edit: oh, looks like I was a bit slow this time.

So, it looks like wander wins. Does anyone object to the plan to get water? Just in case, I will leave it open, for about an hour.

They are fish, actually, but you gave me ideas.

Some people don't like giving the GM ideas. I do, because I'm a jerk like that.

Some people don't like spiders (Like J.R.R. Tolkien; He's arachnophobic, so his Great Old Ones* aren't squid, they're spiders, digging and gnawing at the base of the world). I like spiders just as much as I like fire; I don't want it eating me, but they're both very nice and/or useful in pretty much all other ways.

Here's hoping that we like Sushi! Also that they aren't some kind of blowfish, because those have neurotoxins. And that we can make friends with the Giant Spiders! Because Spiders are born knowing how to weave and make elaborate traps, and the big ones can be really fuzzy, so they have pretty much all the traits needed to be the friends of a grief stricken little girl on a vengeance quest! :D

*Video is of a siphonophore (Yes, that's a real thing. Commence not-ever-going-swimming-again mode), and the one shown is 150 meters long. Yeah. If it weren't for the fact that they're strictly deep-sea dwellers, I'd be quite willing to build giant robots to go fight them, as long as they were remote controlled.

Fighting Fish
You wander once more, just walking along the forest. You realize that your waterskin is running a bit low though, and you shoot an ice bolt into a tree, taking care to make sure that the end closest you is pointing downwards, and hold a fireball near it so that it melts. You hold your water skin up to the tree, catching the water running off of the ice bolt. It is difficult doing this with a fireball in your other hand, but you manage.

It soon looks like all this is pointless, though, when you come across a river a couple of hours later. The river is slow moving and an opaque turquoise color. You go over to the river and start to bend over to look at more closely. But, before you can, a ball of water come shooting at you. You dodge it, and it hits the ground instead, causing the dirt to fly up and leaving a crater. You are glad it didn't hit you.

You look back towards the river, and realize that you were being shot at by a fish. Specifically, a green fish with sparkling scales about three feet long. Then, two more fish surface right behind you. You could just run away, of course, and since they are fish, they probably won't be able to follow you if you flee, but they could hit you in the back with one of those high powered water balls.

[] Fight
-[] Plan?
[] Flee
-[] To keep wandering
-[] Write in

OCC: After this fight (or the next update, if you mange to flee), there will be a vote on how long you want to stay.

[X] Spam Nova Glacium into the river. Freeze as much of the water as you can. Aim for the fish, but also cut off its means of attacking you. Freezing the river will at least block off its ability to hit you.

Questions? How are the fish behind us? Is there a curve in the river or something? And why are we drinking from an opaque stream? If it's not clear enough for us to see through it, it probably isn't good for drinking...

Because you turned to look at the waterball that missed you. Also, you lack any sort of wilderness survival skills beyond subconscious wolfish instincts.
There's survival skills, and then there's common sense. Drinking something like water filled with enough stuff to make it hard to see through, when we have a guaranteed source of clear water? Not common sense. I was under the impression that we were uneducated, not an idiot...

Remember, you know nothing about how diseases work, so why would anything be wrong with it?

Microbes =/= mud. We have no clue about microbes. This does not mean that we want to drink mud. Mud tastes terrible. We have enhanced senses, so, to us, it probably tastes even worse. So we have terrible tasting water, and pure water that doesn't taste bad. Why would we take the former, when we have infinite access to the later?:jackiechan:

Mud is brownish, not green, so why would a green river be filled with mud? (IC reasoning) Also, the process of making more water is time consuming and difficult and you haven't tried the water to know it tastes bad.
I give up. It's mind control water. We have enhanced senses, and humans already do most of our tasting through smelling, so we'd be able to tell. I'm going to guess that it's related to the Unicorn pond, too.

Let's just finish up with killing and eating these fish, and then collecting their pretty, pretty scales for decoration or sale.

Sorry that excuse won't fly here. (WEAK) Alcohol was preferred to water in many societies because people knew there was a connection between disease and bad water even if they didn't know how it worked.
It's when coffee came along as a safe, non drunken alternative to wine that we had all those technological revolutions...

I assume we have had water of various purities in our life as a peasant. In general, we should be able to tell that the less clear the water is, the grosser it is.

I was wondering what Ice-ing a pond or other large body of water would do, how much would freeze per bolt and what-not. Now we are a excuse to know.

Well, we'll still be drinking from it later on, now that we know that my nightmares magical aquatic lifeforms live in it...

Oh.

OH.

Of course! The reason everything is freaking deadly in this forest is that it's in the water! Obviously we need to drink it! Even though it doesn't look that healthy without counting all of the magical properties it has displayed...

And don't forget to dodge, people. We have more maneuverability than these things.

Point of note: Cedra is still in the river, she should probably get out of the water before going crazy with ice bolts.
