Welcome all to a new quest by yours truly! For those fans of Stark Quest and Arryn Quest, don't worry. Those quests are still going forward, and I have PLANZ for both. This quest is to help me break writer's block, and to attempt a more focused quest.

This Quest will be a bit of an experiment, since it will start out with a pre-validated whitelist. The 25 players below will be the only players allowed to vote, at least to start out.

@Droman @Zooboss @Vesvius @Chengar Qordath @Van Ropen @Charcolt @Sidhenlae @Brandark @Bizuneh @HastyGaming @Diller @Enjou @Unelemental @Caesar @Camiadus @EliudFS1 @hmmbot @Probellum @andy50 @Cteatus @Kaioo @Jean Danjou @Cxjenious @CeBrudras @Yonatan

This list is just the initial whitelist. I feel like I might have left a few people off, so if you want to join in on the fun, please let me know. I will consider any requests. If you are new to my quests, feel free to make ~5 solid posts in this thread, and then PM me for inclusion on the whitelist. Should you be on the whitelist, and unable to put much time in, don't worry. Being inactive will not lose a position on the list. Feel free to drop in and vote whenever you can.

Further Clarification:
Basically, all you have to do to qualify for voting privilege in the quest is to make 5 quality posts in the thread, then PM me, and I'll get back to you. Quality posts preferably demonstrate an ability to argue a point without resorting to strawmen, undue aggression, and other crappy debating tactics, or they just show a genuine interest in the quest. Basically, the whitelist is to prevent players who shitpost from joining, and to keep the crappy situation where random voters are called in to buoy a vote from occurring.

Once you are granted voting privileges, your vote counts as much as the next player's does and it's up to you to debate/campaign/whatever to sway other voters. If a dude like Van Ropen is persuasive enough to get folks to vote for him, then so be it.

Due to the smaller voting base, updates may be more frequent than normal. Of course, the fun we're having will influence this, but my prior quests will still take priority. At least initially.

Now on to the show!

Who will you be? Keep in mind you will be molding the character as we play through.
[] Samwell Tarly
[] Jaime Lannister
[] Loras Tyrell
[] Olyvar Martell
[] Bronn
[] Write-in (GM veto may be in effect. Keep it in Westeros. Keep it around canon characters.)

What level magic will be present in this quest?
[] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
[] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.)
[] High magic (Crank it up to eleven.)

WorldState
[] Non-random Seed (canon except where the PC changes things, people are born same year, gender, etc)
[] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Questing Information

AP: 7

Character Traits
Trickster's Heir- You are not the most cunning nor the cleverest of your siblings. By nature you are a straightforward lad, but you do seek to emulate your famous ancestor, Lann the Clever. You approach problems with an open mind to find the desired solution.

Combat- Even as a child, you show flashes of the warrior you will become. You often find yourself watching the guards and knights, and then trying to crudely imitate their movements and techniques alongside Gerold. You make slow progress, and many mistakes, but never the same ones twice.

Geography- You learn of Westeros and the lands beyond. Father gifts you with a great number of maps which you assiduously study. Soon, you know the area around Casterly Rock very well indeed.

Warcraft- Tactics and strategy intrigue you. It's all very complicated, but your young mind is fertile ground for the maester and even your father's lessons. Your tutors are pleased at your progress.

Leader of the Pride- Where you lead your younger brothers follow. Cersei resists your leadership, but she's a girl... You stand taller, speak more assertively when trying to get others to do what you want.

Neophyte Negotiator- You seek out a middle ground whenever possible, attempting to find a solution that works best for everyone involved. You've also become a bit more politically capable after arranging a marriage between Houses Lannister and Tarly you scamp!

Curious Cub- The world around you is full of mysteries to be uncovered and questions to be answered. You want to find out as much as you can.

So many choices. I need to think this over a bit but I'll start with an initial pick.

[X] Jaime Lannister
[X] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.)
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Jaime should be fun to develop. An interesting family, present in all major time periods, and an AU means we won't always know what's going on.

Samwell could also be fun. One dead uncle and he's the heir to Brightwater Keep (and Highgarden according to King Stannis). Plus he's betrothed to Desmera Redwyne so no waifuing I'd hope.

And Olyvar Martell would be a Dorne quest which is new. We could have Arthur Dayne as our squire.

Jaime is great, so much potential and nixes any ideas of Waifu-ing Cersei because of the Incest thing.

[X] Bronn
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)
[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)

Bronn is the closest to the starting from the bottom quest I've wanted to play, so he gets my vote. Plus, we haven't been a sellsword yet. Alternate verse because I want things to be a bit different, and Lower then canon because let's focus on Southland murder politics. More poisoned wine, less ice zombies.

Tentatively,

[X] Olyvar Martell
[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Still haven't gotten my Dorne quest, AU to throw everything into disarray. Still thinking about magic, but am I reading this right? No Others? Cause that would be grand.

Ooh, interesting. I guess I can't vote, but I'll follow along since the format is interesting and a smaller voter pool might mean that this one will be harder to fall behind on. Some of these ASOIAF quests have dozens of discussion pages per update. >_>

[] Bronn
So we can go to wherever we want and not be dependent on things like 'family' and 'social norms.' Besides, do you guys really want to worry about the peasants back in our home fief?
[X] Jaime
Charcolt is awesome. That is my reasoning.
[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
If we need magic to make things interesting we're doing something wrong. And yes I mean the players not the GM. And I dislike special snowflake magic users.
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)
Limits ooc knowledge and lets us explore a new world. This is my default preference for quests

[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
[X] Non-random Seed (canon except where the PC changes things, people are born same year, gender, etc)

Always liked Sam. As Charcolt said he is engaged to Desmera Redwyne. His father has a valyrian steel sword that will eventually be ours to use in the future. In a world of no magic, valyrian steel would be the closest thing there is.

