A Villain In A World Of Heroes

The argument here is that, if you scale down regeneration far enough, it would protect against suffocation by itself, as an extension of the "Healing using magic as fuel instead of nutrients" component of it, by just supplying those nutrients to the cells, because by reforming limbs it has shown that it can generate large amounts of those nutrients out of pure magic, so why wouldn't it be able to generate very small amounts of nutrients to feed the cells?

The Elk would probably never test it out, sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to find one pinned under a boulder at the bottom of a lake somewhere, just watching the fish go by, eternally bored. It'd be hilarious if, as a brick joke, there's a water level ten chapters from now and we find an Elk Lord just laying on the bottom of the pond next to the underwater entrance.

The ability is this:

Assuming that close means 60-80%, yes we could "regenerate" the nutrients fast enough.

Limbs within Minutes. Assuming ten minutes for the Elk and, let's say 20-30 for us, and assuming that not using oxygen requires 10X nutrients because it's anaerobic cellular respiration, then we'd need to create enough nutrients for ten meals for every meal that the oxygen would be unlocking. So, if a whole chicken could take us an entire twelve hours, and a limb takes us half an hour at the most to regrow (Going off of worst case estimates here), and, because we're presumably a thin little girl, it takes two limbs to equal a chicken, that means that one limb could provide us the nutrients for 36 minutes. (6 X 60 = 360. 360/10 = 36)

It takes us 20-30ish minutes to regen a limb, and 36 to require the same amount of nutrients for feeding our cells, so unless the ability's utility was misrepresented, We don't technically need to breathe, although it will drastically slow our regeneration. Of course, we don't know this, but it's a nice ability.

That is completely ignoring the role of oxygen in cells. Oxygen is not a nutrient(as described above) for the fueling of the cell. The nutrients come from food and drink.

Oxygen is used during cellular respiration along with the nutrients you gain from eating/drinking, to create Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP). Cellular Respiration, both aerobic and anaerobic create waste products that make the blood more acidic. Without Oxygen (O2) there is no efficient means of ATP production. 38 ATP per cycle per cell becomes 2, and the amount of cells capable of performing anaerobic respiration is significantly lower as well. The anaerobic respiration creates lactic acid and ethanol as byproducts alongside the Carbon Dioxide that is already created by ATP production. Without the exchange of CO2 and O2 in the lungs, the blood becomes increasing acidic.

With no ATP all of the muscles in your body, including your Heart, will stop functioning. It doesn't matter how many nutrients your cells have, or whether they get magically regenerated after the building Carbonic Acid in your blood damages them. Your heart and brain stop functioning due to lack of ATP needed to facilitate Active Transport across cell membranes, and lack of ATP needed for the muscles to contract and relax.

In short: The nutrients do not come from the oxygen, they are used with the oxygen. No oxygen = death. The only way regen stops that is if the regeneration creates O2 and flushes CO2 or flushes CO2 and creates ATP from nothing.

Stop telling us things we didn't know! We were getting away with it!

...darn bodily waste, ruining so many nice things...

Alright, I THINK this wins, can't update now, but doing the rolls so I can get started on it as soon as I can.

[X] Experiment near the edge of the forest.
-[X] How much force can we exert with our bolts?
-[X]Do we lose control of them when we stab something, or when we let go of it?
-[X]What activates it's freezing component?
-[X]Can we make two bolts parallel to each other and place wooden planks perpendicular to the bolts to make a flying raft thingy?
-[X] Can we grab the bolts without hurting ourselves (This is a valid thing because we have regeneration)?
-[X] Can we make them needle thin?
-[X] Can we make them really thick?
-[X]How much can we make them lift, or does touching something make us lose control over it?
-[X] How many can we control at one time?
-[X]How's our raw magical power coming along, now that we've eaten two magical creatures (I mean things like the wordless telekinesis)?
-[X] Test holding our breath to see if regeneration helps with that.
-[X] Test advanced senses. Can we hear anything rustling around in the silent woods that we couldn't before?
-[X] How much physically stronger are we now? Try picking up rocks and stuff and throwing them as fast as we can to get a sense for the difference.
[X] Make sure to keep watch as you do this. Advanced senses only work if you use them, after all.

Edit: You don't make it to experimentation.

Welp. If we don't get the drop on whatever this is, we're going to be learning about our regeneration through the tried and true method of combat testing.

Here's hoping that we at least hear it coming with our Wolfy-ness.

Edit: 'Parently not.

Yikes, those are some horrible rolls.
@Dark Ness is there a consistent basis of High = good for us, or does the goodness/badness of a high roll change depending on what the roll is for?

At least we managed to hurt whatever it is in the end. We may not have killed it, but we at least made it pay for that arm it took. Even though we're gonna get it back...

EDIT: Also, if we kill it, I vote we eat its heart.

Relevant quote from a series I've never watched-
Let those who accept their fate find happiness. To those who defy it- GLORY!

Dammit people. I think you failed to ask a very important question. What stories has Cedra heard about the Trial of Blood? Given that it has given us the power to eat and absorb the hearts of monsters, it is obvious that the Trial is some sort of Ancient Ritual. Ancient Rituals have conditions, which we should be able to infer from the stories told about it. It is very likely that once we fall outside these conditions we will loose our ability to eat hearts and gain power from it.

The big question is how long it works. Does stopping at the edge of the forest already count as "Abandoning the Trial of Blood"? We just don't know. Does sleeping?

I really want to make our Trial of Blood a legendary one, to get as much as we can out of this. Dozens of Magical Creatures, if at all possible.

There's more than one path to power. I say we use this as our foundation, but keep an eye out for others as well.

Hilarious, considering the circumstances. It also explains how they got initiative; They're basically the ninjas of the magical wolf world.
Still, we totally jobbed this fight. Nobody inspects The Inquisition! Dire wolves!

Edit: And because you pretty much planned out the fight without any input from us, I'm just going to include a contingency in every non-combat post that has a chance of us getting attacked about what to do if we get into a fight with what. It will quickly get ridiculously large, because I'll add onto it every time we encounter a new enemy. Mwuahahaha.

So basically, individual threat level lower than what we've faced, but we've got more of them to deal with. Awesome. Nothing useful to be gained from their hearts, however. The pelts could be useful, though, and the flesh could help keep the hunger down.

How many are we dealing with (that we can tell are there), and how many have we already taken down?
