A Villain In A World Of Heroes

5 different plans with 1 vote each
This is freaking hilarious. talk about splitting the vote

oh, oops

can I vote for a base plan in the same post in which I create it? also, this should be specifically mentioned in the instructions on the github wiki that you need to vote for your own baseplan and can make more than one.

Note: This is also not an appropriate use of a base plan. A base plan is a group of proposed lines that other voters are expected to add on to. In other words, a common core component of a larger vote
Uh, I did not realize that this was the purpose of base plans.
Alright, to start with I went and edited the plan in question so that it is now "proper"

Yes, you can vote for the plan you create, when you create it. Just add X's.

Major Actions: Choose One

[X] Buy some magic books and learn more spells, or maybe even something else. Then, take some time to practice what you learned.
-[x] prestidigitation and subtable mind magic
QM asked you to clarify what you mean by prestidigitation, and that if you meant dnd's "cast every non combat cantrip with a single spell" than there is no such spell. Do you wish to revise your post in light of that?
I am willing to abandon my vote and switch to yours if you fix it to be looking for a valid spellbook. (although I would recommend it be something to do with warding)

Um, Arkatekt has two votes now. Just saying.
2 out of five. not only is it still a minority, its just "the first guy who noticed there is a 5 way tie switched his vote", so the QM is rightly not automatically going with it and instead giving people a chance to consolidate their votes properly.

You know, we really could use nettally's ranking voting algorithm here.

I did put an X in, it didn't work because it was a base plan instead of a regular plan, base plans work different
To create one you need to put
[] base plan name
with an X
to vote for it you then need to also put down
[] plan name
with an X. I am asking if the second part can be in the same post, probably not when i think about it. And it is also not the problem way to vote for it. The proper way would be to use it for modular votes only.

[] base plan wizard
-[] insert stat selection for a wizard build
[] base plan fighter
-[] insert stat selection for a fighter build

and then the vote is
[] plan wizard
[] male
[] refuse the offer.

Yeah, I've been going over the wiki to fix up out-of-date stuff, and add in missing details.

Yes, you can vote for a base plan in the same post that you create a base plan. As soon as you start a top-level vote line that doesn't start with "Base plan", that's assumed to be the beginning of your 'real' vote.

Uh, I did not realize that this was the purpose of base plans.
Alright, to start with I went and edited the plan in question so that it is now "proper"
It's not that it's the 'purpose', it's just that it doesn't make sense to use them if you're not making use of them that way.

For example, for this vote, you're allowed one major action and two minor actions. Your base plan contained one major action and two minor actions. A base plan is designed so that it can be incorporated into a larger vote, but in this case you can't make a larger vote than that because you've already used up all your available actions. As such, you have a standard full proposal that doesn't need the use of a base plan.

Nothing? No new votes and no arguments for anyone's vote. I would like to update today or tomorrow, but...

(Well, maybe not today, since it is the birthday of a member of my family.)

[X] plan privacy
[X] Buy some magic books and learn more spells, or maybe even something else. Then, take some time to practice what you learned.
-[X] Write in topics: Warding, in particular we need wards that ensure our privacy (silence, muggles don't see this, alarm, and anti scrying come to mind), wards that protect against evil supernatural (eg: demons). Also see if there is a spell designed specifically to harm demons (like, a bolt of light type spell). Also, a spell for tracking / divining a target's location would be welcome. (note however, that for best results we should not study all those books at once. Start out with privacy wards only this turn; just check to see if the other books are available and their costs)
[X] Write in: Locate a hideout where you could construct a lair to perform your less savory experiments in, but don't actually do anything unsavory yet (we need to ward it first so that muggles can't find it)
[X] Ask around the brothel about the hero, where he went, what he is doing, who he slept with, try to get any information you can. The longer you leave this option, the less results you will get.

Don't appear too interested, but heroes tend to be the talk of the town, considering that they're basically demigods, so he's bound to have heard something, and with us being away for a while we'd want to catch up on the gossip (this assumes that we know the shopkeeper only barely; just enough for him to know our name, or less. If he's more aware of any of our habits, don't include anything that would make our questions stand out from how they'd have been worded before our father died).
[X] Train your base magical ability, which mainly involves lifting pebbles. But, you can lift more then one now, isn't that great?

Arkatekt's sub-action under his major action could be considered a minor action (it's similar to asking around the brothel), so I'm not sure if it would conflict with the other specified minor actions.

It's allowed, there would just be a large penalty to the roll, since they aren't devoting an actual action to it, and only asking one person.

Also, @edmantgoog, can you please clarify what you mean by prestidigitation? I have said this before, but if you are referring to the D&D spell, it isn't available.

Also curious as to what "subtable" mind magic is. Not sure if it's "subtle", "suitable", or if there is in fact a subtable for mind magic he's referring to.

Well, if it's combined with "subtle" mind magic, he may be referring to a variety of spell effects that may collectively be considered prestidigitation — that is, stage magic. Minor magical effects such as changing the look on the face of the card (or piece of paper that might look like money), swap the location of a small object, read surface thoughts, etc.

In that case, it wouldn't be "a" spell, any more than mrttao's Warding research is "a" spell. Still, won't know for sure until he answers.

I'll go ahead and put in my own vote:

[X][Major action] Buy some books and educate yourself. You may not have gone to school, but that doesn't mean you can't learn.
-[X] Anatomy: Human and Non-Magical Beasts; History
[X][Minor action] Examine the book you got in the temple, hopefully you will learn something from it.
[X][Minor action] Ask around the brothel about the hero, where he went, what he is doing, who he slept with, try to get any information you can. The longer you leave this option, the less results you will get.

Asking about the hero for obvious reasons.

Need to train magic, and we have three options: learn new spells; train base ability; or read the book from the temple. Given the nature of the book, it could conceivably provide info for either of the two other options (ie: learn new spells, or learn how to properly train your magic). I'm hoping for more info on the latter — learning how to properly train her magic skill, rather than haphazardly messing with pebbles. If it turns out to be nothing but new spells to learn... oh well. At least learning new basic (non-combat, hopefully) spells will give more options to practice in a variety of circumstances, which is almost as good.

That leaves the major action as either physical training, or education. Physical training will be needed at some point, but I think education will better complement working on magic. Plus, she just got done with a couple days of strenuous physical activity; need to give the body a bit of time to rest, first.

I know that Dark Ness has said that her education is severely lacking, but I'm not sure if there are any assumed basics. Can she read and write? Can she read and write beyond the most trivial levels? Could she understand what's written in an anatomy textbook? I'm thinking just better understanding of things in general will be more important at the moment, though I'll toss in the anatomy texts, given that there should be enough pictures to still be useful regardless of her literacy.

Also tossing in History as a practical test of reading skills, while also being generally useful.

Yes to all. There are books that would be difficult for her to read, but the PC is going to choose books she is capable of reading. For example, she isn't going to choose an anatomy book filled with words like amygdaloid and no definition for them. Instead she will choose books that are written in (close to) plain language.

OK, dropping that part of it, then. Will still leave the History option, though.

Nope. There was NO anatomy books that were written in plain language, so you couldn't really understand them. You spent the time after the brothel trying to decipher them instead of training, because you lost track of time

Edit: I just accaccidentally deleted my draft, so this update may be late.

Boo.

Well, next action option, I'll probably go back for basically the same thing I had before, except keep the reading/writing textbooks to improve her literacy skills. And obviously we really do need to get some tips on how to train magic, which hopefully the temple book will have info on.
