The category of "no rolls- you fight something, it dies, no excuses."
Nonlethal options would had been fun. We need to prove that we got through the aur and could had beaten him. But how? Well, we need to damage something, obiviously. Therefore, cutting off clothes. Possibly all clothes, making the enemy use their weapons to cover up, reducing their combat ability to zero. It would had been hilarious, for a couple of times at least.

I've always felt that Kill Six Billion Demons' philosophy was delightfully simple: Humanity is great because it struggles, and it struggles out of IGNORANCE and SPITE. Meti's swordsmanship manual does indeed have some pretty deep insights into the nature of CUTTING, but Meti's real message is the surface level one that all the power in the universe won't make you happy.

But it'll make you a badass, and that's ALMOST GOOD ENOUGH. Just ask Aesma! Or Kill Six Billion Demons herself.

Picture too small to read text.

(It says "don't wear it out" if anybody's curious)
... Hrm.

I can see your point, and would use this as a sterling example of my main problem- I can't see the forest for trying to decipher the bark upon one of the trees.

You wouldn't be that good. Killing absolutely anything you come across, yes, easy, using that same level of power in a non-lethal manner?

HA.

Not to mention, as you said, hilarious the first couple of times. Just the first couple of times, though.

I mean, I didn't get it until my second re-read of Pree Aesma's interlude where she humiliated the masters of the universe because she didn't know enough about them to realize what she was doing.

And of course, there's more to K6BD's philosophy than achievements in ignorance--it's also about:
  • the accumulation of power for its own sake (A OK! Jaune Ten Meti would totally get along with Cinder, and Disapprove -100 that Pyrrha doesn't want Maiden powers),
  • accepting the consequences of ones actions (why the Seven are FUCKED in universe),
  • enlightenment (REACH HEAVEN THROUGH VIOLENCE), and
  • being awesome (see above).
As for merging the universes: Remnant is under Incubus's dominion but when Meti found Jaune she put Incubus on notice that if any of the usual pillaging shenanigans start happening she'll come out of retirement just to feed his eyes to his own asshole.

I hope you realise I'm shamelessly taking as many notes as I can. I'm like a vampire for ideas.

Speaking of Kill Six Billion Demons, is anyone else getting a page saying they don't have permission to access the website, and something about a 403 error, or is that just me?

Nah, site's down for me too. My laptop's been having problems for a while though and I'd assumed this was more of the same.

And please go ahead, I do brainstorming for fun. It's a matter of asking what you want the situation to be, and who/what can get you there. Cause-effect, effect-cause, consequence. ;)

Also I totally only just realized you gave Transistor!Jaune a spiral power laser...

This makes me absolutely love the idea of more K6BD interludes.
There will be more. Maybe not in that way, but the recent conversations have given me a little more insight into how to write it properly.

Also I totally only just realized you gave Transistor!Jaune a spiral power laser...
It was the runner-up option, so you got a little something extra from it. Not every choice had something like that for every other choice, that would be insane, but at least for the Transistor option, whatever runner-up you got would have gotten you an extra Function. A few others had something like that, but not all of them- they all would have changed the world in some way, but I think aberrant was the only other one where it directly affected Jaune.

No, I'm not listing what every runner up would have gotten every winning option- not only would the list be an update in and of itself, it would take forever to sanitize my notes for public consumption.

In the meantime, update.

After a deep breath, you decide that you've had quite enough of Saff's games. Playtime is over.

"So, what plans does our glorious leader have?"Ada asks, looking directly at you.

You're not-

{They've been following you for ten minutes. You are their leader in the most literal sense right now.}

... Ok, you'll take that. Anyway, you do have a plan for a change.

"Simple. We're leaving." You say, not betraying your plan in the slightest.

"... Uh, Jaune, appreciate the enthusiasm, but how? I don't think Saff really built an exit in except for that hole in the roof, which... why is that there, anyway?" Lumen asks you.

You don't respond, taking your hand off your sword and letting it float while you deal with the various menus and virtual dials under your fingertips now.

{Reboot()? You sure about that? You take the wrong piece out, then... you know.}

You know, and you're sure. Structural stress overlay, the likelihood of bringing the structure down per cubic metre Rebooted, plot a path out of here, bare minimum... ten blocks, with a fair bit of running back and forth to get to them. A slight pain begins to gather between your eyes. You close them for a moment, willing it aside.

Silhouettes appear in your vision, and you can see where everyone else is. At least three of the remaining six are in your way, and one of those are... prone?

Aura levels below critical level- mild injuries detected. Hypothesis: laid down their weapons and themselves in order to avoid further battle after the first cut injured them. Suggest immediate extraction. One more in similar condition detected. Marking.

Both that and another outline change from the normal cyan to a deep orange colour. The other one is limping, frantically trying to find somewhere to hide. You take another deep breath.

You tell yourself it's to calm yourself, but you get the feeling that you're lying to yourself again.

You walk up to your first new doorway.

"... That's a wall, Jaune. What, are you gonna blast it down?"

You let go of your sword, leaving it to float as a wireframe overlay appears on the block. A moment later, a rising whine can be heard, quickly leaving the human hearing range, though Creme seems somewhat uncomfortable as it continues to rise in pitch. Do Faunus have enhanced hearing too?

"Close your eyes." You say as a message telling you to do just that appears in the corner of your vision.

You do so, and the others seem to do so as well as the wall flashes out of existence.

"... Or, disintegrate it. Disintegration works too." Creme finishes.

"It's not disintegrated. It's back where it was before Saff got his grubby little Semblance on it. Think of it like... a system restore on a computer- putting everything back where it should be and hoping that fixes the problem."

Your teammates are silent for a moment.

"... Aight." Ada says, not seeming entirely sure what on God's green earth you're talking about, but happy enough about the path open to you.

