A Game of Supers (The Gamer/Original Superhero Setting)

Iara Medea 2
Hello, hi to all the rest of my fellow peoples of the Super Quest, I present to you an updated version of our dear Iara.
I do believe a friend described it as being less reminiscent of a 'generic super heroes show character' than the first.

I hope all of you enjoy it. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you for the second time, Iara Medea.

[X] Plan Piece of Cake, Revised

The plan they had came up with was actually pretty simple. The easiest way to get inside the house was to be escorted in by one of the members. Usually, that would be difficult to arrange, but with Clara's help and preparations, they had a good chance of making it work.

Of course, "a chance" wasn't a guarantee, so the members of the group had prepared themselves to make a frontal attack if necessary, so they were all equipped with nets to deal with the dogs, along with their normal stuff. Roberta and Susan were waiting with a ladder on the opposite side of the house, ready to go for a pincer attack, or start the second phase of the plan.

You and Clara waited a certain distance away from the target house, and she took out her cellphone and made a call, which was picked up on the third ring. Then she started talking:

"Alvarez? It's me." She had deepened her voice to the point where it could easily pass off as a male one.

"I have a job for you, straight from one of the big bosses. It will be our ticket to a higher position in the gang." You could only hear one side of the conversation.

"No, of course this can't be done through normal channels. There seems to be some sort of struggle among the higher ups, and even I don't know about all the details. I'm just doing what I was ordered to." Her voice was steady and she was very convincing, to the point where you had to admire it.

"You just need to receive a package and keep it hidden on the drug house until 2:30 PM. Also, don't look inside. That was something the boss made very clear."

"I only know that two members are going to come deliver it, and they should be getting there in about five minutes."

"Okay, thanks, I hope things go right for you." Clara hung up, and gave you a thumbs up. You nodded in response.

The two of you didn't want to reveal your faces to each other, but you also didn't want to wear the very conspicuous Inscrutable masks for an infiltration mission. Instead, you wore some heavy clothing, along with hoods, and consciously avoided looking into the faces of each other. You had your masks ready to be put on when the first phase of the plan was done.

You waited for six minutes before walking to the gate of the house. The dogs quickly discovered you and went to bark.

Like that was a sign, a man emerged from the house. He ran over to the gate and calmed the dogs with a few quick gestures. Then he looked at you two and asked:

"Do you have it?"

Clara brought up the suitcase she was carrying. The man nodded and unlocked the padlock before opening the gate. He made to take the suitcase, but Clara brought it away from him.

"We were ordered to go inside to make sure everything is done properly." She said, using her real voice, in a tone that left no room for argument.

The man was clearly surprised and reluctant, but he still led the two through the yard, and the dogs did nothing against them. Finally, the three entered the house.

You went through the anteroom, and stepped into the living room. There was one man sitting on a sofa, watching TV. You couldn't see any guns on the man or around the living room.

That was pretty much the limit of where subtlety could take you. From now on, you would have to take some risks. You didn't know where were the other four men, and you still didn't know where the gun could be.

Perhaps it would be best to attack and disable those two members first. In that case, you would:

[] The guy watching TV is distracted. You and Clara should team up to subdue your "guide" without a sound before moving onto him.
[] There are two of them and two of you. Split the duties and deal with both targets at once.
-[] Clara gets the near and you the far one.
-[] You get the near and she gets the far.
[] Something else? Write-in.

Also, while the plan was to deal with the forces inside before calling the others, perhaps using their attack to attract attention would help in that. So, should you call them over already?

[] Yes.
[] No.

[X] The guy watching TV is distracted. You and Clara should team up to subdue your "guide" without a sound before moving onto him.
[X] No.

Communicating the plan to Clara wasn't difficult at all. The group had previously decided on a few simple gestures to allow orders to be passed without the need for words. And so, you took a piece of cloth from your pocket while Clara took out her knife. And then you both moved at the same time.

In a single, smooth motion, you wrapped the piece of cloth around the mouth of the man, muzzling him, and Clara put a knife to his back and whispered "Don't move."

