"Thanks again for getting all that stuff for me. It's been such a pain without..." Dawn said as we made our way across Thunder Bluff from the market with the packs of herbs.
I quickly interrupted her however, "I'll make due without the details, Thank you very much."
The plan was for me to help her with the brewing. Not only would I learn stuff, very useful stuff, but we should be able to finish more potions in less time working together.
Never mind that if it turned out it was actually physical properties that did it, not magic... I could make a dead fortune on getting a potion analyzed if I get it to a civilized world. That would be one kind of tech I wouldn't mind selling to pretty much any civilization I would run across.
I was carrying several large packs of potion ingredients, mostly for healing potions.
Dawn rolled her eyes playfully, "Men."
I simply shook my head as we moved past a group of Orcs, "By the way, I was meaning to speak to you about this war thing."
"Oh?" Dawn asked as she stopped to look at me, "Not going to try to talk me out of it, will you? Because I promised Master Cloudsong."
I nodded as I stopped and turned to face her, "Yes, I know that and it is not it. We need to get you some proper armor."
Dawn blinked and looked down at her chest, "What's wrong with this?"
"Well, for one thing I have seen swimsuits that are more covering." I said, shifting my heavy bags to my left hand before poking her bare stomach with my right index finger, "Face it, You are arrow bait like this. Not to mention sword, axe, spell, fire and hammer bait as well."
She rolled her eyes, "Oh come on! You're wearing a normal cloth shirt!"
I nodded, "Yes and I intend to find me something more protective before we roll out."
Dawn shook her head with a frown, "My current armor is perfectly functional."
"The hell it is." I said, giving her another poke, causing her to step back, "You would be dead in ten minutes and then I need to deal with your sister for not keeping you safe. She would have my head for it, so you need some proper armor, no matter how good you think what you have looks."
Dawn smiled at me and then put put her own package of herbs down, "Ok then. Hit me."
"What?" I asked, frowning back.
She nodded "Hit me. In the stomach. Go on."
"I'm not going to hit you!" I exclaimed. What the hell was she thinking?
"My armor is perfectly functional! I'll prove it. Hit me."
Now I was curious. Dawn was not stupid... but her stomach was completely uncovered by her so called armor.
I gave her a curious look and then quickly made a fist and jabbed her in the stomach.
And just as quickly I regretted doing so as it felt like I just punched a tree trunk.
"
Ow! Son of a bi..." I started, shaking my hand as she giggled at me.
Yeah, I should have known better than that. She looked way to sure of herself, but I just had to go try it.
I channeled a bit of white mana into my hand to make it stop hurting, "Ok, how did you do that?" I asked, dropping the rest of the herbs so I could rub my hand.
She grinned, "My armor is enchanted, dofus! Anything dangerous, it tries to stop. Anything not dangerous, such as a simple touch like your poke, it lets through."
"You know, that kind of thing would have been nice to know." I grumbled, picking my packs of herbs back up, causing her to grin.
"Almost all but the most basic armor around here is enchanted. Cloth, leather, chain and even plate. All of it." Dawn said as she took my hand, looking it over.
"I'm fine." I said, taking my hand back. Even without healing it, it would have barely been bruised. Not like I actually put much force into the punch.
Dawn nodded, "I asked my master about it back when he wanted me to pick out a set. As for heavier armor like plate... well, what kind of material depend on what kind of enchantments it can handle. Plate is good for protection and strength, cloth is the best when you handle magic. Leather is a good middle ground."
I raised my eyebrow at that, "Wouldn't it be better with more material to enchant?" I asked.
Ok, that explained exactly how it could protect her, but wouldn't it be stronger with... well, more of it?
She shook her head, "How much actual material there is don't matter that much. Actually, the better quality enchantment, the less material is needed."
I just sighed and shrugged, "I withdraw my objection?"
Damn. I need to get my hands on that kind of armor. Well... not exactly that kind, I doubt it would fit me very well.
Dawn shook her head and picked her stuff back up with a smile, "Besides, the material matters less than the enchantment. This leather has enchantments that give not only better protection than a full set of plate armor would at home, but it also makes it easier to contact and channel the elements."
"How expensive is a set of armor?" I asked as we continued our walk back to her teachers place.
She shrugged, "Quite a bit and mine are hardly the best quality around. You should see the best ones available. They are amazing."
"Well, I guess I have a week or so to try to afford one. I have some gold coins left from Westeros." I said as I shook my head, trying to forget that they have a snowflake on one side of them. I think that that was Rob Stark's revenge against me for making him King, "Perhaps they will be enough."
Dawn nodded, "If you help me with the potions, I might be able to talk Master Cloudsong into paying you a bit for the work. But as you see, I do not require new armor. Besides, as you said... This looks really good." she said as she grinned back at me over her shoulder.
"That's not what I said!"