"... WHAT?! I- DO YOU PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF 'DON'T FUCK WITH THE MAZE?!' I'M HAVING TO... to... um. It's, not falling. What?"

Oh joy just the person you wanted to talk to.

"SAFF! PEOPLE ARE INJURED! YOU TALK ABOUT US GETTING PEOPLE HURT, BUT SO FAR YOU'RE THE REASON SOMEONE'S ALMOST BLEEDING OUT AND ANOTHER'S WALKING WITH A SHATTERED KNEECAP!"

The sounds of fighting begin to wane, either at the shock of the news, or the shock of hearing you speak above a mumble.

Nobody moves. Nobody speaks.

What now?

Overkill Opportunity Present!

Overkill Opportunities are when you have a chance to do something... extremely. Not extremely well, not extremely brutally, not extremely anything-ly, just... extremely. Generally, they're an extension of your last goal, and then some. They will be marked out in red, and are to be considered high risk, high reward options. If you pull them off, you will pull off something normally out of your reach. If you fail, however, you will fail in a similarly spectacular fashion.

As this is the first time, I'll lay out in plain terms the consequences of success and failure, so you have examples of what to expect in future. Don't expect this kind of information without buttering me up~ spending whatever fate point system I decide to implement.

[] Play It Safe- You have your way out, get out, inform the professors, and let them take care of it.

[] Play It Saff- Simple plan- get on your hoversword, get up on Saff's level, and give him an ultimatum. "Move, or be moved." May devolve into an air battle with him depending on how that goes.
-[] Any choice words for him? (MANDATORY SUB-OPTION)

[] Play It (Médecins) Sans (Frontières)- Grab the injured on your way out, protect them, and get them to the professors. At worst, they're out of the way, at best, they're proof that an intervention is needed.

[] DON'T PLAY IT SAFE- Extend your Reboot() to the maze as a whole. Everybody gets out, the injured get away, and everybody's after Saff's blood. Fun times all around!

CRIT SUCCESS AND ABOVE: Well, what I just said happens, consequence free. The only roll needed, next update is just catharsis and Saffochism of the highest order. Requires a total of 30, including bonuses. Which, are a thing now, go look at your character sheet.
SUCCESS (Roll >15): As above, but one random Function is locked, and there is no bloodlust-based camaraderie.
PARTIAL SUCCESS: You... kind of swiss cheese the maze. People can get out, you piss off Saff, but now you have to deal with him yourself. Two random functions are locked.
FAILURE (Roll <15): Technically a partial success, but you swiss cheese it wrong. Better start running! All non-Jaunt() Functions are locked.
CRIT FAILURE: Soup's on, baby. Roll D20 to see how bad you get it. Don't worry, I won't kill you.

I can do so much worse.

Eh, might as well and this would likely make us look really good.

With a +10 on a D20 we have a pretty damn solid shot of getting at least a full success. Like, 13/20 rolls give us a full success, and only 25% give us any kind of failure.

I also think any of the outcomes has the potential to be both interesting and good for development. Might reveal a little more about Jaune's powers, but that cat is already getting close to being out of the bag, and this won't reveal that the Transistor is necessary to use them, which is the biggest weakness (barring a pair of crit fails or similar bad luck, I suppose).

As the outcome seems more positive than not, and the overall impact on the story seems most interesting, ain't nothin' else I'm voting for.

On top of all of that, yes, I would have had trouble characterising Jaune as someone who wouldn't have been thrown in the nut house before he even got out of the Emerald Forest. Out of all possible Jaunes, the Ten Meti one is by far the least sane- this is including the one who drinks blood for sustenance and the other who eats souls for fun and to grow as a person and would have cheerfully broken Cardin's knees in seven places before he even got within shoving distance. Not least sane in the sense of least stable- he would have had one of the most alien viewpoints I've had to write for an actual human character. On the surface, sure, he seems like a quiet, polite, if somewhat odd person, but once you get past that first layer...

You think Pyrrha's had it rough with Pillar Jaune? Hoo boy.

Some ideas for this, a reason that Jaune hasn't been put in an insane Asylum is because of Ozpin. Ozpin has met and is very well aware of Meti and her skills which is why he is interested in Jaune. He is aware that Jaune has immense potential and would make an amazing hunter after witnessing his skills and that of his mentor. But he is aware of his issues and alien POV, that along with his worry about him 'wasting' his potential like how he views Meti is doing is why he wants him to attend Beacon. He is pretty much hoping that spending four years at Beacon would help him gain new perspective and give him a less alien view point while avoiding becoming apathetic by interacting with normal people his own age.

He probably did have him evaluated for any mental issues and the docs response was probably somewhere along the lines of 'we have no idea what the hell is up with this kid but we don't think he is likely to be dangerously unstable so there is that' at which point Ozpin would use his connections to vouch for him and give Jaune 'leeway' for his behavior. In Ozpins words 'He isn't crazy exactly he just... Has a very unique viewpoint."

Well that's my take idea least.

Valedictory Elegy intensifies

Also I totally called riding the Transistor. Metal AF.

I just have to point out that Beacon accepted Raven as a student. I don't think that Remnant huntsmen have a problem with Jaune Ten Meti's attitude or life philosophy as long as he combats the Grimm and doesn't unduly freak out civilians. It's part practicality and part... well, it's a death world in all but name where people with superpowers and anime weapons are a common sight and kids use them in internationally televised tournaments.

His use of lethal force in spars is an issue, mind.

It's time.
It's time to show off and scare the absolute living hell out of Saff.

If the dice fuck up the X-TREME option and accidentally kill people, Saff wins.

Agree, really don't think we should risk killing people over something like this. That's just the kind stupid that would probably get us black listed from Beacon if we knowingly messed with the maze and fucked up.
