Can imagine one possibility of the apothecary is that there chapter will feel, that our boy needs to repay his lost space marine potential back to humanities defenders aka get them good psychic space Marine candidates.

I like the idea of a biomancer with a place for everything and everything in its place. And what is cancer but biology run amuck? Also, our cancer can get us interested in studying cancer as a subject. How to slow it, accelerate it, how it interacts with psychic powers, etc... And really a study of cancer could lead to an interest in mutations both beneficial and detrimental.