She then brought his hands behind his back and put him in handcuffs. You followed by tying the piece of cloth so it would remain steady and forcing him to the ground, upon which Clara bound his legs together. The entire operation had been completed without a hitch.

Without a word, you two pounced on the man in the couch, managing to subdue him with just as much trouble as you had with the first one, that is to say, none. Then you pulled the two to a corner of the room, getting them out of sight.

That done, you proceeded to put on your gang masks, since scamming wouldn't really be useful from that point onwards. And seeing the empty room, you thought of asking the other two members of the team to come, even though that would alert the gang members inside that something was wrong, but eventually you decided to keep following the plan.

Of course, now you needed to decide what should be your next actions. There were still four gang members inside the house, so to deal with them you decided to:

[] Remain on the same room and attract the other enemies by making noises.
[] You and Clara shall move on together...
-[] To the basement. It's the likely location of the drug lab, so it's almost certain to contain one or two enemies.
-[] To the west wing. It's the place with a kitchen, so people should go there relatively often.
-[] To the east wing. It's the place with a bathroom, so people should go there relatively often.
-[] To the second floor. It's the place with bedrooms, where people would likely go to rest.
[] You and Clara shall split up...
-[] Write-In your specific movements.
[] Something else? Write-in.

[X] You and Clara shall move on together...
-[X] To the basement. It's the likely location of the drug lab, so it's almost certain to contain one or two enemies.

With a few whispered words, you told Clara to come with you, and you two headed down into the basement.

In complete contrast to the rest of the house, the basement was anything but normal. Looking at the walls and floor, you would probably think they belonged to some kind of advanced medical research institute, instead of a drug lab owned by a local gang.

It made complete sense that they would be sent to destroy it, as a setup like that would definitely cost a pretty penny, and it would harm the Red Claws gang if it were destroyed. But you wondered why they would give a job like that to a new team like yours. Was there some hidden reason behind it?

Regardless, you still had to do your job, so you took point as the both of you walked down a white hallway, leading to a sealed door. It was locked, and it wasn't the kind of door that your lockpicking skills could help with, so you decided on another method to go in.

You simply knocked on the door and waited. The security measures in the house were lax, so you didn't think they would have a system to prevent unauthorized people from entering the lab. It could be easily done via calling the cellphone of someone inside, but it was some extra trouble, and people frequently traded security for convenience.

Sure enough, very soon there was a sound as the door opened, and you heard someone say something like "what do you want?", but you were already moving.

As soon as the door was open enough, you punched through it to hit the throat of the man behind it. He stumbled backwards, unable to utter a sound due to a lack of air, and you forced yourself through, giving a sign to Clara for her to restrain him while you took care of the rest.

However, that was when things stopped going according to plan. The first thing you noticed when you got in was a man wearing a white lab coat, who had frozen midstep. He looked towards you without understanding what was going on, and you took the chance to dash over to him at your maximum speed.

It still wasn't fast enough. The man managed to get out an "INTRU-" before you shut him up with an uppercut. The voice had been loud enough to be heard throughout the entire house. The remaining two man were definitely ready for a fight now.

You looked at the entrance and saw that Clara was just finishing the restraints on the other man and looking at you in concern.

You dropped the screamer to the ground and quickly restrained his arms and legs. Since the jig was up, there was no need to keep him silent. But now you had to deal with two more men, and a gun.

What will you do?

A.N: Sorry about the lack of options. I had a few ideas but they were too complicated.

Post 17
[X]Use your acting to mimic his voice, try convince them it is a false alarm.
-[X]Put on his lab coat you should be able to act well enough to get them to hesitate the second you need to jump them

A remarkable idea suddenly crossed your mind, and you changed your plans, actually muzzling your guy before raising your voice and speaking in a deep, male tone:

"Damn it, Man! You almost gave me a heart attack!" Combined with the walls in between there and the rest of the guys, this should be enough to fool them. But just to sell the illusion, you looked at Clara and whispered "play along".

