The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] The Crab has left behind a pair of molts, leaving two fully intact shells that would be useful in any number of projects. (Charmcrafting Material, Ocean 6)

Ocean: The Whale-Den, the Moon Road, The Keel Breaker.

Any ocean mat would work beautifully with our Moon mat. The synergies between the two are just endless.

"Zhuan Kun," she murmurs, voice painfully level. "How do you… did… did you understand the crab? Was it speaking in some language only comprehensible by…" She waves her hand at the torn up sand where Zhuan Kun and the crab did battle, as if encompassing the entire exchange.

The noble only crosses his arms and frowns at Daiyu. "Why would it have needed to speak?" he asks, seeming for all the world to be honestly curious. "True warriors can communicate with only their fists."

Daiyu just stares at Zhuan Kun- before slumping in her saddle. "I… don't know what I even expected," she mumbles. "Let's… let's just go search the crab's stuff."
It's simple, Daiyu. Remember when you bragged* about being able to communicate only in song form with a bunch of shrews who spoke no known language? It's like that, except instead of singing it's clogging and instead of kicking the floor you kick each other in the face.
*Definitely how it happened, no need to look up the specific chapter

As a member of the Imperial Hand I expected you to be educated in this kind of thing.

Haven't thought about Xu Yun in awhile. Gonna be brutal when the gang gets back to the Heart from their mission, this scenario is probably a nightmare of his.

I really like salt as an aspect, I would want it as part of my core if I ended up in Path, but the Ocean has salt in it, as well as the massive, ship-swallowing currents, the gentle waves, and storms. It would make a fine charm for Xu Yun, or anything we decide to use it for.

To no one's surprise, it is as if Zhuan Kun was only waiting for the request to be made. "Of course," he says promptly, sliding from his mount's saddle. "Please be patient. This may take longer than usual. It has been over two years since the last time I faced a similar foe; I will have to relearn how to properly read their body language."
Just to clarify, the comment I made after the previous update, about how this was probably an entirely mundane event for Zhuan Kun and he'd no doubt fought a crustacean martial artist before, was mostly a joke. I did not expect him to have exchanged pointers with a crab before, and it was in fact to my surprise.

I think Ocean is the cooler aspect of the two, but Salt is also really fun.

The funniest part is that Kun has been at the heart less than a year, and by Imperial Law was not allowed to cycle anam prior to attending.

Which means he fought a giant crab as a Seated.

Moon synergy and Zhuan Kungifts have won me over

I want to gift it to Ming Hui and see what he does with it, he could use it to smoke some meats!

If I strain my ears, I can just barely make out her murmur of, "...did I become the ordinary one? How did this happen? Is this…"

DISCOMBOBULATION 🤯

He stares after the crab for several minutes, and likely would for several more if he were not interrupted by Daiyu throwing her hands up and yelling "What just happened here?!" to the sky.

Nothing to see here folks, only righteous brothers sworn to Fist again!

Sasuga, by our Emperor-In-Muscles.

My man Ming Hui hard carried the Mei Gang with those Immortal Rations, that extra bit of AP was crucial! Gotta pay him back somehow!

Also Quishu is being weirdly nice. Not trying to take a bite out of either Daiyu when she took their reigns or Zhuan's mount is really strange behaviour for them.

Zhi really shoulda tried riding a horse here. Maybe he could've broken his horse ptsd here…

"Really?" Daiyu asks. "I consulted the maps before we left the Summit. Is the next village not a few hours further south?"

"That is what I thought as well!" the Clerk answers, brightening even further. "But upon closer study of this census from two decades past, you can see-" The rest of his words are cut off as I reach the burrow and duck into it, joining Zhuan Kun as he surveys the crab's home.
So... we all agree that this is going to be a problem, right?

Census Records from two decades ago indicate a village in the area, but more recent maps from the Summit don't have any village listed in the area.

Something happened to that village, didn't it? Something that erased it from the maps so thoroughly that the maps don't have an explanation, or a warning, or anything about the village.

We are walking into something that we shouldn't know about. Something hiding or forgotten.

Poor Quishu isn't braying for blood anymore either. It's clear that Ves is ramping up the suspension and I am looking forward to seeing what he came up with. A mysterious village appearing out of nowhere and the mood changes in the group definitely aren't normal.

Now that Zhi has been enlightened to the nobility that can be found in carapice it is time for him to take his next step toward the perfect form.

And I'll make a charm idea to go with it.

Ocean's bounty drying racks:
A series of meat drying racks, their odd shapes might seem inconvenient but clever design means it can securely hold even the most inconvenient cuts and it works as abstract art when empty. Meat hung from them is perfectly dried, salted and given a scent reminiscent of an ocean breeze. This preserves anam meaning they can help keep more meat from a slaughtered spirit beast or meaty vestige. Might be inconvenient to use for most travelers, if they don't happen to have some way to bring around an entire house with them. Also we happen to have a friend in an immortal chef who'll get good use out of it when Zhi doesn't need it.
