A Light from the Shadow (Tolkien CKII)

[X] Mien of the Mourner: You are still Shadow and Flame but your new mistress has made them pure again. So your darkness is without fear for the Free People and the brightness of your flame doesn't hurt the servants of Melkor you choose to shield. It can still of course burn them at your leisure

[X] Glimpse of the Machine: Aulë et Melkor are more than alike in the mind of Illiuvatar and you benefit of this closeness. You have visions of strange technology, blasting powder, more efficient crops, crafting of items of power.

[X] Istar-Form: You have been granted the ability to shift between your form and a Mannish Fana. This fana is old, subject to all the weariness of mortal age, clad in violet robes and goes on the name Morianor. The other istari will be notified to your addition to their circle by dreams sent from the West.

[X] Glimpse of the Machine: Aulë et Melkor are more than alike in the mind of Illiuvatar and you benefit of this closeness. You have visions of strange technology, blasting powder, more efficient crops, crafting of items of power.
[X] Dwarf-Friend: Your mien has been altered to be more pleasing to the Children of Aulë. You do not know the qualities in question but they seem to align with the new stony consistence of your flesh. Dwarves are favorably inclined to you.
[X] Elf-Friend: Your darkness is now pierced with the light of Varda, reminding those elves that gaze upon you of the stars they saw in cuivenen so long ago. Elves are favorably inclined to consider you a messenger of the Powers and a soul in search of redemption.

Nevertheless if you are so inclined, I'm sure throwing the broken corpse of Azog upon the stairs of the Eastern Gate will make a good first impression on the Dwarves.
Nah, I'm thinking walk out with him grasped by our hand around his neck, hock him into the sky, grab him with the whip while we're in midair, and slam him around until he's a puddle.

[X] 2799

More time to civilize and tech up the orcs.

A chance to give the dwarfs Moria so they may grow strong in time to fight Sauron. Plus we can try to get the Ring of Thror in exchange for killing Smaug.

So tentative plan for the 2799 start:

  1. Take the Dwarfs' side, crush the goblins and let the Children of Aule reclaim Moria, they can put it to best use anyway
  2. Have a chat with Thror and offer to get rid of the over-sized lizard squatting in his kingdom for the price of one Ring of Power.
  3. Whether he accepts or not head North and kill Smaug
  4. Then take an enthusiastic walk through the Morgul Vale culminating with a one-Maia looting of the Tower of Sorcery of anything of use and especially the Stone of Minas Ithil. Maybe some of the smarter local orcs will want to switch sides from purely pragmatic considerations and help with said looting
  5. Head to Mount Gundabad take it over and begin the process of uplifting the orcs

Not having Veil of Tears is going to make civilizing the orcs difficult to impossible, so we might as well don't bother and go beat Saurons face in.

The GM made it clear that the orcs can be redeemed by non-supernatural means. Moreover I will remind you of this vote:

[ ] Evil yet to be good will be for I choose you Lady Nienna. My flames will warm those broken by Melkor's arts and my darkness will shield them. For I will redeem the race of the Orcs and so from Melkor's rebellion shall arise wonders he never dreamt of. I will not walk under the light alone but they will accompany me even to this very shore.

We have to try to redeem the orcs because we swore it to our patron Vala. Further Sauron would crush us if we tried to "beat his face in"

I find that unlikely. He doesn't even have a body right now and even if he had his chances against a Valraukar are not good.

Of course there is the minor problem of his armies, but that is what we have orcs and an aura of discord-dominion for.

I'd also like to see a quote on that. I think its not worth the likely massive effort.

Here's a quote from the OP on that:

Pros: Shadow and Flame: You are the most individually powerful being on Middle-Earth with the exception of Sauron. You tower over your troops like a vast shadow wreathed by flame, only blades forged by the Elves can harm you and you can defeat all but the most powerful lords of the Firstborn. As a being a primeval shadow, the creatures of Melkor tend to obey you instinctively.

I'd also like to see a quote on that. I think its not worth the likely massive effort.

Here you go:

Tolkien struggled with the nature of the Orcs all his life. I would rule, in accordance with the Professor's own Catholic beliefs that inform most of his work, that Melkor was unable to stamp the free-will of his creations. Indeed if their fea is like those of Elves or Man they have the same capability for good and evil than the rest just heavily supressed.

They can turn good without supernatural intervention, this is just extremly difficult and recquire they stay clear of any powerful minion of the Shadow for Morgoth designed them to be cowed and led into darkness by his servants.

Incidentally apart from violating an oath we made to our patron Vala your idea would also have us wasting "Glimpse of the machine" since there would be no one to build a manufacturing base with.