She understood what to do immediately. It really was great to work with competent people:

"HAHAHA! You should have seen the look on your face!" She shouted in a passable imitation of the man who had tried to give the alarm.

With that, you had probably gained an extra chance, but it wouldn't do to get complacent, as unexpected things could happen any time. Like the other two could move from their positions for some reason and end up stumbling onto the restrained enemies.

So, you decided to stack things up in your favor as much as possible. You took one of the lab coats and wore it, since it could possibly make an enemy hesitate for a precious moment. Clara followed your lead, and the two of you went back up from the basement.

Upon reaching the main hall, you discovered that everything had gone right. The two men you had beaten earlier were still tied down, and it seemed like no one had noticed them.

Knowing that this was a great opportunity, specially considering that there should only be two enemies remaining, you acted quickly, bringing Clara along as you hurried to the west section of the house.

Your luck held out, and as soon as you entered you managed to see both another gang member sitting at a table and a pistol at that same table, and it didn't seem like he noticed you.

Moving at your max speed, you easily managed to subdue him before he even noticed that something was wrong. And calling upon Clara, you got her to pick up the pistol, while you two went back to the main hall.

After that, the last part of the operation was easy. You ordered Clara to stay there and make sure nothing unexpected happened while you checked first the east hall and then the second floor (there finding the last gang member) and the house was cleared.

+0+

After that, the next steps were simple. You finally called the other two members of the group into the house. They dealt with the dogs by using the nets and muzzling them, and all that was left was finishing the mission and potentially the secondary objective.

The division of tasks was easy. Roberta and Clara started dragging the gang members outside the house, while Susan was the one who held the bomb and would plant it in the basement. Naturally, she would also look to see if the information she wanted to get was there.

You would also search for it, and the place where it seemed the most likely for it to be was:

[] The ground floor
[] The second floor

A. N: You guys got some really good rolls here, and that's why things went so perfectly.

Almost at the end of the operation now...

[X] The second floor

You decided to get the second floor searched, and the group split up between their respective duties. You kept an ear out in case of anything unexpected while you carefully searched every one of the second floor rooms in search of any documents that looked important.

The fact that the house was only a shelter, instead of a place where people actually truly lived, was something that really helped you. There wasn't really an excess of papers of things like bills and similar, which would not be the case on a real residence. Still, looking through wasn't exactly a quick and easy process, specially considering that you didn't know what it was exactly that you were looking for.

However, you managed to find something good. It was a small notebook, that you looked through and found several names of people and phone numbers, together with names of several different substances. Those were probably the suppliers for the raw materials used to make drugs.

You still kept looking to see if you'd find anything else, but that was already a pretty good result.

+0+

You did not in fact, managed to find anything else, and you went back to the ground floor in time to see Susan coming up from the basement. You informed her of your find and you two went to check out how the other two were doing with their task.

They were pretty much done, so Susan set the timer on the bomb to two minutes before all four of you left the house.

All four members helped drag the six gang members a little bit more away from the house, just to be sure, and then you left through the gate. Susan having gotten the key from one of the enemies.

You waited until the explosion happened, and then all four of you split up and left through different routes.

You headed west, cutting through a sidepath, and your intention was to enter a relatively secluded spot before removing your mask.

But you were stopped in your tracks by a horrifying sight.

It was a girl, wearing a set of clothes that looked like a coat and jeans, along with a hood, except that every single piece of clothing seemed to be interwoven with shadow, giving them an otherwordly impression.

Standing at the top of a nearby house, looking straight at you, was unmistakably Shadow Crusader.

What do you do?

[] Faint.
[] RUN AWAY!
[] Wait a minute, why are you so scared...?

[X] Wait a minute, why are you so scared...?

There's something wrong.

You are feeling an unreasonable amount of fear. It's true that Shadow Crusader is scary, and her appearance is a concern, but it is not to the point where you should lose control like this.

Yet you can feel it. You are so scared that it is like a terrifying monster is about to eat you. You are scared enough to lose control and do something stupid in a panic.

