[X] You can't afford to wait for Arthur Dayne and the main camp. The Kingswood Brotherhood has no reason to stay in Westeros and Cersei might be long gone by the time you get to her. Take Gerold and as many good men as will follow you to pull off a rescue mission.
-[X] Bring Wenda with you. She could prove useful with her knowledge of the people and woods.
-[X] Call Ser Brynden to arms. We have discovered that the hostages are being kept in a separate, smaller camp, away from the main brigand encampment. They mean to ship the hostages off to Essos. We have need of his sword and his mind, or else we fear all is lost.
-[X] Send men to the main camp to alert Ser Arthur Dayne of the foreign influence, as well as the exact location of the brigand encampment. If word could be sent to rouse the coastal lords, and have them seize any Essosi vessels sniffing about their ports, perhaps we might learn something of this hidden antagonist. Word should be sent to King's Landing as well. The Hand must know.

-[X] Try to convince Brynden to come with you: Tell him we're not someone prone to rash actions nor easily fooled, as he could see with Lord Tyrell. We would not act on this if there were nothing to back their claims. It makes sense according to the information the Prince found and according to their prior conduct. They do have Essosi on their side, this is just another piece of evidence. Either way, we're going no matter what, even if we go alone. But we know if we are to succeed with our loved ones intact we need his expertise. We will beg and humble ourselves if we need to convince him.

Transition!
As your conclusion settled upon you, a decision was reached. You couldn't give the traitors a moment's more respite. If they escaped to Essos… it didn't bear thinking about. You would not allow that to happen.

You couldn't afford to wait for Arthur Dayne and the main camp. The Kingswood Brotherhood had no reason to stay in Westeros and Cersei might be long gone by the time you get to her. You would take Gerold and as many good men as will follow you to pull off a rescue mission.

Wenda would accompany you. She could prove useful with her knowledge of the people and woods.

And you would need Ser Brynden as well. You weren't sure he would approve of your plan, but his skill, leadership, and experience would be absolutely essential in pulling this off.

You would need to call Ser Brynden to arms. You have discovered that the hostages are being kept in a separate, smaller camp, away from the main brigand encampment. They mean to ship the hostages off to Essos. We have need of his sword and his mind, or else we fear all is lost.

Now you would just need to convince him.

"Ser Brynden," you said as you approached the red-haired legend shortly after leaving your tent. "I have urgent news."

He said nothing, his eyes turning to examine Wenda questioningly. "This one is supposed to be chained up. I expect you have some clever reason for that not being true?"

You steeled yourself. "Wenda has agreed to help us rescue the king and the other hostages. The smallfolk of the Kingswood didn't know that they were going to kill the Prince and the Brotherhood never planned on helping them."

There was a long silence as the Blackfish examined the bandit girl. "And is that true, girl?"

She met his gaze and nodded, though her hands were shaking.

"Alright then." The Blackfish rose to his feet. "Tell me what you told him."

Huh. That had been easy. "You believe her?" you asked before you could stop yourself.

The older knight nodded. "I have two nieces and a nephew. I'm no stranger to spotting a steaming pile of shit when it's handed to me. I can tell when I'm being told the truth. And I can spot a capable man like you, Lannister. So what's the plan?"

Wenda cleared her throat, relief plain on her face. "The hostages are not at the main camp. The King and all the girls are being kept in a smaller camp right here."

Her finger pointed at the same spot on the map and the two of you began to explain what you knew, what you planned to do.

After the Blackfish agreed to accompany your group, things moved with incredible speed. A quick council was held, you gathered your men, and at first light you led the seventy-five men of the scout troop from the clearing. You did not even spare time to strike the tents.

Trusted men were sent to the main camp to alert Ser Arthur Dayne of the foreign influence, as well as the exact location of the brigand encampment. If word could be sent to rouse the coastal lords, and have them seize any Essosi vessels sniffing about their ports, perhaps we might learn something of this hidden antagonist. Word would be sent to King's Landing as well. The Hand must know.

The Crown's forces made excellent time through the Kingswood. You travelled light, and slept little. Thanks to information from Wenda, you evaded and even captured some of their on scouts.

Within three days, you had reached the secondary encampment without being detected. Wenda led you and Blackfish to a rise, and below you sat the traitor's camp. A collection of tents and fires rested in a clearing, and men moved about in a flurry of activity. On a sandy beach a dozen dinghies rested on the shore. Further out in the cove three large vessels sat waiting.

Near as you can guess there were fifty men, though they had a strong defensive position, and according to Wenda, all those not accounted for were days away at the bandit's main camp.

You headed back and an impromptu council was held...

