I think we all agree India is the Guild one. Any situation involving both mind control and nanotech has the potential to go exponentially bad. Like We Are The Borg bad, but with some subtlety and cooler costumes. That's going to be a major threat.

As for what we do in our own time though. Relief work is going to be hugely important, and not just because it's reducing the problem from the ground up. I'd focus on drought relief and infrastructure development, as well as eliminating immediate resource crises like famines. So first stop people from starving, then give them the tools to build themselves up and need less aid in the future. Also, from a PR front, it will make it harder for our enemies to make hay out of Prisitina. Because while they absolutely had it coming, and wiping them out was the right move, using our powers to kill ordinary people is easy to spin.

Now I'm torn for what else to do. Like I said, India could be ready to go full hive mind right now and we've let it fester. Even if we catch it early in the exponential growth cycle there are so very many ways an intelligent enemy can make mass-mastery and mass-empowering a nightmare. So I kind of want the Avatar to mostly prep. But.

Lockboxes... honestly, that seems mostly like an Other People Problem at this point. You can make the omni-metal and carbosteel, you can put them in place, but the design and construction can be handled by entirely mundane authorities at this point. So that should only be a small fraction of your time. Besides... honestly, while lockboxes are necessary, The Avatar isn't about making jails.

Indonesia seems like a really good bet too, laying the groundwork for our major operation coming up. I'd put that slightly over the Korean peninsula. Kamikoa is horrifying of course, but low on the apocalypse meter and there are many horrifying people in Earth Bet. And while it would be good to stabilize that part of the world more, it's not as immediate a priority.

---

So split between:
Relief Work
Prep Time
Indonesia

and AGAINST Lockboxes except for the minimum involvement necessary.

Now the chaper!

Love the single finger punch stop! "I am not interested in pretending you are a credibly threat." Perfection.

Tattletale throwing a pillow at The Avatar was, frankly, incredibly endearing.

I'm honestly disappointed in Marcel's strategy that we actually see on screen. I know they were pressed for time, but Master-Proof opsec protocols should have been a standard consideration and word should be getting around that The Avatar is can't be Mastered himself. Just generally agree that while I love competence porn and Nazis getting what's coming to them the bad guys should also be smart.

Lord Cognito, doing the classic megalomaniac 'We didn't fail, this was Exactly As Planned!' routine was frankly hilarious. Love it!

Also yeah, very competent crowd control and PR work by the Avatar. Love to see it. Great chapter, fash was smashed, onward!

I agree with most of what you said except for this, the Lockbox voting option explicitly states that since we're going after Op Center we need more Lockboxes then we currently have, since he has a lot of people working for him, like hundreds, and Lockboxes are preferable to the Birdcage by a lot, now if you still think it's not a big priority and it's more important for the Avatar to focus his efforts on preparing for the India operation fair enough but I think we should do Lockboxes as well as Relief Efforts and Indonesia, but that's certainly a valid option, just not what I would go for.

[ ][Avatar] Lockboxes: The super-prisons you recently constructed with Dragon have been very handy already, by providing a place to put Front and Restoration villains who weren't sent to the Birdcage. If you're going up against Op Center, however, you're going to need more Lockboxes than you currently have - the man has something in the range of half a thousand villains working for him.

It's true that they're infinitely better than the Birdcage. I guess the question is not 'do we need lockboxes' (we do) but 'how much is that The Avatar's problem?' As I see it the only involvement were really needed for is placing them and providing exotic ingredients, overall there are other people who can make them faster.

Fair enough, I just presume that if the voting option to build more Lockboxes is available in the first place that we are needed heavily for the construction of them, otherwise that option wouldn't be there, if you understand what I mean.

I do. So yeah, what I'd rephrase my suggestion to is 'Lockboxes - minimum involvement with the current timeframe constraints, working to reduce dependence on us for the process'

Wait, are we the only one who can make Lockboxes? I can't remember if we ever confirmed or denied that. Cause if so, teaching others how to do so should be a high priority.

Well we make them with Dragon, but yes, as far as I know we and Dragon are the only ones who can make them, you are right though that teaching others how to make them and potentially finding capes who can put them in orbit instead of us is important, though if I remember right some of the Lockboxes are on alternate earths which we would obviously be needed for personally, though I could be wrong in that.

Edit: So I found the post from Sun Tzu, and here's where the Lockboxes are being place, looks like I was wrong though about the alternate worlds thing, that's something that's being considered but I don't know if that's something that's currently implemented.

Lots of different Lockboxes being built. Orbit, deep underground, under the sea... other dimensions is being looked into...

Yeah, we can probably get more lockboxes built teaching others to build them (and providing placing services) than anything we can make ourselves

It's likely possible other tinkers with the right specialties (especially collaborating) could make something like a Lockbox.

But part of the Avatar's main contribution is saving tens of millions of dollars (minimum) for each one in construction cost, manpower, and placement.

And between Avatar's matter generation powers, Dragon's tech, and Proschnost's robustness speciality, the Lockboxes aren't as maintenance heavy as it ought to be.

Given the Avatar designed and made several Super Prisons for peopl in Earth Gimmel, I imagine that he could still make Lockboxes on his own to free it from tinkertech maintenance time, but it'd "only" be better than a regular supermax prison with cutting edge (but ultimately mundane) tech in place while located in nigh-impossible places to reach.