You won't, though. While a part of you had completely lost its mind, a deeper part was completely calm and aware, and it took control.

So... that's how the Glass Mask feels like.

Calmly but quickly, you jumped over the left wall. Your skill in parkour is more than enough for that. It's a small movement, but takes you out of direct line of sight, which is a good first step.

Instead of continuing left (into the residence nearby), you went south and jumped another wall, moving at your fastest speed to put distance between you and the enemy.

Almost without thought, you took off your mask and put it in your backpack. You dived into a corner on a street full of shops and wove through, following the same escape route that had been set for Susan.

You didn't meet her, but that wasn't the point. You just needed to be able to leave Shadow Crusader behind. And after a few more turns and going through narrow corners, you let yourself relax just a bit. It seemed like you had successfully dodged her.

You went back home and pretty much collapsed on your bed.

A.N: Just finishing off the operation.

No choices for now, because I thought it would be best to put the results together with the post for the rest of the week. It should come out soon.

Part 20
Part 2

You woke up a few hours later, and got surprised to notice that you weren't really tired in the way you would expect after staying up so late. You decided to think about that later.

Regardless, you had a few important things to do. Besides just doing your morning routine and preparing for school, you also took the chance to enter the chat room of the group and report that you had successfully managed to escape. You didn't bother talking about your meeting with Shadow Crusader, since there was very little to gain and much to lose by doing that (they might think she was trying to brag, or something like it).

It didn't take long for the others to appear as well, since you had planned to make that report together on the morning. It thankfully seemed that none of the other members had stumbled upon Shadow Crusader in their escapes.

Susan soon asked about the information you had found. The notebook was still inside your backpack, so you took it out and started taking pictures of the pages using your cellphone, which had a pretty good camera. You sent the pictures to Susan and asked what she thought of them.

The girl was very satisfied with what you had found, and said that she would send the information to the higher-ups in the gang. Susan also mentioned that they would have to go to another meeting with their superior during the night in order to receive further instructions.

It was clear that, despite your position of leader of the group, she was the most valued member, due to her connections. You would have to do something to get around that later on, but for now, you just didn't have enough knowledge and achievements to fight for control.

You went down to have breakfast.

+0+

Surprisingly, your father was actually down there as well. That was a pretty rare occurrence. You greeted him while you were making your meal.

You two made light conversation while you were eating. You asked him if there were any problems at work, and he asked you the same about school. It was a pleasant way to start the day. However, eventually he said something that caused you to stumble slightly:

"You seem pretty happy. What happened?"

You looked at him in confusion for a second before your mind processed what he was saying. You opened your mouth to answer, quickly deciding to keep things close to the truth.

"I made a few friends." You said "I was talking with them via the computer earlier."

"Oh? That's nice." He said "Could you tell me more?"

You spoke, weaving a tale about how you ended up meeting and getting to know the three. Your father listened attentively.

+0+

The school day was pretty normal. And there were no more noteworthy happenings for the rest of the day, so you simply did things as per routine until it finally came time for the planned meeting.

It felt pretty similar to the previous meeting. All four members of the group standing at attention while looking at the contact, every single person present wearing one of the masks of the Inscrutables. But a few things were different, mostly the fact that now you four knew each other, so there was less wariness in your glances.

"You have done well." The contact said, then she looked at you "Do you have the notebook with you?"

You answered yes and took it out of your backpack. You had sent photos of some of the pages, but not all of them, so having the original was still a good thing.

"Excellent." The woman said "You really have performed excellently on your first mission. I had mentioned the possibility that you might receive something special if you did well enough, but... I'm not the one who should talk about that."

Saying that, the woman turned to the side, causing you and the other three to do the same. In that direction was a door, and you immediately understood what was going on when that door started to open. It looked like you five weren't the only people in the house.

Still, you could not help but suck in a sharp breath when you actually saw who it was:

That person was unmistakable. She was a tall woman who wore a mask that was similar to the one you were wearing, except that it was much more high-tech, seeming to perfectly mold itself to her face and extending around her head like a protective helmet.

