fund reconstruction of Camden/Philly, and incentivise the remaining BB refugees to move to Camden.
Jack, Mannequin, Burnscar, and Crawler were all at the prison. Mannequin dealt with the security, Jack tried to get some normal inmates to trigger but failed, Burnscar herded people around, and Crawler gave an ultimatum to all the powered inmates: if they could hurt him, he'd let them run. If they couldn't, they died. Jack has a Twin Backpack and got everyone out when Marrow and Legend showed up - Marrow was kept busy by Crawler - and the prison is pretty much utterly destroyed.
So that's where Marrow's Dodge training came from!
This is the more likely event - mass exodus of Philly.
Yup.
10 miles or so is walking distance, and pre-positioning of relief supplies means the US Army/National Guard/FEMA/PRT should be able to deal.
People with chronic disabilities are kinda fucked though.
We shall see, but Willow volunteered to come with Bulldozer.
Huh.
Now I'm curious.
She heard a report of the Boulder Builders being attacked. Penny followed.
*sigh*
Fucking teenagers.
It's like they're too stupid to smell a trap when they see one; one would think that even Earth Bet would be aware of horror movie tropes by now.
Never split the party.

I guess either Gallant or Clockblocker is acting second in command at the moment.
Bakuda has a Kill Order just like Bonesaw. "If you can neutralize their contingencies, kill them. Otherwise, lock them down so we can disable the contingencies and then kill them."
Uh.
This really is one of those cases where you do not want to trust the judgement of the field operative, or so it would seem to me.

Lisa's shard effectively datamines reality for what's already 'known', but sometimes gives her junk data as a way to challenge/mess with her. The first time we talked with her, there was absolutely zero information in the Nowhereverse about us, Autobot, our powers, etc. However, each time we talk about that information or more people see it, the greater chance Lisa's shard can supply her with data about it. Why the shard appears to be actively antagonistic towards us is something yet to be revealed. (Yes, this means that Lisa's shard was pulling data about the Endbringers in canon from somewhere, likely the Endbringers or shards themselves.)
Oh, that one's easy.

If it IS connected to the local shard LAN network, it has taken a good hard look at QA and possibly Marrow!Shard as well as the data from Chevalier!Shard, and decided it wants none of that sort of makeover.
Hence it's attempts to make damn sure it's human is not inclined to change.

I suspect that's also a factor with Chevalier's reaction to seeing Auto-kun's image, and Autobot's reaction to him looking; Autobot is looking at the shard, not the human, hence the disdain.
Besides, I do suspect they're programmed to hide their presence, and view people close to determining the secret...poorly.
As for Jack releasing that info to the public? No. Not yet.
Eye spy with my little eye~
It would be just like him to try and fuck us at the optimally annoying moment.
Without IAT+LSM, bug swarms still give her headaches - check our classroom convo again to see how that played out.
Yes, they CAN reach that far. However, not only is that in ideal situations (weather, terrain, buildings), but it means that the few remaining towers outside the main Philly/Camden area would be hammered by the overflow from all the other towers going down and brought down that way.
Fair points.

POINT OF ORDER: ALCHEMICALS ARE IMMUNE TO MUNDANE DISEASES, NOT POISONS. Yes, real-life poisons and toxic chemicals rely on chemical processes in the human body to do anything, but this is a case of BULLSHIT ROBOT MAGIC working against us. Oh well.
Immune to mundane diseases as attack vectors, but not poisons.
Check.
*looks at Exalted poison rules*
Hmm. Yozi Venom is 10A/min, Toxicity 5.
Our Stamina+Resistance is 9, which should mean avg 5 successes.
Might need more Resistance to be safe, especially with tinkertech flying around.

We did just save Wyld (and her entire team) from getting abducted by Bonesaw and/or eaten by Siberian. So there's some benefit of the doubt going there.
Point of order:
This is the second time we have been directly responsible for saving the lives of Sabah, Amy and Lisa.
First time was when we went dumpster-diving in Noelle's guts to pull them all out.
Any more and we have to start passing out frequent flyer cards.

