Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

How close to locomotive would we have to get to HMP it? Or is it unnecessary for defusal expertiese?

Also @Yog if we have spare Essence, consider Emergency Minion Hologram for cursebreakers (or whatever does Sanctuary calls arcane sappers)

Within sight of something electronic, the charm is line of sight. If it's used to control the train and linked to at least a transistor it's close enough for the charm

Modern trains are pretty reliant on electronics. It should have radio antenna, signal lights, possibly a GPS transceiver, and maybe other bits and bobs, all tied to its electrical and computer systems. Seems like any one of those would provide a conduit for a Cyber-Devil to make entry.

With a car you can always see the staring wheel at least.
Wait, I think we are having a miscommunication. I read your words as "we cannot put a cyberdevil into a train in a way we can put one into a car". Did you mean "we need to be in line of sight of electronics that are part of the train's control system in order to use HMP" instead?

Yes, that is what I mean. The charm works on smart devices, but it's line of sight to the smart part, the one that actually holds the demon. Molly can't just shove something in a wheel and expect it to get into the onboard computer, but if she can see any amount of the control surfaces that works

You know what? I'm writing a stunt for this. To be clear, this is a terrible strategic decision. It wastes Shintai when we might need it, could scare the exalted of edge, and is supremely obvious. There are a bunch of assumptions about other people and their actions we can't be sure of. It's also really funny. It's been a very long week for me so I'm just going to write it up anyway for the hell of it.

[] Plan: The Murder Oriented Express
-[] Find Azhi and try to start a friendly conversation, then use Shintai to steal the train before anything happens.
-[] FPoR, BSM using a water bottle, and up to 1 mote of social excellency on the introduction.
-[] [Stunt] "You know" Molly began, a ponderous tone to her voice. "I think the Denarians just used up the last of my patience for subtlety". From the look on Listens to Wind's face he didn't seem to find the look in her eyes reassuring.
—[] Walking down the passageway - wet shirt hidden beneath a jacket - with Lydia and Silver, the three of them slid into the seats across from Azhi. "Long day?" She spoke into the shocked silence.
—[] "There's not really a good way to start this sort of conversation, so I'll get the big stuff out of the way first. Welcome to the" - as she gestured between the three of them an unexpected phrase darted to her lips like an old reflex - "Exalted Host. We're people like you trying to seek each other out to find answers about what we are"
—[] There was a shudder as the train started to struggle with something. "First though, we're a target out here. Mind if I shake off your stalkers?"
—[] At his signal Molly took a deep breath and exhaled fire, her anima flaring forward and out in a tide of lidless eyes. As they settled into orbit the four exalts looked around to see the world changed.
—[] The train, once aging plastic and dingy carpet, was a thing of gleaming brass and shimmering obsidian.
—-[] The windows held holographic overlays crawling with text in at least a dozen languages, none native to Earth. There was distant scent of alien spices in the air, and the taste of ozone from overhead lights more similar to bottled lightning than anything Amtrak used. Even the seats beneath them had changed, transmuted to lacquered ironwood padded with something close but not quite like wool.
—-[] Outside they had a fraction of a moment to see a tunnel into a mountain that didn't exist before they plunged down into the earth, replacing the countryside with mosaics of life in strange cities.
—[] Behind them the world snapped back into place, leaving no sign that the train had ever existed.
—[] "Let's start with your questions" Molly continued as she settled comfortably into her second skin, taking a sip from a smoking flute of wine presented by multi armed drone trundling along the ceiling offering refreshments.

Again; would probably blow up before we got anywhere, but what a way to make an impression if it did work.

Edit: error

If there are Denarians about, we might as well go loud.

Yeah, it's just bronzetongues with minor tweaks to language cousin to imply that we're a relation of some type that we're not going to hurt him or initiate combat with him.

We have no reason to assume the exalted were a host as far as I know in this Quest because host is a direct call to military or at least that's the only context anyone would hear the word nowadays that isn't a talk show.