Her clothes looked somewhat normal at first glance, being military style overalls, boots and gloves, but as the woman got closer, you realized that the clothes were thicker and moved differently than you'd expect, as well as having strange small lines that gave an impression of solidity.

Inscrutable wasn't the type to fight in person, but it would be unwise to believe that she was unable to.

That woman had an intense amount of presence, and even just walking slowly in your direction, she gave you the feeling of needing to stand a little straighter.

Inscrutable stopped a few feet away from you, and she silently looked at each of the four members of the group in turn. Then she started to talk:

"We have spent a long time being suppressed by the disparate forces in this city, unable to achieve true greatness, to the point where even a lowly group such as the Red Claws has been able to challenge us." She spoke with a voice that was low but full of conviction "However, it is almost time for this situation to end. I have big plans to realize, but for them to work, competent soldiers like yourselves are needed."

She stopped speaking, and you understood what she expected.

"We are glad for the chance to help those plans come to fruition." You said with a bow. The other three followed your example.

"You have shown much potential, and that shall be rewarded." She swept her arm in the direction of the contact.

The woman came forward holding a basket, and inside the basket were... arm guards. Thick, black and big enough to wrap around your entire forearm.

The contact asked for you to hold out your arms and demonstrated how to put it on Susan. You, Roberta and Clara put them on as well.

"Those are shield bracelets." The contact said "Open and close your hands three times in quick succession to activate the shield, and do the same to deactivate it."

You tested it, and found that the bracelets were capable of materializing an "energy shield", which was tall and broad like a tower shield.

"Those shields can handle gunfire to a certain extent, but they can be overloaded if they're hit by more than a dozen bullets in quick succession, and they can't stand-up to anti-materiel fire. Still, they are powerful tools, so use them wisely." The woman said.

"You will be able to receive much more in time, as long as you continue to excel." Inscrutable said, before leaving through the same door she came in.

+0+

The rest of the meeting was much less interesting. The contact said that the group would be called after a week to receive their next mission.

You put the bracelet inside your backpack and went back home. It was difficult to control yourself but it was already late, so you rejected the idea of checking out your new toy before going to sleep.

In the following day, you did some preliminary examining of the bracelet, trying to figure out how exactly the activation worked, and you soon realized that having the thing in your arm but not completely closed prevented you from activating the shield.

That meant that either the activation was based on recognizing your muscle movements, or there was a system that prevented activation unless the bracelet was closed.

After coming back from the school, you did a simple experiment (closing the bracelet around a stick and doing the movements with your hand slightly above it), and the shield activated, showing that it was the second case.

That was only the beginning. You spent the rest of the weekend playing around with the shield generator, first trying to figure out its other limits (it would not activate inside an object, for example), and then slowly and carefully taking it apart, doing your best to avoid breaking it.

You ended up needing to buy a few specialized tools, but you had enough spare money for it.

It was a delicate operation, but little by little you started finding the connection points, and finally managed to open up the bracelet.

Inside it was a whole new world for you to explore. You looked around and messed with things until you found the mechanism that checked whether the bracelet was closed (it was very near the border).

Messing around with it while watching the rest of the interior, you eventually figured out the control mechanism: It was composed of four small cameras that watched the space where your hand would be, and they probably had some sort of software that analyzed those images and looked for certain patterns.

Finally, after all that was done, you started on the real hard part: Trying to figure out how the thing actually worked, and what each part actually did. Looking at the connections and the bigger pieces, you came to the conclusion that the mechanisms were split into three major parts.

You turned the bracelet on and hit the shield several times with a hammer, and then noticed that one of those parts had become a lot hotter. There were a few possible explanations for it, but you deduced that it had to be the power source.

After that things became even more complicated. Try as you might, you weren't quite able to make sense of what the other parts did. So you changed your point of view, and tried to reverse engineer the thing.