[] Lord Crakehall recommends you burn the dinghies the bandits plan to take to their ships. Without them they'll have nowhere to escape even as Ser Arthur deals with the main camp.
[] Lead a lightning raid on where the prisoners are being kept, as per the Blackfish' suggestion. When you have them secured you can fight your way out and back to safety.
[] Gerold suggests that you set the camp on fire, taking advantage of the chaos to make your way to the hostages.
[] Send Wenda into the camp, as she suggests. As far as they know she is still one of them, and she can free King Aerys and the others before anyone knows better.
[] Write-in.

The Blackfish is the competent Tully. Do what he recommends.

  1. This action ignores our primary objective of rescuing the hostages. It could however serve as an excellent distraction while we go after the hostages. Only problem being is that it could potentially split our forces.
  2. This seems like the best course of action but the hostages are likely to be surrounded in the most heavily defended part of the camp. We may not have enough men to break through their defences and escape with the hostages, most of whom are women.
  3. The chaos of this action coul lead to deaths on both sides an that of the hostages. An action like this is best conducted during a fighting retreat as it forces the enemy to contend with us or save their camp.
  4. This action requires us to place far more trust in Wenda then I personal could. It does allow us to move through the camp with near impunity and take stock of things or set up for sabotage.
  5. The best option is likely to combie the strengths of each option and use them to cover for each of their weaknesses.

Separate our men into two cohorts, one with 40-50 men and the other with 25-35. Have the larger group attack on the side of the camp opposite the hostages. Perhaps, for this group, a little burning might be in order, of tents and dinghies alike. It might even be advantageous to split the larger group in two to sow more chaos.

Have the second, smaller group of 25-35 men enact this "lightning raid" on where the hostages are kept. With the defenders split between objectives, each task, I think, will be all the easier for it. A few men with longbows up on the rise wouldn't hurt.

Maybe we should work in Something that includes using Wenda to find out where all the prisoners are while using cxjenious's ideas. The women and King may not be in the same place. If we attack we may spend too much time looking for them or put them in danger through burning them on accident.

We could do something like having Wenda go in, find the prisoners and signal where the prisoners are before we attack.

I don't think burning the dinghies would take that many men, 5 or 6 might suffice. The rest could conduct a lightning raid when the dinghies are burning. This sows confusion and has the element of surprise without dividing the group.

We could also set the camp on fire to sow further confusion but I am leery of setting the camp on fire without knowing where the hostages are being kept. This can of course be remedied by sending Wenda to the camp to gain intelligence, provided we trust her. But the bandits might know that she had been captured and might not trust her or she could have a change of heart and betray us.

Send Wenda in with a few faceless mooks to gain the lay of the land and the general location of the hostages. A small team is sent in after to burn the dinghies or perhaps go in with Wenda and stay back so things are less suspicious. When the ships are burning we conduct the lightning raid on the hostage location while a larger force attacks from a 120 degree angle when compared to the larger force. Once the hostages are secured we set fire to their camp and conduct a fighting retreat. The retreat should probably be conducted towards the main group or at a position so we flank our attacking group. This allows the larger attacking force to fall back and defend our retreat with the hostages. The initial fighting would or should have drawn most of the combatants in the rebel group so as to make our escape easier while the burning ships/camp drawn additional fighters away from the defences.
  • A bonus though not something we should rely on is that if we're lucky we may get a surprise group of reinforcements from Ser Arthur Dayne since they know our location.
  • A risk we need to consider is the presence of the Smiling Knight. No single character in our current group can fight him and it's unlikely we can group our best fighters together when he may not be present.

[X] Lead a lightning raid on where the prisoners are being kept, as per the Blackfish' suggestion. When you have them secured you can fight your way out and back to safety.

Sending Wenda alone would be foolish:
1- That would put a huge amount of trust on her.
2- Our entire plan would rely solely on one person. Even if she is firmly on our side, any problem she encounters and we are fucked.
3- She is going to the other camp why? And alone at that? If anyone is suspicious...
4- Sending faceless mooks won't help. It would be foolish. This isn't an army with thousands of people. It's a small closed knitted and secretive operation. They won't just accept people they never saw or heard of because one of them suddenly came alone with them. No one is that trusting.

Ser Arthur group will take at least a day to arrive, I think. It's a much larger group, who was still to be reached, who did not have a local scout and will probably have to fight off ambushes by the scouts trying to slow them down.

Preliminary tally: Only 4 votes so far... Well, you guys have until probably Sunday to get your votes in. As always if you have questions, feel free to ask!

@Mazrick

Do we know where all the prisoners are? How big is the camp? Where are we? What is Wenda's plan to get the hostages? Will She wait until dark. How far away are the boats from the camp? How good are these fighters, according to Wenda? Do we have bowmen? They any good?

