A Lion's Pride (Closed Quest / ASOIAF)

Vote Bronn guys!

The only reason for a Jamie Quest would be to spurn Cersei and see Stannis on the throne. Wait, that could be fun...where was I? Ah yes, vote Bronn!

Joking aside, I'd be stoked for a common folk quest. Looking forward to this either way though.

AzureKing, there's a Whitelist of people who can vote, and I'm sad to say you're not on it. Not to say you won't be able to later, but Mazrick would have to approve you after people on the whitelist supported you joining.

So you're saying Mazrick might not be able to spin what GRRM has given us to make it fit a bit better?

No. I'm saying that the ones who will decide to use it will be us, and those who want to use it have to convince me it's worth it. Mazrick will do a great job as usual it doesn't mean he will take a path that I want, and those who decide the path are the players, aka, us.

So you'd rather completely cut out the option to begin with? Doesn't make sense to me. Just putting magic at canon levels will not make us magic oriented. Not by default. By not going with canon levels, it means no dragons, or direwolves. Do you want Ghost to be shunted into non-existence? Do you?!

If so, i should call PETA :(

Honestly, I myself don't want Magic!Jaime. I want magic to be there for us to find more plots, and storylines and characters of intrigue To make things more interesting for us.

@Probellum I'm on my phone so I'll fix it tomorrow when I have my computer. Otherwise you'll have to count it by hand.

Edit: nevermind

Votes will normally remain open until all voters on the whitelist have voted, once there is a strong majority, or once 24 hours has passed. This vote won't be closed for ~11 hours.

Also, I'm glad to see my new project getting such a warm reception.:D

Also, if we go with Canon Levels of magic, and go with Jaime, maybe Cersei can be the Witch/Mage to our Knight? She could pick up a couple thing from Maggy The Frog, like Divination, or even possibly Elemental Control for fire. Hell, Glamours would be useful to the extreme.

Or she could hear prophecy, thats bound to be useful. :V

Useful, safe to use, learnable, pick two.

So? If it changes nothing for you without devoting things to it 100%, why cut out the option when it can be interesting when used against us? That kind of thinking makes no sense to me.

If you want to cut out magic entirely then why not just play a medieval Europe quest? As there are many more characters throughout history who are just as interesting as the characters in ASOIAF.

Why give our enemies the use of magic when we won't likely have in order to make them more interesting? They will be interesting enough as it is. Never understood people's insistence on making our enemies more powerful through shit like this. I trust the GM will make it interesting enough as it is.This is westeros so nothing is really going to be easy.

I'm not playing a medieval Europe quest because I find the setting and characters in asoiaf to be particularly interesting minus the poorly crafted magic bullshit introduced (lady stoneheart and thoros, the others, melisandre and her shadow babies even the faceless men). Alternatively if you like magic so much why don't you go play a warhammer quest or some shit . Because if you've come to a asoiaf quest for magic, you've come to the wrong place.

That is unless people are voting to introduce high magic or something. That i would have less of a problem with because even that would be preferable to canon.

Because I don't know jack shit about warhammer, nor do I have any interest in it. And why not up the difficulty with magic? Maybe I like the theme? To me, mundane enemies, while able to be dangerous, are usually a bit lacklustre and even the dangerous ones can be made even more so with magic. And that makes things more entertaining for me, and for others who enjoy it.

It depends I suppose on what you want to do in the setting. If you want just political intrigue then yeah I suppose you could do it without the magic. But, then that is all it would be. The White Walkers would not exist so there goes that. If they do not exist would the Wall exist? Personally, I like High Magic as it just adds another depth of mystery and an almost child like wonder to the setting. It also adds more dangers and a multitude of sticky situations for our would be protagonist to be caught up in.

Bronn is a favorite character of mine, and like a lot of folks have said running Bronn opens up our options a lot more. Jaime is fun too, but with the uber-controlling Tywin for a father our options are going to be a lot more limited. Granted, opening up the AU butterflies means Joanna might not die, Tyrion might not even be born, and a lot of other crazy possibilities.

I can't say how happy I am to not see bandwagons and posts shitting on each other and yelling mah choices are da best...

I think ultimately what this is going to come down to, is what we direction do we want to take the character in. As they come there are several easily identifiable paths for each character to either take, or struggle to avoid. Unless Mazrick drastically changes the fundamental behaviors of characters such as Tywin and Randyll.

Samwell Tarly: Is going to be a struggle no doubt about it. Unless he can transform into a paragon of martial prowess his father is going to try to force him out of his inheritance through any means possible, up to and including kinslaying. I can't confidently depict how challenging it will be to adapt Sam to his circumstances, but I don't imagine it will be easy.

