Wasn't the bandit problem at Stormhaven caused by the nobles fleecing the craftsmen of the pay they owed them?
Yes, which was in turn ultimately caused by Onyxia's meddling, IIRC. While it's not just one quest chain (meaning you don't *have* to start with the Defias part of it), the trail of breadcrumbs didn't end until Blackwings Lair. A similar trail of breadcrumbs for Dwarves ends up in the Molten Core (again IIRC), and there's one for Night Elves that ends up in Ahn Qiraj. I don't know how things look on the Horde side, though.

Honestly, it might be kinda fun for Dawn and Hiver to go through Deadmines...

I can just see the Defias Brotherhood running like mad from a pack of giant growthed, flame winged Varren.

Plus, he could get the ability to summon those ships, by accident!

Actually, now that I think about it, there are basically a plethora of books on magic and tinkering down there, since the Defias are basically running their own Engineering and Magical academies... It could be a VERY useful dungeon crawl for them from an educational perspective.

Hiver, at some point if/when you come back to this story Winter and Dawn have to go to the Jurassic Park 'verse. Then we can have T-Rex summons and with a little black mana we can steal a certain idea from Dresden Files ...

I may just be a bit bitter about slivers at the moment. My Dimir deck got taken apart by a well put together Sliver deck at my last Friday Night Magic.

An ARM or CORE Commander would probably be beyond the ability of Hiver to ever summon. If he had difficulty dredging up enough of the right mana just to summon up a couple copies of his gun, he's probably never going to have enough to manage something as advanced (and massive, they're on the order of 60+ meters tall, each) as a TA Commander. Plus there is the question of how, exactly, he'd get one in the first place. Those aren't exactly safe things to approach after all. The odds of showing up anywhere near one and then actually *surviving* long enough to even approach it are astronomically low. Remember this is the same setting where the *tier 1 mooks* are firing weaponized space-time and have entire tanks whose armor is, literally, one giant atom thanks to tensor-fields holding them together.

If Winter ever walked onto a world with a Commander, and actually recognized it for what it was (or even just recognized some of it's units that are under it's control) the smarts thing he could do is run the fuck away and never ever look back. Even attempting to get a comparatively much "safer" Commander from Supreme Commander would be a near suicidal effort. These are the same guys that depopulate entire planets on their own and that regularly blast planets down to the bedrock. If I had to pin them at a "power level" I'd put them just below things like the Eldrazi, and the *only* reason they're below those is that they generally don't destroy entire planes of existence. That said, the Galactic Implosion Device would like to have a word with you on that matter ...
Oh, yeah. Forgot that he had trouble summoning his *gun*. Though, Commanders are only ~20 Metres tall as far as I remember. PeeWees are 10 metres tall, and Krogoths are ~120? Something like that.

Of course, if you want to be a jerk, there are artifacts out there that are -not- legendary ones (which means there are multiple copies) that can allow you to get downright brutal.

Dragon Arch anyone?
Hiver planeswalker are even more nerfed than Neowalkers. The only thing they have going for them is the biological immortality that comes free of charge.

And the point of your post was...what....in response to mine?
Hiver probably won't be able to summon that card even if he had all the time in the world to try to claim it. Listing good cards for him to look after, or giving ideas on how to make him stop sucking so much are useless.

A battle, no, but there are commanders on non-contested planets, either building them up, garrison duty, or preparing to deploy that he could possibly get too.

Though he might have more luck getting an engineer on one of the uncontested minor supply worlds away from the front.

Could it be that the real issue with summoning the gun isn't the Mana cost, it's the "Understanding" part? Something about the spirit of a living thing versus the designed purpose of an artificial object?

Quick! Hiver, try creating a rock! And some bread! And a t-shirt! And a musket! We need to establish baselines in order to conduct our experiments - FOR SCIENCE!

He should find the Aberrant 'verse, and learn their bio-toys (eufiber, microbe that fixes the atmosphere, metal sequestering plants, etc).

Maybe a couple of the Novas who like exploring and maybe have regen (thus, the copies would be happy to be created in new lands, and quickly replace materials, particularly given the metabolism boost) or already pull a cloning schtick.

Then tap the Novas for colorless mana :p

Other than the attack of the idiot squad, the rest of the journey was spent in relative peace. Sadly we were unable to get rid of them before we reached Darkshire, but at least they didn't cause any problems, even at night.

Somehow a Varren parked next to each of them while we slept kept them from getting any ideas.

The rest of the journey was easy enough, just a couple of run ins with the local wildlife. I'm thinking that my girlfriend might actually be developing a case of arachnophobia.

To be fair though, I am hardly fond of the damn things anyway.

"There it is." Dawn finally commented as The Dark Portal rose into view as Mr. Fluffsy climbed the last hill, giving us a view over the army camp in the crater around it.

"Yeah...joy." I said with a sigh, causing her to give me a smile over her shoulder.

"It's not all bad," She said " We'll be able to get into an actual bed again" and her smile took on a playful hint.

I blinked and then grinned "I like the way you think..."

No such luck.

When we finally arrived in Thrallamar, we found out that there was no time to rest there.

"Say that again?" I asked the green troll left in charge of the fortress camp. I never did catch his name.

"The armies are forming up in Shadowmoon Valley for the final assault on The Black Temple. If you take a windrider, you might get there in time to heal the wounded after the battle," he said.

How the flying hell did they push the legion back all the way to the last zone in four months?

Dawn gave me a worried look "How long will it take by windrider?" She asked him, "We need to get there before it starts!"

"I'm sorry, mon." The troll answered her "It takes at least a day to fly there, even following the edge of the world."

I frowned "What if you fly across the Void?" I asked him "I have seen a map of this place, Shadowmoon Valley is across the void next to Hellfire."

He shook his head "Windriders won't fly across the void."

"Then we get different mounts," I said before I turned to Dawn. "We better get ready. Repack everything we need into bags. Nothing to much, we need to travel fast."

She quickly nodded and ran back to the Kodo.

I sighed and looked after her for a moment before walking over to the windmaster. I needed some saddles.

Damn. If we had been a couple of days or weeks later, it would have been over already. It might be selfish, but I would have preferred it.

It would mean Dawn was not going into danger again.

But if I dragged my heels, she would find out and she would be mad as a bee at me and not in the sexy way either.

She would never forgive me, especially if Cloudsong got his arse killed.

Which meant doing my best to get us there in time....and then to do my best to End the battle and if possible, this war as fast as possible.

So much for relative anonymity.

"I need two windrider saddles." I told the old orc that was the Thrallamar windmaster.

He frowned "What for, human?"

"Because I have alternate mounts that will be able to get us to the site of the battle, hopefully before it breaks out." I answered him.

The Orc looked hesitant "You two are healers?" he then asked.

I nodded.

"Good. I have a couple of old saddles. They need to be changed to fit a different kind of mount. Go get the mounts, I'll go get the leatherworker." He then said before turning to walk through the camp, leaving me to look after him for a moment.

Shaking my head I turned to walk and find somewhere out of sight of anyone where I could summon and enlarge a couple of ravens.

I could have used the Firewings spell, but that would leave us unable to bring any stuff and make us tired by the end. You do need to think about flying and if you don't...well, you don't.

Which meant flying mounts and the ravens was the most practical alternative.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get there in time.

AN// It is thanks to ntwayneK that this part is betaed :)

Didn't the first group to manage that questline finish in a handful of weeks of nonstop gameplay or something?

That, or there's just one 'hero' with no level cap. You can solo your way through Black Temple easily with a 90 (tank at least)