Though we do know that the chosen are exactly that chosen princes of the earth whatever you want to call us everyone we've talked to who has any level of knowledge on the exalted calls us chosen of a dragon even if they don't know which dragon.

So House of the Chosen sounds friendlier doesn't imply any level of military and furthers that cousin/relation point that I was getting at.

It's a bit of a reach, but I used the term because it could conceivably fit in the scope of the vague knowledge Molly has drawn in the past and there are other exalts around to shake things loose.

For my part I think that if you drop the loaded terminology it sounds more natural to use avoid something directly referential altogether. "Welcome to the madhouse" or something similar.

Oh yeah it's plausibly in reach. It's just that we haven't seen anything that would suggest that yet so far we've had families of chosen which doesn't particularly seem to be army-ish or individual champion chosen or made by us chosen.

There just nothing tying any of the chosen together that seems to suggest that they were a unified Anything at any point rather than just the same type of being with that being as far as Molly knows Princes of the Earth that she got from the Walker.

Kind of like calling any individual Wizard or human practitioner part of the Wizened Host when not even the whole white Council a part of any kind of host at all.

Then this occurred to me but the kind of awkward thing is Molly doesn't know how many exalted there are or could be so calling Our Kind a host when at the moment there's maybe 20 in existence seems a bit premature.

For my part I think that if you drop the loaded terminology it sounds more natural to use avoid something directly referential altogether. "Welcome to the madhouse" or something similar.
Yeah that's probably a good idea house of the chosen was kind of meant to be kind of friendly but it does sound like a direct organization when there just isn't one which kind of hits the same problem as host.

Goldfish, you might want to switch your vote to what you actually want to vote for. BronzeTongue doesn't actually have a vote to be tallied.

We have two more abyssals to go through, people! Shintai is to be kept in reserve. We don't need it here, we don't have resources for it. Not to mention masquerade violations and overall issues. This is a marathon, we are only halfway through. Please be more reasonable.

So, the train in the image is a Siemens Charger. To quote wikipedia:
Four Insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power inverters carry electric current to each of the four AC traction motors. A static inverter off of the main prime mover supplies head-end power (HEP). The locomotive also features dynamic braking with regenerative capability, allowing the locomotive to divert power generated by dynamic braking away from the resistor grids to HEP and onboard locomotive auxiliary power demands.[4]
So we pretty much need to look at a lightbulb or an internal communication system or, yes, the breaks, in order to be able to apply HMP.

[X] Plan Spirit Train
-[X] Apply BSM to yourself
-[X] Find something that can be used to HMP the train, like an internal communication system, or emergency breaks, or a power distribution board. then use it to call a sanctuary spirit with relevant experience to possess it
--[X] If there's nothing in the car you are in that is connected to the electronic systems, slip out of the window, and get in direct line of sight of the locomotive or the breaks to use HMP
-[X] Get the train spirit to locate Azhi Dahaka and to brief you on what the enchantment on the train is, if it can
-[X] Move towards Azhi Dahaka. Ask him to join you in disarming the enchantment on the train - you'll talk after he and the passengers are safe, and the Fallen plan is derailed, pardon the pun

So, basically, the idea is to use the ready-to-go curse as an excuse to establish rapport with Azhi Dahaka. Make it so instead of exclusively tracking him, we are the good guys, which we show by saving the train.

*looks at the votes for Shintai*

Not even surprised to be honest.😮‍💨

BronzeTounge, I am in love with your plan. I only don't vote for this because I don't want to waste a week cleaning up the Mascarade breach that making a demon-train in full sight of passangers would require.

Thinking about this, I'm less convinced something like my plan is an inherently bad idea. Socially it's risky, but Denarians are very scary and if this is their follow up we have no idea what they could be doing. Simplest case they could put a derailer on the tracks and bank on a fresh exalt low on essence from a recent fight dying to a train crash.

What do we do if it's something we can't stop by hacking?

The sky already changed today, so it's really a drop in the bucket. Just give them a pat on the back and the good old "no one will ever believe you". The bigger issue is the opportunity cost of all the resources spent.

But honestly when will we get the chance to steal a train again?