Prisoners: Center of the camp
Camp size: Valley is about a quarter mile wide. Camp itself is palisaded and large enough to fit 50 men comfortably.
Where are you? The royal forces are positioned to the north of the valley.
Wenda wants to try bluffing and getting an exact location n hostages. And Dark would seem the ideal time for an ambush.
Rough Map: Map
They've received quality arms, armor, and training, but you believe your force is better trained. You have ten very skilled bowmen, who utilize longbows.

[X] Plan Two Pronged attack

1. Have our forces split into two groups. 50 will be led by Jamie and 25 to be led by Blackfish.
2. The group with Blackfish is to sneak over the hills to the north and when they get close enough burn as many of the boats as he can and generally cause a distraction while killing people.
3. Jamie's group will attack the western entrance and strike at the camp directly and then link up with Blackfish's group.
4. While the attack is going on Jamie will lead a smaller team of our best fighters to go after the hostages.
5. Once the hostages are secure we pull out and get them to safety.
6. We do all this stuff at night.

The basic Idea is to draw their attack away from the camp so it makes it easier for us to get in and out with the hostages. All the while sowing chaos in their ranks making it harder for them to put up a defense by hitting them from two sides.

I trust to IC reasoning to deal with the little details like how much/when to burn as well as how to deal best deal with the palisades and who organizes the attack while Jamie is getting the hostages. As well as what to do with our kick ass Archers and when Jamie's group attacks and shit.

I like this plan but we should stipulate to our archers to set fighter to the camp when we start our retreat so it takes pressure off our infantry. Retreating is always the most dangerous time for an army and I'd like to improve our survival rate.

I don't want to get too specific. Maz said as long as we give broad strokes the details will be filled in by the characters IC. Jamie and Co will know the best way to get out of that place.

Maz said on rolz:

We have 75 men with us

We have 10 very skilled archers with long bows.

The rebels main camp is two days away according to Wenda.

There are 50 bandits. 30 tents. It's a valley leading to a beach about a quarter mile in diameter. Two ways into the valley for horses, though there are hills that can be climbed and such. The camp is fortified.

The hostages are held in the center of the camp.

You are north of the valley. Think of the valley as a U with 2 ways in (south and west respectively) and a beach on the east, where the dinghies are

like I said, there are two paths that can be entered by horse, though they have watchtowers there

Besides that, there are areas of the valley wall that men can climb down

Their are two watch towers on each pass with two guards per towers so 8 guards overall and 4 per pass who all have horns as well.

[X] Plan Diller

Do any attack at night.

Split into two groups.

The first 25 will make a bunch of fire pits, erect los of tents, raise lots of banners, etc. Anything to make it look like they are the main army.

The other 50 who are the main force go to the south entrance and assassinate the guards on the south towers stealthily with our archers who are all with the main group.

Hide the main force the forested area near the beach, the closest to the camp (in the part closest to the sea, since we don't want them too isolated

Ask Brynden if he thinks Wenda can be trusted to be sent into camp. (He's far more experienced and the whole reason he's even here is because he could read Wenda like a book)

If he okays it, roughen up Wenda a bit and send her into camp to "warn" them that the enemy learned where this base was and are on there way here.

Have her explain how she and others were captured by the enemy. Weaving a tale of escaping while being raped or whatever makes them believe her. Reveal one of the others revealed the location of this place. Ideally this is when the 1st group starts the fires and starts "marching"

Use this to get the entire camp to starting heading to the boats to flee at which point the 2nd group ambushes them. Wenda is to try and get as close to the hostages as she can to start subtly freeing them or be a position to literally backstab her former allies.

Once the enemy is where we want them, our knights lead the charge while our archers snipe those fucker from the forest. Tell the archers to kill the rebels closet to them first. Then they are to snipe scouts, runners, and start isolating the hostages from the rebels in that order.

We are going to combine a signal with the distraction group. A flaming arrow or such, so that when the attack starts We can signal them to come to us and attack them from behind.

Brynden leads the Melee while our ten best led by Jaime and Gerold will ride in and secure the hostages while the rest of the group and the 25 faking to be an army pincer the rebels and kill them all off. Jaime after making sure the hostages are secure and safe under Gerold and the other 8 knights will join the 25 coming in from the west and help pincer the rebels.

After we've made sure all the rebels here are dead, loot the fuck out of those ships for anything that could prove useful and then burn them.

distract and blitz is the back up plan

a group of 25 led by Brynden go through the south entrance and light those ships up. Then the main force comes from the west while everyone is distracted and hits the rebels.

This is mostly broadstrokes. The PC and NPCs all have agency and aren't completely ruled by dice so I"m sure we can leave the specifics up to them. I'm trusting Brynden and Jaime among others to not be idiots and potentially veto unviable parts of the plan or change it around to work better.
