"Dawn! Down!" I yelled as I spotted a shape between the green clouds, even though I knew she could barely hear me. Ravens may not have engines, but they needed to fly at a distance to stay safe and then there was the wind.
As we approached Shadowmoon Valley, the clouds had started to gather. They were green... the color of Fel magic.
They didn't look healthy... it would have been stealthier to stay in the clouds, but due to their color, neither of us wanted to fly into them.
That did, however, mean that other things could possibly hide in the clouds. Like now, just after we reached land.
I ordered the ravens to fold their wings in to quickly fly close to the deck instead and Dawn screamed. As we fell like a pair of bricks, a pair of dark purple dragons with half see-thru wings dove at us, barely missing because we had changed direction.
I clung to the saddle and unhooked from it before I pushed away from the raven, spreading wings of fire to rise up to meet the dragons.
Casting spells at moving targets while moving through the air... hard.
I don't have any spells that are instantly line of sight. Which meant getting closer.
Throwing myself to the side to avoid a blast of flame, I returned with my own flameslash, cutting the right wing of the closest one. As it flashed past me towards the ground I went after the second one with a white binding spell.
I need to figure out how to use line of sight spells without travel time.
Quickly looking around I folded my own wings, diving after the ravens as they spread their wings, leveling out just above the ground, starting to follow the shapes of the landscape.
Landing in the saddle of a flying raven was something I had only tried once before. It is very tricky, I understand why the Germans gave up launching biplanes from zeppelins during WW1.
I dropped back into the saddle and canceled my wings, looking over at Dawn. She was almost laying on her raven, clinging to the bird for dear life, her face pressed against the feathers.
Oh boy, I'm going to be in trouble later.

"You... utter... bastard!" Dawn growled as she dropped off her raven in when we reached the army camp at the southern end of Shadowmoon Valley.
"I'm sorry, but there were dragons... I couldn't let them take on the ravens, fighting them on the birds would have been almost impossible. I tried to warn you!" I tried to explain as she advanced on me "You know I would never let you get hurt, Dawnie."
"Don't call me that!" she hissed and then she turned, storming off.
I let out a frustrated sigh and shook my head. Yeah, I could have handled that better.
"You are the one called Winter?" a human guard dressed in Stormwind colors asked as he walked up to me.
I blinked, slightly surprised to see a human. It was only when I entered the camp proper that I found out that this camp was like the one on the other side of the portal, it was a mix of alliance and horde.
"That's me." I answered him "What is this about?"
He shrugged "I don't know, we just have standing orders to tell you to report to Warleader Splittusk as soon as you come back."
I raised my eyebrow at that "Very well. Command tent, I assume?"
The guard nodded "Center of camp. You might wish to delay for a small while though, they are having a war council."
"Good. I want to see them all anyway. This save time." I answered before I turned and walked into and through the camp in search for my destination.
I'm going to end this war. It was really their business, not mine. I can not run around the multiverse, trying to fix everyone's problems.
As sad as it is or as much as I might want to, if I try, I will quickly go nuts. Just because I might be able to save someone if I am in the right place at the right time, it doesn't mean that I have to.
The only reason I am even still on this world is because of Dawn.
To keep my girl safe.
This final fight...
When we were in Thrallamar, we were behind heavy defenses and could easily withdraw to The Dark Portal if we were overrun. Sure, we could Walk here, but Dawn would never do it if it meant leaving people behind.
And honestly, I wouldn't like it much either.
Which meant that to keep Dawn safe, I would need to end this war and win the coming battle... and that means getting the very competent people running this show to listen to me and not get in the way.
Time to act like like what I am, not matter how much I dislike it.
