A Naruto Mook Quest [The Gamer/Naruto]

Just plans for the future. We either need to powerlevel Observe enough to see Mizuki's treachery, meta in the idea to investigate and make it a quest, or trust Naruto enough to keep a promise and help him grind Wis. If we go for the third option and maybe the second we should tell the Hokage since in the first case Naruto might see his Jinchūriki status and in the second because we'd need to report to him anything we find and he'd want to know how we got it.

Why not just let naruto get things done right like he does in canon? honestly, rather than derailing canon I would rather MC just do his own thing

It's already too late! Now both Naruto and Hinata have a friend in the academy and are already much closer than in canon. Plus Naruto's our friend and it would be IC to both help him and to investigate the trustworthiness of someone teaching the next generation of ninja.

We're not in the position to do either at the moment, we're still catching up. I say its better to not get out of our way and risk mucking everything up. Support can be more covert than that.

Just by virtue of the party system we're in a position to do the first. I'm pretty sure that with his insane chakra levels it'd be physically impossible to learn the basic Bunshin before graduation without gamey help even if we do somehow get him to train without obvious growth from the stat-ups.
EDIT: Which now that I think about it Sarutobi should have realized what with being one of the best sensors in the world.

Here's how chakra works for someone that's not using The Gamer system.

They mold chakra by combining physical and spiritual energy, then use the seals to shake that raw chakra into jutsu. If you know the handseals but don't know the nature transformation, the jutsu will cost far more than otherwise should.

There are two ways to fail a jutsu: not molding enough chakra for the jutsu and not converting all chakra to jutsu.

The "Naruto have too much chakra" fanon works more or less like this in this quest: while Naruto molds a shitton of chakra, due to the huge amounts he have to work with and his poor control/concentration, he' unable to convert all that chakra into jutsu.

That's why almost all his jutsus have a disproportionate amount of smoke coming from them, and it's why more or less how he can master the Rasengan so easily compared with other jutsu: all he have to do is to move the raw chakra in the right way for the jutsu to work.

Well in that case it sounds like regular training would help. We should get on that at least. Naruto may never be a genjutsu master but may Armok feast upon my soul if we're going to let a friend fail.

Basic training helps but well it was never intended to teach someone with that much power control. what really helped him with control is Sage mode .

You really need to work on not giving out oaths like that for things you don't have a total say in, you know. They might just take it seriously.

It's cool. I'm buddies with Armok. Plus I was very unspecific. I could choose not to let any given friend fail at any given task.
Actually, since you weren't specific, you're in deeper trouble. If you had said a specific person, then you'd only have to worry about them, but letting any friend fail would count as "letting a friend fail".

Try to get the oath rescinded, because you're screwed otherwise. :I

Final Year - Month 1 - Survival Exercise 3
"Let's go with Shino plan for now. We can always hunt for the other scrolls later."

Ino grumbled for a moment before nodding, and you three went to your hiding spots where you could all find each other relatively easy and signal in case someone approached. Afterwards you three waited.

You made sure to watch the place intently for any intruders or movements, occasionally looking at your two team mates before returning to your task at hand.

Through a special action the skill [Observe] has been learned!
Observe (Active) (Level 1) [0/10]

The ability to observe and gather information from your surroundings.
More information is gathered with higher skill level.

You blink and look at your new skill. It is active, but doesn't cost chakra at all which is weird. Deciding to test it out a little while everything is calm you look at one of your traps.

Snare Trap
A trap made with rope that snares and catches targets by their limbs, usually their legs.

Not much information true, but according to the skill more information will be gained as you level up the skill. You're tempted to train a bit this skill, but refrain from doing so right at this point. You can't really afford to distract yourself, and with this resolution in mind you get back to watching the place.

~~O~~

"Well, that was a bust", you finally say after a few hours of wait, "guess most other teams had the same idea and the others who didn't where too far away from our position."

"I knew we should have pursued the other teams already", Ino let be know her displeasure, "now they are too entrenched to go after."

"Other teams might had the same idea as you", defended Shino his option, "and there would be no guarantees we could have used the kill zone if we went hunting early in the exercise."

Better to diffuse the situation now before it gets too bad. "Both sides had merit, and while we lost the initiative we still have a good position to defend. Though may I suggest if we vote on what to now that lunch time is nearing. We didn't had time to pack any food, and I think only a few teams had brought bento for this exercise, which means soon the other teams will start foraging and hunting. A very good time to take others by surprise and with Shino's bug we can have the advantage of surprise."

Through good decision making your WIS has increased by 1!

"That's not a bad idea to be honest, though it will basically become a game of chicken to see who start hunting first. Too soon and they are caught by other teams, too late and they might get too weak for the later portion of the test", nodded Ino while adding her two cents, "we could also try to catch them while they are cooking or eating."

"What about you Shino?" You turned to your silent team mate and he looked pensive for a moment.

"As stated before, both options have it's merit and I don't favor one over another."

"Well..."

[ ]Try to catch the other teams foraging and hunting
-[ ]Immediately
-[ ]Wait for a bit
-[ ]Wait longer
[ ]Try to catch them while they are cooking or eating
[ ]You might have another plan?

I was wondering if you guys want to keep this pace and do the highlights of the year or if you want to rush past to canon.

The pros of going with the highlights of the year is better interaction with everyone and perhaps more chances to make skills before canon starts, while the cons is that you will spend too much time on the academy before canon events start.

Highlights of the year, please. More character development that way...

[X]Try to catch them while they are cooking or eating
-[X]Then steal their scroll and their food

The best time would be while they are asleep, or right after a battle, but this would also be good...

Whichever method will get us more skill and stat points. So probably highlights.
