To clarify, we don't reveal ourselves if we pick romantic?

I really like the concept of competing in a bunch of different Tournaments to build up the mystery. However, we don't have the action economy for that

[X] [Defiant] [Romantic] Extend your hand to Alicent. "Will the lady grant me the honour to join me on a ride?"

Fuck it, screw the action economy, this option removes stress and might get Alicent in our bed this very night.

I want to unmask solely because these words by Cole are so fresh :lol: Nothing more ironic than telling the girl you thought was just playing at being a warrior that she was born to wield a sword.

Am I the only one who thought this is a great line to throw back in the future to Cole if he's being an asshat?
You know, in canon...

Criston Cole won a tournament at Maidenpool in 104 AC (when Rhaenyra was seven), held in honor of King Viserys I (Rhaenyra's dad) to the throne. He beat Uncle Daemon in the melee (despite Daemon using Dark Sister, the Valyrian steel sword) and came in second in the joust. He was granted the privilege of crowning the Queen of Love and Beauty.

He crowned little Rhaenyra.

Quite the gesture.

...

Now, AU!Rhaenyra in this quest would have been a bit bigger, a lot more of a tomboy, sure, than the canonical princess. But I see no compelling reason to think that this isn't what happened in this timeline. All the same reasons Criston did it in canon are still in play- it's a gesture of respect to the new king and so on.

And it would be fucking hilarious if now, less than ten years later, he learns that the little girl he gave that crown of flowers to, then a few years later dismissed for her inappropriately boyish interest in combat, has now just unhorsed him in a tournament. :p

Truly, the better man won today.

That's very much book canon and not show canon.

Well, we absolutely do need to keep doing Prowess/training actions now and then, we can't entirely ignore it, but yeah, it stops being a priority and our action economy eases up a bit.
Honestly if we can keep the Training to one action per year once we become knight it would be great, especially because freeing our time to do more varied stuff would be great...

now that i've calmed down: how much were the tournemant winnings plus armor ransoms? we can probably do some interesting things with that!

off the top of my head
  • charity! hand out alms, fund some apprenticeships, pay for public works, maybe straight up chuck cash at a sept (increases opinion with the smallfolk. if we want to influence and encourage the more pragmatic/progressive portions of the Faith this is an approach.)
  • fancy new armor 😉
  • cool sword 😉
  • wardrobe items like jewelry, dresses, accessories (a gift for Alicent maybe🥺)
  • H O R S E
  • investing! i am actually not sure what investment opportunities would be appropriate for Rhaenyra's station besides trade fleets. but if we want more influence in economics without isembard attached this is how to go about it.
  • patronizing the arts - can strongly overlap with charity, but doesn't need to. again, not sure what woukd be appropriate for Rhaenyra's station.
edit: sorry, i've realized i've jumped five thoughts ahead and forgot to post thoughts 1-4. my heart was pounding reading the update 😭 i feel like a weight has lifted off my shoulders. thank you author, going into the new year with my heart 3 sizes larger
To be fair, Rhaenyra is actually very rich what with the tax revenues from Dragonstone, and this money is pocket change for her. If she's spending it on doing something, it's going to be because that thing is special.

So commissioning jewelry for Alicent, yes, random investment money, no. She can do that kind of not-personal stuff just fine with her "is the princess" money.

Giving the winnings to charity would be okay as a gesture of "this means a lot to me" though, and would be a great way to build a reputation that people will be talking about for decades. Holy shit, the PRINCESS won the tournament and gave the winnings to charity!

That's very much book canon and not show canon.
OK that's fine. I'm a books man myself.

Still, I hope you agree that it would be fucking hilarious, even if it's not true in the quest.

A minor shame we're in the North and can't give a gift to Alicent and make a show of our piety to the smallfolk at the same time by giving to a Sept.

[X] [Defiant] [To Become A Knight] Face Lord Manderly and reveal yourself to the crowd as Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Choosing the Romantic option will create rumors that Alicent would be "made impure" which isn't worth the hassle. Additionally we eventually still have to reveal our identity as the Silver Falcon and that inevitable rumor and those that likely will happen regardless (due to the truth of our relationship) will just massacre our opportunities with our mother-in-law, the mother of our half-siblings. The renown and victory as a Mystery Knight was the goal even if a proper knighting does not follow, it is simply the less messy option and the exact goal we set ourselves towards for this tournament.

So I will say I've noticed a lot of discourse that kind of acts like Viserys will have no real reaction to this, just to make clear, there will most definitely be a reaction to these events. This is not to scare you off your decisions, neither of these options is a trap that's not how I do things. Just wanted to make sure people understood this.

The romance option would be cute and yes it would lose stress, but I think we have to do this now

I mean to be fair, like, short of us resolving to go to our grave with the secret of the Mystery Knight's identity, Viserys is going to learn about it.

If anything, the idea that we took part in multiple tournaments under his nose seems like it'd be more offensive?

Really hope he doesn't cut the progress short out of worry for Rhaenyra's safety, but I suppose that's a risk we have to take.

Also Lord Beesbury is in the crowd, and he already thinks highly of us, think he might be one of our loudest cheers.

Sometimes it takes a real girl to become best man - Princess Rhaenyra, allegedly.

Well, since the only people who can officially anoint Rhanyra as a Knight are either the King or the Commander of the King's Guard, we are really hoping to get some reaction from good old Dad...

I hope that he doesn't cancel the Progress though...

At that point, most of the progress would be done though, so there's less risk of his reaction cutting it short.
