It Belongs to a Museum

[X] [STAFF] Ibn Naggazar
The lad needs a break, a hot mug of cocoa, and a quiet basement to indulge in recreational alchemy and some light daemonology.
[X] [STAFF] Stranded Valkyrie
Interesting.
[X] [STAFF] Lie of Aenarion
New student spotted.

[X] [AELSA] Governor
This seems like a good decision.
[X] [AELSA] Widow
This is absolutely a terrible decision.

[X] [STAFF] Barrow King
[X] [STAFF] Lie of Aenarion
[X] [STAFF] Bahr

Uncle most of the time.
"Do not mind me, I am a simple scholar"
Uncle 10 secondes after meeting a promising youth.
"Hey kid, want to learn dark magic ?"

The more I am thinking about things, the more I am in favor of Widow. We genuinely kinda already grabbed all the exciting stuff from Contact-Aelsabrim, namely the Sea Elf audience, loose Lizardmen relics and full exhibition of badass skeletons, and she's got lots of potential to turn into something stupid useful. Just imagine if she turns into an Acquisitionist with a specialty in magic, or a Staff with both Beast-lore and Necromancy.

The one thing instant Widow can't do is get us access to delicious underwater Ulthuan chunks. I want delicious underwater Ulthuan chunks.

I also want Bahr for his ridiculous 6 Knowledges, 2 of which are Detailed, and his necromancy with which our skeletons may be made animate.

While I too like Widow very, very much, the other options all increase the kinds of things we can get from Aelsabrim, making her a more useful contact.

That's kinda the point of the vote.

My greatest joy is teaching and watching my students learn and thrive, grow beyond me and advance humanities knowledge ever further.

It's not my fault that society tends to label my specialties "dark magic", "forbidden", or "evil"

Technically speaking I think being a proper Princess on Ulthuan proper gives more political oomph than Governor of a colony, in Ulthuani political consensus, anyways.
Being a Princess on Ulthuan means being surrounded by High Elves with lofty opinions on subjects like 'dark magic'. It also means going back to Ulthuan, which means that she isn't going to be lingering around her husband's tomb any more. That doesn't necessarily make further Tutoring impossible... but it's two strikes against the Widow route.

On the other hand, becoming Governor of a remote Asur outpost means that she'll always be the most important elf around for literally thousands of miles (unless Teclis unexpectedly drops by to visit us). Anyone who wants to complain about what she's up to needs to spend months at sea, then at least another month navigating Ulthuan's treacherous political shoals, then just as long coming back... at which point they've been gone for more than half a year and she's had plenty of time to outmaneuver the would-be complainant in their absence.

I'd disagree with this very strongly. The other options show that there's still very much wells to be tapped. Specifically, an Aelsabrim that's respectable offers a very rare way to make connections within Ulthuan itself. High Elven artifacts (whether militaria or from sunken Tiranoc), and possibly introduction to new contacts and patronage networks within the High Elves, or other Sea Elf colonies. Ulthuan is a maritime empire with colonies across the world, and Aelsabrim is our main doorway to further opportunities to tap into that. But a lot of that goes away if she falls on the outs with High Elven society for dabbling in Dark Magic.

And the leading option for our new Staff member starts out with a proficiency for things Ulthuan, which is we're likely only going to develop even further, so there's some major opportunities in keeping the princess respectable.

True, we would be giving up that possibility, but the particular worrying in the process option makes me less excited about that future.
... will get you closer to being able to open talks regarding ...
Like, that language sounds like we'll have to not get distracted and invest more actions and Goodwill into that path for a whole while until we actually get to do the cool thing.

Sure, but in comparison to Widow everything else spends a big chunk of its shinyness budget on just maintaining what's already there. I was aiming to suggest that the obvious ""downside"" of potential losing Contact-Aelsabrim was actually more of a free respec.

For the museum name, I'd really like something simple and innocuous. "The Royal Museum of Nautical Activities".

Which royal? What activities? To outsiders it sounds like it might be a sea elf project, but no, it is I, Luthor Harkon the Pirate King!

Wow, Paht sure knows how to pick 'em. Bahr and Naggazar, lol.

Aelsambrim for Governor!

I really like the 'The Royal X'. It sounds both ancient Egyptian and colonialist, which is appropiate.

I think aiming for pun about whether it's Luthor's museum or Luthor's memory could be a good direction. Maybe 'The Royal Memento' or 'The Royal Recollection'?

I did some digging into this guy's name. Firstly, Korumel is a location in Ellyrion (or possibly an older name for Ellyrion, the various wikis are contradictory on that point) which is famous for being where Aenarion first slew N'Kari, the Slaaneshi greater demon that swore vengeance against his entire line, including the lad above.

Secondly, his first name seems to be a reference to another character—"Aenur" was the name of a famous swordsman and mercenary who adventured in Mordheim, having some fascination with the cursed city. This swordsman was also known by the title "Sword of Twilight", and given how elven names work, that might be a possible translation of Aenur. Aenur also wielded a blade called Ienh-Khain ("Hand of Khaine"). Possibly an ancestor of Aenureir?

I broadly prefer constructive to destructive support, and access to a favorable local polity is more enticing than providing her more access to afterlife curation methods if she doesn't seem overly interested. The soul of her beloved is worth protecting, but she has many citizens and they to have dead and dying loved ones too!

For our Staff I'd like to gain access to Necromancy, and supporting fellows of high Culture who already appreciate Tombs seems reasonable. A gifted student wouldn't go a miss either, it's time a student leave their mark on Ulthuan itself!

Elf slayer spotted?

Fallenstar Express Animal Couriers
FEAC? Sounds rude.

Froths up yes!

Boney has said before that if it was too soon, it wouldn't be offered. Plus, with what they've said about the other options -
It is very likely to shut off that avenue to Tiranocian influence.
-it seems like they might be, at least partially, mutually exclusive.

If there is any time for it, it is now.

New student spotted! Paht, I choose you! Use Dark Influence!
Amazing idea! Can certainly never go wrong!

To add to this and address some other posts that have come up in favor of being roundabout, I feel that the old Boneyism applies here: Vote for the option you actually want.

If you want to be a shadowy influence hanging over Ulthuani politics, then Princess is a vote to be the shadowy influence hanging over Ulthuani politics. Much as Power was before this.
If you want to be a mysterious, but known, figure building relations between the Vampire Coast and ties to Ulthuan that can stand in the open daylight, then the vote for Governor carries much of what Prestige did.
If you want to play matchmaker in a true romance that defies even death from beyond the grave. Well, that vote, too, is right there and builds upon the Grief once invoked.

It's been noted before that this might involve her transitioning to a staff or acquisitionist role, and the narrative carries that implication, but exactly how it plays out remains to be seen. Boney may already know, or it may come to a dice roll.

(And just keeping it business is there too, I suppose)

I want the Nyarlathotep options, as ever, so I'm voting that way. But to those who want the romance and matchmaker options: Don't convince yourself that another path better taken than the road straight there.