I don't mind playing as Jaime, but I choose Samwell. Should Jaime win, well... no big lose there.

[X] Olyvar Martell
[X] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.)
[X] Non-random Seed (canon except where Jaime changes things, people are born same year, gender, etc)

I want my Martell quest already damnit. Plus, it gives us the opportunity to explore the most egalitarian of the Seven Kingdoms, potentially interesting as a writer for @Mazrick to do. The low level of magic is still one of the most enjoyable things about Westeros in my opinion. Is it magic? Is it sleight of hand? Is it just a shadow on the wall and the real trick is right behind me? I'd like to explore a more, subtle version of magic than is usually presented in these quests, and I have faith he could do it well.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for the non-random seed just because Olyvar himself would cause butterflies enough if he survives his infancy. The independence of the Dornish means it would be trivial for us to say...form a mercenary company in Essos, maybe starting in Qohor. (I want to go to Qohor damnit.) From there on? Who knows. Just vague plans fermenting in my mind.

Anyways, I'm fine with almost whatever eventually wins.

[X] Olyvar Martell
It was a tight race between Olyvar and Sam for me - an OC Sam has incredible potential and would have the man touted as one of the best commanders in Westeros as his dad and a be heir to a Valyrian steel sword and powerful fief. Olyvar, on the other hand, would let us explore Dorne for once and have Oberyn as our honest-to-god brother. Also, Arthur Dayne. If it looks like Sam has better chance of winning, I'll probably flip.

What level magic will be present in this quest?
[X] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.)

Something of note for people voting no magic because of Others:
Mazrick: Sidhenlae: Mazrick can we please, please, please have a Others - Yes/No vote as well? | Sure, unless no magic is chosen

WorldState
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Butterflies to make metagaming obsolete? Yes, please.

[X] Jaime Lannister
[X] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Oooh baby, finally Jaime Lannister Quest can return!

Hmm as I cannot vote im going to throw out some suggestions on who we could be

Mance ryader
Jeor morment
Grandpa morment
Benjen stark

Lots of interesting characters to choose from.

[X] Jaime Lannister
[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
[X] Non-random Seed (canon except where the PC changes things, people are born same year, gender, etc)

Would like to see a Sam quest because it explores the reach but Jamie is too good to pass up. LP of the richest land? Get.

No magic because i think the Others/shadow babies were stupid. And i hate the idea of having to prepare to survive an apocalypse while playing politics/fighting and other more interesting things.

Non-random seed because part of the appeal of playing an asioaf quest for me is dealing with the events that happen in canon and how we affect them through our actions. AU means the GM has to write a whole bunch of OCs, which i don't particularly like. Plus i don't want people to be butterflied away.

3 arguments for high magic:
1. Shinies!
2. Enhanced personal protection against most threats, allows for more convoluted & risky shenanigans that SVers enjoy attempting.
3. Tourney hax for money.

4 arguments for nearly no magic:
1. May expand the number of characters that players find "interesting". Previous high-magic Mazrick quests have sometimes faced tendencies to focus only on those who have magic.
2. There seem to be more quests that have canon-level or high magic.
3. Dem Others.
4. It'll be more consequence-free for the protagonist to taunt and troll Melisandre.

[X] Jaime Lannister
[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)

Jaime is awesome and the most likely to be heavily involved in Westerosi politics. No magic means greater focus on what first drew me to the series: people being absolute bastards to one another. I'm completely ambivalent on the world state but the coin flip came up tails so AU it is.

[X] Bronn
[X] Canon-level (You know the drill. Warging. Others. Shadowbabies.)

[X] Non-random Seed (canon except where the PC changesthings, people are born same year, gender, etc)

Bronn is awesome. Canon is easier to keep track of.

Voting to have magic does not mean we have Other-Pocalypse. Mazrick has confirmed that if we choose to have magic, we'll get another vote on whether we want Others or not.

[X] Jaime Lannister
A fascinating man, had the best character development in-series, a master swordsman with a very interesting family. Jaime also had some of the best moments in series, and I love Nikolaj as him. I also dream of using him to explore the world beyond the Wall from an southerner perspective. He is too high to be ignored, but it also have it's drawbacks, duty will be a major burden to us on this quest.

[X] Lower than canon (Essentially no magic. That bullshit's dead!)
Magic in ASOIAF always felt too incongruent with the world, it doesn't mix well in my opinion. Fantastic beasts? Yes please. Warging? Eeeeeh, it just either feels cheap or useless. It just feel like a crutch that SV keeps insisting on, no matter what.

[X] Alternate Universe (Your birth causes a wide range of butterflies, such as people being born different years, different gender, etc)
It will limit metagaming, even unconscious, and add a new spice on things. Also, I really liked the butterflies

Another point for voting for Canon levels of magic: In Canon, magic isn't really...too spread out. it's there, but not by much and we can choose to focus on it or not. Where as if we pick no magic, we no longer have the option. It also turns this from an ASOIAF Quest to for me to generic medieval quest #271.

If the level of magic is turned up then someone from Essos might be a good choice as well. Playing the Tattered Prince sounds interesting for example.
Mazrick does not want to play as someone from essos. He wants a character who will interact with most of the canon cast, of which Essos has very, very few.