How would a shield generator work? It needed a way to "set the target", delineating where the shield would be created, whether that shield be some sort of coherent energy focus or something that altered the particles in the air. Otherwise the energy would scatter.

You touched the shield with your hands, feeling that it was smooth, you hit the shield and observed how it rippled from the impact. You started thinking about how the air normally let everything pass easily because it moved out of the way. You theorized that one of the parts should be manipulating the air to change its properties. You thought that one of the two unknown parts had a few tubes, which made you connect it mentally with air, meaning the other part would be the "targetter".

It was a pile of suppositions, and you still did not have any solid idea of how it worked. But suddenly...

Part 21-1
[x] Trondason

The next week was far more relaxing than the previous one, given that you didn't have the shadow of such an important operation hanging over your head. But it was still a remarkably busy period, because you refused to waste time.

On the spirit of that, you decided to investigate the reason why you hadn't really felt tired even after a night full of work and with very little sleep. If things turned out the way you expected, it would give you even more time to use.

So you tested things out. One night you spent completely without sleep, trying to see what kinds of effects that would have on your health. And that was all that was necessary to show that you had indeed not become immune to sleep, because you spent the entire school day feeling like crap, and immediately went to take a nap after coming back home.

The next day, you decided to try and see if the previous event had been a fluke. You stayed up until four in the morning and woke up at six. And apparently that seemed to be enough. You spent the entire day doing things and failed to notice any abnormality caused by the lack of sleep.

Having an idea, you did the same thing as before, except that when it came time to sleep, you deliberately avoided doing any of the mental exercises that you had usually done out of routine. The difference was startling. While you wasn't as bad off as going on no sleep, that still really hindered your mental focus for the day.

For your next experiment, you spent some time during the night doing your mental exercises, but neglected to actually sleep. That ended up being even worse, though it still wasn't as bad as going awake without doing anything.

From your experiments, you came to the conclusion that sleep had both physical and psychological functions. The latter you could compensate by using your mental techniques, but not the former. With that said, you decided to test whether meditation could have an effect, given how much you were focusing on it during the weak.

The answer was... Kind off. You could use meditation as a substitute for sleep, but you couldn't do anything else with the meditation while doing so, and it wasn't any more efficient than normal sleep. It could be useful if you were sleeping in a dangerous place and didn't want to get your guard down, but otherwise, it was pretty much the same as normal sleep.

With this, you would have extra time for your projects every week (you intended to keep checking yourself to see if there were long term effects, just in case) but you also got something else from that:

Mental Discipline Level 9
- The skill to maximize the potential of your mind. At this level, you can memorize things with no effort, and sort information into distinct groups for easy access.

Besides that, you were also training meditation, hoping to master it soon. It was both better and worse than your sleep experiments. It was better because you never had to deal with painful results such as the sleep deprivation, but it was worse because progress was a lot slower and more erratic.

It couldn't be helped, since you were trying to reach mastery in something that other people would devote their entire lives with trying to pursue without even reaching where you're currently at (and isn't it amazing that you once thought of your power as something quaint?), but you had even used your self-hypnosis to make things easier, and even then your progress proceeded at a snail's pace.

Usually your training worked in fits and starts, as you slowly looked for the best ways to advance from your current level. However, Meditation was a bit different. It was simply far too broad for specific methods to help more than just a bit, and that resulted in your experience progressing just a little bit more every time, regardless of the methods you used.

Still, you persevered through all of that, deciding to try meditation in movement, mostly katas, since it would be a way to increase the intensity of the training while also making it less bothersome.

Meditation was all about seeking your inner self, but you thought about your use of self-hypnosis and wondered what such a thing could be, what truly is someone's inner self. Over the course of your meditation you had recognized your two biggest obsessions: Your fascination with obtaining control and your hunger for improvement, the two things that had driven you to your recent actions, which would seem unthinkable to anyone who didn't understand them.

However, simply focusing on those things wasn't enough. Eventually you moved on to other aspects of yourself, your likes, your relationships... Everything that you could consider as part of your essence.