Instead of being outright sci-fi thanks to Tinkertech

There isn't really a "teaching" option for making Lockboxes. The Avatar's powers - both in scale and versatility - allow him to build things in orbit, on the sea floor, a mile underground. Very, very few people who can do that. Probably Eidolon.

I honestly felt a little disappointed when this happened. It makes the stakes seem higher if the bad guys get the occasional win, or rather at least manage to turn a loss into a less bad loss, rather than just having a parade of victory after victory for the Avatar.

This was the bad guys almost winning. We pulled that win off only because we had better precog support. I expect scry vs scry to be in play pretty soon for any large scale action we take.

I'm also partial to Relief Efforts and Lockboxes, for all the reasons listed above. As for the update itself, it's SO satisfying that we managed to pull it all off with no casualties AND none of the bad guys got away. Still a little worried about those guys in ski masks, but we'll get them too eventually.

The ski masks are the bad guys that got away.

Okay, so knowing the Avatar really is the choke point with Lockboxes (we need to fix that before we leave*) things become even more annoying. Because we're going to need 500 lockboxes for Indonesia.

On that note, then, I'd say don't do more prep work for Indonesia even if it would be good. Setting up enough lockboxes to actually contain arrested supervillains IS prep work for Indonesia. We still need prep work for India though. Start meeting Thanda, find out why they're so afraid, let them know relief will be coming, review known capabilities and especially maintenance requirements for Tinkertech nanites. That kind of homework. We still need to do relief work, both because it helps people right now and also for public relations. And prevents work in the future.

So! My votes now are

India Prep
Relief Work
Lockboxes

* I hate to suggest it but Space Program leading to Orbital Prison?

HOWEVER! If I want to devil's advocate myself, swapping out Indonesia for Relief Work means we're doing double prep for the operation in there while setting up for our next one. That should make it go a lot more smoothly.

Do note that-
1)With some exceptions, Lockboxes aren't solitary confinement. There's two, three, sometimes four or even five inmates in most Lockboxes.
2)Preparations for the Op Center battle will take a while - something like a week - so, the Avatar Actions will get more in-universe time than previous similar votes.

I assumed they weren't solitary if possible, The Avatar doesn't condone torture, but forgot to take that into account XD

Good to know we'll have more time to play with. It's been a whirlwind few months in Earth Bet hasn't it.

I think I can safely say that we all agree that we should do Lockboxes and Relief Efforts, but while I respect your reasoning for wanting to do prep work for India with Avatar, even if I don't think it's what we should do right now, your reasoning for not wanting to do Indonesia is a little flawed here, I'm pretty sure the Avatar option for Indonesia isn't more prep work but just helping around the country, like we did in the Balkans and Namibia in the previous chapter, and various other times we went to countries to arrest and destroy select villains and gangs, so rather that raises or lowers the priority of doing the Indonesia option more is totally up to you, I just am pretty sure that we would just be helping around the country in general, not doing prep work for the Op Center operation specifically.

You know i'm realy realy curious of how thing are in the birdcage right now with how many people from all around the world we sent there.

Also it's probably have been talked before by the thred but would it be possible for avatar to teleport out of the birdcage those who have been revealed inocent after their condamnation or who are born in it ?,heck with the new lockbox maybe some that where sent int birdcage because of a lack of better option instead of their dangerousity/crimes could be re-trialed/transfered.

It's been 24 hours since the voting moratorium and so, unless I'm misunderstanding something, we can now vote, and so here's what I'm voting, and regardless if whoever's reading this votes the same as me or not I wish you the best of luck to your voting choices, let the best votes win. :)

[X][Guild] Asura has India's Thanda capes sufficiently freaked out that they want outside help, despite their usual emphasis on secrecy. India collapsing would be cataclysmic for Earth-Bet, and you've delayed too long already.

[X][Avatar] Lockboxes: The super-prisons you recently constructed with Dragon have been very handy already, by providing a place to put Front and Restoration villains who weren't sent to the Birdcage. If you're going up against Op Center, however, you're going to need more Lockboxes than you currently have - the man has something in the range of half a thousand villains working for him.

[X][Avatar] Indonesia: The Avatar alone cannot do anywhere near as much good for the country as the entire Guild put together can. Nonetheless, he can provide invaluable help in his free time.

[X][Avatar] Relief: The Avatar spends some time on providing relief efforts to particularly-devastated regions of Earth-Bet.

Edit: Wow, funny I posted this at the same time as you @sun tzu.

I'm mostly adding the space program because I think this could be helpful for the future let's fix Earth-Bet and make it situation less dire

Asura is an issue that needs to be dealt with soon. Time to get started.

The more Lockboxes we have available, the better. I really don't want enemies to get away just because we run out of places to out them, and I similarly don't want to stick people in the Birdcage just because we don't have any other places to out them.

[X][Avatar] Guild: Whichever mission the Guild chooses to focus on, the Avatar dedicates as much time as he can to supporting and preparing it.

What can I say, the Avatar is justifiably considered one of the Guild's biggest sticks. Might as well use him.

Good Public Relations will help us out a lot, and it helps other people.

@sun tzu is there a in universe Avatar movie being made because of what has been happening in Earth Bet
It's only been a couple months - not enough for Hollywood execs to agree on a major project and secure the fundings for it!
