You've all got a line break in the middle of your Guild action vote. ^^'
I know I'm going to feel stupid for asking this, what do you mean by this, my stupid brain can't figure it out.

How dare they Avatar has reach the point where if nations refuse his help they are instantly isolated from the world and their citizens and here Hollywood has not even allowed avatar movies to appear wow
I don't think Hollywood is refusing to allow Avatar movies to appear, it's that they haven't had the physical time to make them, making a movie takes several months, if not over a year, I'm sure with how influential the Avatar has been I'm sure on Earth Bet they would make a movie about him, it's just that stuff takes time.

[X][Guild] Asura has India's Thanda capes sufficiently freaked out that they want outside help, despite their usual emphasis on secrecy. India collapsing would be cataclysmic for Earth-Bet, and you've delayed too long already.

[X][Avatar] Lockboxes: The super-prisons you recently constructed with Dragon have been very handy already, by providing a place to put Front and Restoration villains who weren't sent to the Birdcage. If you're going up against Op Center, however, you're going to need more Lockboxes than you currently have - the man has something in the range of half a thousand villains working for him.
[X][Avatar] Relief: The Avatar spends some time on providing relief efforts to particularly-devastated regions of Earth-Bet.
[X][Avatar] Space Program: The Avatar can provide invaluable assistance to multiple national space agencies - it's not fighting villains, but it's an important symbol of hope in the future.

The only thing I can see on what they make on a avatar movie is his origin when he first appeared in his Earth in the 1940s
Pretty sure the Avatar first appeared on his Earth in the 1920s, if I remember right Hitler and the Nazis already knew the Avatar didn't like their ideology as he destroyed the Ku Klux Klan in the 20s or 30s.

Basically:

[ ][Guild] Asura has India's Thanda capes sufficiently freaked out that they want outside
help, despite their usual emphasis on secrecy. India collapsing would be cataclysmic for Earth-Bet, and you've delayed too long already.

vs.

[ ][Guild] Asura has India's Thanda capes sufficiently freaked out that they want outside help, despite their usual emphasis on secrecy. India collapsing would be cataclysmic for Earth-Bet, and you've delayed too long already.

As you can see, the second option is all in one paragraph, while the first one has the paragraph end at "outside" and start a new line at "help".

Correct.

Managing to vote twice in a row seems so unlikely lol

I want the space option, too...but frankly, this feels like a bad time for it. I'm aware that that's an excuse that's easily applied to any time (not just in Earth Bet), but this Asura thing has been been building for a while, so I think it'd probably be better to set space on the backburner for the moment in favor of really making sure that we're ready for helping India.
Which is also why I'm picking the Guild option, because I want to stack the deck for that as best we can right now.

The Lockboxes option seems obvious: we should make sure we actually have enough prisons for the villains we're planning on capturing in the next week, because if we don't, then even ignoring politics, there's almost certainly going to be breakout attempts. But also...it seems like we're gonna need a ton for the Asura situation, afterwards? Unless I'm misreading things, I suppose. Because just because you were brainwashed into being a slave for a villain doesn't mean you weren't also a villain already, and I don't think they'd just be released afterwards if there are e.g. already standing warrants for their arrest for murder and such...

Relief seems like a good idea for the reasons stated before, from political/PR to, you know, it's just very IC for our protagonist. I'm a little worried it'll keep the other prep from being sufficient, but...we gotta play our character IC.

Thank you! :)

Don't know how that happened, but I'll go fix that in a few minutes, thanks again.

-As everyone has said, this has been festering way too long. I felt like there was a tick on a crisis counter every time we ignored it

-This is basically our prep work for Indonesia. At some point we're going to need to invest in making it so we aren't the choke point for this, but now is not that time. Still, once we have enough for Indonesia in the time constraints we should move on

[X][Avatar] Guild: Whichever mission the Guild chooses to focus on, the Avatar dedicates as much time as he can to supporting and preparing it.

-In this case, prepping for India and finding out just what jungle of nanophage and drama we're about to stick our necks into.

[X][Avatar] Relief: The Avatar spends some time on providing relief efforts to particularly-devastated regions of Earth-Bet.

-Not only good for people, but good for PR. Work on infrastructure, climate, and immediate disaster relief

[X][Avatar] Indonesia: The Avatar alone cannot do anywhere near as much good for the country as the entire Guild put together can. Nonetheless, he can provide invaluable help in his free time.

It would be nice to hear that rather than things backsliding in any crisis zone the moment we turn our head, we hear that people that we've inspired are actually making headway. If we're trying to be paragons, we hopefully can inspire others to step up without us having to speak face to face or twist some arms.

arrested a highly successful Internet celebrity who's been flaunting the country's hate-speech laws more and more brazenly,
I know I'm an update and a couple weeks late, but I'm not a fan of this bit. Hate speech laws are touchy at best in my opinion, verge too close to declaring something to be thought crime.

I absolutely understand that the Avatar will rightfully disdain bigotry in all it's many forms, and I don't know what this particular nazi-adjacent shitbag was doing. But laws punishing people for expressing incorrect opinions are easy to misuse.

Every kind of law can be misused. One has to consider the specifics.

I think this is a bit where the USA view on things and European views differ somewhat. In the USA, the Supreme Court has ruled that the First Amendment protects hate speech, and any limitation on freedom of speech is viewed as borderline sacrilegeous. Meanwhile, post-WWII, most European countries have laws against hate speech - France certainly does.

You know the saying, "the only thing worse than a country where Nazis are allowed to march in the streets is a country where they're not allowed"? Well, I'm of the opinion that it's bullshit. I live in a country with hate speech laws, and as far as I can tell, nothing of value has been lost due to those laws existing. I would dread those laws going away.

Freedom of speech is important. But many things are important. A healthy society needs to balance the various important things it must protect, not declare one sacrosaint at the expense of all the others.

 OK I'm putting my foot down before this spirals into another USA vs EU discussion.

What @Roaming_Guardian is talking about is a uniquely USA cultural problem the same way in the USA schools shootings have a monthly rate and elsewhere in the world they maybe happen once a decade.

@Roaming_Guardian is right about EU hate speech laws being easy to misuse. In the USA. Which is why the USA doesn't have them, they wouldn't solve the problem.

Since you haven't brought this up @sun tzu the problem with the USA having any sort of hate speech laws isn't the First Amendment. The First Amendment actually allows for inciting speech to be persecuted which means the USA could easily pass hate speech laws based on their own common law version of incitement.

The USA doesn't fucking have a common law version of incitement.

This is because while the USA is one of the first modern democracies in the world during the period of time when the common law theory of incitement was being developed in most countries, which if I'm remembering correctly was in the Roaring 20s and the Great Depression of the 30s, the USA was instead dealing with basically a massive surge in organized crime instead because of the Prohibition making organized crime more lucrative than racism.

The closest the USA has come to a famous public inciting speech case that it could base its common law hate speech laws around in our timeline/history is the speech Trump gave before January 6th kicked off.

This is an actual fucking problem in the USA and one I expect the Avatar has fixed at some point in his timeline after he kicked the Klan's teeth in. This is also a problem the Avatar will have to deal with in the Earth Bet version of the USA.

You know it's bad when the spooks are spooked, and to quote a certain clone: "Proper planning prevents p- inadequate performance"

As for the Lockboxes, i don't know how long takes for the Avatar to conjure one, but being able to build it in place would probably be faster than taking a finished product and placing it there, barring stuff like teleporters.