Jamie Lannister: We all know this one. Innate skill at martial endeavors, disadvantaged in the more scholastic pursuits likely due to dyslexia. Tywin is going to push him to meet his impossible standards and I suspect Mazrick will have Tywin stay true to himself here. Tywin wants Tywin as a son, not Jamie, and he will never get that.

Loras Tyrell: The one with the second greatest amount of freedom in my opinion. As the third son, Loras has a plethora of paths open to him, although he'll have to tread lightly around the Faith due to his being homosexual. Even high nobility won't serve as shield strong enough if that's made public. Other than that though, he could pursue martial excellence, a maester's chain, the septon's oath, or even start his own branch of the family if he so desires.

Olyvar Martell: A blank slate. Completely up to us as the characters since he died as an infant. He's the second in line to the throne of Dorne, but also has the freedom to pursue any path with even less restrictions than Loras because he doesn't live in the land of the heart of the Faith. Easy access to the royal family if we so desire if history is not entirely re-written through our uncle Prince Lewyn Martell, one of the paramount knights of Westeros while he lived.

Bronn: Everyone's favorite mercenary. While disadvantaged because he lacks a noble background, he has no obligations or expectations beyond putting food in his belly and making a future for himself however he can. Quite possibly the best choice of the lot.

Again, these are just my opinions and a general, cursory, overview of the characters Mazrick gave, but I feel as if they are as honest as I can make them while still allowing for player agency.

Ultimately, very little of this matters, because I expect we'll be shaping our Protag fro the ground up.

Samwell can be a knight, if we choose to make him a knight. Honestly, for Samwell, it was less that he wasn't a martial prodigy and more that he had no martial ability whatsoever and was a craven, neither of which i think any of us are interested in playing.

Jaime was, in fact, a suitable heir for Tywin, even if he probably fails a few of his expectations, but honestly, his expectations are ludicrous. As long as we don't get conscripted into the KG there, we'll be fine.

Loras might not turn out homosexual, though I'd like to try and swing him to being at least bi, if only to keep a bit of his character intact.

Olyvar is an unknown, so I'll skip over him.

And Bronn, as you said, is a mercenary. Low standing, very little wealth or resources and we'll probably be resigned to traveling and fighting and fighting and fighting until we get enough money to leverage our self a position or maybe start a business. Honestly, Bronn probably has less freedom, because we'll be stuck on a purely martial path with almost no politics or intrigue for a good long while.

I am torn between Olyvar and Jaime. On one hand, Jaime from canon is one of my top 5 characters and his family is fascinating. But chains, of duty and family, that keep him on a very tight leash.

Then there is Olyvar, a blank slate. But with a powerful family behind him and if canon on this quest, two awesome and very competent brothers. Also, he backs up events much earlier. Bad side is I dislike Dorne and feel that they were the most boring parts of the books, and they are the second most isolated Kingdom.

Euron, why couldn't I have you...

If Mazrick makes it so that we get a clean slate on all of them...honestly I'd be disappointed. Frankly that's just lazy writing at it's finest. If the original substance of the characters in the books do not at least have a moderately strong impact then we might as well say the hell with it and play a completely original character. Which is pretty much what Olyvar is.

And the fact that you mentioned changing Loras's sexuality just to give the players more agency is insulting. Loras is gay. End of the matter. If you don't want to play a character that is widely going to be ostracized, shunned, and attacked for a critical component of his person if it is made public, then you shouldn't pick the gay character in a medieval setting that depicts it as one of the great sins a person can commit.

As for Tywin and Jamie...yikes. That's a disaster waiting to happen and I'm not sure people see it. Jamie isn't the son Tywin wants him to be, and if we become the son he desires, he's going to hate that. He's going to hate that because Tywin is a ruthless man with a need to have absolute control over every aspect of his life, especially his family. Another ruthless, controlling person with his level competency is a threat to his control. It's one of the reasons he hates Tyrion to much. Tyrion can be just as ruthless, is even smarter than he is, and is at the very least moderately competent in everything he applies himself to. Tywin despises that.

For the folks who want a Jaime Lannister quest, isn't there already one on SV? Co-GMed by Mazrick and Zooboss, I think.

Alright, this just outright fucking offends me. I'm fine with Loras being gay. But not everyone playing the quest would be and I accounted for that, because if we went with building the characters from ground up, since childhood, most would probably play him as heterosexual. Seriously, either your misread something, or just completely skimmed my fucking post.