All of that gave experience to the skill, but you never actually found something that could truly be called the core of yourself.

And that, as you deduced, was precisely the point.

There wasn't such a thing as a core, an absolute inner self of a person. Everyone was composed of a multifaceted mix of desires, influences, biases and all those sorts of things. The question wasn't finding one's own true self, but understanding how much each part of you influenced your thoughts and decisions. That was the meaning of knowing yourself.

Meditation Level 20
- The skill to reach inside yourself and obtain a better understanding of your own mind and behavior. At this level, meditation is not any more thought intensive than simple rest, and your level of self-knowledge has attained the point of mastery.

You have obtained: The Shard of Self.
- By seeing the self as multifaceted, you can now recognize the Gamer ability as something both from within and without yourself. This realization will be important for your future path.

What you got from reaching level 20 wasn't as straightforward as the other skills you mastered, but you could tell that it could possibly be even better than the others. The mastery specially, considering that it was the first time your ability referred to itself.

You were itching to explore your new gains, but you simply did not have the time. It was already late saturday, and it was almost time to go to the gang meeting.

A.N: This was taking too long, so I decided to split the chapter in two so you didn't have to wait so much. Part 2 will come faster, together with the choices.

Part 2

You left the house in the same way as always, and you put on the mask and headed up to the same spot as you always did to meet with the other members of your group. Everything seemed to be as usual, with your three partners and your contact being the only people inside the abandoned house.

However, when the latter put on a laptop on the floor and wordlessly let a video play, you realized that your thoughts had been wrong.

The video itself was simple, it was just Inscrutable talking, but the contents of what she was saying... were anything but.

"My soldiers, the time has come. The time for us to break through the shackles of the so-called balance of powers in this city." Her voice was calm but full of conviction, one couldn't help but be drawn in by her words "For long we have toiled and prepared to be able to sweep through all our opposition, and now we are finally ready.

"We are ready to take over this city. And if you are watching this video, that means your group has been given a special privilege: The permission to select which part of the plan you would prefer to help implement.

"This plan is divided in four parts. The first and second parts concern the super powered individuals in the city. The first of them is attack, that is hunting down and disabling them, while the second is defense, that is the protection of crucial sites from unexpected attacks.

"The third part is based around territorial control, specifically the acquisition of important sites not yet under our sway. Finally, the fourth part concerns the public view, mostly the suppression of information from leaking to the outside world.

"The exact mechanics of each part shall have to remain in secret for reasons of security, but in order to help you decide which part to choose, I'll say a few things: The first part will necessitate an ability to adapt and skills in strategy, the second part will necessitate a high level of both wariness and meticulousness, the third part will necessitate decisiveness and spatial awareness, while the fourth will necessitate an ability in long-term planning as well as skills pertaining to the avoidance of attention.

"As an elite team, you will be able to command the rank-and-file members assigned to the same part as you. You will of course also receive the outlines of the plan, as well as the tools needed, but using those tools and the specifics of how you execute the plan will be left in your hands. Know that great things are expected of you, and you shall enjoy corresponding rewards after our victory.

"You are my soldiers, and this is our war."

And that was the end of the video. You looked around to see the reactions of your teammates. Clara looked like she was about to faint, Roberta was clenching her right fist almost hard enough to draw blood, and even Susan had been affected, her usual poise shattered as she openly expressed surprise.

You already knew how it was going to turn out, but you still opened your mouth and asked:

"I have a few thoughts of my own already, but what do you think?"

The discussion that ensued was short. Considering how vague the boss had been, none of the three had any special thoughts about which part of the plan to choose. Eventually, it was decided that you were the one who was going to choose.

And the one you chose was...

[] Part 2 – Defending.
[] Part 3 – Conquering.

A.N: In case you're curious, if your performance in the mission had been merely average, you would end up part of the rank and file in the defending section.

Also here we are, the beginning of the City War arc. This was going to happen regardless of the path you choose, but since you're part of the gang now, that means you get to experience it in a different way...