And in case I forgot to mention it earlier:
I really did enjoy the brief Aisha/Alex byplay.
I think that Soulsteel itself is reprehensible. We kinda just gloss over it or ignore it, but the fact is that every second, hundreds of people (not all of whom may deserve it) are suffering in our skin. Autocthon is not a good person, and there's a fair argument to not letting him enter Nowhereverse because he'll keep making soulsteel. Oblivion would be better than an eternity of torment. The people of Creation certainly thought so.
Autobot deathstar'd a race that were trying to kill/enslave him for no better reason than to get better stuff.
A race he sponsored, and was very fond of.
And when he caught them, the text says they didn't even attempt to beg.
Darwin Award nominees right there.

And as far as I can tell, there was no intent to create soulsteel; the things came about due to an accidental combination with his waste.
If he could create more souls casually to forge into soulsteel while asleep, Autochtonia would not be running short on souls.

Second, no one commented on Uriel being badass. Dude knows he's fucked, and rather than try to unfuck himself, he is doing the best he can until he croaks. This is the guy some of you were seriously contemplating on finding a way to assassinate.
That's his job, so to speak.
People criticise the PRT all they wish, and the organization does have it's fair amount of politics, but no one can say that one of their Directors has abandoned his duty post due to an on-going S-class event.
Not in canon.

So there's something I wanted to clarify. An Exalted basically has Autochthon as their #1 priority because of reasons, so what happens if we exalt someone by force?
Wrong.
See: Apostate.
Exalts have free will, so what happens is that you get an Exalt who is actively hostile to you.
And that's assuming Autobot agrees to convert her in the first place.

In regards to the end of Assault and Battery's interlude, there is the possibility that it was a red herring. Hatchet Face may have simply passed by their house without realizing it.

[Grasping at straws intensifies]

Just a couple of thoughts, on things that haven't really been addressed, or were addressed, but in a manner that was unsatisfying for me. No, not on the update; Grom hears chapter and verse of that from me, I mean from you people on the update!

First, people have focused on how A& B should not have been able to be suddenly in BB crater, freeing up AM and MM. You should stop focusing on 'this shouldn't happen because of reasons', and focus more on the question 'how is it possible?'.

Second, no one commented on Uriel being badass. Dude knows he's fucked, and rather than try to unfuck himself, he is doing the best he can until he croaks. This is the guy some of you were seriously contemplating on finding a way to assassinate.

Anything else, well, Gromweld already addressed that.
People suggested assassinating him? Weird.

As for A&B:

-Cauldron bailed them out ahead of time since Battery still owes them a favor

- Bonesaw created look-a-likes with some sort of bomb emplacement from Bakuda

- Red herring.

Mhm, because he wasn't letting EOA do all the things. He dared treat EOA as a Ward and not, you know, as his personal confidant, or let EOA do everything she wanted because she is on a mission from GodAutobot.
I'm pretty sure that was just one guy, with maybe 2 more who want to use bureaucratic leverage on him, out of our 10-20 regular posters and 60 odd voters.

*shrugs* Possibly. Can't remember. it has been, admittedly, a bit.

It was basically the whole: he's an obstructionist and he needs to be removed because he's not giving us free rein to do whatever we want! We're important and our work is important. He should know this and give us what we want because we're a pretty pretty princessbullshit magical robot.

You should know how people on a Mission from the local equivalent of God are like.
:V

This. The Grey's had it coming, and their idea of trying to enslave Autochthon with technology was a particularly inspired bit of stupidity on their part.

Souls in Autochthonia, which are finite in number, are too valuable to be wasted on Soulsteel.
The leaders and the people who actually worked on the project, maybe. But it was an entire race, I find it hilariously unlikely that every last one of them, from the beggars to the newborn infants, to the working class schmucks were all in on it.

I don't.
Not in Creation and it's environs, which has a history of being....odd.
I find it particularly suggestive that not a single member of their species lived outside one of their cities.
And that no one apparently begged for their lives even when caught at it.

Besides, point of order:
How do you know there were beggars or newborn infants?
Look at the Mountain Folk, for example.

Excellent purchase, as doing better on social investigation rolls means that we can figure out what people want and what is/are their motivation/intimacies/current emotional state.

Adds to our dice pool for tracking down the Nine. Buy it now.

Buy it. No questions asked.
Agreed, but we're short on XP, and the Omake well isn't refilling that fast, so others are going to need to step up to help get enough XP to buy it, and the Dodge purchase we'll probably be getting next update.

We 'do' have enought o get her as a one dot Ally, which should give her basic protection until we get enough.

I'd also suggest getting Resistance.

it's the same thing as if they were all wiped out because their leaders launched a preemptive nuclear strike and were taken out by a retaliatory second strike.
